This is only the second restaurant I have found in the entire state of Florida that offers a doner kebab sandwich -- one of the all-time great street foods popularized in Germany by immigrants from Turkey. Baba's Kebab is a new place that has a few tables for dining in. You can order a doner kebab "German way" or "your way." I did the latter and chose pickled cabbage, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, hummus and garlic sauce with chicken as my choice of protein. There was an orange chili sauce I didn't choose that will necessitate a return visit because it looked so good. In addition to doners you can get wraps, gyros and bowls. Fries and a drink are included with the meal. The owner was friendly and enthusiastic to meet people who seek out this hard-to-find fare.

We were there for lunch. I ordered a schnitzel in pita bread. The meal includes a can soda. The watermelon soda was a good drink. The fresh bake pita bread and the chicken schnitzel were excellent. I had red cabbage, tomato slice, cucumber, white garlic sauce in the sandwich. The crunchy, juicy, soft fresh bread, turned into a such tasty combination. The meat portion was generous. I took the rice instead of fry. The rice was also very good. They were perfect texture and so rich in cardamom fragrance. I am a fan! The services were attentive. The sitting area was hot around noon time. I guess the AC wasn't full blown. Good German-style doners with outstanding fries. Not quite what I was hoping for but good. Would have liked a slab of feta and pepperoncini. The owner seems like a nice guy. Somewhat clean place but needs air conditioning.

I lived in Germany for a while and döners are amazing sober and drinking; each restaurant has a slightly different version. Baba's could definitely be found in downtown Kaiserslautern or Wiesbaden! Delicious, fresh ingredients, FILLING, and a good value for what you get. The man constructing the meal asked which way I wanted it and was pleased with my choice. He was pleasant to talk to while I watched him make three sammiches with fries. Yum!

Good stuff. If you like gyros and schwarmas, you like doners. Order meat doner (or chicken) German style with hot. My recommendation. I'd come back.

Great Döner and fresh fries. Got the chicken döner that comes with fries and a drink. Everything was fresh and tasted phenomenal. If you like spicy, get the hot sauce on your kebab. I will definitely be back for the beef döner. You won't regret. Owner is a great man and I enjoyed speaking some German again. Very authentic!!!

Amazing little place.. took me back to Germany and the Doner spots that would be out on the streets. Quality food, excellent service, chill and relaxed place. I will definitely return. The owners are very friendly and listen to their customers.

The veal was incredibly tender, and the gravy was packed with flavor. It was a satisfying entrée that came with two sides. For my sides, I chose the pierogies and spätzle. The pierogies were honestly my favorite part of the meal. They were fluffy, cheesy, and generously filled. So delicious. I could have eaten a whole plate of just those. The spätzle was soft and well prepared, but compared to everything else, I found it a little boring. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a lot of character. I loved browsing the selection of German snacks, candy, and other imported items available for purchase. It added to the overall experience and made the place feel unique. While I'm not that familiar with German food, I thought this was a pretty good restaurant. Overall, I found German cuisine a little more muted than what I'm personally used to, but I still really enjoyed the meal and the experience. I'd be interested in trying more of the menu.

I had such high hopes for this place. :( The selection is very limited and perhaps I missed something (entirely possible), but I did not see a price list for the deli case. We did find a unique assortment of other German products- some we haven't seen in many years. The restaurant portion was quite busy and the customers looked happy. We were flooded with nostalgia and left in hopes of dining in on a less-busy day. I ordered two meats, including the German bologna. During the drive home, my family and I noticed a terrible odor-- the kind where we started pointing fingers at one another. We never suspected that the package from the deli was the source. When we opened it at home, a nauseatingly funky, ammonia-type smell came from the German bologna. While the liverwurst smelled okay, I could not trust it after the bologna and decided against keeping it. Wasted time and money. Dang! The staff is super nice and that was truly a plus. However, I doubt we will be back. My family is very bummed over this.

Upon walking in, the impression is very authentic German. We were seated promptly although waitress thought we were with a party of 6 and it was just my husband & I. Seated us and we ordered drinks and shortly thereafter we ordered the food. It arrived quickly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience did not meet our expectations. The potato pancakes lacked flavor and were quite bland. The Wiener schnitzel was especially disappointing -- the veal was very difficult to cut, and the breading fell off almost immediately, causing the dish to fall apart. It did not feel like an authentic German preparation. The rouladen was just ok, lacking flavor also. We were quite surprised, particularly since the owner is from Berlin. It seemed clear that the owner is not the chef or directly involved in the kitchen. My husband is from Germany so we know what authentic German food is. On a positive note, the music was authentic and added a nice touch to the atmosphere, which we did enjoy.

Since we've relocated to Florida, we have been on the lookout for a place like Old Castle and we will definitely be back. I traveled extensively through Europe for work, and the jaeger schnitzel I had in Germany and Austria was so great, and I am pleased to say that Old Castle's food compares very well to those great restaurants. We were seated immediately upon entering the restaurant, and our server, who was working by herself, hustled the whole evening, but did so with a smile on her face and she recommended some items, and she made the evening very enjoyable. My wife had the wiener schnitzel, and I had the jaeger, and the first thing we can say is the portions are HUGE, just like in Europe. I am a big eater, but I was unable to finish my meal, even though it tasted excellent. The pork was breaded perfectly, crispy outside, moist inside, and the mushroom gravy was great. The spaetzle was delicious as well, and unlike many restaurants, you get plenty of it to enjoy with your main dish. The wiener schnitzel was also excellent, although my wife says she will ask form a side of gravy to dip it in next time. We started off with a medium pretzel, which was delicious. We look forward to coming back again soon, and we're bringing six of our neighbors, who have never tried German food before, but are anxious to try it after hearing our praise for Old Castle.

As far as authentic German preperation goes, this place has it down. Yet, today's experience left me a bit...wanting. I wanted the dish I ordered to be served, but instead of Schnitzel Champignon, I was presented with Jagerschnitzel. While I enjoy the Jager finish, it wasn't the creamier, sour cream based with mushroom treatment my mouth was set for. As it took much longer to receive our food order than in past visits, (it was a busy afternoon at the Cafe), so a tad longer wait was to be expected. And, as I did not wish to wait another 20 min. for a refired order, I settled for the dish that was presented. We had driven 40+ mins. from Port Orange to celebrate my daughter's b-day, per her request, and were happy to do so. Still, some nagging details...incorrect order, smaller portions of Schnitz and spatzele (except for the red cabbage), and higher prices left the experience to be less than desired. I know it's a tough industry to be sure..but having had better experiences in the past here, I was hoping it would match those times, instead of setting new less than thrilling standards.
