Eggplant with Diced Fish in Casserole and shrimp Lo Mein

Wow! This is hands down my fave Chinese restaurant in the area. Ordered eggplant with dice fish, shrimp lo mein and crab rangoon. Everything was on point so delicious. Highly recommend and def going to order from here again to try other dishes!!

Nice touch!! Friendly labeling of our dumplings

Suggest eating in at Legend of Taste for a traditional table feel, super courteous staff, welcoming environment and the hottest freshest meal. This time we got take-out; been ordering from Legend for years, they never make a mistake. Got a bunch of dumplings, boneless pork ribs, shredded pork with bamboo and extra rice. So much food for the money, so friendly... everything packed carefully, containers nicely labeled! A fresh and delicious meal with plenty of leftovers for the weekend. The chef is on point, and has been known to accommodate special requests. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

Amazing food with reasonable prices! All dishes had great flavor and we had a wonderful, attentive waitress for the night. The cook is from Sichuan, so the food is pretty authentic! My favorite was the Beef Chow Fun, definitely coming back here

    Szechuan Szechuan Style Crispy Eggplant
    Irene D.

Szechuan Style Crispy Eggplant (3/5) - $18.95 The Szechuan Style Crispy Eggplant was very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is perfectly spicy. The first few bites were good but the breading of the eggplant became overwhelming. It was a bit too oily for me but overall an interesting dish. Ma-La Griddle pot (4/5) - $26.95 Ma-La griddle pot came with Ox tripe, lamb, beef, celery, seafood, etc. It was a mixture of everything together. I would say the dry hotpot in new world mall is still my favorite but it is still enjoyable. It packs a lot of flavors. Fried Chicken Wing (3.5/5) - $9.95 The Fried Chicken Wing seem to be missing some seasoning. It was pretty salty but it just tasted salty with no special seasoning. Extra Food came very fast It was pretty empty on a Thursday night Takes card The waiters were friendly

A little bit of all the food we ordered

I ordered a few dishes from here on Saturday afternoon for a total of 11 people. The online ordering made it very easy to put in the order and choose either pickup/delivery. There are many different dishes to choose from. We ordered the following dishes for 11 people and still had leftovers. 2 Scallion pancakes (8 pieces each), 3 little juice pork buns (4 pieces each) (soup dumplings), beef with mixed vegetable, sesame chicken, bok choy with black mushrooms, jumbo shrimp with walnut, shrimp fried rice, vegetable pan fried noodles, steamed fish fillet with ginger and scallion, and hot and sour soup (small). Each of the entrees came with white rice as well. Our total was about $169. We even got a discount ordering online since it was over a specific amount. All the food was very flavorful and delicious. All the guests were surprised by how big the jumbo shrimp was and there was vermicelli in the steamed fish fillet dish. The soup dumplings had very flavorful juice in the dumpling. Some restaurants food would be very salty, but this one was not. Definitely try this place!

Chili Pork Wonton in Red Oil ($9, delivery) - a splurge worth getting
    Jess L.

There are a lot of good options out there, and this one is worth a shot. We got some of our favorites to compare to other szechuan options in the area. It's worth splurging on the pork wonton in chili oil. As for main items, we really liked the lamb with cumin. One disappointment was not getting the stir fried pork belly with chili and leeks despite having ordered it. Instead, we got the Stir Fried Pork Intestines in Chili instead. The taste was good, but the vast majority were the veggies. (My photo shows the original dish and what it looked like after I ate the pork.) Not getting my dish plus the abundance of non-protein ingredients was a disappointment. Good flavors, though! Check them out.

Double cooked sliced pork was tasty with plenty of "wok hei" (breath of the wok)

The food was fresh and tasty and service was superb! We went there because chef is from Sichuan so we tried the Sichuan dishes which did not disappoint!

Lunch special chicken broccoli and garlic eggplant Not seen: side of white rice and wonton soup Each at $8.25
    Karen S.

4.5! (As I need to try more dishes to give the full 5) Ordered delivery and was quoted 45-60min and was pleasantly surprised to hear my doorbell at the 20min mark. I was craving good fake Chinese food (chicken and brocolli) and decided to give Legend of Taste a try after passing by a couple of times. It's entirely possible to have bad chicken brocolli but Legend of Taste did not disappoint me! I absolutely loved it. I also ordered their garlic eggplant and was blown away. (It's no wonder they got Michelin Bib Gourmand) Can't wait to try their other dishes! Will definitely be ordering again.

