This place does not peel the chick peas...many Indian dishes have chick peas in them and unpeeled? Absolutely disgusting, some factions of Indian culture really frown upon this but at this restaurant? They have NO idea that chick peas get peeled. I guess its just the region of India they are from OR they are just far too lazy to do it. The service really showed that, we had two other people come serve and wait on us because our waiter took forever. We made no issue about anything until the very end of the meal when I pointed out to the third waitress that the chick peas were not peeled. She seemed aghast at the idea and THAT was all I needed to know that this place is terrible. Peel your chick peas guys, put in the effort, who knows what else you guys are HALF assing in the kitchen. I ordered Lamb Roganjosh and Chicken Tikka masala. Both dish had good flavor but... what a waste of animal. The chicken taste like American chicken - those kind that had a double decker chicken breast and barely any flavor, but dry. The lamb cube is also dry. Maybe consider changing your supplier? On the other hand, I loved the garlic Nann. Mango Lassi had really good flavor, but overly sweet. I'm not Indian myself but I feel this may not be a place many Indians would actually come. Horrible rude service! We get Indian at least once every 2 weeks from Shere but after the rude customer service we will not be returning. Samosas are good (little on the salty side sometimes). Overall food is a little bland but it's the best Indian that is close to us. Today we Ordered takeout via door dash- 3 orders ofSamosa and rice. Order was delivered but just rice. I understand this is not the restaurant's fault so we were credited for the order via door dash. Ordered again but this time for pickup. Online order said it was in progress. Husband went to pick it up and was greeted by a rude woman who informed him they were not taking samosa orders. Now i wonder if they never even gave the dasher the samosas. From the outside looking in, there wasn't many people in restaurant but this place is very professional and authentic(in my opinion). On a nice evening last week, I was meeting a friend from Delaware in the area since Media is a nice halfway point for us between Philly and where she lives. I had picked out a new place to eat and was on my way when I got a call: "Kristen, I just walked by the place you sent me. It doesn't look great. We're not eating there. I found another place instead - meet me there." I laughed, hung up, and followed her directions to Shere-E-Punjab. Although I still say my original choice of dining establishment would have been fine, I'm glad we ended up at this restaurant. Our meal was great. We tried: -Garlic Naan: Hot, buttery (ghee-y?), and delicious! Fair amount for $3. Would definitely recommend. We couldn't decide if we wanted chicken or shrimp, so we got both to share. -Punjabi Tikka Masala: This is listed as their signature dish. It was very flavorful and the chicken was well-cooked. Recommended. -Shrimp Tikka Masala: Great size on the shrimp, although we could've eaten a couple more. This was definitely a quality-over-quantity dish. Also recommended. A note on the portion sizes: My friend and I both agreed that the portions here are slightly smaller than similar restaurants nearby. That said, I really didn't mind because I thought the quality was great. I don't think you're going to go home with leftovers if you share the same amount we did, but you should still leave feeling satisfied. Just because we *could* have eaten more doesn't mean we necessarily should have. ;) The waiter did let us know he could bring us more rice if we chose as well. Plus, we had room for dessert on our walk around Media after dinner. The service was pretty good. We had two different staff members besides our waiter stop by the table to ask how the meal was. We eat here regularly. The food is amazing and comes in great portions. They often have live music or some kind of event going on. If you like spicy, I suggest asking for medium. In Media, PA, every Wednesday evening from May until September, the streets are closed to traffic and the restaurants move their tables outside for the annual "Dining Under the Stars" event (http://visitmediapa.com/diningunderthestars). We were only in Media/Philadelphia for two days, and luckily Wednesday was one of them, so we were able to partake in the event. Surprisingly, Media has quite a lot of restaurants to choose from, of all different ethnicities. We were a group of four and each of us had different tastes, but we finally settled on Indian, something we could all agree on. I no longer remember everything that we ordered, but I do recall everything being delicious. We ordered several entrees and side dishes