    Collapsed dough, like Swiss cheese

Scalfani's has some of the best bagels in the area, usually. It's a must whenever I come to visit family in the area. So writing this review is tough, especially because my bagel and service when I was there was great. But I live in MD and wanted to bring bagels home. I ordered 3 blueberry and 3 French toast, in addition to a pork roll egg and cheese I ate on the spot. The sandwich was great and the bagel it came on was also great. So I didn't bother to look deeper into the bag for the loose bagels. When I got home that day and got to prepping the bagels for the morning, I found the bagels (from that day) were already stale and the French Toast bagels seemed small and they looked like they were missing dough under the crust (from under-proofing?). This is so out of character for sclafani's but overall I'm very disappointed with the quality of these. Mistakes happen but throwing either stale bagels or a bad batch into my bag is not cool when you, as the business, know that I'm likely not looking at it deeply until I'm home. Honestly, this has me rethinking if I'll ever get bagels to go from here ever again. I'll be happy to update the review in the future when I go again but this is a pretty deserving 1-star, do better.

Sausage egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel

My friend and I are from Virginia Beach and had to come up here for drill. We came here for a quick lunch break. The food was delicious and fresh. I got a sausage egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel. They were super courteous and gave military discount which was a pleasant surprise. The bakery itself was a very local atmosphere with the smell of bagels and coffee and a decent amount of seating. Definitely going to be coming back!

The bagels are chewy yet soft, just the way a New York bagel should be. I got SEC on a French toast bagel un-toasted and it was so good. The subtly sweet and savory combination was perfection. Honestly, the French toast bagel is so scrumptious that I could eat one by itself. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the coffee, but it is a bagel place. I'd say skip the coffee and go straight for the bagels here! There's seating available inside and outside if you want to enjoy your meal there!

Very tasty bagels. Beware that the garlic bagel is very very garlicky, which is probably obvious. Lovely coffee too.

We just wanted…read morea couple of bagels and some coffee, thought it would only take a few minutes but luckily we didn't have any coins smaller than quarters for the parking meter or we would have run out of time waiting. Walked in to the very small space and were told we needed to order online, so we got out our phones and scanned one of the many QR code signs posted on every surface anordered - two bagels, one with cream cheese and the other with butter. He confirmed he received the orders immediately- even before the payment had gone through. That seemed like a good sign. We waited and watched while he made salads and other orders for people who presumably ordered online before us, but didn't come in to pick up while we were there. Eventually he made our bagels, put them in cardboard baskets, covered them with aluminum foil (not sure why we needed that cardboard waste -- would have been happy with my bagel just wrapped in foil), covered them with paper towels, put them each in separate paper bags, and placed them on the counter while calling our names (even though we were the only people in the place and he had confirmed he knew who we were when he received the order). We took the bagels and walked across the street and got our coffees from the cute cat cafe with the friendly staff. Hit the road, and pulled out our bagels in the car. First bite was so bad that I tossed the rest of the bagel back in the bag... it was so crunchy it was more of a thick bagel chip, and shards of bagel stuck between my teeth like splinters. Certainly one-of-a-kind, I've never had another bagel like it. About 10 miles later I was hungry enough to get the bagel out and try again... this time I kneaded it through the aluminum foil a bit to bread it up first. It was still very crunchy and sharp, but there were some softer bits toward the middle. There wasn't much flavor, except where it was drenched in butter (and those bites tasted like butter, which isn't a bad taste I guess). TLDR, if you want bagels in Winchester WV skip this place and go to Sclafani's.

The inside gives an older coffee shop vibe and very family owned. The owner is incredibly kind and recognizes everyone that stops by. They have regular and everything bagels and you can get a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, bacon or sausage. The portion is huge and it's delicious. The everything bagel is full of flavor and super fluffy but also a layer of crisp. I had the pizza bagel both mornings we came and it was phenomenal. I still think about it and can't wait to come back. The portion is perfect and it also comes on an everything bagel. They also have a lox bagel and you can get bagels to go. The inside is darling with a large area in the back. Amazing place!

This time around I brought breakfast and bought my fav Madagascar vanilla latte. An absolute TREAT for me whenever I come to Panera. So-- I rate a good Panera based on if there's readily available parking and whether they have microwaves. This one DOES! Also the staff here -- so sweet. It makes me very sad to see elderly people working :( but, they did make you feel very cared for and homey. If I find myself in Winchester, I always come here. Since I'm from NoVa, I do post up for a couple of hours since I WFH. Open to suggestions for different places to visit whenever I'm visiting Winchester.

When I ordered the Green Goddess Salad, I simply asked to swap the dressing for balsamic vinaigrette. The cashier, clearly annoyed, said "so you don't want the green goddess," which made no sense since that was the salad I was ordering. When I clarified, she dryly said, "the dressing is called green goddess," with zero courtesy or understanding. Then she gave me the large drink cup--forty cents extra--despite my Sip Club only covering the regular size. I didn't bother correcting it. At pickup, when I asked where to leave the pager, the staff member pointed and said coldly, "over there where it says leave pagers." No smile, no basic hospitality. It's unfortunate, because Panera used to feel warm and consistent. Judging by recent reviews, this location has bigger management problems than a salad order. I'll be staying away until that changes.
