We were greeted by a pleasant server, he showed us to our table and were quickly brought water. We ordered combo E in mild coconut curry, we requested the sausage to be separate from the seafood. They did that for us. Thank you. We also ordered fries, sweet potato fries, calamari, steamed broccoli, coleslaw and softshell crab. We loved everything we had. My favorite side was softshell crab - done perfectly not oily. We didn't enjoy the calamari as it was too chewy. Wouldn't order this again. The combo E was supposed to be for 2 - 3 people but it fed 6 of us. I'm it we're corn, potato, crab, crawfish, shrimp, mussels. Very tasty. I tried Shaking Crawfish for lunch today. Honestly I had driven by here before and thought they were out of business because the parking lot is always empty. But I checked yelp and saw they were open. They were completely empty. Never a good sign. I was here between 12 and 1 for lunch and I was the only customer. One other party came in while I was eating. But that was it. I did not see any to go orders going out either. Several other yelp reviews said the prices were reasonable and the portions large. I am not sure what you consider reasonable, but I can't pay $40 or more for lunch. So the seafood boils were out. I know crab legs costs money, but that also means they are out of my price range. I went with a fried everything platter for $17. Well the food was really good. Made to order and served fresh and hot. The oysters were perfect, crunchy and creamy at the same time. The shrimp were juicy not overcooked. Everything well seasoned. The hush puppies probably came out of a bag frozen. Sweet style with whole corn kernels. But they were good too. The catfish was I think pre breaded, but well seasoned. Everything tasted great so they immediately went from a 1 to a 3. I can't say it's a great value but they do seem to be priced accordingly considering the cost of fresh seafood. I would go 4 but the empty parking lot and weird vibe just left me a bit uneasy. I am so happy that I found another spot other than Juicy Crab for bagged seafood!! The prices are reasonable, the food is fresh and the portions are big. Thoroughly enjoyed the flavors. I didn't feel overloaded with sodium or bloated, as I often do after eating at other restaurants. There are no kids menus. But there are lots of fried basket options that kids can enjoy. My daughter enjoyed the fried catfish. Pretty crunchy and a good flavor. The butterfly shrimp were a little hard. Wouldn't recommend for kids. They also have crinkly fries - which were pretty good. I took away 1 star bc the service was a tad slow. We ate in the restaurant and there were no more than 2 other tables seated during the duration of dinner. Service was very slow or non-existent. I came across this place from google restaurants in the area, and the reviews were good, however on Yelp, not so great. I still decided to give it a shot! Being from Miami and have even exposed to real seafood, I know what good food really is, and this place did not fail! Service was fast and food came out within 15minutes which was freshly prepared. The food quality here is excellent. We got a steamer basket of crawfish and shrimp fried tilapia basket and shrimp basket. The shrimp is huge and juicy. Quirky ambiance, good food, lousy server. I wasn't really sure what to make of this place. I pass it quite often, wondering whether or not to go on. With the Red Lobster rebirth but not wanting their dusty-looking crab boil, my daughter and aI decided on this place. The ambiance looked just like you'd you expect from a seafood restaurant on an island beach. It wasn't very busy but it was early. The food was good. I got the boil with a lobster tail and my daughter got the mussels. I'd rate the food a solid 8/10. The potatoes were too big and undercooked. The only issue I had was the waitress. You don't have to have an over the top fake bubbly personality, but this girl was dry, non-responsive and stone faced. I cracked a joke but she just stood there. She got us water and eventually our food, but after that, she only came back and brought more water without speaking. In fact, she never uttered another word to us other than offer a to go bag. We left her a tip, gathered our things, and got out of there. As we were leaving, we thanked her and swear to god she never looked up. She turned what could've been a positive experience into an awkward ordeal. I could say it was just us, but she was like this to others. There's nothing worse than someone who hates their job so much that they wear it on their face. It felt uncomfortable, we couldn't wait to leave. On the other hand, the male waiter who took care of his customers was engaging, helpful and nice. I wish we had THAT guy. I could say I don't recommend it, but the food is good. I always like eating crawfish and know when it's good or fresh. I was craving for crawfish and my husband helps me to search for the crawfish restaurant and found this restaurant. He