We stopped at Shaugnessy's after my friends' wedding for some afterparty drinks and laughs. Like the neighboring Eleven Waters, Shaugnessy's is located on the ground floor of the Marriott in downtown Syracuse. While the former is a restaurant with a bar attached, this establishment has more of a sports bar feel. Shaugnessy's is fairly new - the bar is quite large and comes full circle so there are a lot of stools to sit and drink. Additionally, there are some long tables and a separate area with table service; we were seated at one of the long tables just off the bar. The place was packed - with the hotel hosting four weddings this weekend and six wedding parties staying at the hotel, you can imagine how crowded it was on a Saturday night. I can't really review on the drinks because I just had water (the thirst was real). We did, however, order some junk food which I can comment on. The nachos were really good - lots of cheese, beans and shredded chicken mmmm. We also had homemade style potato chips with four different dipping sauces. Its the kind of food that just looks okay on a normal day but after a long day of ceremonies, photos, and dancing you're just shoving it down your throat like there's no tomorrow. Overall a solid sports-esque bar. They were a little understaffed at the bar and it took me a good amount of time just to get the water, but for hanging out and socializing it was a good time. read more

Just awful. I was there with my partner and her two kids. We were in the area for RetroGameCon and just wanted to grab some food and get back to the convention. I don't know what the hell happened, but first they didn't have the Shepherds' Pie we ordered. We then ordered a replacement and didn't our food for almost an hour and a half. Now, I've worked in restaurants and I know that problems happen from time to time. However, the food was NOT worth what we paid for it. The Mac & Cheese and Burger were both fine. However, the wings were tiny with barely any meat on them. I don't mind small wings, but when you're basically charging $2 a wing when you get a small order, the expectation is that they're going to be filling. I also got the turkey club. There was like a half pound of turkey on it, which was excessive but nice, but there were only two tiny pieces of bacon on it. This is a $15-ish sandwich. I get more bacon from the $7 turkey clubs that I order from Tim Horton's. If you're in the area, there seem to be a lot of really great places to eat. We want to Modern Malt which is nearby for breakfast and were really impressed with the service and quality of the food. Go somewhere like there instead. read more

The food is pretty good here. Would like more variety on the menu, but always worth looking at what specials are available. Trivia night every Wednesday is fun with friends. They have a variety of seating options; booths, high tops and bar seating. Good drink variety and options, with beers on tap and unique cocktails. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable and tend to be quick, but it can get a little busy on trivia nights. The smothered steak is surprisingly tasty and always flavourful! And the restaurant location is convenient access but can be tough to find parking depending on the time of day. read more

Probably a bit better than average in fairness. Good bar food and lots of tvs and the bar staff was great. Attached to Hotel Syracuse, if your staying there. It's then convenient to watch sports and grab a bite. Didn't eat but the foods I saw looked good and people seemed to like them. It's a big room, shades of the old days when it was a pretty hip club. If you're looking for an "authentic" Irish establishment of any kind, please go to Ireland and stop whining about how restaurants in America do business. I usually go to restaurants for the food, so I could really care less if this establishment was marketed as "Shaughnessy's Irish Pub," "Röhm's Beer Hall," or "Wille Ray's Genuine Soul Food." It's a hotel sports bar with good food, that's all you need to know. The floor is the Nat's NBA title-winning court and there are lots of TVs. Shaughnessy's has a huge menu you can see in Yelp photos or on the restaurant's website. Our server did everything right and she wasn't even from Ireland. I'll bet the back-of-house staff probably isn't "authentic" but they put out some excellent work as well. Our party ordered a salad, several Beef on Weck sandwiches and the signature "Shaughnessy" Reuben variant, along with Buffalo dip and Nachos appetizers. My dining companions had been here a few times before and have pronounced the Weck as excellent. (They're not from Buffalo, so if you are, you'll probably think it doesn't compare to Charlie's.) The salad wasn't reviewed well, but if you order salad at a sports bar, you deserve anything you get. The wing dip and the nachos didn't get wiped out either, so they're a whole lot of food or maybe my party knew the better stuff would follow. The menu claims that Syracuse.com has heaped praise on the Shaughnessy sandwich and I believe them. It's great. Parking might be a problem if you don't work downtown. In Syracuse by "problem" we mean you may have to walk a block or actually pay money or even both. I'm really happy to have this place as a dining option downtown. read more

Really nice establishment conveniently located downtown. I was in town for business and the late hours were really helpful. I was able to grab a drink in the evening and get lunch on St. Patrick's day. The pretzel bites w/queso and wings were delish. Restaurant was busy but customer service was good. I was disappointed they were out of shepards pie so early in the day on the holiday but overall, good experience. I would go back again if in the area. read more

Classy, clean and straight forward. As far as hotel restaurants go, this is grade A! I would expect nothing less at a Marriott! Maybe a little friendlier interaction from bar staff? Sounds strange, but when your stuck at the hotel overnight for work, a bit more smile makes it much better. I will surely return next week when work has me stranded here once again. read more

