The food is delicious! A nice spot to frequent if you stay in north Tampa or if you love somewhere else, this is a spot worth checking out. The beignets were really good, reminded me of my time in New Orleans and the pancake combo was my go to. Great service and the food comes out pretty quick so not much of a wait.

I've been driving past this place for years and finally got the chance to stop by with a friend. I'm mad at myself for taking this long cause it was so delicious! It gave a very welcoming and small town local vibe. I enjoyed the straightforward menu and the huge plates. The pancakes were soft inside and crispy on the outside. The orange juice and fruit were so fresh! We came for the beignets, but forgot to order them because we were so full. So we can't wait to return and try them! We loved our experience there and highly recommend it.

A local gem and a must visit for breakfast. Splurge and get the Shelleys fresh fruit version of Pancake or French Toasts, and make it into a combo for a savory and sweet delight. The place is not fancy but has a calm and breakfasty-vibe. The servers treat you like its a family joint - welcoming and warm. You will enjoy this!

The menu is small but that allows them to ensure that all of the dishes are always consistent and tasty. We both ordered Shelly's French toast and it was just perfect. The French Toast was cooked to perfection with no soggy spots. The food came out pretty quickly as well. I noticed that even though there were a few open tables, they still had people waiting which shows me that they're managing the pace to NOT overwhelm the kitchen staff. Again, this was evident with the quality of the food and the speed at which it came out after ordering. This a a great spot for a casual meal, nothing fancy about the place so don't expect violins and a sommelier.

I was driving home through Tampa, starving! I asked Siri for breakfast places near me. I like to try 'hole in the wall' places because they are typically the ones with the best-tasting food. Upon arrival, the area of town was quite sketchy! It looked to be vacant & rundown. Can't really blame that on the business owner, tho. There were people standing outside the restaurant waiting to be seated. I stepped inside the door expecting to be greeted by staff. That was the first mistake -- expecting anything! I locked eyes with two of the three visible employees, so I know my party was noticed. Not one of them approached me for any reason. After about three minutes, I decided to go to the counter and ask what I needed to do in order to be seated. Apparently, patrons must walk to the back counter, find the yellow steno pad and add their own name to the list. How would anyone unfamiliar with the restaurant know this??? I was told there was a 20 min wait... it ended up being about 35 mins JUST to be seated, which included 2 sets of guests leaving before their party was called. After being seated it took another 15-20 mins just to have our order taken. The food AND beverages all arrived together another 30 minutes after the order was taken. When the food arrived, it WAS appealing to the eye! It was flavorful & precisely prepared. The drinks were canned soda --- so absolutely NO reason they couldn't have been served in a more timely manner! Our waitress was very polite but seemed quite disorganized and spread extremely thin with all she was doing. The table next to me had to ask for a to-go box 3 times for a to-go order that she also forgot to have prepared for the customers at said table. While the food was tasty, it was absolutely not 'to-die-for! The service was lack-luster at best. The cleanliness left A-LOT to be desired (literally saw the person bussing tables wipe the food left on the table onto the floor instead of into the bus pan. Patrons had to walk on/over the food in order to leave the restaurant. And the bathroom --- disgusting..... overflowing toilet, rust, and mildew all around the sink! Not sure I'll ever visit again.... But if I were you, I'd wait until they have more or at least better staff before visiting.

Read the reviews and Shelly's Cafe was a must try. Their breakfast is the best! Service: Upon entering, we were greeted. The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming. Such a wonderful diner experience and highly recommend everyone in the area to try. Will be back!

Shelly's is our go-to spot now. It gives a mom and pop vibe in a little strip mall. From the first visit we were hooked! I'm not a pancake person usually for breakfast but I dream about these pancakes every single weekend. They are perfectly soft in the middle, crisp on the edge, and not too sweet. My MIL who is a FIEND for pancakes loves them too! My wife always gets the chicken and pancakes and it's always consistently delicious. Also, if you are like me and pine for the days of Sweet Tomatoes, come here and get the strawberry lemonade!! It will speak to your soul! Prices are super reasonable and we don't normally have to wait unless you get there in the early morning on the weekend. But they have quick turnaround so even if we do have to wait, it's not long and it's VERY worth it.