called in and asked if it's live crawfish and the answer is yes. So, we went in and order to go. We were told that it's 15-20 minutes wait. We paid and even pay tip and wait for food. I think the 3.5 average for this place is probably fair. I tried this place for the first time via Uber Eats pick-up last night, since I had a 40% off coupon to use. I was torn on what to order and will most likely order one of the seafood boils next time, since that seems to be their specialty. However, I went with the fried calamari and hush puppies with a side of clam chowder to keep things fairly affordable and simple. There were no issues ordering thru Uber Eats for self pick-up - everything was ready on time, and still warm, despite me having to fight that crazy ATL traffic with 2+ accidents on BuHi slowing things down. Even after sitting for about an hour (since of course, I had to use the restroom and fill my tires on the way home also), everything was still at a good temperature surprisingly. The calamari was still crisp, so shout out to the chef for that! When you pick up, there's a window directly to the left of the entrance inside where they hand you your food through a little door, so essentially contactless delivery which is always good in these times. It was a quick in-and-out process, and I was thankful there was plenty of parking even on a crazy Friday night. The girl who helped me was nice, and everything was packaged securely which I always appreciate, especially when there are a lot of sauces or soup included. Although, the texture and cooking of it was great, the seasoning on the calamari was quite a bit lacking for my taste. I prefer a saltier or more flavorful batter and this wasn't it. The "garlic butter" tasted just like plain butter, so not sure if they mixed that up - it was not salty or flavorful at all. However, the spicy mayo and sweet chili sauce that came with the calamari at least were nice complements to the dish and added flavor. The hush puppies were not anything special; I would say Captain D's does a better job on those overall, but they were worth a try. My favorite item was the clam chowder - it had all the flavor that the calamari and hush puppies lacked. I would get this item again, along with a seafood boil. I'm disappointed I didn't get any corn or potatoes as Uber Eats lists these items as included with the calamari and other dishes, but this wouldn't be the first time UE had an incorrect listing or issue. I guess I'll have to come back for the aforementioned items, along with the gumbo at check-in, but overall not a bad experience and definitely worth a try. read more

Shaking Crawfish is our go-to for seafood near our home. Located on Buford Highway, this place is hard to miss with its unique looking building. The style of the building is actually what made me interested in trying it out. The Atmosphere: To me, the interior of Shaking Crawfish looks like a ship that crashed and plummeted to the bottom of the ocean, with fishing nets hanging all over and boat steering wheels. I feel this decor adds to the dining experience. The Service: Eh, the service is okay. Never had anyone rude or a bad experience, but if I could give any advice, I'd possibly request that they be a bit more attentive. Check on customers from time to time. I found myself seeking a waiter/waitress more than once on different occasions. The Food: There's only ONE thing I get when I come to Shaking Crawfish: 1 pound of boiled shrimp (No head) for $14.99 with corn on the cob (.69 each). Err'thang sauce. This meal has never let me down. It comes out in a bag and you're given gloves with a bib, to prevent a mess. I highly recommend! * Once, we ordered no headed shrimp for a house warming and when we got to our location, they all had HEADS. I damn near didn't eat them. Freaked me out lol. For ages, I've been fascinated by this uniquely-shaped building housing Shaking Crawfish on Buford Highway and have wanted to go inside. Flash forward into the future, and I finally get my chance! It's very 60s modern or something, and to top it all off, stop sign-shaped. The inside's decor reminds you of a kitschy seafood shack from the beach. Shaking Crawfish plays the same short easy listening music on an endless loop, kinda tortuous after a while. Hostage situation-like. I wasn't in the mood to labor for my food with the boils and opted to get the fried everything option, or as Shaking Crawfish calls it, "crispy fried goodness." It's a fried fest for sure. I selected the Fried Goodness Combo (Pick Three). Your choices to choose from are catfish, tilapia, shrimp (head on), butterfly shrimp, chicken tenders, oysters, and calamari. This combo is a steal at $13. Though you will feel fried food fullness later, especially with the side of fries. You can elect for either regular, sweet potato, or Cajun fries. Or hush puppies. The food was cooked well, and you have a couple of sauce options like tartar, cocktail, and a mysterious one which contained Italian dressing.  