Maybe you're more organized than we are but we were caught in an emergency soon after a move to a new neighborhood, without cat care when we needed to rush out of town. We spent a stressful afternoon searching and eventually took a chance on BKLYN Petsitter. If you're in the same boat, stop looking. Richard is great. Richard (the sole sitter, despite the corporate-sounding name) is easygoing but also professional. It's a comforting combination and one that we appreciated after a couple of earlier attempts with more well-meaning but gypsy-like sitters. We're cautious, maybe even a little paranoid, about who we give apartment keys to but within five minutes of meeting him, felt reassured. We've had no hesitations about leaving him alone in our home since our return that first week to an apartment that was exactly as we'd left it. In our opinion, he is incredibly trustworthy. It's been two years and Richard's sat for our cats almost a dozen times - often at the last minute because we're so bad at planning ahead. Sometimes it's been for one night, others a week or more. We have no complaints, so finally got off our asses to leave a review. Despite being skittish and a nervous wreck when we returned from trips using other sitters, our one persistently neurotic cat has thrived under his care. She's usually lounging on the ottoman when we return, instead of hiding behind the desk and needing to be coaxed out. The other cat was on a medical regimen for months with as many as 3 different meds taken various ways and at different times. No problem for Richard. On return, our cats have always been healthy, clean, sociable, and remarkably relaxed. Richard's laid-back persona reassured us when we first met him and carries over to his behavior with our beasts, who treat him like one of the family now. He's kind to them, competitively priced, always there when we need him, cleans the litterbox, and can be trusted with our keys. Seriously, stop looking. read more

Richard is great. I was very nervous about finding a cat sitter because my cat is very attached to me and needs lots of attention. I have never used a cat sitter and I have had my cat Felix for five years. I finally had to hire a cat sitter and I couldn't be happier with Richard. Before I went away, Richard came to my apartment to meet Felix and me and I was immediately put at ease by his gentle and caring nature. As for the visits (I do 2 a day), Richard does exactly what I ask, and the best part is that he texts at every visit to let me know how Felix is doing. Just recently my wife and I started taking care of a pitbull who lived on the streets. He was left tied up in a construction site and rescued by our friends. He took less than 30 minutes to trust our friends and let them take him. Rich took 20 minutes of his time to make the decision that because this dog growled at him (while in our home) and didn't trust him right away that he wasn't worth his time. I had a horrible experience with this dog walking service. Richard (BKLYN PetSitter) used to walk my dog weekday afternoons and everything was peachy until one evening I came home to find a very, very sick dog. There was puke and diarrhea everywhere and the cause: my dog had been eating ta large piece of styrofoam from outside. Now, I admit my dog is a scrounger, she loves to pickup and eat litter off the streets. But I believe when you put your dog in someone else's care they are responsible for their safety, regardless of any bad habits the dog may have. When confronted Richard was defensive and never apologized for the incident. He immediately decided to discontinue service for me and returned my keys that evening, leaving me with no dog walker the following day. Richard is a nice, sincere guy, but that means nothing when his lack of detail leads to gross negligence. He is unprofessional, inexperienced and incompetent. Do your pet a favor and find a reputable pet service on Yelp that is insured and reliable. If you care about your pet's welfare and safely stay away from BKLYN PetSitter. read more

I am lucky enough to take my dogs to work with me each day but on those rare occasions where I can't, Richard is our go to person. I have called him at 9pm the night before and even on one occasion tweeted him well after a reasonable hour to call him and he responded right away and came the next morning to walk our dogs. My husband and I are animal obsessed, the proud parents of two dogs and two cats so we don't leave them in the care of just anyone. We trust Richard and feel absolutely great about leaving them in his car. Richard is a great pet sitter. He is very reliable and very responsive. Each time I have asked him to pet sit for my cat he has always been available. He is a no nonsense guy who has a genuine interest in caring for animals. I have used Richard two times now, and I plan to use him as my regular pet sitter from now on. Richard is wonderful. I first met him over 3 years ago when I had health problems and could not walk my dachshund, Rocky. He walked him twice a day, played with him and was here in all kinds of weather.