Love that they open 7:30am on the weekends. I stopped in Saturday morning with my nieces and they had plenty of seating still available and also plenty of parking spots out front. Our server was super nice and attentive. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes which were so yummy. They put the chocolate chips on top which I really like because on warm pancakes they melt and spread so good with the syrup.

We arrived there was a short wait. As we were seated, order beverage request were taken. As we waited we were asked to switch tables, because of a 6 person reservation. I wasn't pleased with the request however my sister said sure. As we sat at the new table for 4 close to the restroom, the party of 6 never arrived. A couple was sat at our previous table. Anyway .... Let's talk about why I rated it 4. The server was nice, the restaurant was clean & the food was served fast. I enjoyed my omelette & the coffee was good. The server kept my cup full. The BLT looked like plenty of bacon. However the bacon appeared extra crispy.. I would return.

This was my first time visiting Shelley's Café. When I arrived, there was no one at the front or any signage about seating, so we stood by the entrance for a bit until someone noticed us. Once we were finally seated, I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with scrambled eggs and extra crispy bacon. The bacon was perfectly crisp, which can be hard to get right, and my little one had the home potatoes, which were surprisingly delicious--he ate every bite! The atmosphere was pleasant, and the staff were friendly, although the place was packed, with every seat taken. When it came time to pay, we had some trouble flagging someone down since it wasn't clear who our server was. We assumed we could go to the counter, but were told someone would come to us. Despite the slightly higher prices, I would return because the food was really good.

THE SOFT SOFT PANCAKES! THE GORGEOUS FRIES! THOSE AMAZING EGGS! And an empty plate that had fries for the table aka for me!

Good morning yelpers, You know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day- and being a lifestyle coach and personal trainer I couldn't agree any more with that statement. Today's breakfast came from a cute, small , chill restaurant called Shelly's Cafe. The service was good and the food was great. I ATE EVERYTHING! I ordered eggs with shredded cheese, home style potatoes with onions and green peppers, and the chocolate chip pancakes. This came as a combo for $9.95. The cheese on the eggs, onions, and green peppers were all an upcharge. I ordered green tea as a drink that came with a side of lemon and honey. The ambiance is chill. There are intriguing pieces of art around the cafe. Rest easy, your arduous journey for the perfect brunch stops here, dear traveler. Shelly's Cafe is a quaint little diner with lovely service and even better food. If brunch is an art, then the food served here is everything ever produced by the Renaissance masters. For starters, their Popeye's style chicken sandwich and sauce are to die for, both succulent and savory and a fabulous choice when you aren't in the mood for sweet and don't mind digging in with your mitts. But if you do want a sweet side, have yourself a side of fruit! Not a simple 3oz fruit cup like you might receive at any other restaurant, but a whole banana, strawberries, blueberries, AND a cup of caramel dipping sauce! The works! I was flabbergasted the first time I ordered! Very impressive and a most welcome surprise. Other great options are the Shelly's pancake and French toast, both with a full serving of fruit dolloped on top. Finally, any of the omelettes are savory and delicious and will not steer you wrong. So saddle up and head on over to Shelly's, I promise your taste buds will thank you! read more

Shelly's Pancakes combo is the way to go!! The pancakes are SUPER fluffy and great flavor, and then the all that fruit on top! The 4 slices of bacon and 2 eggs any way are the perfect side. We were heading to Tampa to do some shopping, so we looked up restaurants with good reviews in Yelp. Shelly's Cafe looked good, so we decided to go out of our way and check it out. We were impressed. Cafe was extremely clean, service was excellent, and the meal was great. I got French toast with strawberries and bananas and 4 eggs. Was perfect! Ambience; Family inadequacy, stressfully overwhelming as is extremely compacted. Environment is clean & the service it's hectic as weiters share (indirectly) their frustration. Definitely NOT suitable for larger groups. There's no doubt the food is good enough. But for a stressful environment, where you can nearly hear the person next to you breathe & your childrens to be on everyone's way I believe this restaurant lacks. In terms of an emergency evacuation? One way in-one way out; which elevates major risks as tight the establishment is which is to be concerned. read more

