The best hummus in Houston along with a very friendly staff, a super clean restaurant and very affordable prices make this my favorite middle eastern place in town (along with Mary'z). I have tried their Chicken and Beef Shawarma several times and also invited my friends over to this restaurant. Never got disappointed. The shawarma is so juicy and tasty. You get to choose two sides as well. I wish they also served french fries. It would be really nice to add it as side. My kids love french fries with shawarma. I used to love this place and eat here at least once a week. New owners have raised prices, lowered portions, and ruined The old Shawarma King for me. If you want to do well in Houston, take care of your customers. I don't need your new skimpy meal options dictated to me like I'm stupid to expect my regular, good service. If you're out clubbing and you need something to eat this is probably ok place. Docking 1 star for being disorganized. Docking another star for the lamb kabobs. They started out great then the other pieces were what, beef, pork, mystery meat? I've never had lamb I've had to chew and chew and chew. I couldn't masticate it. I had to discretely spit it out. Have great shawarma, and the mix grill platter is so huge and tasty. Would recommend this place for the kabobs, shawarma and grills. They have a beautiful closed patio space outside which will give you a good feeling while having food. read more

Unfortunately, Shawarma King was a huge disappointment. Ordered take-out and food wasn't ready when I got there on time and somehow all food that should have been hot was very cold. Seasoning was just okay.. I have had better everywhere else I've gone. Maybe on Sundays they serve leftovers or maybe their quality is basically reheated fast food as it didn't taste cooked to order/fresh. Also, we didn't receive any pita for the hummus and eggplant dips.. customer service was subpar.. parking lot small. I don't see how anyone would recommend this place. read more

Definitely the worst shawarma I've had. I had the beef one, first most the meat was not good quality meat. It was not cooked properly and had few bites which were really chewy. The sauce inside was tasted chalky and left nasty taste, I don't think it was hummus because it was very runny and my shawarma was falling apart. The potatoes I got were under cooked and tastes really dry. Definitely a miss, not worth trying at all. read more

Last night we ordered delivery around 4:30, and about an hour later the yelp24 customer service called me to say "I'm going to have to cancel your order because the restaurant just called me, and there is no delivery driver". I think I'm addicted to their tabouleh, hummus, falafel & lamb shank!!!! I could eat the tabouleh EVERY DAY!!! I stopped by Thursday night to grab a bite and they had a fresh batch of falafel. standard middle eastern fare from a standard unwelcoming location. i found the beef to be very dry and flavorless, and the falafel were disappointing. i think someone photocopied a piece of pita and gave it to me to dip in my humus. it was not terrible, but i'm not sure where the 4 stars are from. it may get a 2nd shot though. read more

Good shawarma and I love getting the chicken kabob plate as well. You get a big plate with 3 sides. I get the rice, potatoes, and hummus . It's really good and fast . I usually call in a order and it's ready for carry out in 10 minutes. Good nice people working there . Tasty Baklava read more

Terrible shawarma. I've lived in the middle east and in north africa and this was a really bad attempt at a shwarma. let me explain. the pita, toppings etc are great- garlic sauce is good as well. BUT the meat it severely lacking. ordered a chicken shwarma, and instead of slicing it off the large hunk of meat on the grill, he brought some dried up cubes of chicken from the back which were over cooked and dry- perhaps from a day earlier. so with that said, the shwarma was terrible. read more

As much as I frequent this little place...you would think I would have tried more of their dishes, but how can I when I haven't gotten over my love/obsession of their chicken shawarma? It's honestly the best I have tried anywhere. I usually get it with a side of Tabouleh which is usually fresh and never dry unlike their neighbor Fadi's. Sometimes I can't resist their little pastry desserts. I suggest the pistachio Baklava or one of their lady fingers. I'm not a fan of desserts that are overly sweet, so these little pastries add the perfect final touch to my meal. Also, their service is usually very friendly and attentive. read more

I wish there was something positive I could say... Terrible tasting food. Not sure if that thing I ate was supposed to be a gyro or not, but instead of tzatziki they used hummus... Whaaaaa? The shawarma wasn't even a mixture of lamb and beef, it was just beef... Odd flavored beef... We had the daily special as well. Some chick pea mixture with chicken.... It literally tasted like Campbell's chicken noodle soup. The potatoes were mediocre at best. The only thing that was somewhat okay was the dolmas, but they were on the skinny side and served cold (some people like it like that, but it's not my cup of tea. Shawarma King lives up to its name. I love getting the beef or chicken shawarma with a side of tabouleh and hummus. The interior is not as nice as Fadi's, and they dont have as wide of a selection, but Shawarma King wins where it counts. read more

I've been a handful of times and it's a decent middle eastern restaurant in the hillcroft area. I've only tried their chicken shawarma and it's very good. Decent price and very flavorful. The layout is a bit weird but the restaurant is a bit small so they have to. I think they have really good shawarma in the Houston area. I really need to try some other food in their menu. read more

Today was my first time at Shawarma King, and I will definitely be going back. I had a kafta sandwich and a side of falafel. The falafel was pretty good, fresh, but the kafta was foodgasm worthy! Definitely hit the spot, and came with the works: hummus, lettuce, tomato, tahini, pickles and jalapenos. They also have hot deli items for lunch that all looked very good (shawarma, lamb shank, garlic potatoes, different kinds of baklava, etc). Their prices are great and the patio is adorable. I also loved that there was a very diverse clientele eating here, which to me means that the food is so good, everybody likes it. Is the service excellent? No. Do I expect it to be? No. The guy who served me was courteous and as quick as he could possibly be during the busy lunch period. I went here because of the reviews and I am glad I did. The place is small and what most of us would describe as a hole-in-the-wall place but the food was great, reasonably priced and the place is very clean. I had the chicken shawarma and a side order of hummus. The side order of hummus was so large you could share it with 6+ people. The shawarma was good but I still think that phoenicia deli at their old location by the bike shop was better. Was being the operative word.
