I do enjoy many of the bake goods along with fresh breads but today I want to single out a Baker today named ROSE... Who was so kind and helpful and very pleasant to help me that, she needs to know I appreciate her help and her skills. I found a cake that I asked her if possible to write in icing....Happy Birthday Rose.... And she did but also found out that it's her name also. How ironic that she was pipping Rose on that cake... This store is the worst. Start with the employees in the deli, meat, front end , floral and Drive up and go. I think corporate should re-evaluate who they hire especially when dealing with the public. I will never shop in that store again. After 30 years it's time to move on. I can't believe that the Canton Shaws no longer offers any olives (other than the ones in the jar). I asked a clerk and he told me that they have removed the olive/cheese bar. Not a real problem except now there is nowhere in the store to buy real olives. If the food bar was the issue, then why not prepackage pints of olives and sell them in the cheese section. I wondered what the sign "Grand ReOpening" meant, and now I know. Ridiculous! Just went to Shaws in Canton to return an item that was $4.99. Customer Service asked if I had the Penny, which I replied, I don't because I often give them out. I asked if she could cover it for me and without blinking an eye gave me $4.99 in change. When I asked why she couldn't help me out with the penny she just said to me "store policy." I then asked to speak with the manager off to the side and told her the situation and she said I'm sorry sir but that's store policy. I said I have never been treated that way before including going into banks. Even the teller will reach into her own pocket and cover the penny for me. Needless to say Shaws will not be my number one location for shopping in the future! read more

I call this the dirty Shaw's. This place is dark, and run down and just not that clean. They have all the usual groceries you find at Shaw's and I have never had a problem with any food I've purchased here, but it is just not just aesthetically pleasing to shop here. The Shaw's in Dedham is much newer, nicer and cleaner. I only come here if I desperately need something in a hurry. Also, the parking lot can get a little cray, especially on weekends and holidays. The one redeeming feature here is that there is a Santander Bank located inside the Shaw's that has extended evening and weekend hours. read more

I live very close by here and over the past year I shop regularly, spending $250 a week. There are a few friendly folks, but for the most part the employees just don't seem happy. Today, at the customer service counter, the woman waiting on me was simply rude. Not the first time. When she approached me I told her I needed help with a few items. After helping me with the first 2 items, she started waiting on someone else, as I stood there. After a few minutes, I told her I had one more item. Sounds petty, but I just have found it annoying. Considering going to another store and not coming back. After reading other reviews I feel I am not off the mark. I don't demand 5 star service from my grocery store, but if half the staff, especially customer service , could pretend they don't hate their jobs, it might be a better place. read more

Canton Shaws needs to clean up this store. I drive to Sharon Shaws so much nicer to shop. Honestly the prices are higher in Canton too. Staff is not friendly either. Its up the street but Shaton is worth the trip. read more

This Shaw's has everything that every other or the 150 Shaw's has but what once was a big, clean and fresh store is now seemingly 20 years old and as stale as days old bread. It seems a bit cramped in the produce area and the isles dont seem as wide as some other stores though it may be my imagination I never have actually measured this sort of thing. I think it needs remodeling. The newly remodeled store at 5 corners Easton blows this away as does Roche Brothers on Rt 138. Still it serves the local community well and the staff is first class Like most Shaw's the employees are for the most part helpful and pleasant. Lets face it supermarket shopping is for many people which ever store is closest and most convenient sort of like gas unlike South Florida where you have a supermarket (Publix or Winn Dixie) on every corner it seems. That being the said no qualms with shopping here but more and more I find myself going the extra mile to those other stores I mentioned. They're more spacious and newer and that perceives as fresher and cleaner in my mind. Two things: self checkout and an in store product locater app are needed here and for that matter at all supermarkets. Its 2018 !! Sometimes nobody is around and you need a weird thing like flax seed or pumpkin in a can and it can be frustrating and time consuming to search up and down and all around. read more

If you are going to this grocery store you should count on standing in line to check out for at least 10 minutes or longer. I don't have issues with any of the departments besides the front end where you check out. It always seems that they never have enough cashiers and the lines are always long. I would be much happier if management was more attentive to the lines at checkout and opened more registers accordingly. read more

