My family and I celebrated my baby's baptism on June 13th, and we had the buffet luncheon at Shakeys La Palma. Ruby was the supervisor in charge, while Lucy was our main server. we had about 35 guests, paid in batches as the guests arrived and everyone loved the ambience, service, and location. Lucy replaced plates speedily, she was kind, and helpful and made me feel at ease. My guests were so happy with the food, service and hospitality we all received. We called to schedule a team dinner a week and a half before the event. They confirmed our reservation and they told us to wear our uniforms to get a team discount. On the night of the team dinner, they did not have a record of our team reservation. The manager was on her 30 min break and didn't want to come out of the office. They would not honor team discount for the team dinner. The worker helping at the register was powerless to help us as she did not have the authority to give discount, but the manager didn't care to come out. We had to figure out putting tables together on our own. They were not helpful at all. Such a strange way of doing business. We didn't make a scene so it wouldn't be awkward for the, but have to leave an honest review of our strange experience. read more

This review is mainly for employee, Antonio. My husband and I came in today and had the buffet. It was pretty busy with all but 2 tables full. The family before us almost left cause those 2 tables still had dishes. So they were unsure if it was taken or needed to be cleaned and didn't want to not have a place to sit and eat. I didn't want that for us either, so I asked an employee to clean them. She came over and did so. We got our food, but there were no utensils. I stopped a gentleman (Antonio) and he apologized and hurried to replenish. We went to ask for another plate and I believe the manager (in a black collared shirt) and they told us to ask the front desk. We were about to but I thought it was weird since everyone else was given another plate without having to wait in that long line since that's also where you order your food and pay. But they must've heard me say that's weird and gave us a plate. There were quite a few employees but Antonio was hustling the whole time. Always helping a family, cleaning, running around doing something. Plus always smiling when interacting with customers. He really stood out to us. So much we asked his name to write a review. What an excellent employee to have! Keep it up, Antonio and thank you. As for the food, stocked pretty well. My hubby really enjoyed the spaghetti. Something he tried for the first time. The Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, mojo fries and fried chicken were good. The pizza options were great but some were really greasy or had "crust bubbles", which weren't the best. The salad bar was kinda scary for me. Although I saw the girl refill the lettuce from bags. It just looked withered. All in all, a decent price ($16) for a decent buffet. Honestly, I was stoked for the mojos. Haven't been here since childhood and those are what I wanted the most. They didn't disappoint. read more

The location was very clean inside with plenty of seating area. The lunch buffet seems to be the most popular and they had a good variety of popular items, pizza, salad bar, chickens and mojo potatoes. While trying to get my food at the lunch Buffett a heavy woman jumped in front of me , pushed me back to get a plate full of mojo potatoes, literally took everything they had! Pretty Pathetic, no class. She will know who I'm talking about, wearing as USC shirt! Overall the food was decent, pizza was salty and I didn't like the pizza sauce being too sweet. My complaint was they keep plates behind the counter and have to ask each time you need a plate; thus, having to stand in line to get a new plate. Im writing this as we are still in the parking lot because I am so disgusted by the experience we just had at this location. We couldn't find a table to sit at because EVERY SINGLE TABLE WAS DIRTY. There were people asking for cloths to clean the tables themselves. I had to ask someone if they could clean a couple of tables so we could actually sit somewhere. Which they did but then proceeded to go on about their shift. It was very disappointing to see the lack of urgency this team had in cleaning the dining area. I saw plenty of people behind the counter who could've taken 5 minutes and hustled to clean. One worker even took it upon herself to sit at one of the only clean tables to take her break. Since we don't have a Shakey's in our area, we decided to try the lunch buffet. We arrived around 11:45am & it was pretty busy! The salad bar was well stocked and they were refilling the lettuce as we finished filling our plates. We enjoyed the mojos & both fried and roasted chicken. I liked the garlic flatbread (I think that's what it was), but it was a little on the drier side to me. I also only had a couple of slices of pizza, cheese & basil and tomato. The slices were small, but good sized so it wouldn't be wasted. Was too full to try the pastas or mashed potatoes & gravy. BF tried the steamed veggies, he said they were a little on the softer side but "ok". Service was also good, they collected our dirty plates so they weren't piling up around us. read more

