This is the closest shop from my house. My go to guy is Paul. Ive done numerous smog (different person), it is hit and miss. Mostly helpful, but strict. Or as he told me before, he is just following the instruction on the machine (which he should). Now, on the other side is the shop. Oil change, any auto problem, Paul is the guy. Straight forward with a quote, you can buy the part and he can install and just pay the labor. I like working on my vehicles, but between reading all the info from forums, youtube and googling how-to's, i just bring it there. For what is my times worth, it comes out that his quote is lower than anticipated. Best thing, he does it right. Any shop wants to keep their customer and i know i will be going there for a long time. Change oil, change couple of engine belts, replace all 4 brakes pads, replace front disc breaks, 3hrs from no appointment drop off. Saturday noon. This place is Legit. read more

If I could give double 0 stars I definitely would. The female employee who works there is incredibly rude. She was on her break and I didn't know. I asked for gas and she rudely said. "Can't you see I'm on my break". That's not the first time she's been rude. She is always upset while working and giving attitude. She closes the store without warning and expects people to know she's on break. Always on her phone while working. I don't understand how management is still allowing her to work there. ZERO STARS. Disgusting service. came in before 10pm closing and as i tried to pump gas into my car the rude petty girl working night shift stops the pumps on purpose and saw me tryna put gas. Extremely rude! I went here to use the air machine and put $1.50 in the machine, and nothing...it was completely broken. I went into the store to get a refund on their broken machine and a guy at the register came out to the machine with me verified it was not working and said "sorry bro" and walked away. He refuse to give me any money back. Absolutely never going to give them another dollar, which is sad it's my closest gas station. I'll be calling tomorrow hopefully to talk to a manager... Use to be a Shell Station, now it's HT Auto Services. I got charged $120 for a smog check on an old car. The car failed at HT Auto Service but passed at a reputable smog test shop. The only difference was that HT Auto let my car cool down... the catalytic converter needed to be hot.  It's not clear to me if the HT Auto guys are ignorant or scamming people but I'm not going back. read more

I came in after realizing that 17 was going to be rough (closed lane) so i ended up here.... and saw one of my alumni.. AWWWwwww. Kid is getting it together and is working nights in order to go to school during the day.. Full time employed and a full time student... I cannot ask for more. The gas station itself has a small cooler with drinks and some of the usual snack suspects.. but being conveniently located near the freeway and the prune yard is a definite plus. read more

Like the other yelpers I had my time wasted getting my smog done. The tech popped the hood and completed the test; it passed, clean emissions. He then told me I failed the visual inspection because of an after market intake without a carb sticker... I asked him if he saw it when he popped the hood, he said, yes. He couldn't tell me why he went through with the test knowing it would fail the visual inspection... So bought and installed a new intake with a carb sticker. Brought it back and passed, again. I come to find out my previous set up was legal. So time and money wasted. Awesome. read more

Do not take your car here for service EVER! A friend of mine brought her car here for an oil change once a few years ago. When I gave her a ride back to her car hours later we noticed that there were bundles and bundles of windshield wipers in the back seat, as if the mechanics went shopping with her car. She unloaded all of the windshield wipers out of the backseat while I just sat there in amazement. I don't think she ever spoke up about it, but she swore to never take her car back to this dump again. My friend also noticed that there was barely any gas left in her car when she drove it home. What kind of a Shell station is this? The dudes that own this place are totally shady and I would never recommend that anyone trust these people with their vehicle. When I tried to post a review about this place before I couldn't find it on Yelp. I later noticed a review for this same place, but it's under Pruneyard Shell. Came in for a test only smog check. It costs $50 as I didn't bring a coupon. My car had legal aftermarket parts in it. The older mechanic took 1 hour to complete the smog. Then decided to fail the car on "visual inspection", after all the emissions and other critical items passed. They stated their "free retest" was valid for 15 days, and told me about a hose problem in the car. The hose wasn't plugged in, which they saw prior to starting the smog check, never was plugged in during the smog, while passing emissions and everything else. I fix the hose problem, they won't give me the time of day, and won't accept it. They said that the mechanic that fixed it didn't use the right hose. I get the hose changed again to the right PCV hose, and they said that the mechanic I used wasn't competant and it still wasn't the right hose. They never offer to help fix, because they can't as a test only, which is I could agree with... They tell me to goto O'reilly auto parts to buy the real hose. The guy at O'rielly basically says that my car is fine, and helped me install a PCV valve which will fix any reverse vacuum issues that could potentially make me fail smog. He also begins to warn me that the place is a scam and I should be prepared to skip the retest and find a real smog shop. I get back to the Pruneyard Shell station for the last time and there's a customer that's starting to get their smog done. They kept insisting that I should wait in line before they look at the hose. I had to force them to look at it because I'm not planning to wait to be scammed. The other mechanic with a "Paul" name on his shirt (not really a Paul) hears my complaints of this goose chase again, and he seems to think the hose is ok, but refuses to answer. I get the older mechanic who did the smog to finally move over to look, and he still gave me a BS answer that the hose was tampered and I'd never pass smog at that shop. I took the car to another smog shop and passed with no problems. Pruneyard Shell is run by dishonest people. After they take your money, they won't give you the time of day, and will add plenty of bs excuses. I could add a few more insults, but I've got more class than that. This is the worst experience that I had with any auto place. In fact, I'm planning to report them to the CA government. read more

