A local favorite for when you want Peking Duck, soup dumplings, noodles and pork belly. I literally just told you everything I ordered this visit. And more: cold dish - garlic cucumbers to start. Classic soup dumplings (pork filling). I usually do not order the crab meat or other varieties as those seem gimmicky. The restaurant gives you a free order of pork dumplings with dine-in purchase of $20+. This visit I did try a new noodle dish - egg noodles with crab roe. It was interesting indeed. While I've had better crab roe toppings (this one was a bit greasy//oily for me) I can see why they added it to the menu. It's been a trend. The Peking Duck and crispy skin pork are still my go to dishes when coming here. It's just not easy to make at home so I'm happy to buy it. Totally classic dishes. We also ordered the beef pancakes which is also a great sharing plate. This spot is a keeper. We dined here tonight and couldn't help but wonder why we hadn't come back sooner since our last visit. The entire staff was professional and courteous, but the manager, Leo, truly stood out. He has always been warm and welcoming. Over the years, we've even had the chance to chat in our dialect, Shanghainese, on several occasions. He consistently goes out of his way to make sure guests feel well taken care of. Tonight, my husband ordered the General Tso's chicken, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Of course, I couldn't resist ordering a little too much for myself-- fried bean gluten, mixed vegetables, pan fried udon noodles, and brine squid. As always, they sent out complimentary steamed pork soup dumplings and, to finish, two sweet fermented glutinous rice soups for dessert. I even had leftovers--udon noodles and fried bean gluten--for lunch tomorrow. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and carried a deep sense of nostalgia--the flavors truly brought me back to where I grew up in Shanghai. Best Shanghainese spot in east Queens! Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with the family. Gets crowded 12:00pm onwards so come here early if you can! Bayside is the only location for their roast meats so would recommend getting their roast duck or crispy pork when you're here. Had a Father's Day lunch with my family. We've been here several times before. Today, the restaurant was comfortably busy, ambiance is casual, service is fast and friendly. Soft modern chinese music played in the background . First, there is a dine-in promotion - spend at least $10 and receive complimentary 6 more buns, 6 soup dumplings, or 1 peking duck bun per person. We also ordered 1/2 Roast Duck (loved it), Shanghai Chicken Special (slightly bland but ok), Salted Sliced Fish in Rice Wine (delicious), Beef and Broccoli (the beef was tough but my daughter is addicted to this dish), and Spring Rolls. As a finale, we were surprised by (not sure of the exact name) Sweet Rice Wine Soup on the house. Note that this is cash only dining establishment. Came here to bayside location for some Soup dumplings. We decided to be adventurous this time and order new items. We ordered spicy beef and tripe, crab noodles and crab pan fried buns. This all came with an order of free soup dumplings. The spicy beef and tripe was served as a cold appetizer. We would have enjoy it more if it was served hot. We also ordered the crab roe noodles, this was interesting to try. It was very tasty for the first bites. As for the crab pan fried buns (new menu item), we got this because we love pan fried buns especially the one in new rold mall food court. Definitely a place to visit when in bayside and if you are craving Chinese food. They have a lot of seats and kinda have a dim sum vibe when you walk in. We ordered a huge spread of food and as always, the food here is great. I personally just did not enjoy the spare ribs and the duck slices seemed a lot thinner than usual. Other than that, the noodles were great and came with a side of peanut sauce, one of my favorites. The wontons were nice and juicy as well as had a nice kick. And my absolute favorite, the grandma braised pork. That is basically why I always go to Shanghai you garden. I think their braised pork is one of the best I've had and the quail eggs are nice and tender and have a very nice pop to them. The service is good. Most of the items at this place are poorly done, the majority of items here are either way too tough or too oily, with that said this place is a solid option for one thing and one thing only, their soup dumplings. Very disappointing experience. I ordered two orders of Peking duck. I watched the staff reheat day-old Peking duck in a microwave before serving it. It was dry, tough, and almost impossible to chew. I immediately asked for a refund because the food was clearly not fresh, but the restaurant refused. The server told me that this is simply how they serve their Peking duck. The soy milk also tasted stale and did not seem fresh. After I got home, I tried the duck again, but it was so tough that I couldn't chew it, so I had to throw it away. There are some dishes you can't find in other places. The malantou was my favorite app. The jellyfish with turnips had interesting consistency and was not bland. The roast beef app was good but did not stand out. The soup dumplings were delicious too, the pork was complimentary and Classic delicious and the crab was deliciously savory. Well, seems to be an annual visit around my birthday since we discovered the Flushing location back in 2017 attending Lady Gagaga's Citi Field concert. I was very surprised how busy this place was, we had to wait for a table, not very long, but In any case we ordered: Shanghai Special Chicken (cold), Sautéed Crystal Shrimp, Shanghai Sautéed Pork Fried Rice with Vegetables, Soup Dumpling with Pork (2X), Fermented Glutinous Rice (dessert), Shanghai Pan Fried Udon Noodle, Nest Style Cashew Chicken and Steamed Roast Pork Bun Once the orders were placed, within a few minutes the first items started to arrive - special chicken, soup dumplings... all delicious & some leftovers to take home. Shanghai You Garden has been a staple on Bayside's Bell Boulevard for years, but now even more so after they partnered with Corner 28 for their barbeque/roasted meats. I've dined here in numerous occasions with several entrees being a hit or miss. The most consistent and popular item is their famous soup dumplings, which one round comes free with every meal (over $10). My typical meal here consist of 2 rounds of soup dumplings, Peking duck, and some small appetizers. I've found that their entrees are quite oily and doesn't hit the spot. On my last trip, we were able to order the soy sauce chicken, which wasn't on the menu, but from the Corner 28 stall in front. However, I believe their meat over rice platters are take-out only. My last take-out meal was disappointing and underwhelming as there was way too much rice and not enough meat. Overall, I highly recommend Shanghai You Garden for their soup dumplings and hope Corner 28 sticks around. read more

