We made a stop at a vineyard in Shenandoah, and what a treat it was! Karen was our guide -- and let me just say, she was not your average Karen! A former biology teacher, she brought so much knowledge and passion to the experience that we walked away having learned a ton. Another winery had recommended this spot to us for the quality of their grapes and wine, and they were absolutely right. The variety was impressive -- the Barbera was excellent, the Blanc de Blanc was crisp and refreshing, the Cabernet was fantastic, and even the Pinot surprised me (I don't usually go for Pinot, but I really enjoyed it here!). Between the warm, knowledgeable guidance and the wonderful wines, this vineyard truly stood out on our trip. read more

Jan 30, 2021 tasting: FIVE. STARS. FOR. PRICE. Oh, you thought I meant the wine bottle prices?! No, FOR THE DUDE WHO POURED FOR US NAMED PRICE! He was awesome. Made us feel super comfortable and created such positive vibes for us. He was able to answer our questions about the wine/soil of the region, and was just a great person to converse with. Our first time in Amador County to wine taste, and this area is so underrated it's wild. Such a hidden gem, especially for Zins and Rhône varietals. What we loved about tasting at Shenendoah specifically, was that they took all the necessary precautions to make you and the staff feel safe when tasting. They took our temperature upon arriving and had us sign a COVID-19 waiver. There was also a screen between the pourer and us. I know to a lot of people here it seems a little much, but tbh, it's better to be safer than sorry. Let's not have another shut down, am i rightttt?! OH! and yes, the wine bottle prices are unbeatable. For great tasting wine at $9-26/bottle?! We were so confused, but didn't question it--we left with 7 bottles! You can't even taste in Napa for the same price as the 7 bottles + tasting we got at Shenendoah. AND THE WINE IS ACTUALLY GOOD. Shoutout to their Vintage Port! I usually hate port wine but they do it right. We left with a bottle of this too #shocking. We'll def be back and will definitely check out their sister winery, Sobon, next time!!! read more

Snakes on premises warning! Her name is Judy! A group of us went up to Amador wine country to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. This place was our second out of three stops. There were 7 of us with the oldest in her early mid 30s. As we approached the tasting room there was a woman standing outside. We all thought how nice it was that she was going to greet us. Instead she started pointing at several of us demanding to see IDs. I've been going to wineries since 1987 when I moved to CA. I have never been carded. Next year I will reach half a century. Three of us refused to go in, one because she did not have er ID on her, two because I was so taken aback at the way we were received. There really are signs that say "Snakes on Premises". Went out with friends on a weekday for some wine tasting: this was our 2nd stop. The indoor wine tasting room is ample, bright & clean. Andrew was our host and was super friendly, outgoing, informative, patient & polite. We were able to taste 7-8 wines for $5! And as a few have mentioned, you get to keep the glass. Their chardonnay was my favorite, as well as the dessert wine. Forgive me, i cant remember the names. Shenandoah Vineyards is the sister winery of Sobon Estate, with both being part of the history of Amador County wine. This winery is set back from Steiner Road on a lovely hill overlooking the valley. Keep an eye out for the entrance as your GPS and cell coverage may be spotty in the area. The winery has a nice, albeit smaller, tasting room with great staff. The room is reminiscent of a large wine cellar with may barrels aging in the next room. There is a nice patio overlooking the valley for a more leisurely tasting. The parking lot is large and includes free charging stations with standard and Tesla connectors. Shenandoah is a bit easier to access than Sobon, however the reserve tasting includes a glass that can be used at both wineries. Like Sobon, the focus here is on the wine. Other places have a fancier tasting experience, but this is a nice place for those wanting a more traditional Amador experience on their trip. read more

This was by far, the best winery experience I HAVE EVER HAD! I really don't think I have had or will ever have an experience like this anywhere else. That place was beautiful and the wine was obviously amazing, but what really set it apart was the exquisite, excellent service. My fiancé and I visited my best friend in Sacramento, and she took us to several wineries. This one however was the most wholesome, fun, and amazing visit....all due to the extraordinary Elaine (don't know how to spell her name). She welcomed us like if we were family and was nothing but kind. Most wineries tend to not pay a lot of attention to younger people that visit, and do not provide detailed conversations or explanations about their wines and vineyards. It's sad and I've become almost used to that kind of mediocre service. Elaine, however, was extremely helpful, nice, and taught us a lot about how to professionally taste wine and appreciate it like an expert, answered all of our amateur questions, and went as far as offering and giving us a humble history lesson and mini tour of the vineyard and her family. She provided superb service and left our party feeling nothing but genuine appreciation and gratitude for Elaine, the vineyard, and their humble beginnings. By the end, she felt like family and we were nothing but grateful for her kindness, help, and attention. And the wine was oh so delicious!!! Please keep in mind, even though I firmly believe this family owned vineyard ALWAYS provides excellent service, the excellent service we received on this particular day was also due to the fact that it was a Tuesday, where not a lot of people were wine tasting; this in turn allowed Elaine to provide a more intimate, detailed, well-rounded experience versus if we had visited during a weekend. Regardless, I recommend this winery and am going as far as saying it's the best in all of California. Truly a hidden gem that deserves all the recognition. Marvelous. read more

