Dimaggio's is indeed the real deal for a quality barber shop. I'm generally not too picky about my haircuts, but I tend to pay attention to the small details and I had nothing short of a perfect experience for a walk in appointment. Quick and easy during the early afternoon, though note Cash/Check only. Premises is also kept pretty pristine. I didn't catch my barber's name, but she was extraordinarily proficient and thorough. Typically I always have at least a few sharp tugs due to my thick hair or light nicks or scratches with a razor from places I've gone to before. Here? Smooth as silk and done in a jiffy; literally almost could not tell I had a blade shaving on the back. Also despite not having a wash, I was left remarkably clean by the end and without any irritation. Literally a whole new level of experience for me. Another great haircut for my son! Also, the CAL receiver was waiting to get his cut done and he was chatting it up with my 3yo daughter - it was the cutest thing ever (yay, go bears!!!!). My boyfriend is super picky with his haircuts but he's always left Dimaggio's happy with his hair. He has type 2B hair and regularly sees Sunny for his hair cuts. He gets a low taper/low fade and Sunny is always able to create the right silhouette and fade for him. He pays $30 for each haircut. We've never waited more than 15 minutes for him to be seated. Very old-school barbershop vibes, which is a nice contrast with the more modern atmosphere of downtown Walnut Creek. Cash only and walk-ins. I'd recommend getting here earlier in the day to avoid long waits. I've seen people come in 30 min to 60 min before closing and have to risk not being able to be seen because the shop is so busy. read more

Today i received and paid for the worst haircut ever. The barber simply was not interested in listening to me when I clearly asked for a low fade , down to 1/2 guard around the edges. The barber, an older Asian guy in the back of the shop, took the clippers with no guard , straight up the back of my head and up on both sides. Definitely not the low fade I asked him for. Moving to a new town and having to find a new barber is stressful. The pressure and stress goes up by at least double when you need a haircut for an important job interview. I walked into Dimaggio's Barber Shop around 2pm on a Tuesday and was immediately greeted and promptly seated. No wait! I asked for a high skin fade to 0 and a part on my left side. My barber took a moment to double check to see if it would be a good fit for me (it is) and proceeded to cut my hair. He had a feather touch. The razors they use are not super loud. The whole cut was over in 10-15 minutes. I am not a chatty person during haircuts and I almost dozed off if it wasn't for my phone ringing to confirm my interview. One of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. Bonus points for checking in with me and getting right the first time. $35 for the cut. Everyone was warm and friendly. Upon leaving my previous review, the business owner promptly contacted me. He was genuine and sincere in seeking what the problems were, then immediately went into solution mode. He offered to refund the cost of my cut (which I refused as he is in business to make money), however, I did take him up on making it right and letting him cut my hair on my next trip, free of charge (I left him a tip). Sure enough, the cut is top notch. During the cut, he explained the pricing scale, which made sense. I did let him know that all I wanted was a military style cut, not too high on the sides, beginning with a zero guard. I've been to DiMaggio's 2 or 3 times and have always been impressed with my haircut. It sort of has that old neighborhood barbershop feel in a great location in downtown Walnut Creek. Every barber I've had here has given me a great cut. This place accepts walk ins and while a little busy during COVID times, I was able to get in pretty easily for my latest cut. They are certainly reasonably priced unlike some of the fancy barbershops or "men's salons" who charge you extra because they offer you a beer. DiMaggio's is easy, friendly, and reasonably priced. Even though I don't live in Walnut Creek anymore, I'd gladly make the trip to get my hair cut here! read more

These guys are definitely classic-styled trained barbers, distinctive from of course the uprising amount of urban-style barbershops. I've attended many other barbers who have that urban atmosphere but I was willing to give this place a shot. One thing I'll tell you is that at least if you walk in (no appointments) during the morning hours, especially when they open, you can expect quick service. When I entered in, I was immediately given welcomed into Cliff's chair and he's a pretty cool barber, too! Showed him exactly what I was going far and he did the rest. The place doesn't get too loud - no music nor much conversation - but maybe that's because of the morning mood haha Within about 20/25 minutes my haircut was already complete and Cliff made me look sharp. Although he didn't get as close as I usually get my hair, I knew that he cared that my time was worthy as I had plans right afterwards. I was visiting from out of town and needed a beard trim, so I gave this place a call. The gentleman on the phone said they handle beards and no appointment was needed. I rolled over and took a seat. Classic, old-school (non-hipster) barbershop feel. I waited no more than ten minutes for a chair, which was staffed by an older gentleman, the one with whom I had spoken on the telephone, and who I believe is the owner. I have a long, full beard in which I have invested months of growth, so confidence in a new barber does not come easily. One misstep and I can be set back many moons, as well as not having the look I want. Confidence was high, however, as he asked the right questions and went to work. I could not have been happier with the trim. He kept my length, but shaped and cleaned my beard up nicely. I probably will not be back, since I live in Southern California, but I highly recommend DiMaggio's to anyone in the area. read more

