My review is only based on dimsum experiences, I haven't been here for lunch or dinner. The staff make me homesick for Hong Kong as they all give "caring aunty" vibes. In terms of food, this is my favorite dimsum spot in NYC as someone who grew up in Queens and had a fair share of experiences throughout flushing, Chinatown, and Bensonhurst. I tend to come to dimsum on the earlier side, like 10a-11a and each time notice how fresh the food tastes. There have been a few times where I wanted something that wasn't ready, and the staff would respond by telling me to wait a bit and they'll make it fresh for me. Don't know many other spots that will do that. This place isn't ever too crazy packed either due to being in Little Neck so you're well attended and not competing for attention from the cart ladies, which is a huge plus Woo woo

Worst dimsum place in New York. Very less options, only 2-3 dimsum cart keep turning around. I asked Manager if there is other dimsum cart here, he said yes, but still the same cart coming back and forth. It's super limited choice here. Secondly, the food tasted really bad here, the crispy Taro ball is bland. Clam noodle doesn't have clam meat inside. All dimsum has small portions. I don't recommend coming and definitely not coming back again

It's hard to find good lunch deals anymore, especially with inflation pushing prices higher and higher. However, New Northern Manor still provides a nice lunch deal, with a main dish, soup, and spring roll, all very tasty! The dim sum lady was very sweet and was concerned I would get cold sitting near the front door, which I felt very appreciative towards her for being so caring and considerate. The food arrived in less than 5 minutes and everything tasted awesome! Highly recommend coming here for a nice warm lunch that won't break your bank! It's very spacious too so you'll definitely feel comfortable! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

Classic Cantonese seafood cuisine, expertly prepared food. Best if you can go with a group, especially if the group is Cantonese. Our group of 14 were seated in the inside room since those in the party knew the restaurant management well. Also our party had professional Chinese chefs, so the kitchen pulled out all the stops. We had (if I can remember): -cold jellyfish appetizer -fish maw soup (best with red vinegar) -grilled lamb chops with garlic bits and peppers -whole chicken, sliced with special ginger garlic sauce (not overpowering but subtle) -shrimp with walnuts and broccoli -water spinach sautéed -tiger fish steamed with soy ginger and green onion sauce (according to table, difficult to get it right. Our fish was firm springy clean almost sweet - good water, just excellent) -king Alaska crab cooked three ways -sautéed crab legs over ee-fu noodles in crab sauce -deep fried crab joints with batter -crab fried rice served in crab shell -beef with Chinese broccoli Table was groaning, with amazing dishes. They gave us red bean hot desert, sliced oranges, hot sesame mochi, and yellow sponge cake. Along with some comp Heinekens. Great meal, with plenty of leftovers. Apparently their dimsum is good too. Parking in back. Definitely a good alternative to the busy flushing places.

Good place for Cantonese food. Also daily dim sum at lunchtime although sone items run out if you come later. Very Hong Kong-like. Can also order off extensive menu. Big tank with crabs and sea food that can be ordered. Good sign; virtually entire clientele is Chinese!

The overall theme of this dinner was disappointment. ENVIRONMENT: We came the Saturday before Christmas Eve. Once we were seated, it took 20+ minutes for them to take our order because of how busy it was. We literally had to flag a waiter down. One of our water glasses had a lipstick stain. The tables were so crowded together, you felt packed like sardines (not to mention again that there was not enough staff to tend to the tables). Our glasses were not filled, our plates were not replaced, and we were not attended to in the slightest. The bathroom was filthy as well. FOOD: Now - onto the food. The only redeeming dish was the Soy Sauce Chicken, and their most popular one. The chicken was moist and the sauce was savory without being too salty. If you come here, you should get that. For the others, I was largely disappointed again, and portions for many were small and overpriced: 1. Clams: super fishy and the sauce was salty. I could tell that the clams were cold and just mixed in with a heated sauce, so very clearly served in a rush. Low quality. 2. Mushroom/Vegetable Dish: it overall looked how it tasted: extremely plain and unseasoned. The soup/sauce was way too watery. 3. Sesame Chicken: honestly the worst sesame chicken I've ever had. The chicken was dry, the breading wasn't crispy, and the sauce was too watery and barely coated the chicken. AND they forgot the sesame seeds lol. 4. Pea Shoots: the sauce was watery again, and overall flavor was plain. While the vegetables were tender and the dish large, it was also $30 for vegetables... 5. Lobster Noodles: they didn't provide serving utensils. It's pretty good, but the noodles were wet and there was nothing outstanding about the lobster. Will not be coming back.

This place is great of authentic Cantonese cuisine. They have dim sum in the morning, lunch specials and delicious dinners. They have set menus for banquets or you can order your favorites off the menu. If you don't see it, ask if they can make it. The latest change is, the restaurant expanded into the shop next door! More room for parties! Karaoke In the back. Same good food! It was quite busy on a Saturday night! Make reservations!