We came here Saturday in a limo with a group for my birthday. I really liked the tasting room and the gal who was helping our group. But another women came up and questioned the gal helping us if everyone has paid for their glasses and their tastings in a very hostile way, right in front of my entire group. I think we were a bit stereotyped because we were younger but our entire group all bought a lot of wine from them it was just a bit insulting and uncomfortable. She was not discrete at all. I interrupted her and said, we did not pre pay, I would be happy to pay right now for the entire group if there is an issue.... she quickly walked away and we paid at the end like a normal guest would. I don't think we will be coming back because of her. It was super unprofessional and not very welcoming at all. read more

Our drive to the Shenandoah Vineyards was about 2 hours. Got there about 3 minutes late for my "granddaughter's" wedding on Nov. 9, 2019. So we got there a couple of minutes before the music started (so glad!). It was such a very nice wedding with the vineyards and setting sun as the backdrop! Tears of joy were shed as we witnessed this sweet, young couple profess their love for each other! It gave you the feeling as "aaah, this is the good life!" I went to this winery on the recommendation from their sister winery Sobon, for a crisp tart white wine. Their Viognier did not disappoint. Kim was who welcomed us into Shenandoah was a blast the entire time. If you like to banter with employees when tasting she is your girl. Yet another occasion where only my pre existing bias and my passive hatred for your United States keeps me from enjoying some surprisingly fantastic wine. Shenandoah Vineyards is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills that reminded me of the French countryside if not for all the silly SUV-tanks the Americans were parking outside of the quaint wine tasting room and gallery. Fortunately for me Shenandoah specializes in Italian varietals grown in America so my old world racism becomes very confused and allows me to taste and actually enjoy the wine. As I was swishing a barbera around in my mouth in a moment of quiet reverie I thought, "maybe these americans can actually make good wine." Thankfully I was able to promptly dismiss these feelings as the act of spitting brought me back to the real world. If you're taking your SUV-tank out to go wine tasting please taste the wonderful Italian wines at Shenandoah before you deservedly drive off the road in to a ditch and die, American pig-dogs. read more

Love this place. Taste the reserve reds for $5 and get to keep the glass. This Vineyard seems to be the last stop every time were in Amador County. We watched the sunset come down over the Vineyards as they were closing, simply beautiful. Organic wines and passionate wine makers. Large property with a fun museum tour. our pourer was EH....we are a younger group so we kinda get the shaft in service every now and then but once we start chatting attitudes change. If you haven't tried them, do yourself a favor and drop by, you wont be disappointed. read more

I really, really wanted to like this place. I love the fact that the wines are organic and reasonably priced. Plus I had a 20% coupon that I wanted to use. Unfortunately, the coupon went unused. We didn't care for any of the wines and the staff was indifferent, at best. I hate when a pourer just pours a wine and says "here's our Zinfandel" and doesn't tell me anything about it. I absolutely love this winery! My friends and I all went here for my 21st bday! Our first stop was rombauer and they were SO rude and didn't take any of us seriously, we waited around for so long after being told a host would come out to us in "a minute or two" so we left very unhappy. But We had such a blast here learning and tasting Shenendoahs wines. I had mentioned that I loved the Malbec and the lady pouring for us remembered and gave me a bottle for my birthday! Shenandoah Vineyards in Plymouth Ca. I have visited this little winery a couple of times and it never fails to produce quality wines. I was wine tasting with a small party of friends and was eager to let them experience this overachieving little winery. The party was welcomed by Jaclyn and shown right to a spot that had just opened at the wine counter. John was our knowledgeable and witty host. The party expressed a wide appreciation for the wines that were offered. Multiple varietals were being praised, and complimented. The 2011 Vintners Select Zinfandel, 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2010 Select Tempranillo and 2012 Zinfandel Special Reserve were the parties favorites. I would recommend each of these outstanding wines. The Zins are bright, fruity, a little pepper, and a dash of earth. The Tempranillo is arguably one of the best in the area. It is a difficult wine to capture with all of its Spanish influences. A wonderful effort by Shenandoah. Their Cabernet and Barbera are both very tasty wines and are more true representations of what this winery has to offer as far as big wines in flavor and character. The bounty here was a full case of Reserve Zin and a mixed half case of the others mentioned. I would place Shenandoah Vineyards on my short list of must visit places in the Amador county / Plymouth county area. Life is short, drink the good wine first..!! Salute Stephen P. read more
