First off, the free chai you can have with your meal is a huge PLUS! As for the food, I would say that 80% of the time--it is absolutely AMAZING. I especially love their chicken tikka breast piece. Their curries are a hit or a miss, and the downside is that they do use a lot of oil and seems to be quite a bit of salt. If you're on a diet of any sorts, this is not the place for you. The prices here are unbeatable, and the staff is helpful and friendly. This isn't a five-star style restaurant, but it's a great eat-in joint. If you're looking for some very tasty food and not too particular about the healthfulness, then id say this is a MUST GO. read more

The service just got so much better than when I reviewed this place earlier. The same cashier that I gave low ratings before was pleasant and helpful. Shalimar is my all time favorite restaurant! I have eaten at all three locations(Fremont, SF, and Dublin). I grew up eating the food in Fremont and when they opened the location in Dublin, my family couldn't have been more thrilled. We have a standard order that we get at the store. The boti chicken is amazing with the green chutney. The naan, rice, paalak paneer, and milli julli subji are a couple of my other favorites. I also really like the ginger chicken. Their food is a little bit on the oily side but it is still some of the best food I've ever eaten. read more

Not going to comment on the food here. The hygiene of this place is extremely questionable. But to top that off, if you ever interact with the guys taking the order or the cashier, its like they don't even want you eating at their restaurant with so much rudeness and arrogance. Went here for lunch randomly as we were in the area and thought we'd try it out. The food is AMAZING! It is a hole in the wall and the interior is very random but the food is crazy good if you're into Indian food. The Tandoor chops are awesome and the chicken Biryani is perfect. This visit was like a quick meal in a foreign country. Loved it. Order up front, staff was helpful but eager to get through line. I get it. I know what to order now. The meat...wow. So juicy and filled with herbs and spices. Get the bread. Omg, so hot we couldn't handle it. Awesome. The free chai tea is incredible. Thank you. The rice is spicey and delicious. I ordered the saag because it is what I knew. Too many better things, I wouldn't order it again. The staff was helpful, make sure you tip. He works his tail off. The tables and floor were a bit sticky and dirty. But I did mention the visit to a foreign country, right? Looking around at other tables, I noticed all used bread instead of silverware. In my opinion, I typically like the Fremont location better than the Dublin one simply because the Dublin one lacks customer service. My family always orders to go because of the restaurant sanitary. I gave 2 stars for good food only. Every time I would come and pick up, I would always come with another person simply because I can't find any parking. One time I had went in to get my to-go order and found out why it took so long to get it. They pull the people "ordering and staying in the restaurant" to the side and grab their order. Even if the next person behind me was staying in the restaurant, when they finished ordering at the side, they just slide in front of me and pay. Once I waited 20 mins just to pick up my order and it was ridiculous. If it wasn't for my family to like their milk tea, I wouldn't be coming here. read more

These guys get an absolute zero for customer service. I typically go to the one in Fremont where they appreciate recurring customers but these guys in Dublin always get orders wrong and are standoffish about it. In my last experience with them, they missed a couple dishes from our take out order that we only noticed it when we got home. This is after they confirmed twice that they got the order right during payment when I asked them. Upon calling them, I expected an apology that they missed the items and was expecting them to make us another batch, unfortunately these fools said it was my fault for not checking and that they were not responsible for it. That it was too bad, they wouldn't make another batch for us to pick up and they hung up on me.... Basically it was our fault for believing them that the order was complete and that we would not be taken care of for their mishap. So for that alone, I refuse to ever eat here again and will simply go to the one in Fremont. The lesson here is open up your take out orders and give them hell if they miss anything... I wish I had a 3.5 star option. I don't want it to be a 3, so 4 it is. The food is good, well, most of the time. I love their biryani, as against the North and South Indian biryanis available in most of the Indian restaurants (where chilli powder dominates all other flavors). Shalimar's biryani is more subtle and flavorful for me. Chicken biryani is more or less consistent. Now goat biryani, is another story. If you are lucky you will get an awsome biryani with tender goat meat and all other time you will be fighting stubborn meat from not so tender goats. The curries are always tasty, but lot of oil on the top for you to pour away. The kebabs are always well cooked, made with good quality meat. Their sheekh kebabs are always tasty, juicy and on the spicier side. The naan is huge. One naan is more than good for 2 adults and a kid. Their Haleem. Its good. Please don't expect the taste of the rich Hyderabadi haleem. It is more in line with home cooked Pakistani haleem. Lighter, with a different flavor but yum nevertheless. Tastes good as such or with naan. Not a fan of their rice. I find it a little dry for my taste. Ambience is similar to a regular eatery you can find in busy market streets in Indian subcontinent. Don't expect any frills. And wash room is not very clean too. I prefer to get the food to go than eat there. Its almost always busy, which says a lot about their food. Most of the time hits, sometimes miss. This place gives me the vibe of a busy desi street or wedding. Busy, noicy with that inviting aroma of kebabs. Will be back for more of it. read more

The food is good quick Indian cuisine. Reasonably spicy but not melt your face hot. everything is ordered at the counter so service is minimal. Can be a little greasy sometimes.
