I had heard a lot of positive things about Shaking Crab, so I decided to stop in after work. The phone rang busy the whole way there so I had to place my order in person. I didn't feel like waiting. I placed a to-go order at "the window" because the restaurant was still closed due to COVID. Surprisingly, the wait was a little less than 15 minutes. I ordered shrimp w/no head and crab legs with sausage added. Each bag comes with potatoes and corn. The seasoning I chose was mild Cajun. The seafood bag was hot and absolutely finger licking (I literally licked my fingers) good. The legs were meaty and juicy. The shrimp were plump and tender. My only regret was that i didn't get two cobs of corn because it was perfect! I will visit again. read more

This place is off the chain. Excellent seafood. I'm from Maryland and always enjoy a good crab feast. Ordered the about 4lbs of crab legs with a mix of corn, potatoes, and shrimp. To be exact. The meal came to $100s. (Worth It) I got my girl the crab and shrimp combo which comes with 2 clusters. I got 4 clusters with potato's, and corn. My limit is usually 6-7 clusters, but these were some BIG legs so 4 was good for me this time around. The first time I went here, I got the Alaskan King Legs. You only get 2 but I knew then I had to come back. I drove the food back to our hotel and we dug in. Great service as well. All the personal had on mask and gloves. I was in Norfolk for two weeks for maritime classes and a friend in the class said his wife has been talking about it so we went there. I ordered shrimp without the heads and crab combo and added 1 pound of sausage with the butter and Cajun seasoning, asked for it hot and there was a kick. This place......wow. Coming from Louisiana, I'm used to seafood being cooked with care and seasoned very well. And this place does not disappoint. This was our second time here (my girlfriend and I). The first time we were here, we met friends of ours and had to wait for 45 minutes for seating. This time, we it was just us since it was her birthday and we happened to come during lunch time was wasn't packed (a huge plus for us). For our meals, we both ordered the soft shell crab baskets with a side of onion rings and a pound of crawfish (both of us selected the shaking sauce with my gf having no spice with corn and myself having it as mild with potatoes). From having the soft shell crabs cooked perfectly with the onion rings having a near perfect crunch to eating really good crawfish, our meals were definitely a home run. And the shaking sauce.....absolutely delicious. If you're in the mood for some good home cooked seafood with tender loving care, please be sure to come here. Disclosure: this review is about management servicing and not the employees or food. Servicing is just as important as the food. Lesson learned today...do not order your food online. You'll be charged a service fee (mine was $0.99, but this is about convenience &principle), the site itself will not update you when the order is confirmed or ready to pick up, and you'll have to either call or come to verify if the order was even placed. I gave leeway and called 30 minutes after placing the order. The Gentleman stated it wasnt ready...ok, so when will it be ready? Give us 10-15 minutes. Fine. When I came, it was a busy time and I know businesses are doing the best they can with these unconventional circumstances, so I understand that factor. What I was not pleased about was how confusing the pickup process was, not for just myself but for many customers , including the ones who ordered online or who's number was called but could not skip the long line to pick up their order. I Called while waiting in line after hearing only numbers were being called and not names (gentlemen I talked to on the phone first time said that i needed to say my name for the order) just to confirm it was ready because their site still wouldnt update. Most disappointing was the conversation I had with the male manager. When I asked about waiving the service fee because of the inconvenience, he completely disregarded my complaint as if my words were going into one ear and out the other, and then his response in a nutshell was this "actually, the online service is more convenient...the service fee is to make sure everyone is safe because of COVID" after I said the service fee has NOTHING to do with COVID, and it has everything to do with me picking up my order an HOUR AND 30 MINUTES later, I said "ok, I'll take that" because there's no sense in speaking to management who will not listen. My advice for him is to learn from one who does, and when a customer has a concern, address it and fix it...that's it, no excuses. As a manager I read and address EVERY concern. I love shaking crab! :) I've only been here twice but it was a good experience both times. I've had the shrimps with head and crab legs, with shakin sauce in medium, with corn on the cob and sausages. I've also tried the cajun fries which were delish. Like any similar place with "seafood in a bag," it does get pricey, but it's worth it. They have good service and provide bibs and gloves, if needed. It's in the Kemps River shopping center where the Kmart and Farm Fresh used to be, plenty of parking. Would def go back. read more

Cute little place on the corner in the Kemps River shopping center. The food was incredible. I ordered combo B (shrimps with no head and crab legs) with the shakin sauce and mild spice. I got the shrimp basket with Cajun fries for my daugher (which I sampled of course!) and they were delish!!! My husband ordered the catfish basket with hush puppies (he didn't share his catfish but I did get a hush puppy and it was tasty!) We decided to order to go since that was only a 15 minute wait and man I totally understand the wait the food was phenomenal. The flavor was on point! Perfection at its finest Prepare yourself for a long wait if you attempt to go on a Saturday. I recommend ordering take out unless you don't mind waiting 2+ hours. I actually took food home (rare I love to eat). You really get your money's worth here. We both ordered the crab legs and shrimp (w/no head) steam bag that came with corn and red potatoes like a standard seafood boil. They offer shrimp with the head still attached for those who enjoy that. The serving size was ample. What I couldn't finish, I took home to enjoy later. This is only for their soft shell crab basket. I went there last Friday for carryout. I was in the mood for a good soft shell crab, I was sadly disappointed. The basket includes two soft shell crabs ( cut in half) and a side order. I selected the red potatoes. The first bite into the soft shell crab was pure oil/grease and it was horrible. The oil was old and it ruined the taste of the crab. I tried another piece and it was the same, I couldn't even finish it. It was disgusting and I know to never order anything fried from this establishment, maybe because it was late in the evening, but I shouldn't taste old/burnt oil.