Visited Shelly's for Sunday breakfast & had the Shelly's French Toast - toast topped with bananas, strawberries, blueberries & powdered sugar. The toast had a great texture and was reasonably priced. Wow, this place has just went downhill. We went there yesterday on a Saturday for the first time since Cameron was no longer working there we knew the cook, but that was only person that we knew it took them 18 minutes to come and take our order but the guy beside us they took his order as soon as he sat down, we asked for a 2nd cup of coffee. It took another 10 minutes and that didn't even happen so my husband said you know what I'm just gonna go pay for the coffee and cancel our order and we're gonna go so they charged us for 2 cups of coffee when he only got one cup of coffee so if you wanna go to Shelley's don't go to a different restaurant you will be much happier. I would not be sad if they close down I would just be sad for the girl that cooks all the meals and another thing. What restaurant that serves breakfast don't serve grits anymore they quit serving grits like six months ago again don't go to Shelly's. It's not worth the money it's not worth the wait it's not worth anything. we used to come there every Saturday when Cameron was working there and then when Cameron was no longer working there, we came there a couple of times and it was OK but this time it was the worst. read more

This place was super nice. The ambiance and decor is great. The staff is really polite and attentive. The food is fresh and high quality, just delicious. If I have to be completely honest, it's my favorite breakfast/brunch place in the USF area. My first time venturing to this new restaurant was on a Monday morning when there was only one other table aside from ours. Not too sure what the theme for the restaurant is, but the wall art was contemporary and well decorated. I ordered the Ham and Cheese Omelet, which included home fries and two pieces of toast. The omelet was packed with three cheeses and ham pieces that fulfilled my empty stomach and the home fries (seriously so delicious) topped it off. Needless to say, I knew that I would be coming back. My most recent visit was on a Sunday morning, which you can guess is probably the busiest time for any breakfast/brunch restaurant. The wait time was only 15 minutes, but the food took a lot longer to come out this time around. With that being said, beignet bites were on the house to almost every table in the restaurant for the food delay. Does it being free of charge make it more delicious? Maybe. However, I'm sure that I would have had the same satisfaction had I paid for it. I ordered the banana pancakes with a side of sunny side up eggs and sausages and I was not disappointed. The pancakes are the fluffiest that I have ever seen and the banana pieces inside made it sweet enough to where I barely poured any syrup. I got to meet the owner this time and he made the experience better by staying on top of water and coffee refills while also greeting guests. Clean restaurant, friendly and attentive service, great food and decent pricing. You couldn't ask for more! read more

Shelly's is my favorite breakfast place in North Tampa. Shelly and her crew get it right every time. There is not one breakfast item that isn't excellent. Her home fries however are light years above everyone else's. The only unmet desire is that I really thinks she needs to add corned beef hash and eggs. Please! read more

What an incredible experience from beginning to end. A1 customer service and delicious food. Cameron our server was very kind offering refills on our coffee constantly and asking how our food was. I ordered the banana caramel french toast combo with home fries and bacon and my friend ordered the crispy chicken and pancakes. The French toast was smothered in bananas, caramel. walnuts and powdered sugar. The flavors were just right not over powering or too sweet. The chicken was juicy and full of flavor. They offered us sriracha and served the chicken with a sauce that was spicy/creamy. We ordered the beignets to go which they recommended we have one before we go as they are best hot. They were light and fluffy covered in powdered sugar. This restaurant is a must if you're in the area!!!! Most delicious breakfast I have had in a long time. read more

