Wow! an impressive 165 reviews!!!!!!! BUT BEAWARE !!! DO YOUR OWN FACT CHECKING WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS!! We had a terrible experience at this office.When we relocated to Fremont my family was due for routine 6 month preventive services. Believe me its very easy to get appointments at this place.they are open at Saturdays as well.... My both kids went for their routine services and a couple of months later both my husband and me visited. I have 2 experiences that went wrong, to share. First, when i walked in for appointment on a Saturday and sat on the chair ,the hygienist for readying for prophylaxis , i heard her requesting for a set of diagnostic instruments(mouth mirror and probe) after being disappointed with something may be the reflectiveness of the mirror i guess, she asked for another set. the aide walked in with a set of instruments in her hands and handed it over to the hygienist, i was shocked to see her rub a speck of hair off the mouth mirror before she placed it into my mouth. May be she didn't find a sterilized instrument pack or if she was in a hurry as it was a Saturday and less staff working , im not too sure. i was shocked to see this. i returned back home and decided not to visit this place again. Second, we decided to go ahead with another dentist in the beginning of 2017, finally got appointment on february and it was discovered that my son has couple of cavities that went unnoticed at the previous appointments. As a result i had to get the cavities filled which had already progressed considerably. also was informed that maybe if an abscess developed my son will have to undergo RCT So, the preventive services turned out to be wasteful.... There is clearly no protocol followed whether it be requesting for previous records or sterilization of instruments. read more

This review is long pending. Firstly, the Dr. Dobee is awesome. She is deft with her hands, knowledgeable and has great people skills. The reason for my stellar review is due to her billing staff. Long story short, we recently moved to Fremont and found her via Yelp.She accepts our insurance we were given a quote of $X to do couple of procedures. This was after they had double checked with the insurance on our coverage and the procedure. Two months post visit we get a bill for $3X from the insurance. Two visits to her office, at least half a dozen calls to her office and insurance company, we still had no clarity on why was estimate off by 3 times. We have moved on to another dentist but I wish things had turned out differently. We loved Dr. Dobee but her support/ billing staff could use serious upgrade. I sincerely hope things have changed but doing my part to warn others. read more