I haven't been back to this restaurant for dim sum in a long time cause I've just preferred other dim sum restaurants. When I came yearsss ago, I remember not really enjoying the food here but I decided to give it another try since it's been renovated and has new ownership. However, I still did not enjoy it. I came for dim sum on a Sunday morning and there wasn't a wait to be seated but most of the tables were filled up and it certainly was busy inside. They had the aunties pushing the carts which is always a good sign for me at dim sum restaurants but the selection wasn't that big. They did have the basics like chicken feet, steamed shrimp rice rolls, and sticky rice in lotus leaf but they apparently ran out of shumai and we ended up getting it half an hour later when they restocked it in the carts. I also wanted the fried dough rice rolls which they said would be out later but ended up never coming out (and we were there for at least an hour). I love dimsum cause you can always get a variety of different things to share between everyone and I love being able to try a bit of everything. However, all the items we got were mediocre. The flavor just wasn't there. Just noting a few examples below: - Fried shrimp rolls weren't crispy enough and had very little shrimp filling, it was basically just a fried wrapper. - Sticky rice in lotus leaf is usually one of my favorites cause there's usually a bunch of different things inside, packing in all the flavor. But the one here was not as aromatic as it should've been and had a weird aftertaste that I did not enjoy, maybe it was in the pork mixture? - The fried football looking thing is usually so fun to eat cause there's so many textures from the fried outer shell to the sticky mochi-like texture and the savory filling but this one lacked filling. - Many of their steamed items (shumai, chicken feet, dumplings) also lacked flavor. Overall, food was not up to par with what I usually get from other dim sum restaurants. The lack of variety was also disappointing. I would rather go to LN1380 for dim sum next door (which is really good and one of my top picks) or if you don't mind trekking into Flushing, New Lake Pavilion is my favorite!

Old name: Northern Manor 同樂軒 New name: New Northern Manor 新同樂 We haven't come here for a long time. Upon visiting, we found out the restaurant name was changed. It is still a dim sum seafood Chinese restaurant. Many previous staff still work there. Not much changes inside. The size of this restaurant is small compared to most restaurants in Flushings. Queens or Chinatown in the city. Parking: free private parking behind the restaurant. You have to turn into an alley next to it. You will see a nice bank parking lot to your right. Very tempted but you can't park there. Instead you turn left into a little alley way behind a small house. Then you will see a small parking lot. It's small and holds may be 15 -20 cars. Space is tight so drive carefully. Other option is street parking. Meter parking right outside the restaurant. Service: Service was good. Staff was friendly. Dim sum carts were available on the day we went which was a non weekend public holiday. If you want particular dim sum but you don't see in the carts, ask them for it. They may bring out some from the kitchen for you. Food: Comparing taste and portion to other restaurants in flushings and Chinatown, there's definitely room for improvement. It was a regular dim sum place ( they serve dinner too but I didn't try). Great advantage is parking is a whole lot easier than flushings and Chinatown. I also avoided the hectic traffic in those area. Price: Dim sum price is competitive. . Payment: Credit card accepted. Cash payment may earn you a discount. Let them know you are paying with cash when you ask for the bill. Conclusion: If you don't want to drive to flushings to deal with the crazy traffic, this is a good choice for dim sum. It was good enough to satisfy my craving for dim sum.

Ask the Community - New Northern Manor

Does anyone know if they are permanently or temporarily closed and if temp when they will reopen?

Hello, We're temporarily closed due to a fire we experienced in early September. We hope to reopen by December.

Do they have a changing table in the bathroom?

    No they do not.

Do they serve dimsum all day or is there a certain hours?

I understand they usually sell out by early afternoon. Management has changed recently so I am not sure if this will be the same case. Dimsum won't make substantial entrees for dinner fare.

Do they have the carts on weekdays too?

Yes they have dim sum carts on weekdays.

Family favorite dim sum spot for almost 10 years!…read more We love coming here for weekend dim sum and occasionally dinner. Their fried dim sum dishes are great! Also, after 11:00am, the kitchen opens so you can order any rice, noodles, and other main dish items to go with your dim sum. Our favorite dim sum items include: - Taro with salted egg yolk bun(?) - Fried shrimp rolls (ha tiew) - Fried shrimp wrapped in bean curd And our favorite main dishes: - lobster fried sticky rice (they make it the best here!) - peking pork chops - honey walnut shrimp - fried small fish (shown in picture, not sure of name) You can't go wrong if you come here for dim sum or dinner. Plus, I feel like they're always open even in inclement weather. Other tips: There is a small parking lot in the back, but we usually do street parking as their parking lot is hard to get in/out of! If you come on the weekends, try to come before 11:30am to guarantee a table without a wait.

I also have not been here for a while and decided to update my previous review since my experience this time was much better. We came as a group of seven for dim sum today. It was MLK's Day, so the restaurant was quite busy. With that said, I'm not sure why much of the food was served barely warm or room temperature. Thankfully, the taste of many items were quite good. That included the Pork Stuffed Tofu Skin, Salted Egg Lava Buns, Phoenix Claws (chicken feet), and Fried Fish Paste Dumplings. Everything else was fine in general, except the Sesame Balls and Fried Sticky Rice were underwhelming. Honestly, I wouldn't drive this far out to have dim sum when I have plenty of options in Flushing. However, it's nice to know that I have a decent option if I'm in this neck of the woods.