I recommend the scallion pancakes ($8.95), which were so crispy that we ended up ordering another portion. They also have peking duck duns for $2.50 a piece. The cucumber garlic ($7.95) needed a slight more acidity, but was balanced well between sweet and salty. They also provide a spicy sauce on request. Service: We were a party of 5 and they only provided us with one small teapot. We had to ask multiple times for more tea. It took a while because our server did not really check up on us. There was only one other party in the establishment so it was not busy. When we did put in a request for more tea, it still took him some time to bring it out. I feel like he should have given us at least TWO teapots so we would not have to keep trying to flag him down. Ambiance: They do not have dim sum carts at this location. The menu has pictures which is nice to have a visual aid in choosing what to order. You either get free soup dumplings or peiking duck but they didn't ask us and just put down soup dumplings at our table. The service was what really put me over the edge. Old asian man server came over 4 times to ask us to pay. We told him we weren't ready yet but he insisted we pay immediately. This was at 8PM and the restaurant closes at 10PM. Restaurant had many empty tables and we weren't a large party. Not sure why he was insisting we pay before we finished our food and even circled the tip amount we have to pay. I don't think he deserved 18% tip at all with the attitude. We waited over 15 mins for someone to finally refill our water. This place is CASH ONLY or zelle / venmo (which isn't a business account by the way) but they tell you to pay tax. They seemed to have a keen eye for when you're finalllly ready to order (I sometimes take forever) or when you need assistance with something. While I could have easily forced myself to finish with no regrets, I took about 1/3rd home for leftovers. I'm no psychic but I'd wager that they get devoured before bedtime. With so many different restaurants that offer soup dumplings, it's sometimes hard to choose. However, this place is always a solid choice with a pretty extensive menu. This Shanghai You Garden is located in the busy area of Bayside on Bell Blvd. Parking is primarily through meter parking. I've been to the Flushing location, and the Bayside location and going to either of them is the same. When you dine in, you have the choice to get a Peking duck bun or free soup dumplings if you spend a certain amount. Inside, there seems to be an ample amount of space and seatings, and it doesn't feel claustrophobic in there. Whenever I go, my usual order is the Pork Soup Dumplings and the Pan Fried Noodle with Beef. The soup dumplings always come out piping hot, and I feel like the skin is not too thick and not too thin. There is plenty amount of soup inside the dumplings as well. Be careful when you pick up the dumpling as the skin can rip, and you can spill all of the soup inside. The Pan Fried Noodle is always a must for me. I love how the noodle is so crispy when it comes out, and it soaks up all the sauce that gets placed on the top. I pair this with the chili crisps that they have on the table. The Wonton in Chili Oil with Peanut Butter was pretty standard, and the Sweet Tofu Pudding was light in flavor and soft. At the end of your meal, they will give you Fermented Glutinous Rice Dumpling, which I think is a great way to end your meal. It was super light and sweet. One thing to note: The last time I went, I ordered the Pan Fried Pork Buns, which unfortunately came out raw. We let the staff know, and they immediately took it away. All the staff was do friendly and very on top of everything. When you dine in and spend at least $10, you get either a steamed duck bub per person or and order of pork soup dumplings. We opt'd for the buns and they were delicious. You are also served a pot of hot tea which was great. We ordered a bunch of items; the scallion pancake with beef was crispy and delicious. The wontons with spicy oil were good, but not as spicy as I expected; they also had a peanut flavor which was tasty. The Pork Moon Cake was excellent, flavorful ground pork encased in a light almost sweet flaky dough. The Garden Special Soup Dumpling came with 2 each of 3 varieties of pork soup dumplings and they were all delicious. The 2 things that weren't my favorite were the Shanghai Shao Mai, the flavor was just ok and they seemed a bit gummy. The Yangszou Fried rice was good, but a bit on the bland side. We decided to try this place out because we always see a line waiting for tables. What a disappointment. Pro: You get free soup dumplings and desserts (only pro actually). Con: 1. Horrible service, and it is not the typical stereotype of 'the food must be good if the service is bad'. It's more of their staff almost flipped out because a 5 year old standing at the hallway when there were plenty of room for them to walk past. Our little one is not the best behaved in public and I understand we have responsibilities to make sure she doesn't cause disturbances to others but this is the first time we are at a restaurant with the staff that literally got mad at us because our 5 year old is being a 5 year old. 2. They totally forgot one of our orders. So when we finished eating, I tried to ask for a check and asked for that dish to be removed from the bill because we've never gotten it. Instead of doing the right thing, the waiter told us the kitchen probably prepped it so he can't cancel it for us and went ahead to check with the kitchen. He came back 5-10 minutes later saying the chef is making it so definitely no canceling. Basically we were forced to take the dish home even though we couldn't eat it there. 3.