This visit was disappointing because of the food. First we love the open field and cleanliness of the entire dining area. Lots of lighting and TVs to watch stuff. Service is pretty good as well. The cashier answered all of our questions and there's always people cleaning tables and asking us if we need more sauces or utensils or whatever. What made this disappointing was that it took close to 40 minutes to get our food even though it was not that crowded at that time around 6 PM on Sunday, February 8. The pictures don't show it, but the sausages on the pizza were hard and fell off the pizza like little pebbles rolling away. It felt like I was eating borderline jerky. The Mojos were fantastic as usual. But the fried chicken was very dry.. Could not chew or swallow it without accompanying it with a drink every other bite. This is the only place we get premium pizza from. If we come back, it would probably be for the lunch buffet, where we know the food is more fresh and being turned over every few minutes to avoid the overcooked dryness that we experienced that night. read more

Stopped by the Shakey's off Orangethorpe and it was pretty packed, but honestly the vibe was solid. Antonio was everywhere at once, just straight up hustling. Wow... I did not know Shakey's had a lunch buffet... so glad my son sent me a picture of his food... one of my highlights was the salad bar... I know it's not that extensive, but it reminded me of Souplantation, because I used to get the same fresh vegetables that Shakey's had, minus the sunflower seeds... but everything else was there... even the same tasting potato salad... the fried chicken was as good as they say... the pizza was always fresh because of the high turnover of the food... the place was packed... nice to see all you can eat places once again. read more

Pizza in Buena Park, what? Turn back the time to your childhood and revisit an old favorite -- Shakey's. I placed a big to-go lunchtime order by phone and, when I got there to pick it up, I was sorry I did -- the Bunch-of-Lunch buffet is so worth it! For the price ($13.99 as of 5/25), you get about five different kinds of pizza, fried chicken, the Mojo potatoes, a huge salad bar and some sides -- AYCE! This is the place for a cheat meal with big appetites. Next time Robbie B, next time. I am a thin-crust pizza fan and Shakey's does not disappoint. Though I'm not a wings guy, the crew at my party agreed the chicken wings were exceptional. We had two pepperoni pizza and wings combos that were polished off within minutes of unboxing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Fast to clean tables and come around to offer another plate. Another nice touch is that they offer a senior citizen discount. $14.99 is a little pricey, but I wouldn't mind paying that if they included a soda with the Bunch O Lunch. Pizza mojo and beer don't mid if I do. Came here to celebrate a birthday and enjoyed fun for the whole family. We ate and played plenty of games. One thing I would change is the customer service. The cashier made us wait to out in an order for our food so that he could find a baseball game. I normally wouldn't complain except it took about 10 min for him to find what he was looking for. Been going to Shakeys for years! Have done bunch of lunch with my buddies since high school, now I take my kids when their baseball and soccer teams want to do after game meals. I always suggest this Shakeys. Food is always good, never had any problems with the pizza, chicken or mojos. I have always been a big MOJO fan! Service is great, recently had an issue with a take out order and Mayte was GREAT dealing with it. I was expecting an issue/attitude which is common these days with service but not with Mayte! Shakey's is one of those places you try not necessarily because you expect the food to be amazing but out of intrigue and curiosity, particularly the lunch buffet. My total was $19 as of November 2025. Not super cheap but can be worth the money if you eat a ton of food. My verdict: It's not bad. I would rate the food like a 3/5. The pizza tastes like a regular "buffet pizza." The chicken was the best part of the meal: crispy, juicy and fresh. The mojos were decent. The enchiladas barely have any cheese on them but are edible. I didn't try the salad bar because it didn't look all that appealing to me. I don't think it gets changed out as much as the hot food items so I just avoided it. If a pizza type you want is not available, you may need to request so there are fresh pizzas available. Inside was actually cleaner than I thought, though it does have a very dated feel. Service was alright. Some were friendly, others were apathetic. read more

This is the perfect team party place. We brought our 40 player football team and their parents after an away game in the area. The food was great and well priced. Lots of games for the kids to play while the adults hung out and talked. The staff was friendly and patient while getting through all of our orders. I wish we had a location closer to us. Grabbed shakey's after work and ordered online for pick up. When I arrived I waited a short 5mins for my order as I was a bit early. I decided to add on some small bottle drinks. I was holding the bottles and the employee noticed and offered me a cute little carrier for it. I thought that was being very observant and going the extra step as she was busy doing togo orders as well as bussing tables. They called my name for the order and it was the same girl that had given me the carrier (Katie), she bagged up my order and grabbed me condiments and extra ranch. This was such a pleasant, smooth pick up experience, the team was all working hard, even their manager pulling pizzas. Great staff and management. Food was amazing and fresh! read more

