The atmosphere was enjoyable. This is a Mexican seafood restaurant featuring cuisine of the Cora ethnic group in the Mexican state of Nayarit, located on the Pacific Coast of Central Mexico. There are other Mexican seafood restaurants in metro Atlanta that serve the same cuisine. Examples include Mariscos El Veneno (https://bit.ly/2GY3XSL), which is also located on Buford Highway, and Mariscos La Riviera Nayarit (https://bit.ly/2H04y6f) formerly on Buford Highway, now in Norcross. Currently, El Sazon del Kora has two locations in metro Atlanta. This one opened in October 2018 in the Global Forum Shopping Center on Buford Highway OTP, downstairs from Karaoke Melody II. The other location is in Smyrna. The restaurant is big and spacious. It's great for groups, parties, and sports viewing. They have a lot of TVs and broadcast popular soccer games and fights (some on special channels or pay-per-view). They have a large bar and a partially covered patio. Sometimes, they have live music. During our visit, all of the servers/bartenders were female and they wore black collared El Sazon del Kora shirts and had earpieces. While this restaurant caters mainly to the Mexican/Hispanic community, the two servers I interacted with spoke decent English. This isn't your typical Mexican restaurant. If you want tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and the like, go elsewhere. This place specializes in seafood. The portions are big and the prices are higher than your run-of-the-mill Mexican joint. I think this place is best experienced with a group or at least one other person so you can share plates and platters. They really wow you with the presentation here and part of it is because the portions are generous. Seafood served includes oysters, shrimp, lobster, crab, mussels, clams, fish (different kinds), and even snails. They have ceviche, soups, seafood cocktails, whole stuffed pineapples, and more. Expect to spend at least $15-20 per person. Many entrees each start in the $20-30 range and can be sized up for more people (or bigger appetites). They have a full bar featuring margaritas, piña coladas, and other cocktails, beer, liqueurs, and tequila. I tried a few items: * Ceviche (complimentary) * Horchata (grande size for $3.99) * Oysters on the half shell (1 dozen for $19.99) * Charola de Almejillones Sazon del Kora ($26.99) - mussels in special house sauce * Almejas Manila ($22.50) - clams cooked "Ranch" style with white wine * Orden de pan ($2.50) - side of garlic bread In general, I thought the food was tasty. They brought out complimentary ceviche for everyone. It was delicious and one of the best things I had here. The only seafood in the ceviche was fish, so if you have a shellfish allergy like me (crustaceans), then you're fine. The ceviche tasted fresh with finely minced fish, carrots, and other ingredients plus chopped tomato, onion, and cucumber on a crunchy fried tortilla base. Along with ceviche, they brought us complimentary sides/condiments of lime, a legit spicy habanero salsa, Saladitas saltine crackers, and hard tortilla shells (much appreciated to go with the entrees). If you like horchata (Mexican cinnamon rice drink), El Sazon del Kora's version is worth ordering. It's sweet and refreshing. A little grainy and powdery, but it's not too bad, and the flavor is good. A couple of my tablemates ordered margaritas. One person got the strawberry margarita and another the mango margarita ($8.50 each). The margarita presentation was beautiful, but both commented independently that the margaritas tasted weak and watered down. Each margarita had a nice and thick chili-salt rim. The oysters on the half shell were OK. The oysters we got were tiny to medium size. I wish they had given us a few more oysters to make up for the puny ones. As far as the taste, the oysters were fresh and yummy. They were served with lime. There were already assorted Mexican hot sauces on the table as well as the habanero salsa the servers brought out, so we could use those to dress our oysters. Of the big plates, the star of the show was the mussels platter (or Charola de Almejillones Sazon del Kora). Boy, were they good. All of the mussels I ate tasted fresh. There wasn't a single bad one. The mussels were bathed in a savory red sauce which was delicious. Like mussel dishes served at other restaurants, we sopped up the juice with bread. Other ingredients included slices of tomato, cucumber, and onion. I recommend this dish. The clams (Almejas Manila) were fine. The clam meat was chopped into little pieces and served in big clam shells. The sauce was flavorful with other ingredients including orange, cilantro, cucumber, and tomato. Not sure I recommend this dish, but it wasn't bad. Service started fast, then slowed down as the evening progressed. read more

Mariscos El Sazón del Kora is a Mexican seafood restaurant with full bar. It is not a typical Mexican restaurant where you get chips & salsa, Burritos and Tacos. The menu is really unique and interesting. I tried this restaurant for the first time last night. It was surprisingly entertaining inside and fun atmosphere. I went with a group of friends and most of them loved what they ordered. Great seafood with Spanish theme. Waitstaff was very friendly and helped me with ordering because most of the menu is in Spanish. I have ordered the Huachinango Red Snapper which comes with salad, fries, rice and topped with Shrimp and tossed onions. A delicious and elegant dish that's perfect for a nice dinner. Very cool and vibrant looking bar just in the middle of the restaurant. Prices are little higher than compared to any other Mexican restaurant, but the quantity you get is much larger than anywhere else. The quality of food was good and tasty. As this is located in a shopping strip their is ample free parking in front of the restaurant. I will most definitely be coming back and sure recommend it to try at least once and you will not regret your decision. read more

