My 5 year old son got a great hair cut from a very nice stylist. She's sweet and she did the work done nicely and fast. If the following thing I am about to write here didn't happen, I will for sure give this place 5 stars. When we were about to finish, the stylist and I were still looking and discussing about my boy's final hair look, the movie Frozen that my boy was watching all the sudden stopped and the disk got ejected. Another stylist took the disk away without notifying us first, and just popped it out and brought it to her own customer. Of course my boy was shocked and asked what happened ( he was very calm, and asked nicely). This stylist didn't respond to him, not didn't respond to me, or our stylist, but seemed like she's talking to someone in the air "He's finishing anyway". Excuse me?! Did I hear it wrong? Who are you talking to? You responded to a child like this while your job is working with little children? Our stylist tried to talk to this woman, but her response was still short and cold " he is done. he doesn't need to watch anymore." of course we are leaving, and any other children can watch it after we are done. But at least, a quick notice before you stop the movie, especially when we were just about to be done, and my child is still watching! She just sounded rude and ridiculous, and had this attitude that I can't believe it happens in this great kids' cut place. I pat my boy's head and said "it's ok,. It is kind of shock, but we are leaving and the little girl next to you wants to watch it." My boy was fine, but oh my, this rude stylist heard it and again talked to the air referred us as the third party-"he's leaving anyway"! Sorry, you kept referred my son as "he", while you impolitely cut his movie off without a notification and even an apology. This is just NOT right. When I was paying, this stylist was talking very loudly like yelling to our stylist who was cleaning our chair. I could't hear clearly, but it was about she taking away the movie. Our stylist is way too nice to let this entitled rude woman to recognize that how inappropriate she was acting. The mom of the little girl gave me a sorry smile, she knew that her stylist was acting out of place. "It will be nice if she just tells me first. I won't say no. " On the way home, my boy said. Couple of months prior, we took our little guy for a haircut someplace else " Snips for Pips", also child friendly and the haircut was meticulous. He looked absolutely gorgeous as if they were coiffing him for a photo shoot. Unfortunately, Sharkey's did not even come close. The woman completely butchered his hair, leaving him with what looked like bald patches and a style that can best be described as a mushroom cut. Sharkeys was also way more expensive and overpriced at what I believe was $50 for an awful job. Avoid at all costs. read more

Our son has had long curly hair, and at age 2+ he's only had 2 true haircuts beyond light evening loose hairs out at home. The stylist asked me about cutting it short several times and I said no. I clarified probably 5 times I wanted only to take the hair out of his eyes and clean up around his ears. She asked me a few times if I was sure. She then proceeded to cut all his long hair and curls off. I was in absolute shock. When I asked her what she was doing she told me he needed a "real haircut" and to relax because hair grows back. This place is the biggest scam out there! Took my daughter for her first haircut! I explained several times that we just wanted to get a trim to shorten my daughters hair and have it not falling in her eyes. Gigi was great, she cut my 21 month old hair and did a fantastic job. For my 6 year old, I said 3-4 on the sides and long on the top. She basically gave him a uneven crew cut. Didn't need to come here for this. She also nicked the bottom of his ears. Next time will stick with Cozy Cuts. read more

I have had my son's haircut butchered too many times here. Today I was very clear as to what we wanted and instead the stylist just cut off all his hair. Despite my clear requests to keep it long, she cut it all off and did a typical short haircut. She then tried to buzz it until I made her stop. As I was telling her it was too short, she told me she was doing it correctly and I should go sit down somewhere else. It was incredibly rude. I'll never go back here. My son's hair looks so bad. This could've been a 5 star review because the haircut was great and the staff was really nice but when I was there, my winter jacket got ripped from an exposed metal edge around their hair cutting area. The jacket is unwearable now, but more than that, It is a hazard, especially to kids. They put tape on it but this needs to be fixed immediately by the owner. I work around the area therefore I decide to inquire about their service for my daughters first hair cut. This weekend we decided to stop by and our experience was a great one. I scheduled my appointment online through their IG page. I was able to choose the person I wanted which was Elsa. When we arrived, Elsa was attending another client, we were ahead of our time. Our daughter was sleeping therefore it was no problem. When she arrived Elsa was ready to see her, my daughter was crying and wasn't too happy but with the help of bubbles and Paw patrol movie she was able to calm down. We left with a certificate of her first hair cut, a manicure which was just too cute to handle, balloon and a item of her choice from a gift box. I would totally recommend this business. read more

My daughters come in primarily for bang trims which sounds easy peasy but apparently it is not. Sometimes Sharkey's does a great job, sometimes my daughter's bang's look like Moe's from the Three Stooges. Way too short. I even told the stylist while she was cutting her hair, that this was not what I asked for. I wanted her bangs BELOW her brows. She cut them a quarter of an inch above her brows. Her bangs were WAY too short and uneven. The stylist just looked at me. The prices have also gone up exponentially. read more

I had to say something first. Then, when we sat with our stylist, she was very rude and not trusting how we usually cut my son's hair. She then proceeds to tell me she cuts this style all the time. Needless to say, the cut was not what I asked for. Then on to my younger son. He's little so had a problem sitting back on the way in the chair. I tried to keep telling him to sit back but at one point the stylist forcibly pulled his little shoulders back against the chair. Completely unacceptable to manhandle a child. Again, didn't get the cut I asked for. I even showed her photos of each kid and how I like their hair. She barely looked at them and simply said "I know". read more

