This was the first time I have ever been in a Barber Shop, and I could see why my boyfriend was so adamant about coming here. Gabe & EJ are the guys he books appointments with. They know what they're doing, they do it with style, are friendly and consistent. While I was in there, I also noticed that many of them had younger clients, and they were so good with them. Have to update my review to 3 stars. Visited once they reopened from the pandemic in June. My barber was barely wearing a mask, it was a handkerchief that drooped down maybe 3" from his nose. He also reached out to shake my hand with no gloves. I didn't feel very safe or comfortable there. I ended up going to a shop in Berkeley after that where I felt much more safe. They took your temp and had you use sanitizer before being allowed in. It's a shame because the Sharp barbers do give a great cut and they are less than 1/4 mile from my place. Edit: after restrictions and the such are lifted and we are somewhat back to normal, I will still recommend Sharp as they really do have great barbers there. read more

Started growing a beard for the first time Jan 2017 after 3 months of growth I began checking YouTube videos on how to best shape and trim by beard. After staring in the mirror for 30 minutes with a pair of scissors and an electric trimmer I realized I have no idea what I'm doing. I started searching Yelp for a legit barber shop. That's when I found Sharp Barber shop. I made an appointment and went to see Sheldon. The shop itself is "sharp". Old school chairs and decor. The service is first class. Best of all my beard got proper treatment. Sheldon recommended a style for the look I wanted. I wouldn't consider letting anyone else touch my beard. Sheldon and EJ are great guys. After three times getting my haircut here I decided it was time for a review. I want to say that the place is amazing! If you are looking for a barbershop with people that really listens to you, this is the place. Barbers are super friendly, you can see their expertise, place is super clean, the vibe of a garage is so cool. They offer you drinks at no cost, and hey great beer from the place just in front of them. Parking is not an issue. I want to highlight Nico's work, he is one of the best barbers I have ever had. I came without an specific idea of what I wanted and he just listened to me and did such a fantastic job. The owner is super cool, super welcoming. And I have to say I felt so welcomed in this place, as part of lgbtq community in other barbers I just feel odd and not really welcome, but here that is not the case. Convenient location right off the freeway next to BART, really clean and nice shop with an old school vibe (with old school tunes as well!). Angelo is my guy, and is the best barber I've ever had. This is my second time taking my son for a hair cut at Sharp in Lafayette . My son, who is 2, is totally comfortable and loves getting his hair cut by Gabe. The shop is very relaxing and hip...if that matters to you. Pretty sure they offer whiskey to the patrons, just not the toddler ones. My barber didn't listen, wasn't polite (unless you think being on your cell phone is OK while cutting someone's hair is OK). Really disappointed. I read the YELP reviews before so now I think many are either their good friends who haven't had a cut or shave...like a lady saying "if you are lucky enough to get an appt" PLEASE we are not stupid! I did a walk-in (no appointment) for my first visit. EJ was the barber that helped me out. He is very professional and personable. Before even working on my hair, he asked what I wanted (which is standard). I told him, and before getting the clippers out and chopping away, he took the extra time to REALLY UNDERSTAND exactly how I wanted it. He was very thorough with what he was going to do, and even gave suggestions, which I appreciated and took. He made sure to set the right expectations for my cut. He even set the expectations for future cuts, if I planned to come back (which I plan on doing!) For me, what stood out the most was that EJ took the extra time to really understand my hair and what I wanted. Best consultation I've had. The owner is a long time Bay Area local and Barber to the SF Giants. He is self made and I can't think of one negative comment, nor have I ever heard a bad thing about him from anyone.
