Nice little LYS with a great selection of yarn. Nothing local, but it's Newport Beach! The staff person was very kind, personable, and knowledgeable.

I just started to get back into knitting and wanted to find store beyond the usual big brand stores. I came across this local specialty shop and absolutely fell in love. All the staff were very kind and helpful. I was thankful that they shared some tips & tricks about knitting and what to look for when purchasing yarn. I definitely found a lot of things I was searching for, on top of several items I never even knew existed. I loved that they have several completed projects made with yarn they sell. They sell patterns but she was kind enough to show me a website that has thousands of patterns available online as well. There were no secrets about the trade here. Everyone was very knowledgeable and willing to share. First trip here and I purchased several balls of yarn, books, and my most special piece I now own, the spinning yarn buddy in walnut. I am definitely coming back here in the near future. I can't wait to finish more projects and learn more about the world of knitting. Excited to try some workshops they have available as well!

Just starting but they seemed to know how to start me off!

Went to visit your store and not one person greeted me. I was hoping to get some yarn from your establishment but I walked out.

I absolutely loved my experience at Newport Needlepoint! Deborah was incredibly friendly, patient,…read moreand efficient. Since this was my very first needlepoint project, she gave me so much personal attention and made the whole experience fun and easy. She helped me choose my first canvas and all the threads, set up the frame for me, and even taught me the basic stitches -- California to Maine, Maine to California, and NEVER Florida to Washington! -- plus the French knot! Deborah is truly a sweetheart and made my first needlepoint experience so special. I also love the concept of the store: you choose your canvas and threads, then you can sit around a communal table, work on your project, and meet interesting people along the way. It feels creative, social, and welcoming all at once. Such a wonderful experience. I loved it and can't wait to come back!

I'm from the Palm Springs area and I made a trip to visit this store. I follow a content creator…read morewho raved about this store and figured my boyfriend and I can make it a beach day too. Location is really cool. Lots of shops and restaurants. The store itself is cool. Lots of variety and a big table for people to sit and practice. Upon entry, no one greeted me. The employee (owner? I'll just call employee) was helping a guest check out, so I decided to browse while waiting. There was a woman seated at the table practicing and I'm standing behind her. The employee walks up to her and sits down to help her. She finally looks at me and asks if I needed help with anything. I respond, "Yes, I'm a first timer and don't know where to start". She says, "well, you won't be the first person to ever do this. Other people have already done it." (Something like that) I'm confused by the comment and the lady practicing chimes in, "You mean you're a beginner". I awkwardly laugh it off and agree that I'm a beginner. Did I say it weird? Did i somehow insinuate I'd be the first person to ever do this? It was such a weird exchange. A customer then walks into the store and she gets up to help them. I kind of uncomfortably continue walking around in circles because I don't know where to even begin. She brings the lady over to show some recent work of other customers and I compliment that it's incredible work- trying to build a little rapport- not successfully. The employee finishes up with the customer and goes back to sit with the lady practicing- doesn't even glance at me. I thought maybe I'd just try to figure it out on my own because I was too uncomfortable to ask for help at this point. Then I decided this wasn't a place I wanted to spend my money and quietly walked out the door. I wouldn't describe this place as warm or helpful and it's solely because of the lack of customer service. My experience was just uncomfortable and look, I know this is trivial stuff, but as fellow business owners, I just want to point out my perspective. Prices for anything and everything are sky high. Where people choose to spend their money matters. If someone chooses us, we are eternally grateful. Truly. Whether it's $100 or $20- that's money that someone decided to spend at our place. That's support they decided to give to us. They could go anywhere, but they chose us. So when people walk in, even if I'm busy, I always acknowledge them and say hello and tell them I'll be right with them. That goes a long way. We always try to give everyone the best experience possible. Sometimes things slip through the cracks and you can't always make everyone happy, but we try. I wish this business tried. I much prefer to shop local and support small businesses. It's a priority of mine. I was anticipating spending $100-300. My sister lives out here, so I would have been a return customer. I don't think this business is impacted by reviews. I doubt people would check reviews before supporting- it's just not that type of place. So, 3 stars to not negatively impact their rating and a long review, because constructive criticisms can be helpful for positive changes. The other reviews so far reveal the problem. People either have an incredible experience or a horrible 1 star experience and there's a common denominator in majority of the 1 stars that's an easy fix.

Michaels is a decent spot for arts and crafts…read more They have a good selection for basic supplies, and it is an easy place to stop when you need something quick. One thing I like here is the balloon deals, which are great if you are putting together something for a party.

I love michaels. My mom used to take me here. It's nostalgic down to the common pine cone scent…read more But what has it become? There is apparently one lady working here, no greeting as I walk in with two little kids, then it's time to check out, $80 for a few crafts. and I have to check out all the items while white haired lady presides over the registers in silence, no help of course, and not even a word until I'm almost done and she says, do you want to buy a bag for fifty cents? That's her choice job now, I guess. So then my 4 year old son is helping put the items in the one bag and the box of crayons bottom falls out. "oh, looks like one of them broke" is all white haired lady says. Not a "let me get you a new box," or any help picking them up, or even a light hearted joke. Why is this lady here except to create an environment for suffering and be the arbiter of it? It would have been a much better experience if she were gone. Michael's does not pay me to do self check out but if I have to do it, I'd prefer there not to be a cold, silent matron making you feel like you're doing something wrong and having you pay for a bag you didn't ask for. Never coming back here.
