Pulled up to use the vacuum cleaner cause they have a vacuum cleaner here went to go change. The guy looked at me like I was crazy and said hey it's not my vacuum cleaner. I can't give you change you got you changed somewhere else and it was just rude. I asked you the restroom can use the restroom at this place is just not for service. Do not repeat. Do not come to the Shell on patrol. The guy is just mean he doesn't want your business never seen anything like it. read more

Most pumps did not work or did not take credit cards. On the plus side staff were nice, it is easy to access, and there is a food truck.

I arrived at the "open 24" gas station early in the morning, about 1:45am and I say to the sleeping clerk $80. on number #5. He takes my card and punches in the data. It doesn't pump gas so I return to window. Clerk asks for my card back, cancels first attempt on pump #5, has me back up to #3 and while attempting the 2nd fill up, I realized if 1st attempt didn't cancel yet, it will decline 2nd attempt automatically. It did just that. I didn't have my cell phone. They were trying to confirm it's me. My bank was 5 minutes away from issuing a new card.....next week! Because the guy was sound asleep and messed up with debit card I only got $19.00 gas from...? UNION76, directly across the street. The WORST gas experience..EVER, anywhere. read more

Never use your debit or credit card in the dispensers, specially if station has closed. The dispenser accepted my card information and didn't start pumping. At first I thought I hadn't put the nozzle properly for vapor recovery and after several attempts to adjust it, I placed the nozzle back and requested a receipt, but was directed to see the attendant, who was gone. My credit card was charged $200.00 exactly! read more

Apple Pay and the air station do not work. The air station leaks at the tip, probably because it's missing a 5c rubber gasket. So much air leaks in the metal on metal contact area that the pressure gauge doesn't give a reading. Using it was probably letting more air out of the tire than it was filling it, and I really needed to know if the spare tire I just put on was good to go on the freeway. Attendant was apathetic and said it's a public area and people break it. I tried to explain about the gasket. He didn't care, said the gauge has not worked in a long time, and it's free. I tried to explain that the gas station has a legal/regulatory obligation to provide air for customers who buy gas (I did). He just got mad, and accused me of complaining, when I was just trying to help the guy with a simple fix. Don't waste your time here. The 76 across the street also leaked but not as badly, and the gauge worked there. The broken air station at the shell had actually visibly let out a lot of air in the donut and it was down to 20psi instead of 60. read more

This review is for the man who claims to own this space next to the shell. This man on various occasion has harassed me, followed me and yelled at me all over parking. He has used tactics like watching me and using space to intimidate me by inching closer or following where I am. Bickering about parking doesn't deserve the dangerous way this man handles disputes. In attempt to work harmoniously with this angry and combative man I suggested ways to make parking easier for his clients and gas station but instead yelled at me. I have then not used that parking and he still thinks it's wise to follow where I go and mock me. As a man twice my age and size I find him extremely aggressive and unnecessarily combative. In a city like SF I find this weird that you bicker over space when people literally live on top of each other and peacefully. Sir seek therapy and get some time off. You being an asshole to someone who works for a small business and uses the space for no more than 5 min. isnt your problem. But you following me and using these tactics won't. If my car breaks down near here, I would push it the 6 miles home before using them again. When my sister wrote her displeasure on Yelp!, the manager called her and told her to take her bad review down. My sister's 2003 Toyota Corolla's rim was bent due to the construction on Potrero and we were not able to change the tire because some of the lugs broke. I had AAA there to tow the car home but they convinced us to leave it there, with the keys, and they would see about it the next day. They quoted us $160 to change the lugs, a price we thought was a little high but we agreed. The problem was when we went to pick up the car, we noticed the new damage to our trunk that we immediately brought to their attention. In 3 spots you could clearly see that someone used a crowbar or something similar to attempt to open the trunk. The trunk doesn't open with the latch and the spare was in the trunk, but instead of calling us to ask us how to get in the trunk, someone took it upon themselves to try to get in. I guess after realizing that if they opened it that way they wouldn't be able to close it back (words out of the manager Eric's mouth to me, remember that Eric), they then decided to go through the back seat to get the tire. After they denied it to high heaven, I simply paid my bill in full along with the cost of a new rim ($278 total) and continued to intelligently express my displeasure. When I returned the next day to pick up my prepaid rim and conclude my business forever with this place, the manager continued to try to convince me that something else could have happened because the car was on their lot over night...YEAH RIGHT! The crowbar wasn't used to break any windows or used on any doors to get inside the car, just on the trunk. Sounds like somebody with a specific purpose. I could have gone to a point of no return, but I kept my composure, left, and decided to hit them where it hurts...their business reputation. I dare you to call me, you have my number. read more

