This is good for dry camp. The sites are well shaded... the cabins don't look like a $100 per night rental! Glad we chose to camp. They do have bathrooms with 1 shower in each. The tube rentals are a seperate charge from the camping charge. I gave 3 stars due to the cleanliness of the bathrooms, I cleaned them myself once we got here. The porta-pots are atrocious! The staff seem friendly, so that's a plus! read more

She charged every single person in our party regardless of if they had their OWN tubes...that makes no sense!!!Isn't floating the river free???? I guess they're charging each head for parking in their lot. Highway robbery in a sense. Charge a parking fee and keep it moving! I will say they do keep your keys safe while you're on the river. For those of us that DID rent a tube, they are quality tubes with carton at the bottom and they do give you a ride to the entry point. Those guys were nice. The absolute worst customer service ever. We came this past weekend and it took everyone in our group 3 hours to get fully checked in. They had a line of 20 people waiting and did not allow you to even start filling out your waiver forms until you got to the front. I asked the girl at the front if they had clipboards with forms they could pass around to everybody waiting to speed up the process so that way when we got to the front it was all completed. No such process! This is what they do literally all day long. How the hell do they not have a better process in place by now? You don't get to start filling out any forms until you get to the front while there are 20 people waiting behind you in the heat. That was the first part of this nightmare. Then when it was time to get picked up there were not enough buses going back-and-forth between the pick up location and Shanty tubes. It was 97° outside and took us another hour and a half to get picked up. Mind you the bus that picked us up was not even from Shanty. It ended up being a Tube Haus bus that was nice enough to take us back. A huge fight almost broke out on their bus in front of a bunch of children because everybody was absolutely tired and exhausted waiting and hour and a half in the 97° heat. To top it all off , when I got back I went up to report that there were not enough buses running, and the rude fat girl at the front desk took zero responsibility said that it's not her problem. I told her I understand she may not feel like it's her problem but I was at least letting her know so she could let her manager know. She disrespectfully replied that it ain't her manager's problem either. I had a few people that had never floated the Guadalupe river before in my group and their first experience was completely ruined because of this. This was one of my first times tubing in the area and I loved it! The staff were really sweet and upbeat. They treated everyone equally and the shuttle driver was very easy to talk to! He remembered all of us and would ask if we were going again! Overall a great experience and would totally recommend! Also the price is not bad at all. read more

The management is horrible there. Forget it if you have anyone under 5 years old with you. They make it extremely stressful by not allowing children to ride on the bus even though you have your own tube. The lady at the front who checks people in is the absolute rudest.Shes hard on the eyes to have that bad of an attitude. She's on some power trip. Go find another job if you're that unhappy. Not only was she rude to our group of 30, we heard her being rude to everyone else she was checking in. Even people on the bus back were talking about her. Don't get me started on after the river while you're waiting for the bus to take you back (across the street). We waited an hour for a bus and we still never got on one. The next door company (tube haus) gave us a ride back. All of the time standing in the sun plus people have been drinking for hours on the river, caused so many arguments and fights between everyone fighting over a seat in the bus. We've floated the river so many times with other companies and have never experienced this before. This is the first and last time any of us will float with Chanty. You would think on a holiday wknd they would have the buses run more. We let the lady up front know they should've had more busses pick people up and she said it wasn't her problem, even though we paid for that service. Save your money and either go with another company or just enter the river on your own (free). If you have your own tube, you don't need a company. Just catch an uber or have a friend pick you up. We went to Shanty Tubes to tube the Guadalupe River, and had a great time. You probably aren't reading this without knowing all about said River, but if by some weird circumstance you don't know what it is, it is a cold (54F) river composed of water released from the very bottom of the dam (thus the temp), which is great for cooling off on hot days. Shanty provides a good experience, with a tube designated for your cooler, strong tubes that held up to the large number of rocks we fools got stuck on, and if you want to buy it there, ice and beer, though you can bring your own. And of course, shuttle service. What I really didn't enjoy, and so the 2 stars, is the way community is just crapped on here. In fairness it isn't just Shanty Tubes but they're definitely a big part of the problem. When we got out of our tubes, we noticed a ton of beer cans at the bottom of the river, many the very brand Shanty sells. The sun was going down so we planned to come back the next day to do our part and cleanup the river. And we got.. derision. We were told we'd have to pay full price just to park there, even though we were there to clean, frankly, their customers' mess. We got a line about how some anonymous boss wouldn't allow it, and we were even asked why we'd clean the river for free. Ultimately we still cleaned the river, after finding a kinder convenience store owner who let us park. We pulled about 200 cans out of the river. Now again this isn't entirely Shanty's fault. All over the river, people have bought up the shoreline so they can post angry signs telling you not to exit your tube onto their property. There are signs admonishing people who enjoy the river and some surrounding communities have banned cans outright in retaliation. ... But that makes it all the more incumbent on Shanty Tubes to get their shit together and start acting right. Encourage people to clean the river, heck offer them something for improving the very river they profit off of. Because this attitude is how you get another ban passed, and then everyone loses, including Shanty's precious revenues. read more