My experience with the store today: 2 stars. My experience speaking with store manager Maura today, following the visit: 5 stars. Overall : 3.5 stars. 3.5 rounded to the nearest full number is 4. So 4 stars it is! But, only because of the amazing Manager at this Shaw's, Maura. I do basically ALL of my shopping at Stop&Shop in Walpole (which by the way, is the most amazing supermarket I've ever shopped). I go their weekly. And when I need a change (like today), I ended up at the Canton Shaw's. Same as last weekend, when I skipped S&S and went to the grand opening of Wegmans, which I understand, will not compare, but I will definitely be going there more often. Anyway, for this store. I had no problems with the actual store. (for checkout and for some of the employees, that is a different story). The exterior is appealing. It looks SO much better than any of the nearby Shaw's (like Sharon & Norwood, which are both terrible). For the inside, it's a bit dirtier than I would have preferred, specifically, I noticed many items on the ground in the produce department. In the deli, there was a LONG wait, which was annoying, but they were going on the number system which moved everything along fairly quickly, which many other grocers do not use anymore, which I like here. For the rest of the store (the grocery area), it was clean, put together, and priced well. Only problem was that they were out of Cinnamon Raisin Bagels. So that was annoying. For the checkout. The main issue. The last time I visited Shaw's, was on October 9,2015, in the Ashland, MA store.... I was SO impressed that store actually had self checkout, and that there weren't any lines. Here, there wasn't any self checkout (WHY!!!!!!!!), and the checkout lines were endless, LITERALLY. At least 6 people in line, and only 6 checkouts open. As well as a few express lanes (where there SHOULD have been self checkout). Overall, it took almost about 25 minutes to get through checkout completely, which I ONLY expect to happen at Walmart. Not very happy. Plus, I literally spent 5 minutes at my last visit to the other Shaw's on October 9. So after getting home, I made a phone call to ask the store manager a few questions, as there IS a sign in the corner of this store (dairy), reading something to the effect of "Never more than 3 people in one line at one time" (I posted a picture). She was so friendly, kind, and helpful regarding my experience, and assured my that she would not only look into what happened, but see if there was a pattern on Sundays at 2:30. Additionally, she even offered to send me a coupon for my next visit, incredible customer service. Maura is a great store manager, 5 stars for her. Plus, I called the Norwood Shaw's to complain about a few expired items, and manager Tony didn't even care, just the difference between how the Norwood & Canton Shaw's care about there customers. I have shopped at shaw's many times over the last many years that I have lived in the Canton, MA area. I find that their prices are the most expensive of any of the grocery stores in the area. I shop for specialty items here that I can't find at any of the other grocery stores. It is the only reason I come here to shop. As for the rest of my grocery shopping, I go to Market Basket in Brockton, MA and get 2x the amount of groceries for the same price I would spend at Shaws. If they would just lower their prices, they would get more business from me. read more

I normally don't have issues with Shaw's, (or particularly great experiences either), but today something happened that swayed my vote to the negative. I was using the self-service checkout, and a jar of organic chicken base that was supposed to be 50% off didn't ring up at the discount. I used the "cancel items" option and immediately a woman was by my side (presumable to make sure I was actually going to remove the item), and keyed in a code. Even though the aisle was right there, she told me that she was not able to go check the price, and I would have to wait for someone else (while she stayed with me) to go do it. In a rush, told her I just wouldn't buy the product started the payment transaction. She informed me that she was going to stay there "just in case" it asked for authorization again. She babysat me while I entered my PIN number for my debit card, and watched me walk out the door, making it obvious and clear to everyone around me that she suspected that I might steal the item. When I lived in Boston, I used to walk to the 24 hour Shaws in Fenway almost every night for groceries. It was dingy, had a limited selection, the produce was overpriced and Haymarket quality, and the meat section tended to smell bad. I avoided this Shaws for a long time from the residual grossness. This is not that Shaws. Holy crap. It's like someone opened a Roche Brothers and accidentally put the wrong sign on it. The produce section is huge, fresh, and reasonable. Much better than the Stop and Shops I've been to in the area, and probably on par or better than Big Y (still no tomatillos that I've found, though, sigh). I've never had a problem with the meats I've gotten here, and they don't go bad prematurely like can happen at lesser markets. The prices are average to lower than average, in my experience. Their Asian section is probably the best I've found in the area, with affordable Mirin and Sriracha Peas and a lot of great options. In general, the store is pretty huge, and I've often found things that I haven't at other stores at impulse buy prices. Great selection of hummus, and the prepared stuff always smells great. If the conversation I overheard between a mother and her son about how "White bread's just not the kind of bread that we eat" is any indication, the locals have caught on that this is an mid-upper level super market option. I was surprised to see the bad reviews, mostly centered around self-checkout. I'm not afraid to interact with humans, so that's never been a problem for me. Sometimes there aren't enough checkout people, but that happens everywhere I've been to. Other than that, and perhaps the annoyance of the parking lot, it's a fine grocery store. read more