I appreciated the free cup of gumbo with Yelp check-in offer, and I was pleased that the soup wasn't bad at all. It came with plenty of seafood like shrimp and mussels. The employees aren't the most helpful or knowledgeable. I would refrain from asking questions if at all possible. The hostess was really nice and friendly though.  Parking is ample, in a lot shared with the sushi restaurant next door. After hearing mixed reviews about Shaking Crawfish (mostly about service), I was still looking forward to crossing this one off my list of Buford Highway restaurants left to try. We came on a Sunday evening for dinner with a group of 7. As others have mentioned, service is not great. However, I didn't find any trouble with our server. Just hard to find at times, but I'm used to that from many Buford Highway restaurants. My friend and I shared one Seafood Combo with the mild spice for $24.99. Not a bad deal, especially if you have the Groupon. There is plenty of food, and I definitely appreciated the amount of seafood to non-seafood ratio. Sausages were tasty and the seafood seemed pretty fresh. Gloves and bibs are provided, although I felt like I could still smell the seafood on my fingers afterward lol. Got take out on the "all the seafood" boil and I am so so so so soooo disappointed!!!! Beware if you're getting take out! They will throw all rotten crap in your meal since you can't really complain if you aren't in the restaurant. They think they can get away with serving rotten seafood if the diner isn't in the restaurant. My stomach was so upset after eating the boil. I knew I should've stopped as soon as I saw the blue crab they put in the boil was rotten as hell! Legit, cracked open a claw and it was straight liquid. The crab was SO old that the meat has turned into rancid liquid! I was so grossed out I threw out the whole blue crab, and could feel how light and empty the crab was. Pretty sure blue crab is poisonous if not fresh when cooked. I just can't believe a restaurant would risk killing someone to save a few bucks on using ROTTEN crabs. Shrimp wasn't fresh either. The meat towards the head was super mushy, like would melt in between your fingers. Melting shrimp, honestly never seen that before; THAT can't be normal. I have never been so upset about a meal and honestly the health department needs to inspect better or close this place down. I spent $29 and got nothing but disappointment and shitty day (and to be honestly, quite literally). P.s. their sauce ain't good either. It's literally "layered", with all the "butter" on the top and salty seasoning on the bottom. Let me first say that I am entirely grateful for the bib and plastic gloves. Without that I would probably have to sign an environmental impact statement. Because you really do want to just dive in headfirst into all that deliciousness. We really like this place. We've been here twice to enjoy the Seafood Combo, which is a big bucket full of all your seafood favorites: Blue Crab, shrimp (head on), clams, mussels, crawfish, crab legs, ... (along with a healthy portion of sausage, potatoes, and corn). Plus, you can choose a flavor for your seafood: Cajun, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Spread, BC Special. And then add the appropriate level of heat: plain, mild, medium, or "pass the fire extinguisher." They do have other things on the menu like fried seafood baskets or chicken wings, but I think we've found our favorite, already. A full bucket of seafood contains more than enough for two people, and the price per person is reasonable. Each time we visited, we were seated almost immediately. And strangely enough, each time we visited, there seemed to pass a significant amount of time between being seated and actually being recognized by a server. I love this spot I have been coming here for years! I order the same thing every time which is the make your own seafood combo, crawfish, sausage, and snow crab cluster in the hot everything sauce! You must get the everything sauce! Try the wings as well and ask them to make it how they use to make them. You could just tell by the way it tasted. The crawfish was definitely frozen. Calamari and fries - traditional fried seafood. nothing special. Oysters - too small for the price. I had a good experience at Boiling Crawfish. All the food I had was good, but a few of my friends, who ordered different things than me, disagreed. The restaurant opened in December 2015. From what a few of us were told by one of the servers, and how I understand it, the full business name is actually "Boiling Crawfish and Crab" and the restaurant is based upon the popular Boiling Crab restaurants out west. This restaurant, in fact, uses the same Boiling Crab branded cups and gets them from The Boiling Crab's Texas location. This location, however, is not a franchise and is individually owned. Chinese ownership and staff. A second location is opening soon at the Mall of Georgia in Buford. The restaurant is located on Buford