So you want to go dinin Friday night right? So you make reservations for Shere-E-Punjab. Give them a call and they will gladly take your reservation for 8pm on Friday. You are all set! WRONG! Basically this place takes your reservation but they do not keep it. My party arrived promptly at 7:55pm. The small waiting area was very crowded. I got through the crowd and told an employee that we had a table for three reserved for 3 at 8pm. I went on to say to this employee that I understand that you cannot sit us right away because I can clearly see it is busy. I asked the 2 people in front of the crowd if they had a reservation. They said no. So I go back to my party behind the crowd. Finally, after 10-15 minutes, a table opens up with room enough for 4 people but they give it to the 2 people in front of the crowd. This place says they take reservations but it does not matter. It is basically 1st come 1st serve. Just stand in front of everyone and you will be seated 1st! I would not be ripping this place if they just did not advertise that they take reservations. I will not be returning to this place. I've been going to this restaurant for a few years now and have even recommended it to friends of mine. On 2/7/09 I made a reservation for a party of 3 for 8:00pm. Our party arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation and were greeted by an overcrowded waiting area. We tried to get somebody's attention to let them know we were here (a waiter, hostess anybody) but nobody even acknowledged our presence or anybody else waiting for that matter. After about 15 minutes a table for 4 opened up which we thought would be ours, but a waiter arbitrarily gave that table to a party of 2 (who didn't even have reservations) without even asking us about our reservation. I had to fight my way through the crowd to grab the attention of a waitress and told her we had 8:00 reservations, to which she replied she "didn't do the seating", and just went to the back. We weren't seated until after 8:30. The food was decent, but I am hesitant to come back or recommend Punjab anymore based on their total lack of guest service and their lackadaisical attitude toward reservations. They know how to take reservations, they don't know how to HOOOOLD reservations. If they're going to ignore reservations they should not take them in the first place. read more

We were here for Sunday lunch on Nov 27th 2016 , The restaurant is located in a very good location and is very spacious , Unfortunately thats were the good things ended. We called ahead of time to reserve, when we reached there it was almost empty with only one more table being served. it was lunch buffet, the dishes looked good, but most of them had not been refilled, we had to scrape through to get the dishes on our plate. The biggest disappointment was their Service, or the lack of it. They had 2 people manning the whole restaurant and one of them, i believe his name is Harman, was rude. when asked to refill the samosa's he ignored. but when we asked to refill the kheer as when we got to the dessert it was empty he ignored again and went out to watch some funny guy on the street. when i asked again he rudely asked me to wait and continued dancing looking at the street. when i asked the 3rd time he stared at me as if he was doing a favor. it was a disappointing end to what would have been a great day with my family. My first time trying Indian. I would say my neutral rating is due to the service. The waitress didn't introduce herself or any specials and didn't explain the menu it was just a "what do you want." We guessed and picked a few things, they were good. Then when the bill came she put it on the table and in under a minute came back and picked it up before we even looked at it. Waitress then said "how are you paying" I felt awkward because we hadn't pick it up and it was a first date and she put the bill in front of me. I was hoping my date would be chivalrous, and he was but it was uncomfortable with the waitress coming back picking it up and seeing we didn't put a card in the book yet , because we weren't ready and she kept putting the bill back down, in front of me! This happened about three times. In my prior service experience you put the check in the middle, not in front of one person especially the lady of a date. Unsure if I'll go back. read more