We were immediately greeted with warm smiles. We were delighted to see that the food and service (Izzy was super friendly and was great!) were all phenomenal, start to finish. We were a big group so had a chance to enjoy several dishes. From the Gouda grilled to cheese, to make your own omelet, to chocolate chip pancakes and spicy chicken sandwich (not to leave out the super tasty home fries!)... everything was absolutely delicious. The food is really good but man this place is so tiny. so if you want any privacy with your spouse so you guys can talk and enjoy each other company. This is not the place. the place is loud. You can hear everyone's conversation. if your eating you might elbow your neighbor on other table by mistake. that's how close your sitting to other people. but besides that, the food is good. read more

It was Mother's Day and we waited 45 minutes for a table of 2. Food was excellent though and worth the wait if you can plan for that. We had the mini beignets and coffee to start-YUM! Love their coffee btw. I got the banana caramel walnut French toast which was absolutely sinful and I ate 2/3 of it! My husband got a combo of French toast and eggs with sausage- he loved it. No complaints, great waitresses too, friendly and attentive! read more

Food was okay here but it was a surprise when I ordered a "diet" and I got a CAN of Diet Coke and a glass of ice. I am not a coffee drinker so I drink quite a bit of soda with my meals. Traditionally if a place (rarely) doesn't have fountain soda I always get water because one can of soda will never do me thru a meal. We were even more surprised when we got our bill to find out A SINGLE CAN OF SODA WAS $2.85 ! I about lost it when I saw they were charging $2.85 for 1 can of soda, and as my wife so elegantly put it, "you can get a 12 pack of soda where we live for that price!" If it weren't for the fact we got 1 cup of coffee and 1 can of soda for OVER $5, we would have probably given it 4 stars ! read more

This is one of the best breakfast places I've been to in Tampa because of the variety of the menu and the quality of the food. The service was great too. The fried chicken here was claimed to be great but I can agree with that. Their sauce to go with the chicken just topped it off as well. I definitely recommend. read more

These pancakes are the fluffy griddle goddesses that dance in your imagination when you think of the ideal "pancakes". The next time I came back, I had the pork chop breakfast. Y'all... Cute neighborhood cafe. It seems like there are many regulars that come here. The staff is very attentive and personable. The food was decent and well priced. I got the chocolate chip pancake combo. It came with four slices of turkey bacon with scrambled eggs. The bacon was not crispy enough for my liking but if I come back I will have to tell them to make it crispier. The pancakes were not huge sized so you get more than one. The one thing that would keep me coming back here is the service and how personable the staff is. The prices are also low so it makes it worthwhile. read more

Went there for brunch this past Sunday on vacation and the place is small, yet sophisticated. They had a sign stating that their chicken sandwich was better than Popeyes. So, in my mind I took that as a challenge being the chicken head I am to try it. They brought it to me and I was shocked how big the sandwich was. It was toasted bread which took up 60% of the sandwich. Once you got down to business the chicken was very good and they have they're own "Shelly's Sauce" which sets them apart. Lastly, they're lemonade was some of the best I've had this year. Wanted a to go cup to start my afternoon, but I got the last of it before they had to make more lol. I woke up and googled good breakfast near me and this place did not disappoint! The pancakes were so fluffy and moist fruit was fresh! I had a side of home fries that were so crispy! I have been wanting to come here for a while now and I'm so glad we did!! We stopped in on a Saturday and were seated right away. Our server immediately greeted us and took our drink order. I was so happy that they had iced coffee because it wasn't on the menu. My boyfriend got strawberry lemonade and I got iced coffee to drink ( unlimited refills) we ordered pancakes, bacon, potatoes, eggs. Our food came out extremely fast and was hot fresh and tasty. The experience the whole time was pleasant and great service. When the bill came we were shocked in how great the pricing was. Not over priced, just right. I have been coming to Shelly's Cafe for years, and although it has changed ownership, I continued to visit. When Shelly owned it, the cafe felt more welcoming--like going to your mom's house for breakfast or visiting your best friend. It always felt familiar and warm. I still frequented Shelly's after the new owners took over. Although it was different, it was still a very enjoyable experience. Cameron and Mr. Jimmy are no longer there, and the staff now are much younger. Which brings me to my point. These young servers are all very nice and always very polite. However, my last interaction there was appalling. I was sitting at the tables facing the bar and overheard one of the servers talking about her tips, or lack thereof. She went on and on about it, saying, "Our customers suck." Here's the kicker--she was actually the one serving us. I later found out she was the owner's daughter. Long story short, when we received our check, there was an 18% gratuity added. I was disgusted. Did she do this to secure a tip from me because everyone jipped her? Maybe they didn't tip her well because she was a terrible server. During our entire visit, she barely checked on us. My family and I have been dining here for years, and this has never been added. I said nothing and left another $15 in addition to the gratuity added, not because she deserved it, but because that's who I am. I will never come back. It's sad because, for the past four years, we've been coming here for birthday breakfasts, Mother's Day brunches, and our Saturday breakfasts. I'm going to miss Shelly's BLTs and that secret sauce her husband makes for the chicken. Shelly, I hope you open a new location. Or help the new owner get rid of the bad seed. read more