Fast delivery. Good food. The restaurant should label the dishes when a multiple order is being delivered. Also should include utensils.

Starting off, the numbing szechuan chicken was my least favorite of the dishes - the pieces of chicken were really tiny and there were a lot of peppercorns. I wish they made the pieces of chicken slightly larger as it was irritating to slowly pick it out towards the end of finishing it. Now, what went well were the stone pot with the fish. Normally not a huge fan of fish, so if I can enjoy eating fish a place has done well in preparing it. The soup was really flavorful and everyone at my table enjoyed it. The sweet and sour pork was also nice. The breading was crispy and the sauce had a nice tangy flavor to it and the texture was interestingly satisfying. The grilled beef ribs and bao buns were one of my favorite. The beef rib was very tender and went well with the buns and condiments that were provided.

We walked into…read morea space where the elaborate décor immediately stood out, with traditional architecture, lanterns, and themed details that made it feel like stepping into an old Chinese village. The restaurant was much larger than it first appeared, and the atmosphere added just as much to the experience as the food itself. The room had a lively, bustling energy with tables spread across multiple sections, and the steady flow of diners reflected its popularity as a destination for a full hot pot meal. The hot pot menu offered a wide variety of broths, meats, seafood, vegetables, and handmade specialties. We appreciated that there were options for both spice lovers and those who prefer something milder, with the signature Chongqing broth delivering the classic numbing mala flavor while the tomato and mushroom broths provided a lighter alternative. The ingredients tasted fresh, and there were plenty of premium cuts of beef, seafood, and specialty items to choose from. The self-serve sauce bar was another highlight, letting us customize our dipping sauce exactly how we liked it, with a wide range of condiments and toppings that allowed for endless combinations. The restaurant gets very busy, especially during dinner and weekends, so planning ahead is important. Reservations are highly recommended because walk-in waits can easily stretch over an hour. Even with the large dining room, the staff did a good job keeping everything organized and regularly checked in throughout the meal. Despite how crowded it could get, service remained attentive and food arrived at a steady pace. The team moved through the room with efficiency, keeping the broth refilled and the table cleared without making the experience feel rushed. Overall, Chongqing Lao Zao delivers much more than a typical hot pot meal. The combination of high-quality ingredients, customizable broths, and one of the most impressive themed dining spaces we have experienced makes it a place we would gladly return to. If you are looking for authentic Chongqing-style hot pot in Flushing, this is one of the strongest options available.

Food: 4.1/5 Service: 5/5…read moreAmbiance: 3/5 Overall: 4/5 We came on a Friday morning around opening time and were lucky enough to not have to wait for a table (though many parties did have to wait). We were seated towards the back of the restaurant where we found a cockroach crawling on the bench seat. Also, the straw decoration on the bench seat was uncomfortable throughout the meal for me particularly. Our waiter, since it was our first time, helped us a lot in choosing the broth and its spice level (we ended up getting tomato and mild chongqing), as well as helping us with the amount of food we would be ordering (which turned out to be almost the perfect amount of food for our party of 6). Some of my favorite dishes that we got were the: - Wide Potato Noodles - Doesn't take that long to cook, SO chewy and nice, pairs well with any broth or sauce - Enoki Mushrooms - My favorite kind of mushroom, even more chew and great noodle substitute - Fried Breadsticks - Very crunchy and don't lose that much crunch whenever dipped or soaked in the broths. - Sliced Beef - Standard and really good meat option for hotpot. Some of their specialty beefs are also interesting, but I ended up just preferring this over those. - Beef Tendon - I lied. This was the best meat option. Extremely soft and melts in your mouth. Doesn't take more than 5 seconds to cook. Just so good. Even with everything that I liked, I didn't find that much that was superior to other hot pot places that I have been to. I did enjoy the food that we did have, but with the insane wait that I would likely have if I came back as well as the high price of the meal, I don't know if this would be worth coming back to in the future.