My bf needed windshield wiper fluid for his car so he stopped in here to get a jug. He grabs one and brings it up to the counter to pay. This is what transpired: _______________________________ Shell Guy: $16.32 BF: What? Shell Guy: $16.32 BF: For wiper fluid? Shell Guy turns the jug around showing him that the sticker on it says $14.99 BF: Don't you think that's a mistake? It shouldn't be more than $2. Who charges fifteen bucks for wiper fluid? ***This gas station features okay prices and despite being in San Francisco, it feels quite big; there seemed to be plenty of pumps and it was easy getting in and out of; unfortunately, despite its size and the fact that they have both a convenience store and service center on site, no restrooms are available*** I believe they have a few free parking spaces available if you just need to pick up a snack or refreshment at this gas station. read more

Short review: This shop is Suspect and yes that capital S was put there on purpose. Longer review: Facts: I came in here for an oil change and was told I needed $500+ worth of work done: - Dirty transmission fluid would need to be changed - 2 exterior belts (not the timing belt) were cracking and needed to be changed. - 2 rear tires had worn down treads and needed to be changed - The front tire had a nail in it that "needed to be taken care of" I've been burnt (or attempted burned?) by other mechanics and caught them trying to cheat me in the past by telling me I needed X, Y and Z repaired when all I really needed was an oil change soooooo.... I went home and checked the tread on my tires using the penny test (Google it) and figured out my rear tires were A-Ok. Someone from Larkin Bros was able to pull the nail in the front tire out with a wrench and it was small enough to not have caused any real damage. I went to Auto Medics in San Mateo (you can read my review) and their ASE certified tech told me: - Transmission fluid was fine. - Belts were NOT cracked and fine They charged me $0. So those are the facts. As far as conclusions go you can draw your own. read more

The bad reviews regarding this business are trash! THIS STATION IS HONEST!!! This is the best service station in this city. I have a 2000 VW...nothing but drama. I get taken advantage of alot with this car. I am not a push over either. This service station is honest and does a good job. I wanted to update this. Another huge bundle of praise for this service station. I would like to add...that I HAVE SERVICE DONE HERE. I dont buy water and write a review. I have my car worked on. I had put off for way too long having my timing belt changed. The "dealer" wanted over 2 WAY TOO MUCH MONEY. Eric did a great job....no problems. I have driven it for a month now and no problems. i always go to shell gas station for auto repairs service and Sam is a honest and trust worthy. But one day i needed a oil change and brake service on my car, i stop by at the shell gas station on potrero and i was looking for Sam, but he wasn't there. This gentleman comes out, on his name tag i see his name is ERIC and i ask him, "i'm looking for Sam and ERIC told me, he moved, but wouldn't tell me where Sam moved to and was being pushy about the service toward my car. I only trust Sam for all my mechanic needs for any of my cars!!! So i left the gas station and i drove south going back home and i saw a place i never seen before called "POTRETRO PERFORMANCE AUTO" and decided to try them out. I drove inside the shop and was surprised to see Sam at this shop. So i let Sam service my car and when i left i noticed i only drove 2 blocks up from shell, its located between 18th and Mariposa, a blue building. I won't miss it when i drive by now. Another good thing about Sam is that he gives reasonable prices that i can afford. So all in all....Potrero Shell is not what it use to be because Sam isn't there. read more

Eric is super nice and helpful... the other mechanics not so much. So, if you go in and Eric is not there, leave. Took my car in yesterday to get a nail removed. The mechanic looked at it and told me it was in the sidewalk and couldn't be fixed. He barely glanced at it. He told me I needed a new tire. I called and asked how much a new tire would be ...$225!!!! I wanted to cry so brought it to Rolling Stock on Bayshore for a second opinion. They fixed it for $25 bucks and were super friendly. Note to self: Always go with the neighborhood business. read more

Sorry to say, but I went in for an oil change and they failed to fill my engine up all the way with oil. This could have cost me thousands of dollars on a new engine. This is the most basic of errors. I had used them before, cause a friend had referred me. My instincts felt like I was being overcharged. I thought I was safe for an oil change. No way. I was afraid I was going to lose my jeep. My engine lost compression in one cylinder and after doing my own research found it was common for my particular jeep. Sad to say engine was gone and needed a replacement. It's hard for me to make that decision to replace an engine or buy a new car or another used car. They asked me to take the time before I make a decision, the guys at Performance Shell made me feel comfortable in my decision to replace the engine and once I did I have to say my Jeep is as stronger than ever! I just got it back and took it straight to Tahoe and put it to the test! It Passed with flying colors! I don't trust many mechanics, but these guys are top notch in customer service. These guys are the best! Eric and Lionel have been super awesome and I've brought my car in for a number of repairs, as well as a friend's car when she was having issues. My car had some clicking when I turned left. The stealership told me it would be a $400 part plus labor. These guys did the whole job (including a new part) for $275. They also fixed a leak in my cooling system and when I broke my windshield fluid pump (don't ask) they fixed that up for me right away too. My friend had problems with her honda surging. They gave her a great deal to diagnose the problem and fix the idle control valve. I found a cheaper part online than they quoted me and they said it was fine for me to buy that and have them install it, but they didn't recommend it because part of it was plastic and that coolant would be running through it and probably weaken it over time. They also fixed her broken seat (apparently an issue with all Honda Elements) for way cheaper than I read it usually cost on the chat forums. I can't speak to the bums that hang out on Potrero street or the people who do smog testing at the station, but I know the guys who have taken care of me have been super solid and I recommend this place to everyone. read more

