It was quite busy in the afternoon but the line moved quickly and we didn't have to wait terribly long for our order either. We'd definitely come back here for the bagels, they were fantastic. Jury is still out on their other offeringa. What we got: Sausage, egg, and cheese on toasted everything bagel with cheddar jalapeno cream cheese - 5* it was perfect and amazing and delicious. Of course it was messy to eat but I didn't mind eating it piecemeal. New Yorker on a toasted everything bagel - 5* my partner loved the sandwich. It was cooked through and warm, had a good distribution of pastrami, sauerkraut, and cheese. Wouldn't mind trying it with a cream cheese added in the future. Pepperoni Roll - 1.5* skip it, it was a big disappointment, especially compared to the bagels. The pepperoni were in long sticks and weren't warm, even after getting the roll toasted. Customer service could use a freshen up. The lady at the register seemed bothered that I was patronizing the restaurant. The bagels are tough and overall an egg and cheese bagel sandwich was lackluster with little to no taste. Staff should keep a better eye on the water dispenser. Scalfani's has some of the best bagels in the area, usually. It's a must whenever I come to visit family in the area. So writing this review is tough, especially because my bagel and service when I was there was great. But I live in MD and wanted to bring bagels home. I ordered 3 blueberry and 3 French toast, in addition to a pork roll egg and cheese I ate on the spot. The sandwich was great and the bagel it came on was also great. So I didn't bother to look deeper into the bag for the loose bagels. When I got home that day and got to prepping the bagels for the morning, I found the bagels (from that day) were already stale and the French Toast bagels seemed small and they looked like they were missing dough under the crust (from under-proofing?). This is so out of character for sclafani's but overall I'm very disappointed with the quality of these. Mistakes happen but throwing either stale bagels or a bad batch into my bag is not cool when you, as the business, know that I'm likely not looking at it deeply until I'm home. Honestly, this has me rethinking if I'll ever get bagels to go from here ever again. I'll be happy to update the review in the future when I go again but this is a pretty deserving 1-star, do better. read more

The bagels are chewy yet soft, just the way a New York bagel should be. I got SEC on a French toast bagel un-toasted and it was so good. The subtly sweet and savory combination was perfection. Honestly, the French toast bagel is so scrumptious that I could eat one by itself. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the coffee, but it is a bagel place. An absolute gem in Winchester. Bagels are perfect, their cream cheese flavors are on point and their portions are generous. Staff is friendly. My only minor complaints- they are often understaffed, they do a good job communicating this when they are (social media, signs) but it does contribute to the wait and I always feel horrible for the staff that is working so hard to keep up. Hours! So odd for a bagel shop to open at 8, I would likely stop in multiple mornings a week if they opened at 6 but the 8 am opening time means I'm a weekend-only customer. read more

I don't know if it's the water or elevation or NY attitude, but there is something noticeable different (and better) about their bagels. So when you are located almost 5 hours away from the Big Apple, but still put "NY" in your name I have to wonder. But my wonder and trepidation was quickly rectified. Now understand this place will not stand out as you pull into the parking lot. Another shop and a row of many. Black and white sign out front, no fancy lighting or loud colors or inflatable creatures to lure you in. But there's a reason for that. When it comes to quality, let your product do the talking. And here the bagels speak loud and clear. You'll catch the aroma as you prepare to enter, but the moment of true nirvana comes when you view the case inside. You begin to read the various flavors and see the cream cheese options and you begin to question, is one bagel really enough? I won't cast my vote toward any one bagel over another, as 1) I have had quite a few and 2) I want you to choose the one(s) that stand out most to you. All I will say is that they are a work of art. If I lived here, I fear they would eventually put a name tag on my regular seat (or maybe that's a hope?). If you are in the area, make time to visit. I enjoy it although I definitely have had better. The cream cheese spreads have many options but are lacking. A good example is the scallion or the veggie which both have very few pieces of either and they're chopped up too large. The coffee is good, although I'm not a fan of the tiny little creamer things. The pepperoni rolls here are very good as is the bread. I did have a sandwich once and it was meh. I'll just stick to my bagel and coffee here. I would really like to see some kind of jalapeño bagel. Visited this bagel shop on July 6 while on our way back home to Richmond. What an amazing find. The bagels were the best I've ever tasted. I brought a half dozen assorted home only wishing I bought a dozen. I can't say enough about the French toast bagel of which I was lucky to even get a bite. We also ordered toasted bagels and cream cheese. The garlic onion bagel with lox was the best. Can't wait to visit again. I am willing to make the 3 hour drive for these bagels. Then asked what was so hard about putting 12 bagels in a bag , another person had to do that after reading the order off what the first person wrote down then stood and watched while doing nothing . Then told that two of the twelve were no longer available. Had to get two more of what I already had. This is about as far from NY bagel as the moon. The bagels were undercooked and had much too much dough. Never will go back. You'll like it if you have no idea what a real bagel is nor how a real bagel store is run.