I applied for assistant manager only to be informed that they only start with cashiers to be elevated, regardless of Position advertised. Unfortunately, I didn't read any Yelp reviews about this place before I went to get my car smogged, or I would've saved myself some sorrow, stupidity and $$$. It has the worst service imaginable (the main smog guy speaks in grunts), and I think their smog machine is both ancient & partly broken... They told me to get certain things fixed (which I did at another garage), and when I returned later that week, they kept claiming my car wasn't "ready to be re-smogged." So basically the "free retest" was a joke. Immediately afterwards, I went to Accurate Smog Check down the road, and my car passed with flying colors. The place feels scammy and unpleasant--I considered reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, but I don't know exactly what to complain about. I at least want to post a vehement anti-recommendation here. Plz avoid at all costs! read more

Nice clean location. A bit pricey for gas as with most Shell stations. There was a bit of a wait at the register so went on down the road.

I have no idea why the reviewers gave this place poor marks. Last Saturday I was looking for somewhere to do my smog test. The only place I could find open was Pruneyard. I dropped off the car and went to grab a coffee and a bagel. OMG as I'm drinking I read the reviews on Yelp.. I always check yelp, but I was so desperate to get it smog tested on my day off, I was so happy to find a place open. Why oh why didn't I read yelp first. I couldn't get back to the smog place quick enough!! When I got back my 2006 Ford Expedition had passed, no problems all ready to go, paperwork sent to DMV and all I had to do was pay. The customer service and experience was perfect. I asked why they get such low yelp reviews. He said people don't like it when cars fail due to having illegal parts or other things not working on the car. My experience was great, I'll go back next time, can't say anymore than that. I got my smog test here after moving from the east coast. The people were very friendly and serviced my truck quickly while there were other vehicles being worked on as well. I came back a couple weeks later for an oil change and received the same friendly prompt service. You do need to be sure to make eye contact/verbal contact with someone there as everyone seems to be multi tasking. I saw another customer wander around for about 15 minutes before she caught someone's attention. I didn't have that issue at all, pulled up, spotted a mechanic and said i was here for an oil change, they took care of me right away. read more

I am totally agree with David G. I bring their coupon with $16.95 price but they told me that labors not include in the price! Could you imagine it??? I called to the manager and he explained that disposal fee and tax very expansive and total price will $26 - 27. I will not do business with them nor do I recommend any one else. If it would be possible to give a place NEGATIVE STARS they would earn five easily. They are not upfront or truthful regarding any of their prices. All around their shop they advertise $19 for an oil change and oil filter replacement. I used a coupon which was supposed to knock $4 off the price. After everything was done I was charged almost $30 for a basic oil change for a simple 4 cylinder engined vehicle, I asked for an explanation and was told it was $19 for the oil change, plus mechanic prorated hourly rate, disposal fee and tax. WTF is that crap. Not truthful at all with their pricing, if you go get an oil change at any other establishment the price you see on the wall is what you will pay aside from the state tax, they don't throw in any hidden charges. On top of that they put the incorrect oil type for my car, I came back and told them. They refused to drain the oil and replace it with the correct oil unless I paid again. I ended up going back home and redoing the oil change myself. Wasted a good amount of my time and money. I will not do business with them nor do I recommend any one else unless you want to get overcharged for terrible service and incompetence. read more

So it's been over 3 weeks still not tags from DMV. So go today only to find out Pruneyard Smog enter wrong VIN for my car therefore nothing would come! So I show lady documents and on 1st test where I was told not pass VIN right . Yet on second test where I refused to pay being written on my receipt FREE retest if within 15 days , so funny VIN was wrong and even says so on paper that he should have noted error and corrected. So Los Gatos DMV and I have place a report with BAR buera auto repair. 1) Test should have never even been started with check engine light on. 2) all Star places must provide 1 FREE retest and only charge be for the $8.95 certificate 3) then the entry error of VIN which clearly states on shop form is different then the car VIN should have been corrected by shop on the spot! 4) I should never have been treated to the point I feared my safety and had to contact police. This place use to be a good place to go to for a quick oil change, and I use to always tip them for their service. I recently had a lot of work done by a family mechanic(he has worked for us for a long time). I crashed my car and he fixed up my axel. Everything was in working condition. Today I went in and they did their inspection and when they went to show me something important it was my boot front right axel sliced. I was furious because I know they did it but couldnt prove. They tried telling me I needed to get my right axel replaced for 300..when I mentioned how my mechanic just replaced all that they then changed the price to 160, and another guy even said 100. I asked how important it is and they said that my tire will fly off if i dont fix it soon. I went home and had my mechanic look at it and there was nothing wrong, infact the only problem I have with it is that someone sliced the boot. That is a quote from my mechanic. I feel like sueing them for what they have done, Now I am late for what I had planned and had to postpone my trip a day. This car they said is broken also is the car I have kept in the garage since the mechanic has worked on it. So I know for a fact that my boot wasnt even broken before going in! read more