They let you float from when they open until 8pm with no extra fee. Parking is free too. There is a slight walk from the exit to the entry. First time, when water is low, lots of rocks so be careful. Staff super nice! Will be back when water is up. read more

Staff yelled at us, got in our face, clapped at us, then charged us $20/person since we didn't float with them. The old Latino lady needs to leave. There is one sign hidden at the front with the pricing. We went to the river and came back and she aggressively pursued us back to our truck and said we needed to pay. We agreed and went to pay and she once again aggressively pursued us saying we needed to pay after we had already agreed. She called the sheriff on us, and one of her employees pulled a KNIFE on us and continuously insulted us as we were there. This lady is a horrible employee and I would NEVER. We stayed at Mystic Quarry and the Shanty shuttle bus took us there and back, nice enough to drop us off at our site on the way back. Our driver was really cool and informative. Everyone was really nice and helpful. We had a tube malfunction but life happens it could have been our own or any other company and had the same problem. Haven't ever had a bad experience here, though it for the tubes i can only say it would be nice to have a cup holder in them. What was a great adventure which turned a bit saddening since i lost my phone in the river, didn't dwell on it, but when we finished and stopped an the end, gave a description of the phone someone with in the hour called and reported they had my phone. Went here for a 6 hour float at the end of June with a couple of friends. The facility was a bit ran down. The parking lot was large and overall accommodating. They did have a men and women's restroom, but certainly nothing clean about them. The most disappointing thing about this particular tubing spot, was that they charge you the same price regardless of whether you use their tubes or your own. We had seen many other places which offered discounts for those tubing with their own tube. Anyway, have it 3 stars because the staff was nice. Will likely go elsewhere next time though. read more

Shanty Tubes - The Guadalupe River with shanty tubes - Rafting/Kayaking Near Me - Canyon Lake, Texas

The experience itself was fun but unfortunately the 2 items I describe in more detail below really ruined the entire experience for me and my group. 1) Our group of 10 made a reservation that included transportation from our hotel in downtown Austin. The van that picked us up was a completely joke - it was old, with torn seats, and NO AIR CONDITIONING! Yes, people - they picked us up and drove us back to our hotel (an hour EACH way) at the end of June, in a van with NO A/C! There were 11 people packed in this van and several of my friends came close to vomiting from the heat. I just can't believe that a business would charge for such awful transportation accommodations when the temperature was 105 the day of our trip. We actually had a different driver on the way back to the hotel because the first one had to go home from heat exhaustion! So be forewarned if you pay for the additional transportation... 2) The website does not provide enough information to adequately prepare you for the trip. This was my first time tubing in Texas so I assumed (as the website says) - the float would be about 3.5 to 4 hours long. Our ride was nearly SIX hours long! Had we known this we would have packed snacks and more water because there is NOTHING along the river to get if you run out. They also do not warn you that the water is extremely low in several places so you will likely need to get out to push yourself/friends along. Beware if you do because the bottom is very rocky and slippery. Several of my friends got hurt/bruises from slipping on the rocks. I realize 'mother nature' is not the fault or responsibility of this business but if would be helpful if their website provided adequate warnings or even an FAQ section so first timers are adequately prepared. read more

Owners son is completely out of control. Pushed a police officer because a pregnant woman accidentally got out at the wrong stop. The police officer was extremely nice and helpful but the owner son was going insane getting in this poor woman's face and out of control. Someone needs to help this lost child. He was so out of control the officer almost arrested him because of his behavior. To make matters worse, the mom (owner of the establishment) then came up yelling at the cop. Explains the behavior, learned from his own parent. The poor woman even offered to pay for them to take her back and he was just so out of control that he wasn't even listening. The city shouldn't stand for the disgusting behavior that was shown to one of their own officers. Hopefully he gets the anger management he so badly needs and learns how to treat women, especially pregnant women. read more

I wish I could give negative stars. Please go somewhere else there are many other tubing spots around. Where do I begin... they were RUDE. We went in a group and paid $140+ for some raggedy looking tubes. They had rope tying down a piece of hard plastic in the center...ghetto engineering... we decided to get them anyways since we were already there. The girl charges my card as my husband fills out the waiver. A second after swiping my the girl said there is no shuttles for the next 30 minutes because right the thunder. Fine, my family, including my four year old waited in the car. We returned 30 minutes later and were told it was going to be an hour and a half now. We had to drive back to Dallas. We asked for a refund and were told we can take an I-O-U. An IOU would have been worthless because we hardly don't drive into this town. This was our first river experience and probably my last. We asked for a manager. The owner a lady and a man came out. They were worse. Most incompetent people I have met. They brought out the waiver my husband filled and smugly showed us where it said no refunds. I just wish they would have warned us that the shuttles stop working if there is thunder before swiping my card. So that was it we lost $140+, went home with sad kids, took a 3+ hour drive there and a 3+ hour drive back. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE!!! read more