In an area seemingly devoid of any type of ethnic food other than Mexican, Shere-E-Punjab is a breathe of fresh air. The restaurant is clean and modern, offering excellent dishes, drinks, and apps. I haven't eaten here yet, but had their samosa at one of media's street fairs. Anywhere I see a samosa I will buy it, so I have tried a lot of samosas. This was by far, the best one I have ever tasted. Light, soft, fluffy potatoes, gently spiced, lightly fried, with a side a tamarind sauce I never get anywhere else. Unbelievable. Most samosas are heavy, greasy, oily, ultra spicy. Which I also like of course, but this was just a huge step above that, never knew a 5 star gourmet samosa existed. We really enjoyed this place. The food is good, and the service is good. This review is for the restaurant that's located in Drexel Hill, at the Drexel Line Shopping center. The items we ordered were Chicken Madras, Chicken Tikka masala, Shrimp Karahi, Baigan Bhartha. Every single dish was delicious. We also ordered tandoori roti, which was very good, and we like the fact that they don't add butter on it until you ask (we eat ours without). At the end of the meal, we had a Groupon, which they graciously accepted and we left with a happy tummy and left overs for the next day. I would go back any time! Really like this place. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for over 6 years. Even after moving from Delco to the Mainline, we still make the 20 mile trek to Media just to eat here. The food is hands down the best Indian cuisine we have ever had and we have tried many other restaurants in three different states. The vegetable samosas are insane and the tikka masala is unmatched. Besides the awesome food, the service is great. The staff is very nice and responsive, especially Paramjit. We've eaten here for so long, they know our order by heart down to the finest detail. This is by far the best Indian food restaurant I have ever been to! I travel a lot, and and love to explore different food restaurants, and from the many Indian food places I have tried, this place is by far the best quality, and best tasting. My favorites at this restaurant are the lamb samosas (of course!), the butter chicken and chicken masala curry, the spinach saag curry, and the garlic naan. Really tiny gem in Media, now expanded coverage in Drexel Hill. I have been visiting this place since it opened. Our boys *only* have their Chicken Butter Masala. Undoubtedly the very best there is. Other items on their menu is good, but for some reason, the CBM is spectacular. Be reminded that it is a BYO. There is a PA wine store about 2-3 blocks down on Main Street. Their choice of [Hindi] words to describe their menu is quite cute/amusing. For instance "Shuruvat" which literally means the "start" or begining (as in an inning) for the Appetizer menu, "Samunder se" meaning from the sea! As for comments about the wait staff, while I whole heartedly agree with previous Yelpers, one must give them a little leeway as it is pretty typical (I personally think it is cultural, but happy to be corrected by fellow Yelpers). I have eaten at just about every decent Indian restaurant in Philly and was not sure what to expect from sher-e-Punjab in media. To my pleasant surprise the food is outstanding. The samosas are on point as well as the nan bread. The soups are tasty as well. Absolutely love their Marsala dishes and what really make them are the quality of meat they use. The chicken and lamb are high quality not that fatty stuff....which cannot be said at many Indian restaurants. The tandoor is nicely spiced and really I haven't had a dish I didn't like there. Have dined in and take out...both are great but obviously Indian is best served piping hot so sit in if you can. Not to mention its byob so what more do you want? Highly recommended. read more

We have been eating here for years. It is our go to restaurant because the dishes are consistently fantastic and we have never been disappointed. My favorite is the chicken tiki masala heat level 4. It is so tasty that I will not share it with anyone at the table. The sauce is so delicious that I can eat it with just the rice or naan. The naan is fluffy fresh and tasty. My husband usually will try different dishes that he has never try before and he has always been very happy. We eat there so often that I don't even look at the menu. Also their Pepsi chaat, samosa and mango lassi are fantastic too. This place will not disappoint. It has never disappointed me or my family and friends. read more

The food here is fine--I've certainly had better, but that isn't my main worry. Rather, the waiters here do not keep their tips--they go to manager. I urge everyone here to NOT TIP--it does not end up in the deserving pockets of the service. Certain waiters are payed below minimum wage as well, despite the lack of tips. This restaurant is sleazily managed, and the endearing and hard working staff does not get what they deserve. Take this into mind when and if you engage in patronage with this restaurant. read more

Great food, love the expansion. That said, the service was NOT good. While there was someone at our table to fill water glasses every 5 minutes (it got annoying), we had a hard time getting our server's attention and she forgot my drink order. My wife orders catering and takeout from this place all the time and also goes there for happy hour and takes our kids there for dinner sometimes. The owner, Pushpinder, is always extremely accommodating and kind. The service is great, food is delicious and with the recent remodeling, the ambiance is wonderful too. Best Indian place in the area, hands down! I love the buffett. Also, make sure to ask for garlic non bread, it's extra but it's worth it.