Mixed reviews here.... was staying at hotel for business event. Went to Shaughnessy's 2 nights in a row for food and drinks. Drinks were just ok but staff was really nice and attentive in general. Manager not much so. At closing time was very rude and was basically yelling that it was time to go. Food was ok as well. Poutine and onion soup both actually very tasty. Dubliner dip was gross. Meat was dry and tasteless and tough. Seemed old. Not a bad place to eat and drink if you're at the hotel. I would not recommend rushing here otherwise. read more

I will start this as I always do by saying that I don't give out five stars unless I am really blown away. I have stopped to eat and for happy hour a few times. Lunches are pretty good. It's great for a group of people meeting up after work. Probably a good place to catch a Cuse game or to pregame for a Cuse game. The decor is very modern sport pub. No dark woods all light. The floor is very cool. It is made from the basketball court that the Syracuse Nationals played on. They were one of the original NBA teams. They moved from Syracuse to become the Philadelphia 76er's. This fact alone is worth making the stop. The beer selection is good and the pub menu is a good size. The pretzel bites are really good. The spinach and artichoke dip not so good. They do a nice job on burgers and the salads are better than most. It's all in all a fun place great for drinks, snacks and hanging out with a group of friends for a game. Lunch is worth it if you have time for a sit down lunch. I will be stopping back again and again because of the location and those pretzel bites. read more

Finally made it to Shaughnessy's during the recent Congress Beer release/extravaganza by Willow Rock Brewery. Been looking forward to coming here as I absolutely love the Hotel Syracuse aka Downtown Marriott. This restaurant is a perfect addition to the hotel and the surrounding area. It's a local sports lovers dream with the championship hardwood floor from the War Memorial and the abundance of Syracuse University memorabilia adorning the walls. Dozens of TVs with a variety of sporting events to keep the interest of nearly anyone who visits. Huge street level windows allow plenty of time and opportunity for people watching on the adjacent streets. The hotel/pub is in close proximity to the War Memorial- making it an ideal starting or ending spot for all Syracuse Crunch hockey games. Shaughnessy's also plays a role in Saturday tailgating for home SU football games. They close off the street in front of the hotel and offer food trucks, beverages, games, and then a shuttle to and from the Dome. Not a bad deal! On the recent night we visited, the service was somewhat mixed- even though the restaurant was only half full. After taking our drink and food orders- our waitress disappeared for nearly 25 minutes before our food arrived. Then she never came back to check on us until the check was ready. Mind you, the food was pretty good. I had the Rueben sandwich and others in my group had the Pub Nachos-all washed down with the aforementioned Congress Beer. I'm sure we will be back soon to Shaughnessy's to give her another try as she does have much to offer. read more

They have a very good selection of beer. I had the Shrimp Quesadilla it was ok. It was very cheesy and could have used more shrimp. The cheese over powered the shrimp. The Tater Tots were excellent. The Shaughnessy was excellent! Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss, Marie Rose sauce on Mario's Bakery Marble Rye. Mac & Cheese - four cheeses, bacon, breadcrumbs, garlic bread. Very good. Philly Cheese Steak - sautéed onions and mushrooms, cheddar sauce. Very good. Guinness Stout, Saranac Octoberfest and wine. The service was very good. read more

After we were sat by the hostess, 20 minutes had passed and we were never even acknowledged for a drink order, or even "I'll be with you in a minute." Not very good with time management. We left without service. Tried again another day and time, as we were a guest at the hotel, again we had our drink order but no food order was taken again for 35 mins! I should start this review by saying we came to the pub after the kitchen was getting ready to close for the regular menu because we were bowling at the USBC championship. They offer a late night menu that is self serve (order with the bartender) as the wait staff gets off at 11. We ordered a bunch of late night menu offerings. They have several flavors of wings. I enjoyed the flavor of the garlic buffalo. The nachos are HUGE. Can definitely taste the beer cheese they use for the sauce. The pub seems like a happening place for post wedding parties at the attached hotel. Decent but not amazing. Get the nachos! read more

We ordered takeout while we were staying at the Marriott upstairs during Memorial Weekend. My partner ordered the Nashville sandwich and received REALLY BAD FOOD POISONING. The area is very sketchy around this establishment. The place was empty except for 2 people at the bar but no other restaurant was open for food. The salad I ordered was worst than a week old pre-made from a grocery store and the chicken was the consistency of tofu. The peanut butter pie was mush served in muffin cups. The poutine was soggy fries with coagulated cheese and next to no gravy. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. LISTERIA IS A DANGEROUS THING TO SERVE YOUR CUSTOMERS. read more

Ate here while staying at the hotel the other week. The server who gave me my pick up order was really nice but the food I got as terrible. I ordered chicken tenders, poutine and a Cesar salad, all things I figured you couldn't really mess up. The chicken tenders tasted like they had been reheated about 7 times that day, the poutine was okay, I actually liked the fries they used but the gravy tasted like straight up black pepper. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Romain lettuce was good but the dressing itself tasted like it may have been bad. read more
