Alexis did my up-do for my wedding and she did a phenomenal job. Booking the appointment was easy, and I went by the salon a week before the wedding to show her my ideas of the style I had in mind. She was very receptive. The day of the wedding, she opened the salon two hours before standard opening time to allow me to make it in time for my ceremony!! I was very impressed and grateful. She then proceeded to make a beautiful creation with a braid ending in a bun, and she perfectly captured the relaxed and nature-inspired look I was shooting for. The best hair cut in New Haven can only be found from Divvie. I went to so many places before I found him sophomore year. He can be trusted, and he has more skills and talent than anyone I know. I'm always nervous my hair won't lay nicely after I wash it the next day, but hte hair cuts leave it with bounce and are so well designed for each individual's face. I've told all of my friends to go there, and they also agree. The interior of this place is also beautiful and relaxing. You won't be sorry if you go to Divvie. Before finding Alexis I had tried at least five other salons/barber shops in the New Haven area and none came close to the standard of excellence that is routine at Phil's Hair & Spa. Every haircut that I have gotten from Alexis over the past several years has been absolutely perfect!! Divy is my hairdresser who runs Phil's Hair and Spa and he is amazing! I have been going to him since I was a teenager and he has been able to work with my hair type and some skin issues I have and has made my hair the best attribute that I have! The salon is clean, beautiful and the prices are more than doable. I would follow Divy to the ends of the earth if I had to. It's always tough finding a new barber when you move into a new city. I had a hard time finding someone who knew how to cut my hair, and my haircuts varied from mediocre to bad my first two years in New Haven. After my first haircut from Divy, I received several compliments from friends, and I have only entrusted my hair to Divy ever since. I went in again today, and Erin fixed my hair (free of charge) and it looks absolutely amazing. The roots are blended perfectly, and my root touch up looks so perfect and it is blended seamlessly. She also gave me a free blow out, which she absolutely did not need to, but she did and my hair just looks so great! I am more than happy with it. I also did the conditioning treatment, which revitalized my dead hair. Overall, I would highly recommend Salon J and especially Erin. I have always loved her haircuts, and I'm now happy that I can confidently endorse her hair dyeing and root touch ups as well. I used to go to New York to get my hair done, and my only regret is that I didn't go to Erin earlier. I'll miss her and amazing hair cutting/dyeing!

They do, and asked when I thought I might be in. I told them and the man who answered said I shouldn't have a problem getting in for a haircut at that time. I did have to wait about 30 minutes when I arrived; definitely not "no problem getting in". I had the time to spare, but had to keep feeding the meter my car was parked at out on Broadway. One stylist left for the day while I was waiting and didn't clean up their workstation, instead just saying to their coworkers, "Sorry I'm leaving a mess." Hmmmm . . . My haircut was fine. I didn't need anything drastic, and the stylist did a good job. I was a little put off that no prices were posted, and that when I went to pay, my stylist said they would give me $5 off their regular price for a woman's haircut. BTW, this directly contradicts another Yelper's report that they charge you on length of hair, instead of whether you're male or female. It irked me that they acted like they were doing me some huge favor by saving me $5, when I would really have preferred consistent pricing posted so I could determine whether I was really getting a bargain. So, haircut was fine, but this place definitely has some professionalism issues. I might return but will probably try and find a place that I like better instead.