Highway near I-285 in the building that's probably best known for housing various incarnations of Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant Cafe 101. It's a unique, dated, circular shaped building. They've spiffed up the place with a big, bright, light-up sign outside and campy, beachy, nautical decor inside. I sorta like it. There are TVs playing ESPN, an oyster bar, and all tables are covered in coated disposable sheets. Since the eating is messy here (it can get so messy, they give you bibs and gloves), it makes for easier clean-up. The good stuff on the menu is listed at market price. To give you an idea on pricing, here's how much everything was during our visit: * Crawfish - $7.99/lb (buy 5 lbs get 1 lb free) * Shrimp - $11.99/lb * Blue Crab - $10.99/lb * Snow Crab - $13.99/lb * King Crab - $23.99/lb * Clams - $9.99/lb * Mussels - $7.99/lb * Lobster - $15/lb * Dungeness Crab - not available (seasonal) You purchase all of the above by the pound and each is served in a plastic bag, tossed in a sauce with spices. Sauce options include Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic spread, everything (Cajun + lemon pepper + garlic), and BC Special (described as tasting like curry). Spice levels are none, mild, medium, and hot. You can add extras into the bag, tossed in the same sauce and seasonings, such as corn on the cob ($0.69/piece), potatoes ($1.50 for 3 pieces), and sausage ($6.99). I tried the clams, mussels, corn on the cob, and sausage and thought everything was tasty. It's mainly because of the sauce, but the seafood was fresh too. I tried both the everything sauce (hot) and the BC Special sauce (medium). It was hard for me to discern between the two sauces. They might as well have been the same sauce. The sauces were very buttery, garlicky, and spicy, which is what made them so good (and bad for your health). I enjoyed slurping the sauce up from the shell with each morsel of clam or mussel. Both the clams and mussels had appetizing consistencies and no unpleasant "fishy" taste or smell. The corn and sausage were par for the course. Really, the only reason they were good is because of the sauce. Along with the aforementioned bibs and gloves, the above listed items also come with buckets (for shells), deep plates, and crab crackers if ordering crab, of course. FWIW, my friends were disappointed with the crawfish, lobster, and fried shrimp. "Rubbery" is a word I heard used by more than one person. Other food Boiling Crawfish offers include fried catfish ($8), fried shrimp ($8), chicken tenders ($5), fried oysters ($10), and fried calamari ($8) baskets. Baskets come with fries (regular or sweet potato). They also sell wings ($6 for 6 or $8 for 10) and sides like Cajun pasta, clam chowder, and gumbo ($2-3 each). I love fried catfish, so I ordered a fried catfish basket. The basket came with 4 pieces of fried catfish, which I thought was generous, atop a bed of soft and unmemorable (but not bad) sweet potato fries. I thought the catfish was OK; not significantly better or worse than fried catfish you can get just about anywhere else including Piccadilly. I wasn't a big fan of what I think was the tartar sauce. It seemed too thin. I like my tartar sauce nice and chunky. I also love raw oysters. They had 12 on the printed menu, but only 5 were available during our visit. Oyster prices ranged from $1.00 to $3.25 each. I tried one of every oyster they had: * Blue Yonder ($2.50) * Duxbury Grand ($2.25) * Duxbury Wild ($2.25) * Blue Point ($2.25) * North Carolina oysters (included on the house) The Blue Yonder and Duxbury oysters were from Massachusetts and the Blue Points from Long Island Sound. The oysters were cold, fresh, and delicious. I enjoyed every one. Some were briny, some weren't, but all were succulent. I particularly liked the Duxbury Grands. Though they weren't as strong in flavor, they were especially luscious and plump. The oysters were customarily served on ice with cocktail sauce, horseradish, crackers, and also Tabasco sauce. I want some more now just thinking about them. I thought service was good. The kitchen did get backed up because we had a large group, but I thought our two servers did a nice job. Landy was great. I ordered one of the bags with three seafood items. Getting crab legs is extra! The fries I ordered came first and just were fries with some seasoning on it. They were blah! My bag came next and there's too much water/liquid in it for the seafood to hold the seasoning flavor. It wasn't that great. When the waitress came to refill my drink, she spilled it all over the table and me. I'm sitting here with my pants leg soaked from Sprite!! My shoe is soaked and my foot is sticky. The food itself is good - my biggest complaint is the pricing. For example, the clams in garlic spread is very tasty - but they're $9.99/lb and that includes the shells and you know, clam meat is pretty tiny. We literally finished the clams w/in seconds. Also almost everything is "market price" but