Today I was sold spoiled lobsters at this Shaws. Not just one, but all 3 were bad. They were alive, but smelled bad after being cooked. One had red eggs inside (which is notmal) that turned black in spots - not normal. I called to the store to report bad seafood and was asked to bring the stinkers back in order to get my money back!!! Cleaning up my car from the smell would cost me more. Customer service didn't even care to ensure me that they will look into this or stop selling them. read more

I'm still not sure about this place. It's literally two blocks from my apartment AND right on my commute... but the self scan machines don't accept coupons, and four or five times now, they haven't rung up sale prices. It benefits them because I am at the self-scan to save time and I don't get a manager to come fix the prices for me. The produce section makes me sad. I guess I can't expect to find a huge variety of fresh greens and fruits in a little store in Canton.... On the other hand, I was able to spend about $180 and get three and a half weeks worth of food (minus fresh produce and milk which I have to buy every four days or so)... so it's kind of worth it to me to put up with the negatives. I don't know what happened to this store. In August it was great. Slightly pricy but good selection. Since then the selection has gone way downhill and the staff is slightly above useless most of the time. The cashiers are all high school kids that are more interested in shooting the shit than actually ringing you up and getting you on your way. Produce selection is beyond disappointing. My husband and I shop at this Shaw's regularly. We know that a chain grocery can't be a specialty store. If you want something special, go someplace special. But if you are doing regular grocery shopping, this is a fine store with good produce, a wide selection and pleasant people to help you. If the self-service isn't to your liking, let the very nice people who work hard for a living check you out. I go to this Shaw's all the time ONLY because it is much closer to my house than any other super market. Almost every time I go there, I tell myself I need to write a yelp review about how bad it is... Finally, I created a yelp account JUST to say how bad this supermarket is... My experience there tonight was: 1) Go in to buy milk and some strawberries. When I enter there are no baskets where they're supposed to be at the entrance. I have to walk to the cash registers to pick up a basket where customers leave them at checkout. I'd say about HALF the time I shop here, there are no baskets at the entrance, and I have to go find one myself. (hint to managment: provide baskets at the entrance) 2) I bought my strawberries with no problems... But when I go to get my milke, there is NO whole milk at all!?!?! No Shaws brand, no Hood, Garelick, or any other brand of whole milk. I'd take a gallon, half gallon, pint whatever, of any brand, but they have NO WHOLE MILK... Honestly, how can a supermarket not have any whole milk.... Lucky for me there is a CVS nearby which always has whole milk in stock... Now this is a very common occurence.. This supermarket is almost always out of some basic necessity. I've gone there for eggs, only to find they have NO EGGS?!?!?. Or for bananas only to find they have no banana?!!?! They are almost alwasy out of at least one basic staple on my shopping list... 3) Go to checkout... Yes!!! I have to wait 5 minutes to checkout. (Why can't they open more registers??? This supermarket ALWAYS has the longest lines of any supermarket I go to. I summary.. HORRIBLE SUPERMARKET. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I only go here becuase I live practically next door, but it is a truly horrible supermarket, and I really am going to start making an effort to plan my grocery shopping to go less frequently somewhere else (Stop & Shop Stoughton or BigY Walpole are much better) even though the other places are much farther from me.... This place is very poorly managed and the owners should really fire all management at this supermarket. read more

Leaving aside the prices, which are sometimes more expensive, and other times not, this is a miserable place to shop. For a while, they were improving. A few years ago, they had a fire in produce, and since then this supermarket has been going backwards again. Shelves are empty a lot, selection has decreased and, most importantly, the floors are filthy. Some of the managers, and upper-level employees seem like they just don't care about this store. I wish there was a Wegmans, or Stop and Shop closer to this location to put this place out of its misery. read more

First time at this place in a long time and I know why I never came back. They didn't have any French bread made. The strawberries had mold on them and the employees are rude and they are promoting a game to save you money and nobody knows how to play the game. We were asking questions and how to download the app and the manager who was wearing the shirt was clueless and probably should have a attitude adjustment and should know how to do her job because she was so rude. For the amount of money we spent at the store they should be a lot nicer and know what they are promoting. When I called to speak to a manager the manager on the phone she was arguing with me about how to play the game and the app had nothing to do with it and it does have something to do with it because you can win prizes when you enter the codes. Will not be returning to this store and train the employees and get some managers who know what they are doing and not have attitudes and not act dumb. read more