The restaurant is very similar to other Mexican Seafood Restaurants in the area. Like others, they have a competition of bands inside so this will make it pretty loud, especially on weekends. The place has multiple TV's all over to watch a game here and there and is great for large groups since it is spacious with a complete bar and good service. Food wise, its pricey, but that is to be expected from a restaurant like this. The only thing, I felt that compared to other similar restaurants, food was not as great. Many of the dishes were slightly overcooked and flavor was lacking a little. It is not horrible, but for the price. I would expect better. Nonetheless, check it out. My family and I came here on May 10th to celebrate Mothers day and the service was phenomenal our waitress answered all of our questions regarding the menu. They had a variety of seafood dishes for every taste bud ! The menu was very long which was nice cause at most Hispanic seafood restaurants the Menus are not that extensive! I had the Camarones Zarrandiados which were delicious I also had two cocktails a strawberry margarita and a pina Colada which were both very strong and very tasty as well ! The waters are all made of natural fruits I had the pineapple water and it was 100% fresh you can totally tell the difference! The restaurant was very clean and had a modern twist which I really liked it was in between nautical and modern! The bar set up was really cool too they have the bar in the middle of the restaurant and tons of TVs so no matter where your seated you have a perfect view They had a live norteno band going around from table to table like at every other Hispanic seafood joint but I don't know if they always have one or if they had it just for the Mother's Day celebration. Order some langostinos and that was the only thing I could eat from my order (pregnancy can't eat raw fish) and I found glass in the langostinos. My bf ate some as well and he also found glass in his food. I was very disappointed, the glass was not small and it was inside the langostinos. Will call in the morning to request a refund. Terrible service , to start the waitress had her bandaid fall off into my lap, extremely unsanitary and unappetizing. Then, when I went to the bathroom only one sink worked and the other had a trash bag over it, then one stall had the toilet seat missing ? The shopping center that Mariscos el sazon del Kora is located brings back memories. There's enough light visibility and well maintained parking lot with plenty of space. Inside, the restaurant has a clean and spacious ambiance with restrooms on both sides of the restaurant. Plenty of seating for small and large groups with a small eating area outside. No worries about catching games because they have plenty of TVs. Service was pretty good esp for the big group that they had to accommodate. Ok so now the nitty gritty of it all - food! Came in on a Saturday night was seated for 30 minutes before we were acknowledged. Waited over 2 hours for our food and it never came. We decided to leave. That's understandable but If we had known there was a backup in the kitchen we would have went elsewhere. Our waitress(didn't get a chance to catch her name)did a very poor job.I wouldn't recommend coming to this one. The other location in Smyrna is way better. I have went numerous times and it's always a pleasant visit. Maybe due to the fact this location was mainly ran by all women. My husband and I visited this restaurant with a large group of friends for dinner. This restaurant is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking space. When you walk in, you're immediately impressed with the decor. It's clean, large, modern and well decorated. You can clearly tell that this is a seafood restaurant when you enter. The decor screams seafood! When you arrive they serve you a large tostada with a tuna ceviche, crackers and hot salsas. The ceviche and tostada are so delicious we wish we had ordered more for our meal! For my meal I ordered a fried fish topped with sautéed onions, tomatoes and peppers. It was absolutely delicious and came with a side of fries, salad, and buttered Texas toast, as well. I was so thrilled with my meal. My husband ordered skewered shrimp and he loved it as well. The shrimp was cooked so well and also came with salad, bread and fries. My only 2 qualms were that the menus were in Spanish and it was extremely hard to chose an item for non-Spanish speakers because we had to ask our waitress to translate and that took forever for a large group and that they attempted to charge me a higher price for my dish than advertised on their menu because they said I had an 'old menu' with 'old prices'. They weren't able to show me a new menu with the new price so they finally gave in and charged me the advertised price which was 18.95. Overall, I loved this restaurant. The rest of the table also loved it. Some of our friends ordered clams and mussels in a delicious sauce. They definitely loved the mussels and couldn't stop talking about it. This is probably the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The seafood is amazing, especially red snappers. I came back a few times. On weekends they have duo mariachi bands at night. Also, there are plenty of tvs at the bar and around the restaurant for games. It is a really great for seafood. read more

This is usually my favorite hispanic seafood place to go to compared to costas ... i recommended this place to all my close friends and they have loved it. been coming here since they opened and so far they have had great customer service till this time. i choose this place to have my birthday dinner i called on monday to make a reservation and spoke to a guy who apparently didnt write it down or something . i arrived and they had no reservation for me and gave me a waitress who lacked customer service. when youre paying more than $50 (bill was around $200+ with s $34 tip which was not well deserved but since it was included it was what it was) i expect to be well serviced and checked up on more than 3 times ... instead of dancing and laughing i would check on customers ... first they bring us the wrong dish & we corrected it and then after that there was an attitude change i understand if we had corrected her in a rude way but we did not ... mistakes happen ... food was excellent as always but customer servicing is what keeps a customer . read more
