The previous dentist, Dr. Dan was always amazing with my kids. Well, it seems he no longer works there so we saw Dr. Tran instead. My kids, who never have had any cavity issues, suddenly had a a few??? Mind you, i brought one of my sons a couple of months before this appt to check on some back tooth discoloration which Dr. Dan confirmed to be just a side effect of an iron vitamin he was taking and assured me he had no cavities. But i trusted her. I brought in my kids for fillings with laughing gas. It did not go well at all. First, we were double booked, so we were kept waiting for quite a while. Then i was given paperwork to sign- i looked through it and saw them pre-charge me a behavioral fee?? My kids have never had any behavior issues at the dentist (up until this appt, anyway) and was totally unreasonable to see that on there. I told the front desk and she took it off. But if i just quickly signed it without reading, like I'm sure many busy mothers do, they would have taken money out of my pocket for a problem that never even happened. Then when it was time for the fillings, the techs and Dr did nothing to inform my kids of what they were doing and why, and honestly were quite rude to them. I was shocked. Isn't this supposed to be a children's practice? Shouldn't that come with care, patience, and some guidance for the small kids who have never had a filling before? It was safe to say at this point that my kids were scared and didn't understand why the laughing gas was making them feel the way they felt. I tried to explain to them and calm them since the staff wasn't doing a single thing about it, but they were placed in separate rooms to have their appt at the same exact time (wasn't supposed to happen this way, but due to the double booking, it did), and going back and forth to be with each one to calm them was impossible. The dentist tried for maybe a minute or two on each one to start the fillings and gave up on both of them and said you need to come again, and if it doesn't go well again next time then you still need to pay for the appts in full. I was shocked at how little care and attention she gave my kids. No kindness, no understanding. I don't think she ever even spoke to them directly. Just rude and seemed like a money grab. We made new appts and then left. But then my intuition was screaming that something is off. I took my kids to a different pediatric dentist and guess what? Only one small cavity for my oldest son. No cavities for my younger one. We went from 5 cavities at the other practice, to one small one. Dr. Tran was dishonest with us and it was so disappointing. They were going to put my kids through totally unnecessary dental work. I could not believe someone would do that to small children. We had the cavity filled at the new practice by the way, and not a single tear or complaint from my son because the staff there were patient, understanding, and actually spoke to him about what they were doing. I will be going there from now on and will never be returning to Pleasant Pediatric Dentistry.

After recently visiting other dental offices, I realized that cleanings should not be that uncomfortable. Though I do have a lot of respect for dental hygienists--their job of cleaning people's mouths is incredibly difficult, and I know I couldn't do this job myself. One time, they upsold me a very expensive mouthwash that cost over $50. I bought it because my cleanings were always very painful, and they claimed it would help by preventing buildup. But it didn't make any difference--it was a complete waste of money. I was a patient here for about five years, and another issue was that over time it became clear that communication was consistently lacking. The staff never directly explained their concerns with me. Good and timely communication helps prevent much bigger issues down the line, but unfortunately, that standard wasn't met here. Additionally, I never even knew who the actual dentist was--his name or even if it was the same person each time I visited. There was also a billing or coding error during one of my visits. Despite it being the office's responsibility to resolve and they actually promised to do so, I had to resolve the issue myself despite myself not being on the expert on the field. If you live in the area, I recommend exploring or at least looking into other options, such as Gentle Dental in Palm Valley or a private dental practice. These alternatives generally offer better continuity of care, lower staff turnover, and honest communication in difficult situations. And the dental cleaning to my honest experience is much less painful.

For example, I needed to get a root canal for over a year that I needed over the last year until now most recently he said that the time is running out and I need to get it done. Companies that because of personal finances did not do and so I waited. He told me that time is running out and If I want to save the tooth we need to get it taken care of. Every six months I drive over 40 minutes one way to this location and it's well worth it. I am greatful for dentist of North Glendale being part of this community. I told the front office that we recently had a terrible experience at a chain dentist. The dental assistant talked with me about it and asked me if there was anything specific they could do for my son to make him feel more comfortable and less nervous. The dentist came in, showed me x-rays and exactly what was going on, then discussed the plan of action. There was no hustle or hurrying us out the door. This plan might just be a hidden gem and I'm grateful I found them. Even the bathrooms were clean, smelled great, and roomy for a mom with three kiddos tagging along.
