I called Sunday before Christmas to place an order for fresh fish, fresh shellfish, and 2 lbs of frozen shrimp. The order was confirmed on Monday. When we got there Christmas eve afternoon, we were told that they couldn't find our order, and "someone gave it away". So here we are ready to make bouillabaisse for dinner, with only a bag of fresh clams. I got to meet Mrs. Rinker who was checking in on the operation. Like many other families, we enjoyed a picnic lunch under a tree overlooking the orchard. The kids loved playing tag in the orchards. This a great family day trip and absolutely the best cider and apple butter I have ever tasted in my life. It's about an hour drive from Northern Virginia, but the apples were amazing - especially the golden delicious and Fuji. We are so fortunate to have such great produce here in VA like the peaches and apples. Its priceless to show your kids that you can pick fruit from the tree when its at the peak flavor. There was only one food/farm vendor (probably because it's February) but she was very friendly & helpful in explaining the history of the neighborhood and had a diverse selection including leafy greens, root vegetables, baked goods, 100% juices, apples, frozen berries, Alaskan salmon, and eggs for which I learned they reuse the cardboard cartons that otherwise would cost 35 cents each! I bought olive bread, pumpkin bread, eggs and a bottle of 100% blackberry juice. Next time I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop by.