I've been taken my cars here since 2001. In fact, both of my cars during this time have had pre-purchase inspections done by this place and I couldn't be more pleased. Both cars were always serviced there and only there -- never a problem. I find Eric to be honest, forthcoming, and knowledgeable telling me what I should do immediately, what can be postponed, and what simply doesn't need to be touched. With the pre-purchase inspections, he is extremely detailed, which is crucial to anyone trying to purchase an used car. Furthermore, the shop is reasonable priced as the last individual I sent to was happy to confirm. In addition, I've sent other people there and they too have had a great experience and thanked me for the referral. The shop can probably do a better job with appointments as they usually run later than what it's promised, but that has no bearing on the services. This is probably due to the fact that they try to accommodate everyone, including me with my pre-purchase inspections. read more

SERIOUSLY DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!! THEY DESTROYED MY CAR AND THEY WERE ONLY DOING SIMPLE WORK! One of the guys who works there even told me he takes his care somewhere else because they don't do great work. I only went here because my brakes literally died on Potrero and I could kind of push it in. I wish I had paid to have it towed because it would have ultimately saved a ton of money. They replaced my brake pads and then somehow, my engine was never the same. First, the car started making a new horrible sound. I brought it into my mechanic (who i trust and have been going to for a decade). He said they did a not great job with cheap parts but to take it back since it was still under warranty. I took it back and after redoing some work, they couldn't get my car to run. Kept saying something about air in the line, and redoing it over and over. I had to come back the next day because they couldn't get my car to start and this was after replacing BRAKE PADS. They kept telling me I could give them more money, but my trusted mechanic told me frankly that they were not doing great work. They did end up refunding me some of the additional work they did but I still gave them 100s of dollars and ended up with a car worse off than it started. My car never ran the same again and I donated it about 6months later after pouring more money into it. DO NOT GO HERE FOR MECHANICAL WORK EVER!! Maybe a smog check is ok but I wouldn't take my car there again if I had to push it myself. read more

It's the staff I don't like. They seem like they all could be related, strangely, and mostly have a nasty attitude when I was paying for my gas. After when I walked out I saw two or three nails on the floor, but i didn't think it was anything weird. After I drove for 10 mins, two of my tires were flat and it was the same nails I saw at the gas station. So I went back to the gas station and asked them to take responsibility for their action, but instead they told me it cost $250 to replace the TIRES and i was like WTF they popped my tires and wanted me to pay. DON'T Go HERE they just want to make money BY POPPING YOUR TIRES. read more

His prices for the work he did were about 1/3 of what the volvo repair guys quoted me, and they certainly did the trick. I am grateful. Needed a Headlight bulb replaced. The other repair shop I went to before this one did not know the difference between the high beam and headlight bulb location. The manager tried the bait and switch on me. When I got a check up, he told me my brakes only needed new pads. When I came back two weeks later, he said the rotors also needed to be replaced. It was very implausible that in 2 weeks of light driving all four rotors would have worn down. The manager also talks in that tone of voice of a dishonest mechanic, one who sounds so nice and concerned about you and your car, but is lying beneath it. read more

This happened back in July '08. I need a slow-leak tire fixed. I check around SF and get the impression the going rate is around $30. These guys ask for $25 so I go for it. 3 days later, I notice the tire is low again. wtf? I return to the station. The mechanic ( a hispanic man) checks it out and figures there's another problem. He discusses it with a supervisor who then proceeds to tell me the tire is bad and they can't fix it. He offers me $25 off towards his $100 tire. wtf? $75 for 1 tire? I know better that to take this ripoff. The tire has about 10K miles so it didn't go bad. The mechanic is obviously not in agreement with his so called superior and sees my reluctance to spend $75 to fix a flat tire. He tells me where I can go to get the tire fixed for $15. Good man! I'm from SJ originally. I have a favorite place on 13th Street right off the freeway. They found another nail in the tire. Go figure: 2 nails. I drop $10 on them and I'm out the door in 15 minutes. My name is SKY The guys that work at this repair shop are all THIEVES I took my 1 year old car on December 11 2014 to fix a nail in the tire that was so small and fixable by any non mechanic, I just didn't have time to do it. Mechanic's by fixing the tire drilled a hole so big that after that it was not fixable and I was forced to buy a new tire. After they screwed up my tire they say it's not fixable how about we sell you new tire we'll give you the best deal in town. Their attention was to screw the tire up to sell me their tire .I didn't buy tire at their shop. How could they ask me to buy it after they screwed it up !!! So I had to pay them $25 on top of all that!!! I went to proper shop to fix that tire where the mechanics where honest and care about KARMA.