Today I had a negative experience at one of my favorite pizza spots. First, I never received a confirmation email for my online order. I placed it around 7:30 p.m. I guess their system was malfunctioning because my receipt said order placed at 7:56 p.m. I also called at around the same time to get an update on my order, and they told me it would be a 25 minute wait. So I pretty much got my order an hour after I placed it. Once I got there I still had to wait for other online orders before mine. The staff member that gave me my order of a medium pizza, 6 wings, and half order of mojos, read the receipt to me and gave me plenty of condiments which I appreciated. It seemed like everything was there, since it was a pizza and 2 small boxes, but when I got home, both boxes were mojos and I didn't get the wings. Both of the boxes were labeled with 1/2m, no wings. I was actually excited to try their wings for the first time. I understand how grueling fast paced restaurants can get, but this experience had too many mistakes to be ignored. On top of that, the jalapeños were only on half of the pizza, when it should've been on everything. Disappointing experience especially after waiting for so long. read more

We have been coming to shakey's bunch of lunch for many years now (daily between 11-2pm, 7 days a week) The price is reasonable and the food just keeps coming out. I am a garden veggie and grilled chicken loved so I always get my fill when I visit. The kitchen is not cheap to bring out refills of all food with exception of 15mins before 2 o clock (buffet end time to reduce waste). The dessert cinnamon rolls are so good. It's a perfect treat The arcade area is small but it is suitable for young children. My kids are 5 and 7 and they are content with playing even though there is not a lot of games. They play for a while and come back to eat. I have contemplated about hosting a kids birthday here but you can't reserve tables and it's gets pretty chaotic at bunch of lunch hour. Parking is also limited so if you have a big party, it will be difficult to get parking. Overall, we love the food variety, pricing and the workers who provide good service. Clean and polite. Did I mention clean??? It's Shakeys and it's pizza. But it's one of my favorite pizzas as I have many, many memories of my mom and dad taking us to eat at the local Shakeys or having a surprise at dinner that my dad brought home. We happened by this location as my littlest one had a doctor's appointment at Kaiser across the street. Being early, we dipped in here for a quick bite. We just missed the Bunch of Lunch buffet and crowd, but that was okay with us. We ordered my kids' fav thin crust cheese pizza. I got the special one topping thin crust with mojos and drink for $12.09. Towards the end of lunch, my 9 year old wanted wings, so we got that too. The mojos were cooked just right with a good amount of crispiness. I've had thick slices that were just chunks of potatoes, but these were spot on. The pizza was really good and my kids devoured the wings. But what really stood out to me was the service (!) and constant cleaning. I mean, even the arcade games were wiped down during the down time. There was a very polite and attentive older man who checked on us at least 3 times and brought us plates and ranch and Buffalo sauce. The cashier also checked on us twice. There was also a guy who was vacuuming and sweeping the carpets, and another wiping down all the empty tables. You couldn't tell that the lunch buffet rush was just 15 minutes ago. The customer service was unlike any I had experienced at a pizza joint and the cleanliness was better than most upscale restaurants, much less a causal eatery like this. The only fault is that the attention to clean and detail was missing from the bathroom, but I'll give them a pass. Maybe they haven't gotten to it yet. After all, they were so busy cleaning and wiping and sweeping everything else, I'm sure it was only a matter of time before they hit the bathrooms. read more

So you could order, and end up waiting extra long because your food is just sitting there and they're not telling anyone that their order is ready. And if they even are calling out orders, well nobody can hear them because they can't be bothered to turn that music down. I have not been here in decades, and my overall experience wasn't bad. It was OK, not over the top, but it wasn't bad. The decor was nice, a real decent size place. They give you a plate when you purchase, but you have to keep going back to the cashier and ask for a plate, unless someone comes to your table. That was a little offputting. The food: The salad bar had a regular iceberg on one side and mixed next to it. About 15 to 20 items to put on your salad. What I loved was that the purple beats, were pickled, and it's not every day you get to have pickled beets instead of regular beats. So that was a bonus. The pizzas were thin crust style. There was one that was a thicker deep dish looking pizza. There was about six or eight different pizzas on display for you to take. Of course, the sauce is usually the star of the show that goes on the pizza basically. And I did enjoy the flavor in the tanginess of the sauce, so that was a relief to know it was tasty. Other items included mashed potatoes and gravy, which was average I give it like a "C- or C." The consistency of the mashed potatoes could've been better, and the gravy was very average. Also, there is spaghetti with sauce that I was afraid to try because I'm usually disappointed., Steamed vegetables, Mojo, potatoes, fried chicken (which was about as good as the fried chicken from the supermarket) baked chicken I didn't try, it may be a few other items were there. Overall, I would go back. It wasn't as good as the sizzler salad bar experience for example, but it wasn't bad real bad either. read more

We came here for our Scout meeting as well as to support a school choir group. It's the first time I've been to a Shakey's in many years, but I was pleased with the food and the service. The place was clean, albeit busy, but they were managing things well and the kids had a good time. :) read more
