Even though the memo offers limited options, the servers can recreate the plates to the customers liking. For example, the falafel eggplant vegetarian plate comes with hummus. I briefly mentioned that I did not feel like eating humus. The server suggested rice. She explained that the plates come with red cabbage, yellow cabbage, eggplant, hummus (or yellow rice), tabouli salad, Israeli salad (cucumbers and tomatoes)and 5 falafels. The dish comes with 4 pita breads in a plastic bag. The food reminds me of what the Mediterranean restaurants in NYC will serve. It tastes fresh. The falafel tastes crispy and spicy - the flavor tastes perfect. The red and yellow cabbages provide a balanced taste. The ingredients in the tabouli stand out - the cilantro and parsley give the salad a lively taste. The restaurant has some seating areas. Near the menu one can see a huge mixer. So i figured i would try this place again after a long time away. There prices online show a totally different price from when you go in to the store. Says $9 for Tabouli but in the store it says $13. I understand inflation, etc. But it should be updated on the website to inform the customer before they come down to the store and get sticker shock. Shaloha PITA is so amazing that I am writing this review as I am eating one of thier plates. I wanted to try little bit of everything so I got Shaloha plate. The order took about 20min since they are so busy. I recommend ordering ahead over the phone. For $18, shaloha plate comes with two big pita bread was huuuuge!! It is definitely good for two meals, maybe even three. They definitely do not skimp on their quantity or quality. Everything on the pate was so delicious.... I am not gonna lie, the parking is a bit of headache. The space is very tight and they have two entrances from two different streets so it could be a hassle. I would avoid busy time or just park on street if it is too hard. But trust me, it is worth all the parking hassles. The owner is super friendly and check up on your order constantly. My fiancé and I were craving middle eastern food and stumbled across Shaloha PITA and I am so glad we did. We always go really hard when we try a new place and want to try everything... so in true us fashion we ordered the Shaloha Pita Plate, pita chips, schnitzel pita sandwich, and a shawarma pita sandwich. I like to build my bites and wanted to try all that they had to offer so the Shaloha Pita Plate was a good fit for me. You get to try the shawarma, falafel, schnitzel, and eggplant. It also comes with hummus, pickled cabbage, rice, and a Mediterranean cucumber tomato salad thingy and two large pitas. The pita is a wonderful soft texture and very tasty as far as pita goes. My other half wanted the sandwich cause it was comes packed with all the fixings and doesn't require any assembly on your part. He of course wanted to try both... he's saving one for later because this meal was of course way too big for us lol. He had the shawarma and he really liked it. It was loaded with flavor and saucy. We of course were starving on the drive home (they have you order online and you can do curbside pickup which they walked right out to our car we didn't even need to park) and decided to open up the pita chips and try them. I highly recommend it. The texture of the pita chips are not what "normal" pita chips most people expect, I liked this more. Because it was freshly fried it was still warm, had a crisp outside, and a beautiful chewy inside. It also came with hummus which was delish. I loved the pita chips with or without the hummus, my other half preferred the fried pita by itself. Overall, we'll definitely be back again. Best to go in and order because I tried calling and I guess they dont have much help and my phone calls werent being answered. I went in person and there was 1 girl working in the front and 1 guy in the back. I understood why my phone call wasn't answered. Service did take a little long. I was having major cravings for Mediterranean food after watching a Masterchef episode challenge about a Mediterranean platter. All plates come with pickled cabbage salads, tabouleh salad, hummus, pita bread, saffron rice, and a trio of sauces. I highly recommend the shaloha plate so you can basically try a bit of everything. I personally didn't fall head over heels for the food, but I guess it's just not my cup of tea. The naan was delicious though!!! Wow. This has become one of my favorite spots for a hearty, generally healthy meal. It is a little pricey, but you get a hefty portion (whether a sandwich - $11-$13, or plate $15, $3 for extra veggies). The last few times, I got an eggplant and falafel plate filled with freshly made hummus, two kinds of pickled cabbages (red and green), tabouleh (a mix of diced parsley, cucumber, tomatoes, hint of citrus), over a bed of yellow rice. All plates come with 2 warmed pita bread, and a sampling of all their sauces. My fave is the spicy - I always ask for extra. It's enough to split for 2 meals or more. I had this place bookmarked for a good amount of time but was trying to hold off going until I could take my husband with me, because we both love Mediterranean food. When we rolled up I thought maybe we had the address wrong because from the outside, this old and decrepit strip mall definitely doesn't look like somewhere I would want to eat, at first glance. Undaunted we went in and were ignored for a good 7 minutes, and were literally the only people in the whole place except for the waitress and the cook. I ordered the Shaloha plate which seemed to have a little of everything, and he ordered the Schwarma Pita, and we used the free drink with yelp check in to get the herbal lemonade. Despite being the only ones there, we waited a super long time to get our food. Hubby dug into his pita like it was the last schwarma on the planet, while I tried each item on my plate individually. My favorite item was surprisingly the falafel, which was light, fluffy, and delicate, followed by the incredibly flavor-packed green and purple slaw. I didn't care for the eggplant slices or the rice which I thought was boring, and the tabbouleh seemed like it was missing something. If I return, I will likely get the pita chips which look very good, as the pita themselves were mindbogglingly fluffy and airy, and paired with the hummus or tzatziki sauce, could be a meal it itself. Finally got to visit a couple weeks ago with a friend. The food was good, and the service was nice. There was a check-in offer for a free drink. They gave me a cup for something like iced tea. I couldn't quite place the flavors, but it was very good, though a bit sweet for me taste. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich, and it was good. The chicken is grilled rather than cooked on a spit. And the style is Israeli. The sandwich was sizable, and I was very full after eating the whole thing. I think I'm more familiar with Turkish or Lebanese style, and I miss the flavor development of meat on a spit instead of a grill. Still, everything was good. I'd definitely go back to Shaloha. It was ok. Not awful, not particularly memorable. I'd eat there again, but I won't necessarily crave it. Maybe I've been spoiled by other places in other cities, but I just don't think it lives up to the hype. This place just wouldn't make it where Israeli food is more abundant and competitive. At the risk of being chastised by the owner (see replies to other reviewers), the food was just bland. Their fresh pita tasted store bought. My wife and I both got the chicken shawarma plates and a side of the pita chips. The chicken was bland, rice mushy and bland, hummus bland. It was better once I kinda stirred it all together, mixing in the cabbage which had good texture and acid, as well as the tabouleh which added a little freshness due to it being mostly parsley. So, the sum was better than its individual parts but still lacking in the flavor I was expecting. Even my wife who's open to different takes on cuisine opted to rummage around in the fridge for something else. Meanwhile, I powered through the leftovers for today's lunch since the bill came to $60 with tip. That's another head-scratcher since plates are $17 and the pita chips were $9. Even with a 20% tip, that comes up to $51 pre-tax. I think they charge a fee for ordering over the phone which was not communicated to me. I also noticed that ordering through Yelp has higher base prices while ordering through their website goes to Chowhound, so you'll be paying an extra fee there, too. For actual menu prices and no upcharges, it seems you gotta order in person which is not ideal amidst a pandemic. If you're not too picky or don't have numerous similar restaurants to compare this place to you might love it. The portions are generous and it's a good change of pace from plate lunch. Hands down, the best pita sandwich that I ever ate! I saw some kind of blog about how good the schnitzel pita was and I had to try it for myself. I even got a free drink with my check in with Yelp. Right across from Chaminade, you can easily miss this little hole in the wall so I'm glad I found it online. The service was great and the men working there were so kind by still letting me get the "student pita chips and hummus" even thought I forgot my student ID. Now for the food, this time around I only got the falafel pita sandwich and let me tell you, it was huge. It was almost like carrying around a small cantaloupe in a brown paper bag so it's safe to say I was stunned that the bag held up. The pita bread itself was so soft and fluffy resembling naan while the falafel didn't taste overpoweringly chickpea-y. It was my first time trying a falafel so I'm not sure what constitutes it as being good but it was a bit hard. The pita was jam packed with ingredients and the salad made it substantial. I wondered if it was worth it for $15 but it is hearty and if you aren't necessarily hungry, it could feed 2. I was also pleasantly surprised when I found that the sauce that comes with it is actually spicy so beware. The pita chips were so soft on the inside and lightly crispy on the outside giving you the same satisfaction as eating bread. The hummus was disappointing since it was quite bitter but I'm giving that the benefit of the doubt because of how good the pita was. They have a Shaloha plate to try all the entrees which is a smart offering. I can't wait to come back and try other things but I'm ultimately coming back for the pita bread. The place took me by surprise! I was craving pita and this was of course, the first search result. I loved that they had the shaloha combo where I could try everything! I did online order and I didn't realize the ETA was a bit longer than anticipated. Nonetheless, we were going to be in the area and I came way before the ETA just to see if there was a chance I could pick it up early. The cashier was super nice and said that it could be done in 5 minutes! She even brought the order to the car after since I wasn't paying attention. Everything in the Shahaloha combo was amazing! My favorite was def the hummus and the pita bread, egg plant and the fried chicken. I would still get the combo plate again as I'll never get to decide. The plates are not cheap, but for $15, they do give a lot of food. I also ordered a lemon tea drink. While waiting for my order to be completed, the server asked me if I got my drink. No I didn't. The owner says he'll make it for me, but the server says she'll make it, great! She digs for a plastic cup and hands it to me. No service, no ice offered either. OK, my food is done, the server hands me the paper bag with my food, we jump back in the car and find a place to park and eat. We open up the plate cover and wow, the food looks so good,and lots of it! But wait, we dig through the bag... No utensils was packed in the bag to eat, soooo fingers it is. Dig in the bag.... Located across from St. Louis drive inn, it shares a private parking lot with multiple businesses like L&L. Parking is usually easy to grab with about 10 stalls in the lot, but peak hours can get busy. There's a few counter stool seats inside but it's mostly a grab n go affair. The menu is not extensive because they specialize in their house made pitas and plates. You choose between a plate or a sandwich ($15/$12). They have falafel, chicken shawarma, eggplant, etc. The plates come with rice and the sides while the sandwich is in a pita. Their ingredients are all extremely fresh. I think their falafels are stellar, chickpea fried perfection with a crunchy, not greasy coating. I always order the sandwich pita which comes with at least 6 falafels, the sides (red cabbage, regular cabbage, tabouleh), hummus, and tahini sauce. They don't just half a pita, they use the entire round pita and just cut off a part of the top so everything can be stuffed inside. It's tasty with their homemade hot sauce. The only thing I think I'd personally add is some lemon juice for a bright citrus note. I also highly recommend their pita chips which comes with hummus to dip in. I ordered the falafel sandwich and a lemonana drink. The sandwich was huge, with around 6 pieces of falafel and plenty of veggies. I wasn't a fan of the greens used (parsley?), but the drink was refreshing. Be warned that there is no seating. read more
