This was my family's second time staying at Crabtree Falls Campground. The owner, AJ, is super…read morefriendly, responsive, and helpful in reserving by phone and email. We stayed at campsites 30, 31, and 32, which are at one end of the campground and feel more secluded, farther away from the other campsites. This means your car is not right next to your site, but we didn't mind walking back and forth (slightly uphill, along a path); we recently bought a collapsible utility wagon that was super helpful in carrying big things to and from the site. The sites sit higher above the river, so it's a bit steep if you want to go down and enjoy the water, but you can do so carefully and it's well worth it. You will love sitting by your fire, listening to the rushing river and feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere, even though many luxuries like flush toilets, hot showers, and even a camp store are just steps away. No need to bring ice or firewood; the camp provides them at an added reasonable cost (but bring an axe to help break up the logs in case the wood is damp or fresh). Bring a grill-top for the firepit if you plan to cook. Keep in mind that the campsites are not very large; ask AJ when you book if your tent will fit. There's plenty to do in the area: Hike Crabtree Falls, taste beers at Devil's Backbone or Blue Mountain Breweries, enjoy ciders at Bold Rock, and next time we'll try the distilleries. Crabtree Falls is definitely my favorite campground in all of Virginia!

We always stay in the cabins (which is dog friendly) and they are always clean and super cozy. We have only stayed during the fall since there is no A/C but I can tell you that during the cooler nights the base board heat keeps you very warm. The constant sound of the creek right outside your window is soothing and a great change from a busy life. There is absolutely NO cell service so be prepared for that. Some super sweet camp cats! The sites were level and fairly well maintained. The overall camp location is very large and offers a lot of sites with privacy. Some are very small and can't accommodate large vehicles or tents. Be sure to double check the pictures. The main road is well maintained but you must have a high clearance vehicle if the site calls for it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The bath house was clean and standard. They were in the process of painting it during our stay. One shower is available inside by the toilets and two are available in the rear (open roof top). Camp grounds have access to MTB trails - hilly and fun. If we came back to the area we would stay here again.

Its location is perfectly situated for mountain biking and/or hiking on Lookout Mountain, the North River, and is easy driving distance from other legendary trails like Reddish Knob. Booking is straightforward and easy, although their cancellation policies could be a sticking point for people coming from a long distance on a strict time frame. The owners are responsive and communicative, and very friendly and accommodating when it comes to booking groups. The restroom/shower facilities are clean and perfectly adequate- don't expect the Ritz, but they're great if you need a shower after a hard day of riding or hiking (and you didn't visit the swimming hole for some reason that I won't even try to understand.) The cabins are also clean and cozy- they'd be perfect for a family of four who are used to camping and close quarters. The tent sites are basic, with fire pits, picnic tables at most sites, and plenty of space for a few tents and hammocks. The campground also stands out for its super fun mountain biking trails that actually run through the campground. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a young kid, you'll have fun on them. The swimming hole at the bottom of the hill is a true gem- there's nothing like going for a dip in its cool waters in the middle of the summer. I've been to Stokesville twice in the past month and am looking for the slightest pretext to go again soon.

Beautiful campground Laundry room was clean…read more It was a rainy weekend but the kids enjoyed playing on the playground when it wasn't raining It's a small playground but enough for our little ones The wifi worked fine There are some toys in the shop for kids to play with on rainy days The owner makes custom tumblers; I bought two, one of which she made custom for me. They are all beautiful! We would've stayed longer but the following weekend was fully booked so we are on the road again

Tubing Review: We had an amazing time. Was is exhausting,…read moreyes. Worth it, yes! Owen was great. He was a great driving the stick shift bus back to the outfitters. It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.

I learned that the buffet we experienced is only offered on the weekends. We were given a paper menu this time, which I forgot to take a picture of. The table received homemade biscuits with apple butter and regular butter. It was so good! I ordered the veggie omelet which was stuffed with asparagus, tomato, onion, and topped with cheese. It was so delicious and perfect! It came with fruit, bacon, and a pancake. Everything was fresh and delicious. My sister was looking at houses to lodge here because she loved the area, the food, and the atmosphere. We will definitely return

Our site was large, shaded and best of all level. No leveling blocks needed. Sites are gravel, clean and well maintained. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! Well stocked store, and they will make and deliver pizza right to your campsite. Typical KOA amenities, and they have a stocked catch and release pond on site for those who love to fish. Lots of activities for the kiddos, too. The road in is a little hilly and several curves, but big rigs shouldn't have any trouble navigating it - the signage on the road is great (funny sign on the road that said "1/2 miles Don't Give Up." Lol). We're more "state park people" in that we enjoy the space and solitude and we don't have kids traveling with us (just dogs), so we don't typically need all the on-site activities. But this week we needed full hook ups, and this park gave us that feel. With so much to do in the area, we didn't get to it all, so we'll be back and we'll definitely stay here again.

We were surrounded by forest so it was kind of scary being out there at 9 in the pitch black. There are lots of weeds that give the dogs briars in their feet. They have a trail you can go on that was nice but after 20mins my dog was ready to turn around. I never found out where that would have taken me lol. That was really the safest bet for walking him. There is many large rocks there. There isn't much grass. The pond is tiny.