to share (we ordered far more then we needed!), a bottle of wine, as well as a couple of drinks, and the bill was really reasonable, around $100 or so. Can two places hold the Gold Standard for Indian lunch buffets? In this case the answer is yes as these folks have two locations; Media and Drexel Hill. The lovely wife and I have enjoyed lunch at the Drexel Hill location many many times and visited this location a few times including once for dinner. The lunch buffet is absolutely amazing. When many many folks of Indian decent, or who have Indian spouses, or who have lived in India all say this is the real deal you know it's something special. During the week it's 10 bucks and on the weekend it goes up a buck or two. It doesn't get much better than that. If you are a vegetarian you will be in heaven. If you are a flesh eater you'll find chicken and lamb choices. There is no Naan on the buffet here. They automatically bring you a basket of hot, fresh, fluffy, deliciousness. The wife thinks the Korma sauce is to die for and I agree. We have always found everything appropriately spiced. Both locations have great Yelp reviews but the Drexel Hill locations are a little higher. For me it's not the food it's the seating. This location can be a little tight. The Drexel Hill location gives you a little more room. If you are in town around lunch time any day of the week these folks are a must try. read more

Ordered take out, everything was warm, well cooked and I thought a decent serving amount. Very good, medium spice versus mild spice is noticeably different. The tandoori chicken wings were very tender and flavorful. Their paneer was dense, naan thin and a bit crisp. The palak paneer was thick with spinach. Ordered from Uber Eats and this review will be based upon the restaurant. To preface: we are huge Indian food people and some of my best friends are from India, and I am quite critical of Indian food places. Although the food was pretty decent here, it did take forever to prepare! I submitted the order at around 5 pm and it said about 60mins to get the delivery...I didn't get the delivery until 7:30 pm!! As I was watching the bars, it took nearly 2 hours to prepare and cook the meal. Of course, when we got it, it was barely lukewarm. The vegetable samosas were okay (they probably would have been better hot) and I don't even know what happened with the chicken tikka masala we ordered. It was spicy like we asked (which we are used to eating), but this type of spice was a whole new level. I got heartburn when I NEVER got heartburn. I ended up eating the entire dish though and did find the sauce to be oddly sweet. I also had the garlic naan and it was definitely not the best I've ever had. But, then again, it was probably better piping hot. Definitely would not order delivery from here again. Would I come back? Eh, probably not. read more

This food is amongst the best Indian food that I've had in the United States... and their buffet is by far the best Indian buffet that I've ever had anywhere. I was in the Navy and spent a lot of time hanging around parts of the world with great Indian food and let me tell you that this joint ranks out there with the best. And my wife, who lived in India for almost a year and traveled all over India and climbed Everest... well, she knows Indian food, cappish? And she loved this place as well. When we first went there, she tasted the food and immediately guessed what part of India it came from... the staff was amazed! We've had both a la carte and the amazing buffet, which has quite a diverse variety of vegetarian, poultry, lamb, salads and wonderful sweets as well. I personally don't come to this location as often as I should. Reason being, the location in Drexel Hill is closer. Simple enough. I do consider the Drexel Hill location one of the finest Indian restaurants in the area. Today, i was kicking around Media, and the wife wanted their buffet for takeout. So I stopped by and filled up a container with Navrattan Korma, Malai Kofta, Seeth Kabob, and a Samosa. They wrapped some hot naan in foil and off I was. Total price was just under $12 for the container. I will say this... I hadn't done buffet take out from Shere-E-Punjab before. I've done it from similar places. Maybe it's my eyes, but I felt the container they gave me was a bit smaller than others. Considering the buffet price tends to be higher here than other places, I have to raise an eyebrow. Taste-wise, in my mind they still got it as I got to sample what the wife didn't eat. But for some reason, the wife didn't like the Malai Kofta as much as she usually does. Maybe this chef just didn't make it a certain way. I was OK with it. This place gets 4 stars then. If my Mumbai born wife doesn't like something Indian as much, I have to factor that in. I will assure you that 99% of the time she loves it here, and so do I. Plus, it's a little cramped here. But that's just Media I suppose. If you wish, go to the Drexel Hill location. Better parking, easier seating, and just as good food. read more