Sal's shop is an institution and part of the charm of Walnut Creek. It's a neighborhood shop, more like something out of Mad Men versus the newer "urban" shops. Wes is my go-to guy, but any of the barbers here will give you a good haircut. Communicate what you want so there are no surprises, as you would at any barber shop. It's cash only, and they don't take appointments. They don't do shaves. I'm laughing at the comment saying it's overpriced - they are at $23 for a haircut. Several years ago, I was sitting in a restaurant near a couple whose eyes were locked in a romantic gaze. As she reached over to stroke his perfectly coiffed locks, he suddenly recoiled and shouted: "I Told You Before, Don't Touch the Hair!" And so it goes with my Teenage son, whose hair before today looked like an unkempt lawn and he was proud of it. When I was his age, I would lose the haircut argument soon after the first lock touched my ear. I haven't gone that far with my son, although I'm not quite at my ex-wife's sense of Portlandia. Her opinion is that she wonders it's appropriate to exert any influence over something as personal (and inconsequential) as hairstyle. As with other situations involving me and the X, Gayle stepped in as the tie breaker. She offered the Kid a $15 bribe if he got a haircut. He immediately accepted. I haven't quite settled on a family Barber for this part of the East Bay. So this morning, I did a Yelp search and decided to try DiMaggio's Barber Shop this time around. We walked into a room of folks that filled every clipping or waiting chair. However, the Barber in Front immediately welcomed us and put us at ease by telling us the wait wouldn't be long. He was right. I immediate felt at home as visions of the old Central Barber Shop in Estherville Iowa filled by brain. I also recognized a work colleague that has come here for many years and is still with the same Barber. And as I waited, I noticed a wide community of folks who were patiently waiting for their Barber. When my son's turn came up, Ryan turned out to be our Barber. I thought he did a great job with the cut itself and listening to what my son thought that he wanted. It took awhile to get through his mop, but once Ryan was done, my son looked like a new man. In fact my first reaction when things were finished was - Who Are You? He was very pleased too and a little gel-based shaping at the end icing on the cake. They welcome you the moment you step through the door and they can always make time for you. Today in particular I experienced one of the best haircuts in my 28 years. I have to shout out Van. Once he was done asking questions and mapping it out, he jumped in and was done in less than 30 minutes. The day before I had to head off for my wedding, my dad and I stopped by to get a haircut and our beards trimmed. My dad got his beard cut by Sal, who in my opinion, is one of the more skilled barbers I've seen in my time. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the name of the god who cut and styled my hair, but he was a man who I am proud to refer to as "the guy I will always visit to cut my hair." He knew exactly how to cut it, even though I gave him a vague idea and a picture off my phone. He made my beard into a thing of art at the perfect length, which is hard to do as I am obscenely picky with that. I may not know his name, but this fellow has sleeves of tattoos, a set of glasses and one of the grandest beards I have ever laid eyes upon. I recommend DiMaggio's to every guy I know now. read more

I've been customer from Dimaggio's for over a 3 years, and always give them $10.00 tip for a $30 cut. Today I stopped by to cut my hair and unfortunately 2 barbers that I use to cut my hair weren't there, and there were only 2 barbers, one of them kind of refuse to cut my hair pointing out this lady (I never saw her over there), saying cut with her, I wasn't sure if I could but as I wanted to get my hair cut I decided to give her a try. I COULDN'T REALIZE THAT WILLL BE A NIGHTMARE!! She asked me how I like my her cut, I told her short and tempered on both sides and back and higher on top. And I said : PLEASE MAKE IT BEAUTIFUL. She asked me the number of the machine as if I was the barber or if I supposed to know (she should be the expert not me !!), I said: the other lady looks like use number 2 on the sides, but I don't know much, she insist to make the same question, but I AM NOT THE SPECIALIST ! I DON'T KNOW !!! Anyway, she ended up deciding! And instead of start to cut my hair on the sides with a higher number machine to see how it goes, she start LITERALLY SHAVING MAY HAIR ON THE TOP, and when I saw there was nothing that could be done!!