Without a functioning website, I wasn't sure what this place was going to be like...more upscale like a First Watch, or something more like a greasy spoon kind of diner. Turns out it is definitely more like a First Watch, with the menu heavy on pancakes, french toast, and omelettes, which from the pics here and on Facebook look amazing. I, however was more in the mood for a greasy spoon kind of breakfast so I ended up with a BLT, a couple of over easy eggs on the side, home fries, and coffee. The BLT was great. Served on brioche that was toasted, yet still soft and buttery. Five slices of perfectly cooked bacon was just the right size for the bread. The lettuce was crisp, and although the tomatoes were slightly under ripened, the flavor overall was really good. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The home fries were good, but nothing to write home about, and for my particular taste, the coffee was a tad on the week side. That said, prices were good for the portions, and I'll definitely make a trip back. The establishment itself was super clean, and the service was great...attentive but not overkill. I did find the decor lacking, not so much in the scheme of it, but rather how cookie cutter it looked. I felt like I was in a chain restaurant and not some mom and pop kind of place. From the mural to the perfectly placed artwork, it just seemed a little generic compared to other similar places who put a focus on the mom and pop local aspect of their business. Just my two cents. All said and done though, if you're thinking about going to a First Watch or some other kind of similar chain, skip it and head here and support local. read more

Although the restaurant looks like it had a recent facelift and the staff was very pleasant. The food is less than basic. Weak black coffee. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and beignets . The bread was not buttered, eggs were not seasoned, there was however a generous portion of bacon. The sandwich came with home fries. Again unseasoned, the potatoes were cut very thin and were soggy, not crisp at all. The beignets, lets call them what they were, funnel cake mix in the shape of a roll. These were over fried and dry. I'm very disappointed. Found this place on Yelp, it looked beautiful and the pictures of the food look amazing. I'm so disappointed. Mind you I spent over $15. I started coming here more recently -- this is my second visit just this week. Sadly, both experiences were disappointing. The first time I came, everyone was super friendly and my bacon was fresh off the grill. It honestly made me think I'd found my new go-to spot. But these last two visits? Totally different story. The food felt like the bare minimum -- the bacon looked like it had been rewarmed, and this time, I even found what looked like fur or lint on it. That was beyond unacceptable. A nice diner-like restaurant. The food is good and the portion sizes are large. The coffee was excellent. Prices are reasonable. We had French Toast, Banana Nut Pancakes, and Pork Chops. This place is amazing. Not only was the breakfast one of the best meals I've ever had, but the service was also incredible. It's a warm atmosphere with delicious food. We were already planning our next visit before we even got our food. Great place! read more

The chicken strips were uncooked. Kitchen staff was drinking and smoking on the job. The waitress and cook were making out in front of us. absolutely aweful read more