Parking Lot Party: ( This is a long review but worth the read) July 7th: I made an online reservation with Shanty Tubes and was prompted to wait 24hrs for a return phone call. July 10th: I called Shanty Tubes because I had not been called back. They told me the manager that takes ALL reservations was "on vacation". They would call me in 24hrs July 12th: I call again and I get the same response. July 14th: I call again... and again receive the same response. July 15th: I am finally able to make a reservation with Shanty Tubes someone who addressed themselves as the manager. July 22nd 1pm: I arrive to check in for my camping spot. Unfortunately the manager has no idea who I was, and also has no camping reservation for me. We go back and forth as I swear to her I have made a reservation and even show her the receipt of payment. She then calls someone and decides that they miraculously have a spot available. July 22nd 2pm: We are directed to Shanty Tubes 2 and shown a campsite that I can only describe as a dumpster parking lot. We were expected to camp between 3 large buses and within 2 feet of the unkempt and nasty bathrooms. (In fact, after looking around I realize that the entire camping site is in a large parking lot with maybe 3 trees. There was no privacy, only 2 bathrooms/port - a - potties, and a lot of sun.) After refusing this location we were directed to another location... also in the middle of the parking lot... also with no shade. Again I refused. July 22nd 3pm: After the Shanty Tubes employee spent roughly and hour on the phone with the manager we were finally allowed to camp under 1/2 of a tree. Shanty Tubes camping is unorganized, not well managed, and not well kept up with. The entire campground is a dusty parking lot with a few trees. The toilets smelled as if they hadn't been exchange or cleaned the entirety of the summer. The poor employees had no idea how to run a campground and were given no direction by the camp managers. I wish I could say I was the only one that day having problems but I was not. My group and I will not be returning and I encourage others to do the same. read more

This place just absolutely blows. We went in and parked, were not shown to any parking and apparently there are "signs everywhere" (not). We went to the river for a few minutes and upon returning to our vehicle, an old Hispanic lady came came at us yelling and screaming about us not having wrist bands and demanded we pay $20/person. We complied, a member of our party went to pay and this lady continued to berate us. After being verbally assaulted for so long, another member of our group had enough and basically told her to shut her pie hole. Apparently her boyfriend felt "threatened" (so he says) he pulled a knife and asked our associate if he "wanted to get cut". Then being the big man he was, drew a line in the dirt. Of course when we crossed the line and asked him to do it, he cowered down and went behind his girlfriend. They called the Sheriff or "911" according to them. The Sheriff arrived and we told him we payed and he sent us on our way. If the Sheriff wasn't in their back pocket, this punk should have been should have been charged with making terroristic threats. Won't be going back to this place. read more

STAY AWAY!!!! Unless you want to be tricked out of your money. My group got cheated out of over $100. They waited to swipe our card and then then us that the shuffle is not taking people cause of the thunder. No warning or anything. When we returned after the 30 minutes they asked us to wait, they said it may be another hour or hour and a half. When we asked for our refund because the kids were getting fuzzy they said there are no refunds. They said because one of the group members signed our waiver and the waiver stated "no refunds" they weren't gonna give us anything back. They were no help. We ended up leaving. I know there was a sign when we looked at the janky looking tubes. The tubes had plastic pieces manually ties with rope. They didn't look nice or safe at all. DO NOT GO HERE. Check out all the places around. Whitewater Sport and even River Sports were nicer and even warned their guests that ther e maybe be a chance that the rain stops the shuttles. I appreciated the heads up. Unlike this place shanty that waited to take our money to tell us that the shuttles weren't gonna take us up because of thunder. read more

Absolutely the most disrespectful staff I've ever encountered. We had parked in the back parking lot behind the two businesses. Just thought it was a normal parking lot, our first trip here ever. Nobody monitoring the lot at all. Walked up and was told it was 1.5 hr wait for tubes so we simply went next door and was quickly served tubes and onto the River we went. Upon returning a lady yelled to us to get our key, we simply had said we had our keys? We were confused. A Hispanic lady rudely ran up to our group yelling we need to pay 20$ a person immediately (five people) or she was calling the cops and we would be arrested. We were so confused on what was going on. Two people out of our group went up to the counter to see what was happening why we were being told to pay. The staff member at the counter was so rude, clapping her hands in our faces demanding payment. While the other lady was on the phone with someone yelling it was the cops. We ended up paying the 100$ to avoid their threats of arrests. Simply there was no need. We would have gladly been fine paying a decent parking price had we known this parking lot was only for them. However we didn't see any signs stating and when we asked to see a policy they refused. So unless you want to pay 100$ to park for 3 hours and be treated with disrespect. First off, the line is horribly inefficient. Prepare to sweat in line with strangers as the overworked cashiers take their sweet time explaining every last detail to the each and every customer. I appreciate thoroughness but maybe just put it on a sign for us to read? Your reward for enduring the long line is a scorching black tube, complete with metal protrusions to scratch up your washboard abs. Once you hop on your sweet ride, the river doesn't move at all. We were in sight of this same bridge for the first two hours and the short walk back to the car afterwards confirmed exactly how far we did not move. We shan't return. read more

What they didn't tell us was that we would have to walk half of the river, there would be no signs posted where we were to get out, and that they don't shuttle you back!!!
