The restaurant was very clean and had such a cozy, welcoming vibe, making it the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy a great breakfast. I ordered the Lumberjack, and everything came out great. The eggs were cooked perfectly and placed on top of the mashed potatoes--not cooked together--but honestly, it still worked really well and tasted amazing. One thing I really liked is that you can sub the biscuit for French toast or pancakes. I chose the French toast, but the Lumberjack is so much food that it was honestly hard to even get to it . Is this place for real? Bill was $50.00 Server was Sarah. She was fine. But I asked her how the "smash burger" was - she over sold it needless to say. But good for her for getting a sale. Here is what we got; $14.00 Waffles - not fully cooked and straight out of a box- not fresh- hard parts throughout from freezer burn. 2 slices of bacon (this was fine) "smash burger" is NOT A SMASH BURGER AT ALL. Patty's are also frozen from a box and a traditional smash burger is paper thin- not 1/2 thick. And it was not fresh- definitely a frozen patty. More of a 3.5 star but my order of Jessie's grits was cold. Like it was made first, then sat while my pancakes and my wife's breakfast was being made. The combination of ingredients was very good but the grits themselves were not really special. My pancakes were well executed, and what pushed this to 3.5 - could have been a 4 with hot grits - was the fact that they provided heated syrup. I can't recall anywhere I've experienced that. Service was prompt and friendly. The whole staff was hustling. Interior was bright diner style and no sound dampening whatsoever. A couple of tables of 8 and it's pretty loud inside. A colleague and I stopped in for a Sunday breakfast. The place was busy with families but the wait was less than 10 minutes. There were plenty of staff and no delay in getting served. A coffee pot was left at the table with a half and half in a small creamer. I chose the blueberry pancakes and a side order of sausage patties. The pancakes were good-not the best ever- and topped with blueberries and a drizzle of blueberry compote. Blueberry flavored syrup was too thin. The sausage patties were also thin and likely out of a Sysco box. My friend built an omelette from egg whites and added spinach, cheese and tomato. He substituted fruit cup for the potatoes. Been wanting to try this place since coming into town for a Buccaneers game this past September. I was definitely not disappointed! I got the Bougie Benny consisting of two poached eggs on top of a Belgian waffle, hollandaise sauce and their loaded home fries. Wow! What a great surprise. We had a great experience at Himes Breakfast House. The service was super speedy. There were many different choices for both breakfast and lunch. The Lumberjack Bowl had nicely flavored potatoes and eggs cooked to perfection. The Good Morning Pancakes were delicious. They came with banana and strawberry slices with blueberries sprinkled over. They also came with blueberry syrup complete with whole blueberries in it. The restaurant looked like a breakfast place but had beautiful paintings on the wall. Well... What a great little restaurant. I think my wife was hesitant about going here because she thought it served "simple food" -- she thought kind of like IHOP. This is far better than IHOP. I don't care how hungry you are -- Do not order this if you are alone. You cannot eat the whole thing. This is definitely a shareable plate. Thankfully, my wife was with me. I stole a small section of her breakfast and gave her half of mine. We still took French toast home as we still couldn't eat all of it. My wife got the chicken fried steak. To be fair... Just regular. It's hard to mess up chicken fried steak. It wasn't exceptional, but it wasn't bad either. Just good. Now the biscuit... It's a good biscuit! They have some fancy syrups as well... They tasted like syrup to me. I can't really give it a good or bad. But all in all the food was fantastic. Last... The price. The price is pretty good. I don't say that often enough. My French toast was actually more expensive than my wife's country fried steak surprisingly. But, both breakfasts were under $15 each and in truth 2 breakfasts could feed 4 people. The breakfast was average- byo omelet - the one thing that was disappointing is that they didn't have any breakfast meat without pork. They do have chicken sausage but it has a pork casing which we appreciated the waitress having knowledge of. The red pepper hollandaise sauce was yum! The biscuit was also pretty good! This place was fully packed when I got there to put my name on the waitlist. The waiting area was full as well. It took about 30 minutes to get seated, but the staff was friendly and attentive. The decor around this place was simple and understated. It did not try to recreate the past, but had several relevant nods to their founder and staff. Home fries were undercooked, biscuit was dry and hard and bacon was weirdly not salty enough. Not sure how that's achieved. I took the pancakes togo because once I have a meal, they will make a great dessert. As for ambiance, I could see they had the HEATER literally set to 80. It was mind numbingly hot and so bright it felt like a hospital. I should have gone with my gut and gotten something savory like a Benedict, but they do not allow substitutes for sides on the omelette and my husband is keto, so I didn't want to double up on the same sides. My other mistake was not asking what "loaded" home fries meant, because regular Homefries was just potatoes and I was looking forward to the onions and peppers from the photos. I lived on the same street as this place for YEARS and somehow never noticed it though I'd heard the name. Today I was in the mood to try something outside of my usual trendy breakfast spots and the pics on Yelp looked amazing. I stopped in around 11:30 on a Saturday and put my name on the list to be seated for 1. The 2 hosts were so bubbly and friendly. The place was pretty busy and my wait still didn't exceed 15 minutes. It's truly a family establishment. At the entrance, there is a chest full of toys to keep the kids entertained. A very nice touch I haven't seen anywhere else. As soon as my name was called for seating, the manager guided me to my table and my server, Angel greeted me within 60 seconds. I decided to browse the menu while I was waiting so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the Mississippi catfish and eggs, which came with grits or home grits and a choice of biscuit, toast or English muffin. I chose the grits but decided to upgrade to their loaded version they call Jesse's Grits and a biscuit. Additionally, because it's rare u see these things on a menu, I ordered the chorizo bacon and fried green tomatoes. This is clearly way too much food for just me, but fish and grits and my all time favorite comfort meal and I will literally try fried green tomatoes on any menu I see it to see if they're as good as mine! We were in town for a concert and looking for someplace to have breakfast and came across Himes. This location does have their own private parking lot, which is fantastic. They have a wide selection of breakfast options and they do have sandwiches if you go later in the day and you feel like lunch instead. I opted for the lumberjack bowl which was packed full of potatoes with gravy and your choice of egg and then it comes with a biscuit or toast- I chose the biscuit. It was absolutely amazing and the gravy is by far one of the best gravy that I've had in a very, very long time. My husband did the create your own omelette with spinach, mushrooms, ham, and cheese, and got an order of bacon and toast and home fries to go with it. You definitely get what you order and the quantities are large. We also have to call out the amazing service we received as our server was absolutely adorable and super friendly.
