This is actually down home cooking. Everything gets flavorful. I always feel like I'm at Grandma's house when I come visit here. I went there for weekend breakfast for the first time. The foods were something you remember old school diner. I went there with my boyfriend and his mom. We all loved the foods. I got vegetable omelet, Oj and coffee. My boyfriend had fried eggs( they were so perfect!!!) and corn beef. Price was so reasonable. I always get biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage which they have together as a menu item. I usually have to order something off of the sides. Small place, nothing fancy, but in my quest for a perfectly done club sandwich, it's right up there! I am a big fan of club sandwiches but I am super fussy about them being done "right" and that means 3 slices of white bread, secured with toothpicks, cut in 4 pieces with crispy bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomato and mayo. They can have ham or turkey and American cheese and that's it. Non of this aioli, foccacia guacamole no sense! This club made me happy! Anyway, service was good. BUYER BEWARE This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. A simple breakfast took nearly 30 minutes to reach our table, even though the restaurant was almost empty. What made it worse was watching another "Not So Brown"couple, who arrived after us get their food in about five minutes. The difference in how we were treated was impossible to ignore. When our plates finally showed up, the food was warm instead of hot and tasted mediocre at best. For the price, it should have been much better. On top of that, the staff managed to turn what should have been a $25 meal into a $35 bill by breaking items apart and charging à la carte instead of honoring the meal pricing. It felt deceptive. When the cashier asked how our meal was, I told her honestly. She didn't acknowledge a single thing I said. No apology, no concern, no attempt to make it right but just rang us out like my feedback didn't matter at all. Between the slow service, the clear difference in how we were treated compared to other guests, the lukewarm food, and the questionable billing, this place left a bad taste in every sense. Sharon's Homestle Cooking is located in a shopping plaza in Pine Castle, Florida, so parking should not really be too much of a challenge. As I said before, the menu offers basic, comfort food type items, but the food is executed relatively well and the prices were pretty much what you would expect. I was here for breakfast and went with an omelet. It was pretty good and I would definitely recommend it. I have had better, but taking into consideration that it is convenient to the residents of Pine Castle, Florida and are keeping it straightforward and while the food is not overly challenging, they do it pretty good. Sometimes you are in the mood for just solid home style cooking (but too lazy to get in the kitchen yourself). Sharon's is the place to go when you want that homemade vibe. I'm really glad I stayed open minded and gave this spot another try. I saw a new staff member being trained at the register this morning, so being a bit short staffed definitely could have been a factor in some of the minor customer service glitches I experienced on my last visit. (And someone did check if I was being helped while the trainee and mentor were off in the kitchen grabbing my order : ). Today was breakfast: veggie omelette with home fries, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. (Yes, this was for two people). First of all, the price point for all that food isn't that far off from what I would fork out at the window of a drive through, so definitely a lot of bang for your buck. The veggie omelette features both fresh spinach and mushrooms, which are two ingredients I HATE having frozen or jarred. Admittedly, the home fries don't look exciting, but they had a nice buttery and seasoned flavor. Pancakes were big and fluffy, and served with plenty of syrup. I typically see 2, maybe 3 pieces of bacon as a serving, but it was a solid 4 pieces. We love coming here. Most of our visits are Saturday & Sunday. On occasion we come here during the week for lunch after a doctor appointment. It's pretty quiet, but on Saturdays or Sundays it can get a little bit louder with larger groups. Great waitresses. Both Sharon & her hubby, and every waitress recognizes us when we arrive. Some of the waitresses know us by name even though we've only been coming here on a regular basis for a little over a year. Anyway..... onto the review. You arrive & find your own table & one of the friendly waitresses will be with you momentarily. Everyone makes sure you are well taken care of. The food is always delicious. It's nothing fancy, just simple homemade diner food. Good quality food. I have a tender stomach & truly appreciate their egg salad sandwiches made to your order style. If you only want mayo mixed on the smashed eggs, then that's what you get. But if you want to add relish, onion, tomato, etc. then that's what you can add-in the mix. Plain bread or toasted. Best burgers in the area. BTW, we used to go to Dixie Belle just down the road quite often, but they lost all of our business because we went twice in a row (once moderately busy & the other fairly quiet), and we were completely ignored after being seated & given menus. If you are looking for a meal your grandma would make, this is your spot. I had a breakfast sandwich with ham and my husband had the country fried steak. I used to live off Michigan Avenue, so my family and I used to eat at Sharon's a lot, back when it was located directly on Orange Avenue. We now have an elderly