No question with Dr. Dobee, very pleasant and skilled. But look at Mary's recent review or Maxim about the billing practices, I do totally agree with them. I love the dentist, but the one who does the billing if I am not mistaken the office/front desk itself sucks. ZERO STAR AT ALL. I changed my dentist because this is the most convenient location and yelp review for the dentist was great. My two previous dentist receptionists always gave me an update about my coverage and my dues before and after my visit. They would send a quarterly statement whether if I owe money or not. FOR DR DOBEE'S OFFICE STAFF/BILLING, they CANNOT even give you a right estimate. You will be surprised you already OWED money from last year or for a few months back. How they explain the statement was not even vivid. Likewise, I have learned that the insurance company will ask for some paper works from the dentist office, but this dental office will take some time before they send it to them. Seriously, are you guys not doing an audit of everyone's ledger every month or even quarterly? I would understand if the due was a quarter back, but hey from last year and from multiple visits that the office staff failed to review and communicate to their patient timely! C'mon office/billing staffs, you should have improved your system based on your previous bad reviews on yelp. Still currently EXTREMELY POOR BILLING system and POOR COMMUNICATION. She is the coolest dentist I have met so far. She obviously is extremely qualified and an expert in dentistry but she also knows how to make the process of visiting a dentist fun. Updated review -.- I love Dr. Dobee, she's a sweetheart, confident in her work, calm, and quick. However, I am so unhappy with the billing practices here. This clinic is out of network for my dental insurance. I have been paying everything out of pocket for the last year, and trust me, I've had a lot of major work done. I ate too much darn chocolate over the holidays, and am now in need of a crown. I was provided an estimate of close to $2500 for the cost. I was also told my insurance would cover $1000 of the procedure and the rest I would pay out of pocket. Now I don't exactly have a problem financially, and I don't mind paying for good quality service at all. I was just scared because I didn't think I'd need a crown at my age. So, I called around other dentists for second opinions and ideas. I was quoted an average of $1600 for a crown, from dentists that are just as highly rated if not more. Now, again, I didn't mind because I like the work Dr. Dobee does and I feel comfortable. I was quoted a little less than $1000 (without insurance) from a higher rated dentist for the same crown and material, including work. This isn't the part that made me sad, just wanted to share in case cost is an issue for someone. The part that bugged me is the money, honey. Having to put "down payments", on not only holding appointments but actual procedures, really irked me. I cancelled one appointment in the past because I had a cold, and I payed the last minute $35 cancellation fee. No problem, I get it. I'm also a doctor and I get it. But it's not like I had an outstanding balance. I've actually paid almost $5k out of pocket over the period of one year, upfront, every single time. The accountant told me she speaks to insurance every Friday and a pre-estimate was submitted to my insurance. I called my insurance today and was told my plan does not cover any major work. Bam. I would have had to pay almost $2500 out of pocket, which the office knew I would do. Again, the money isn't the problem, it's being shady and not disclosing this information to me. It's not mandatory they tell me, but it's unethical in my books. I'm also a healthcare provider and the day my practice and my employees do such acts towards patients, is the day I take a vacation to look in the mirror. I've also worked on my communication skills at this office. A few times I was pawned off onto other dentists for a variety of work; fillings, cleanings, pre-filling anesthesia injections, etc. I made it pretty clear I only want Dr. Dobee to work on me. And as she is such a good dentist, she is always very busy and running late. I don't mind waiting, and I always clear up my schedule as I know my appointments will start well over 30 minutes late. I schedule with Dr. Dobee and am not told another doctor will be covering her, but I simply let the front desk know to reschedule. It's a waste of time for everyone, but hey, you got to ask for what you want. They also had an AMAZING dental technician that did my cleaning late last year. But she left for a corporate dental position in silicon valley. Darn. She was like a robot! So quick, confident, and thorough! Again, I do think Dr. Dobee is a great dentist. It's hard to find a good practitioner, especially if you're scared of dentists. I just had one too many experiences that don't make for a good long-term family dental office. read more

This is truly a neighborhood dental office, because it is literally in what was once a home, but it, along with the adjacent buildings, has been converted into professional looking businesses. The waiting room was clean, and very warm and inviting. Dr. Dobee has managed to create a perfect ambience that feels like the waiting room of a day spa (complete with water element). She said she wanted her office to be like her home, and from what I saw, with hardwood floors, warm colored walls and crown molding. it most definitely achieves that in a good way. In fact, the chair I sat on was the same we have in our own home (Ikea) Dr. Dobee was friendly, high energy, and very agile with the dental tools. I never thought I'd say that I look forward to my next tooth cleaning, but there you go. read more

I was looking for a first class dentist for a long time and after years of search I finally found Shelia. Sheila always uses the latest materials and technology. She stays on top of all changes and innovations in the industry and as such can save teeth other dentist would extract. In addition Sheila has an amazing taste so all the crowns and fillings she does look very natural and aesthetically beautiful. tl;dr; Overall, I felt Gassan Hawari suggested unnecessary treatment options and kept changing his treatment plan the more we asked questions with the defense that he always takes a cautious approach(declaring a teeth requires root canal even if there are chances of getting fixed with a filling). I felt he had no regard or care for his patients when he suggested unnecessary treatment knowing my wife was breastfeeding and everything she would need to go through. Avoid this practice at any cost. I went here for my wife. We recently had a baby and she is breastfeeding. She started feeling sensitivity and pain in one tooth. They took an X-Ray and Gassan Hawari came in to take a look. He examined and said there was nothing wrong with the tooth and its probably her gums that is hurting her. It was fine until here. Then he started pointing out cavities in two other ones and recommend a root canal as the ONLY OPTION for both of them and that we should act immediately and he was very sure of it. He also insisted on getting a CROWN after the root canal for both of them. I asked him if there is a way we could save the tooth without a root canal and I shared my experience. He then started changing his recommendation saying yes he could probably try and save one of them, but for the other root canal needs to be done. Again, he went onto to suggest making a crown for both of them no matter what the method was(filling or root canal). He was again so confident and sure on his NOW CHANGED RECOMMENDATION. I took a look at the x-ray again and looking at the decay asked if a crown was really necessary for the second tooth. He NOW AGAIN CHANGED his recommendation to say he should be able to do the filling for one tooth without needing a crown. WOW! At this point, I had serious doubts on his skill and competency and it felt he was trying to suggest expensive treatments and had no regard for what my wife will need to go through - she was breastfeeding. He did not stop there, he started saying why he had suggested root canal in the first place as he had seen patients who had died because the infected tooth constricted the airway and for the upper tooth caused problems in the eye. read more