For one, I think they strategically set up shops in areas far out in Queens that are not easily accessible or overrun by the masses--this can easily bring down a business' quality. We ordered a variety of things to try, including their range of char siu baos, like the pineapple bun, the snow crust, and the regular baked bun. Definitely a step up above what Mei Lai Wah is now, with the chunky cuts of meat, but way too sweet, even with the regular version. Highly suggest just sticking with the regular unless you're really curious about the pineapple or snow crust, which really just adds a layer of sugar. My mom spotted their sachima and quickly snatched one up. They sell a small selection of Southern Chinese and Hong Kong baked goods and pastries, but don't expect the variety of a Chinese bakery. Prices are a bit steep, and I don't know if it varies by location since this location is in a higher-cost area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if I'm craving a good char siu bao - most Chinese bakeries do them well, just a matter of finding them. Most people who came in when we were there seem to buy them in boxes so either they're a hit at parties/events or some households really love them.

Highly recommended! - turnip, fish ball, rice roll: 3 in one bowl. Portion is enough to share - scallion chicken: It was recommended to me also. OK, I'm finally ready to give my review!…read more I moved to Little Neck earlier this year and have been coming to Marathon Cafe pretty often. I was ready to give it 5 stars after my first few visits, but I wanted to try as many dishes as possible before rushing a review. After several visits, I'd confidently give it 4.5 stars. Here's everything I've tried and what I'd recommend: Beef Macaroni with Egg: A million times YES!!! Believe the hype because it's every bit as good as everyone says! It's the ultimate comfort food. The cellentani pasta is an elite choice, cooked perfectly al dente and coated in a sweet, thick, tangy tomato sauce that's flavorful without being overly acidic. This is an absolute must order! Creamed Corn with Fried Fish: Don't knock it until you try it! The creamed corn is thick, smooth, and naturally sweet, while the fish is perfectly crispy without being overcooked. It sounds like an unusual combination, but somehow it works incredibly well together. Tom Yum Seafood Noodle Soup: The broth is tangy, slightly sweet, and very comforting. I personally would've liked it a bit spicier, but it was still delicious. It also comes with large shrimps and mussels. Rice Rolls with Fish Balls & Turnip: A Cantonese staple done right! The rice rolls are soft and bouncy, served with the perfect balance of peanut sauce and hoisin. The turnip is tender, and everything comes together really well. Bolo Yau (Pineapple Bun with Butter): The pineapple bun is warm, fluffy, and flaky. Honestly, it's delicious even on its own. The thick slab of butter melts quickly, which makes it a little too oily... Drinks: The iced Hong Kong milk tea and the red bean ice are classic Cantonese staples. You really can't come here without ordering one. What I wasn't crazy about: Lava French Toast: Too crunchy and slightly burnt. It tasted over caramelized, with just too much going on. Not for me! Thick Egg & Spam Sandwich: Nothing special. It was pretty bland, and honestly, it's something you could easily make at home. Not worth the $7. Scallion Chicken over Rice: I don't really understand the hype for this one... The poached chicken itself was a little bland and could've used a little more salt. The ginger scallion sauce usually makes this dish, but here it did the opposite. The scallions were chopped too thick instead of finely minced, so all I tasted was scallion, nothing else. :/ Fried Pork Chop & Cheese with Curry Sauce: It was just OK. I wasn't a fan of the curry sauce. What I would recommend instead is ordering the fried pork chop on the side with their pepper sauce. I paired them together myself, and it was much better! For now, I've tried everything that was on my list, but I'll definitely keep coming back for my favorites. One thing I really appreciate is how consistent they've been with every visit. The portions are generous for the price, and overall it's a place I'd highly recommend if you're looking for solid Hong Kong style comfort food.

I always order a whole duck, with the whoke duck there's the internal juices and marinade that you can request them to put in a to go container, its great for dipping and gives extra flavor if you need it. The ducks is cooked to perfection, its never overcooked nor raw. The skin is nice and crispy while the meat is tender and juicy. Definitely give the duck a try.

The service was decent, but the food just didn't deliver. At dinner, the salt and pepper pork chops were thin, over-fried, dry, and lacked flavor. The black pepper steak was smothered in sauce, and the beef texture suggested it had been overly tenderized. The BBQ duck was especially disappointing -- it tasted like it had been reheated in the microwave. Overall, the dishes lacked seasoning, depth of flavor, and that smoky wok hei you expect from good Cantonese cooking. Lunch was slightly better, but still inconsistent. The congee itself was good, though the dried squid was so tough it felt like chewing on rubber. The steamed rice rolls with peanut sauce were another letdown; instead of being freshly steamed, the noodles seemed microwaved, making them firm and dry rather than soft and chewy. I also ordered a fish and tofu dish covered in brown sauce, but it was completely bland. I really wanted to like this place, especially after giving it multiple chances, but unfortunately the third time was not the charm.