friend who lives in the area, so we decided to take her here today. Overall we were pleased with our meals and felt the prices were reasonable. I ordered the fried chicken and got mashed potatoes and corn for my sides. Portions were big! Along with a side, the dinner plate comes with a choice of bread and half a chicken. The chicken was very tender and much tastier than fried chicken I've had elsewhere in recent memory. Our friend had the same meal and enjoyed it. My dad ordered a breakfast sandwich and said it was delicious. It also wasn't messy to eat because the ingredients were so neatly assembled. I should also note that several of the things we ordered could have come out very greasy, yet nothing was greasy at all. The service was friendly and efficient. The sign listing the specials and daily sides was really shiny, making it hard to read from where we were seated. But our server was happy to answer any questions we had about the menu, so that wasn't a big deal. I just like to plan ahead lol. The only negative part of our experience was that we were given two checks, instead of one. I think our server could have just asked us, instead of assuming that we were paying separately. It's been many years since I've been here probably about over five or six. They used to be down the road on Orange avenue closer to Sand lake until there was a fire. They eventually opened back up down the road once they found a new spot near Orange avenue where it splits near Oakridge in a shopping plaza. This location has booths which is nice. My grandpa wanted to go out but to a place nearby that had some good home cooking. Needless to say there aren't many places nearby with some comfort/home cooking/soul food, especially affordable. We went for lunch & of course went with sweet tea. Lets just say it was sweet just how I like it, some of the best I have had. On to our meals, oh the options were endless not to mention they had a lot of specials on their boards. We both had our eye on the Mom's Chopped Steak, so of course I had to go with something different. I ended up going with the pork chops since I don't eat them often. So grandpa got the Mom's Chopped Steak with mashed potatoes, black eyed peas & cornbread. Then he added on a coleslaw & I'm picky when it comes to coleslaw but I liked it. Next time I'm definitely getting what he got, those black eyed peas were the best seasoned black eyed peas I have ever had. Then there's my meal. The Pork Chops that were grilled & seasoned perfectly. Mashed potatoes with gravy on the side but gravy was good so I covered them potatoes with that gravy. I had to try them collard greens which were good all they needed was a little pepper sauce. I almost went with the roll but the waitress convinced me to get the cornbread & was so happy I did, it was so moist & sweet. Towards the end it got kind of busy but at the end our waitress got us sweet teas to go & talked to us. She has been at Sharon's for 25 years, which is crazy but she said she wouldn't want it any other way. I will definitely be back. A diner that's been on the area for quite some time. We've been throughout the years, and my parent really enjoy it here! My most recent visit was to meet them there and spend time with them and to let them visit with the munchkin. The staff is very friendly and were super helpful in getting a highchair and moving my car seat to a back area to keep our area free of clutter. I had the hash and eggs. I got the eggs scrambled with american cheese added in. It comes with a side of hash browns, grits, or potatoes, and also comes with either toast or a biscuit. Lots of food for very inexpensive prices. The hash was tasty and the eggs were made as ordered. I really like the biscuit and asked for a side of honey (which they have in single use containers if you want some). The parking lot is smaller, but it's pretty easy to find a decent spot close by. I recommend you not park against the building front as it can be challenging to see to back out. Overall: A A great local diner with good food and friendly staff. Very cheap prices! This was my first visit to Sharon's and it was extremely pleasant. We walked in and were invited to sit wherever we liked. Immediately our server came and dropped off menus and took our drink orders. We placed our order shortly after. During our very short wait for our food I observed the decor. It was cute inside; nothing fancy but some nice touches like the plants in mason jars hung on the walls. Our food arrived looking hot and delicious. My northern bean soup was very good. I also had the fried chicken sandwich which was very tender, juicy, and tasty. My boyfriend loved the meatloaf. It had a unique flavor which was different than most meatloaf, but very good. We shared some creamy macaroni and cheese. The best part of the visit was the service. Our server, as well as every other staff member we encountered, was pleasant, helpful, and super polite. We stopped in for breakfast. We let them know that we had about 1hr and 10 minutes to eat. The server said no problem. 1 hr later, we still didn't have our breakfast. We told them to pack it to go. It was $41 and when we got home, the biscuits and sausage gravy had no sausage in it. It was like a saw mill gravy with ZERO flavor. The sausage biscuit/sandwich was a biscuit with that same gravy on it and a solo sausage patty in another container. No sandwich. The other 2 breakfast orders were fine (pancakes and Country Fried Steak). When we shared our frustrations/concerns all we heard was, "Sorry about that. The server is new and we get lots of complaints about her. That will be $41". That was a $41 dollar lesson. read more