they don't post the prices anywhere which is frustrating. In addition, all the fried seafood baskets is mostly fries and then topped w/ just a few pieces of seafood. The interior is very fun, nautical theme, wooden tables, feels beachy - they completely re-did the former Cafe 101 space. It's interesting to see "Boiling Crab" signage/branding inside when the restaurant name is "Boiling Crawfish." Eating at this type of establishment does get messy - they provide bibs and plastic gloves which comes in handy. Service is very friendly but not always attentive (e.g., drink refills). SHRIMP - $10.99/LB All their seafood comes boiled in a bag - you choose the sauce. For shrimp, we selected Cajun Mild. It does get messy since their shrimp come w/ the heads on and shelled. Tasted good but a few seemed slimy inside. CLAMS - $9.99/LB As mentioned above, clams are very tasty in the garlic sauce. It'd be great if the restaurant provided some crusty bread to soak all the garlic deliciousness - we finished the clams w/in seconds so it was a shame not to at least enjoy the rest of the garlic juice. I really liked their garlic sauce (vs Cajun). OYSTERS - from $1.50 to $2.25 Only 5 kinds were available, all New England. We tried the Blue Point ($2.25), Billingsgate Lighthouse ($1.50), Barnstable ($1.50) and Duxbury Grand ($2.25). I'm not an oyster expert but they all seemed pretty good. FRIED CALAMARI - $8 As I complained earlier, fried baskets have few seafood and mostly fries. If you're craving fried seafood, go for the fried calamari b/c you'll get more compared to the other seafood baskets. Their calamari was very good and cooked-to-order but as I've warned, expect a lot of fries. SWEET POTATO FRIES - $3 If you're looking for a good filler, get the sweet potato fries. You get a lot. I think they use tempura batter - very good. CORN ON COB - $.69 The corn gets boiled in the bag w/ your seafood - I wasn't a fan of the corn b/c I thought it was soggy but my friend thought it was very good. PAELLA - $3 Not sure if this really tasted like paella - I thought it was more like dirty rice. I think there was just 1 mussel. Good filler though. Overall ok - not sure if this Frugal Foodie would return esp. with other similar Cajun seafood joints arriving in Atlanta. The space and atmosphere is great though. Again I'd recommend the restaurant to post their market prices on a chalkboard or whiteboard, provide bread to soak up the seafood juices, and make their branding consistent w/ the restaurant name. read more

I'm a huge crawfish fan and have honestly tried MOST of crawfish places around Atlanta. I gave it 4 stars because of the following: Location: It was easy to find. This crawfish place is located in the Cafe 101's spot on Buford Hwy. Prices: I thought the prices were decent. $7.99/lb for crawfish and $9.99/lb for clams. Also, they are running a crawfish special -- buy 5 lbs, get 1 free. I definitely took advantage of this deal since I am such a huge crawfish fan. Deep down, I was really praying that it was good. Glad it was!! Staff: Our waitress was a little awkward, but she was friendly. She lingers at our table for 5 seconds too long after the conversation was done. Decor and seating: They remind me of a seafood place near a beach with the fishing nets and fake seafood on the walls. Cute... They also have great seatings. Plenty of seats for a dinner date or a group dinner. Totally recommends this place for a group gathering. Food: I eat really spicy and like my crawfish with a kick, but I didn't get that at this place; however, not everyone can handle the amount of heat I can, so I understand. I enjoyed the flavoring, despite it not being spicy enough for me. It is so much better than it's competitor down the street, Bayou Seafood. We got the "ev'rything" and "bc" flavors on both the crawfish and clams. I prefer the "ev'rything" flavor. The crawfish were huge and the clams were decent sized. Overall, I enjoyed it, but it wouldn't be my first choice for crawfish, only because of my own personal taste. I like it a lot spicier! read more

I really enjoy this place. Service is always prompt and pretty attentive (probably because I'm too busy stuffing my face and don't ask for much). Value: for the seafood combo for $26. It includes 1/2lb each of: snow crab legs, head-on shrimp, crawfish, mussels, and blue crab (read 1 here). You get the usual accompaniment of sausage, potatoes and corn. I chose the Er'thing seasoning in medium. Unfortunately, it did not have the kick I was expecting. Still good though. The shrimp and mussels were of great size. Compared to some other establishments, I must say I like the value here a lot. Atmosphere: typical seafood shack decor. Nothing out-of-this-world but I do very much appreciate the hand washing sink outside of the restrooms. Parking: I hate the parking here. There just doesn't seem to be enough. Especially when the restaurant next door is busy. I definitely recommend this place for a good seafood boil. read more