My family and I have shared the same dentist for about 14 years and I have always been happy with him, but when I moved out to the East Bay I was looking for a new dentist closer in the area that also did cosmetics. Enter, Dr. Sheila Dobee. My original plan was to get veneers so I could have the perfect smile, but she convinced me to get Invisalign instead since I was a little uneasy about the veneer process and my teeth are in perfectly good health. I've never hated going to the dentist, but I never got excited about it either. Now that Dr. Dobee is my dentist, I think it's actually fun to go to the dentist. Dr. Dobee was everything I was looking for in a dentist. She's smart, informative, kind, and up to date with all the technology. There are never any long waits for your appointment (I used to fall asleep in the chair waiting at my old dentist), but what I like most about having Dr. Dobee as my dentist is how she truly wants to be your friend. In fact, one time she told me she went to one of her patient's graduations. Who invites their dentist to their graduation?!? Well, if I hadn't already graduated I surely will now!! I read the 1 star review below and I honestly couldn't imagine Dr. Dobee speaking to someone in a condescending manner. If she did (which again, I couldn't imagine) she probably deserved it. She sounds a little psychotic on her review (hey, just practicing my "consumer freedom of speech"). I was a new customer n they did cleaning. I didn't get to see Dr. D because I wasn't told when I made an Appt. that she only comes for emergency only. I was disappointed already in the first place because it took me two months to make my first appt cleaning, had to wait extra 15 min. caused the hygienist was late then no Dr. D. I think If you r a new customers that they should tell u if u will not see Dr D. After Appt. Things got worst n very frustrated with the front desk. I gave all my info including my ins. and they said they don't have the info. Then they said my ins don't cover my cleaning..... I never went back ever again and then a year later I got a bill too. I was walking along at a Fremont fair and I saw three attractive girls standing there giving out free tooth whitening if you visit. Always on the lookout for free stuff I gave them a try. I ended up going and got three cavities filled (one deep!) and felt very relaxed there the whole time. This was the first time I went to a dentist in 5 years (last time were military dentists.... yikes) and I was definitely pleased. The whole staff is very talkative and professional. After having had several negative experiences with dentists in the area I can honestly say Dr Dobee's office has the BEST team in the BayArea and that's why we drive nearly 20miles for the whole family so we can get honest and highest quality dental care - totally worth the drive! Dr. Sheila Dobee is a wonderful dentist. I live in San Francisco and am willing to make the commute to see her in Fremont and that speaks volumes as my time is limited. I love her friendly, competent bedside manner. It is not often one looks forward to seeing the dentist. I can say that Dr. Dobee was the only dentist for which I make that claim. She has worked on a broken tooth, molar issues, and several crowns. She made me feel comfortable and was always helpful in managing my pain when I needed more numbing meds. Finally, at my advanced age, I have discovered a compassionate and genuinely caring dentist. I'm not exaggerating in stating that Dr. Dobee has changed my personal perception of dental treatment. I have a phobia - a paralyzing fear of dentists due to a long term, traumatic childhood experience with a masochist who used antiquated procedures and equipment. He wasn't exactly a champ in the pain control department either. Dr. Dobee is the nicest, most gentle dentist I've ever been to in my life.