I took my son here for his first haircut (which came out perfect and exactly how I wanted it) and my daughter here because her usual salon was closed and I wanted to take pictures of them for their birthday and my daughter is taking graduation pictures in school tomorrow I wanted her hair flat iron straighten so that her graduation cap would fit her. My son and daughter are both bi-racial, my son has smooth big bouncy curls, my daughter has more afro-textured hair. When I booked their appointment I asked if they knew how to do her kind of hair and was told they did, her hair was done beautifully as was my sons however, by the time we walked to the train about 6 blocks away my daughter hair frizzed up so badly and honestly I was very upset, I was in the salon for 2 hrs and couldn't go back because I couldn't be late for their next appointment at the portrait studio. I ended up buying some anti-frizz and argan oil and pulled my daughter hair into a tight ponytail and added hair ties in between to keep her hair together. I don't know if it was that the stylist didn't put enough product in her hair or if the salon just doesn't carry the right products for her hair. I would take them back for a hair cut, the stylist was wonderful and my kids loved the place, but I would not take my daughter back for flat iron straightening. She can't even answer a simple question without snapping back an answer. Management should look into replacing her if they want to keep longtime customers. Been going there for more than a year. Never had a bad experience before, but today was TERRIBLE. My 7yr old wanted a Mohawk. The stylist was new to the salon. Our usual stylist walked by to grab a hairdryer, I asked her her opinion as she knows us best. She just started talking(and she was happy to), when the front desk lady raised her voice and told the stylist NO, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. She told the stylist she could not talk to me, it is against company policy. Both stylists were taken aback and the front desk lady was super rude in front of all the clients. When I paid I told her what had happened. She accepted no blame and proved me to customer wrong and stylists too. What happened after was even worse. The front desk lady embarked on raising her voice with the two stylists for all to hear, while customers were waiting. Customers did not know what to do. After 5min the customer was gesturing to her stylist that she was waiting. We left the salon with as very bad customer experience. read more

But there was one employee ... with long hair I believe her name is Kristen. She was very rude and treated two of the other employees from what me and another parent saw, poorly, she was demanding in a rude way. And constantly complaining to her employees about what they were doing. My visit there was one to remember because it was my sons first hair cut and mayra was so great, but being present and hearing Kristen's attitude and negativity would make some parents iffy about bringing there children back. read more

Elsa is fantastic and only works on weekends. She really knew how to handle our VERY unhappy son. I would definitely recommend her, and would be giving her 5 stars if this review was about her. The reason, however, I give this place 1 star is because I, along with many other parents I have spoken to about this, believe that the owner is truly a greedy person who takes advantage of kids and their parents alike. The fact that I have to pay more for my child's haircut than my own is a big pill to swallow, but fine. I'll do whatever makes him most comfortable in the situation. BUT - to charge $8.99 for a toy (mashem) that costs $3.99 (more than double the price) is just pure GREED. Shame on you! read more

The haircut was just ok. The customer service was deplorable. First off, the bitchy queen (hereafter, BQ) at the front desk needs. to. go. I walked in, my first time to the salon, carrying my son, a bit bewildered, and BQ thrust up a hand, and shouted, "HellOOO??!" as if I were holding up the line, and as if I am too stupid to see where the reception counter sits. Totally uncalled for. (The salon was empty, which, after reading my review, is understandable). Then, I said my name, and what time my appointment was, and BQ shrugged me off, with a surly, snotty expression. He didn't tell me where to wait, whether I should wait, or whether my stylist would be with me, any other boilerplate expressions of courtesy or helpfulness that are expected of receptionists. I was, simply put, bothering him with my presence. Then, the haircut. The stylist seemed afraid to deal with my crying child, and didn't really cut enough off. My kid's bangs were cut straight across, a feat I could have easily achieved myself, saving myself $36. After the disappointing haircut, I went to pay. BQ was, predictably, bitchy during our brief transaction, thrusting my credit card back at me, and slamming a pen down on the counter, wordlessly. (Really, there's no need to treat people poorly. I don't deserve that.) Then, I asked him whether I could leave my cash tip since the stylist was no longer on the floor. "Is my stylist still here?" I asked, politely. He stared at me with contempt, and wagged his head side to side at me as though we were at the club and I cut in line. Is it really difficult to imagine why I was still in the salon, cash in my hand, at the counter? "She's in back!" he sneered. I merely wanted to leave a cash tip with the stylist. BQ didn't get off his backside to go find the stylist. I can't believe his attitude. Well, I can, sadly, because I've held a number of menial jobs in the past, but I don't believe it's ethical to treat people like crap. So avoid this place at all costs. Also, it was fairly dirty and in disrepair inside.. hair everywhere, not dusted. not cleaned. BQ probably can't bother himself to use a rag around every once in awhile.. he's too busy sitting on it. Great haircuts for my son and daughter. Friendly staff and stylists were super patient, especially with my son who is a bit of a squirmer.

My little girls went here. I'm the daddy, so I'm no expert. Hair and fashion are mom's department. But I do know when I'm being ripped off. On this occasion (their 3d or 4th) visit, I actually paid attention and saw how they quietly tack on an extra $20 simply for blow dying after the haircut is done. But to make matters worse, they screwed up one of the girl's hair by cutting it unevenly. Even my untrained eye could spot the error - too late, unfortunately. So tomorrow we're off to some other place to have Sharky's mistake fixed. The gist is this - the place has little competition, they're busy and they have no incentive to be courteous or professional. I've been going to Sharkey's for a few years now and have to agree with some of the reviews that the cuts are inconsistent. The place is not managed professionally - twice they called me to come in early and when I showed up someone else was getting ready to have a cut. When I asked why they called me to come, they acted like it was no big deal and the wait would not be long. They failed to realize they asked me to come!! This is a business, and sadly not managed professionally. I'm giving it 3 stars b/c there are a few nice ladies who work there like Life - who has been kind and professional. read more