Cuisine: 6 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 5 Value: 8 Overall: 6 This is the restaurant that replaced Szechuan House, a beloved staple in Flushing since 1985. The food is very different, it's from the Dongbei (northeast) region of China. However, people will inevitably compare the flavors to its predecessor, though it is definitely not an apples to apples comparison. The cooking style of Dongbei cuisine is very hearty and savory. They also prefer noodles, breads, and dumplings as their staple over rice. Due to the extremely cold weather, they also focus quite of bit on pickled vegetables. Looking through their huge menu, I mainly focused on ordering the local dishes from Dongbei and veered away from items that are popular from other parts of China like Shanghainese soup dumplings or Szechuan sauerkrat fish. Here is what we had below. Spiced Wide Noodle w/ Mixed Vegetable & Pork (6.5/10) - This popular cold noodle dish was decent, but I had better versions around Flushing. Slightly too sauced up, but lacked a bit of vinegary touch. Spicy Pork Kidney (8/10) - This is one of the only non-Dongbei dishes I got because I'm a fan. Well, as expected, the flavors are not as bold or spicy as how it would be made by a Szechuan restaurant. However, it was boiled perfectly and super tender. Mix Dried Tofu Shreds (3/10) - Not sure why anyone would pay for this dish. Basically combining flavorless julienne dried tofu with cilantro. Tofu w/ Century Egg Salad (3/10) - Not inedible, but almost no flavor and felt like they just threw a bunch of chopped up century egg into silky tofu. Seasoning? I make a much better version at home. North China Sticky Pancake (6/10) - Stuffed with slightly sweet red bean paste, this sticky rice pancake is okay, but nothing special. Stewed Chicken w/ Mushroom (7/10) - The chicken was clearly overcooked, but the soup flavors were excellent, allowing the tree mushrooms and vermicelli soak up all the yumminess. Sautéed Triple Vegetables (8/10) - Classic dish from Dongbei done relatively well. I believe it could use a bit more crispiness, but pretty good overall. Pine Nuts & Baby Corn (6.5/10) - The baby corn was quite sweet, while the pine nuts add a bit of earthiness. It's a decent dish, but not special. Cumin Lamb (7.5/10) - I wish they used fresh cumin instead of powder, it would have made this dish even more aromatic and flavorful. Meat was relatively tender. Fried Pork in Sweet Sour Sauce (6/10) - Be nice if the pork was a bit thicker and definitely more tender. The batter was mochi-like and crispy. Shredded Pork w/ Bean Paste (7/10) - Definitely over salted, too much bean sauce. However, the pork was tender and the bead curd sheets were delicious. Sautéed Pork Intestine w/ Fresh Chili Pepper (8/10) - Maybe my favorite dish of the night. A few others said the same. Fatty and luxurious with a bit of heat. Crispy Fish Cutlet (7/10) - This dish was served cold and not crispy as the name suggests. However, the bones are all edible from the cooking process, marinated in a semi-sweet soy based sauce. Pumpkin Puffs (6/10) - Not bad, but once again, I had better versions around Flushing. More red bean paste filling and more pumpkin taste would be nice. Napa Cabbage & Pork Dumplings (7.5/10) - The skin was pretty smooth and not too thick. I do prefer one that has more filling, but it tasted pretty good. Shrimp, Pork & Chive Dumplings (7/10) - Same as the other dumpling. I also didn't taste the shrimp much. As for the food, I would say that there is better specialty shops around Flushing that sell Dongbei style noodles, dumplings, or pancakes. There are also restaurants that cook cold and hot dishes with more flavor. However, the pricing on everything is very reasonable and portion sizes are large. One more thing to add, the owner was kind and offered us free beers and beverages for the evening since we were a large party and it's their grand opening week. The waitress was also quite attentive to our requests and patient with my questions. However, the food did come out way too fast and furious. I had to remind them to slow down, which they eventually did. Unfortunately, our group of 12 came for the food and it just didn't hit the spot for most of us. I am more than willing to come back and try more dishes since the service and value is there.

Everything came out great I don't think there are bad options coming out of the kitchen just flavor profile preferences. My highlight was the salted egg corn and minced beef egg drop soup which were just evil how good they were, I'd come back for these alone. We had the fish with peppercorn, fried pork in sweet and sour sauce, sweet potato desert, braised beef with quail eggs etc. I'd suggest all of them as well. We will be back as a group.