I will not be patronizing this restaurant if the same bartender is there. I have been going to this restaurant since it opened, approximately 10 years ago. The food has never been anything aside from delicious. The service had always been nothing less than friendly and professional. Last night my friends and I went here to celebrate my friends 30th birthday. The bar was empty when we arrived around 11 and I had never seen the bartender who was working there before. My friends and I were not being disruptive or disrespectful in any way. The bartender decided to stop serving one of my friends I was with all night after 2 drinks. We were all disappointed and upset and it had a negative impact on the upbeat mood. We all had no idea why he decided not to serve her any more drinks, yet we continued to be served alcohol. My friend even asked the bartender while making their signature Martini what he used because she realized the menu implied it was made with Grey Goose and he put Stoli vodka instead. I never thought I would change my 5 star review to Shere E Punjab, and I will not be recommending this place anymore for the bar service. I have eaten at the Glenn mills site twice and three times in Media. I prefer the service in Media. At both sites, I really enjoyed the food. Highly recommend the papdi chat as an appetizer. The various naans are tasty. My favorite is the sweet pashawari naan and the onion kulcha. Since I'm not big on highly spicy foods, I love that you can order the level of heat in your food. The beer selection and descriptions rival those at Quotations and Pinocchio's! Service is good. There's one server who is almost always there - she's stellar! I'm a huge fan of spicy. I started out weak but I feel like I have a decent resistance to anything high on the Scoville Scale with the exception of the hottest ghost pepper sauces. I walked into this dimly lit establishment and decided to sit and their bar area. I was craving curry chicken... The place was fairly empty for a Saturday but the Yelp reviews reassured me that this is decent Indian food. The bar tender quickly set me up with the cold Coors Light but I assured him that I did not need a menu. "Curry Chicken, extra spicy...throw in some Naan too". He seemed to hesitate for some reason but none the less put my order in. Shortly after, a gentleman came up to me to clarify that I did in fact ask for this curry to be extra spicy. I confirmed and sealed my fate. I shook hands with the devil. This was some of the spiciest chicken curry I have ever eaten...but not unfairly spicy. I seem to have a problem finding an Indian restaurant that has tender chicken but this place got it right. Each bite was a fiery inferno of deliciousness. I chatted for a little while with someone who seemed to be the manager. He told me about how they grow their own chilli peppers and some other ingredients as well. Oh, and the naan was fluffy and perfect for dipping. I haven't eaten Indian food too many times unfortunately but this place ranks up there as some of the best I've had. read more

So Shere-E-Punjab may be a staple for Swarthmore students venturing out for more exciting fare than Renato's and Cheng Hing's, and the food is pretty decent, but as previous reviews have intimated, they have some serious service issues. When they started offering delivery, my friends and I rejoiced - finally, decent food that didn't require a car for pickup! We ordered $40+ worth of different dishes, including several orders of naan (their naan is admittedly v. good, if overpriced). That was only the beginning of our adventure. Well over an hour later, we called, desperate, plaintive, begging for our food. They assured us that no, they had not forgotten, and yes, it would be coming. When? we asked. Soon, they replied. We could extract no further details. It was a full thirty minutes more before the delivery guy finally limped onto campus (understand that the restaurant is a ten minute drive away, fifteen max). After bestowing a generous tip on the good man who finally alleviated our starvation, we headed inside for a feast. We soon discovered that we had only received one order of naan, but been charged for everything we ordered. I don't know about the rest of you, but I pretty much hate eating Indian food if I can't scoop my food with bread. We called the restaurant, and they said they were sorry, all of their people had left and they could not come bring us the naan we were missing, but they would write down our names and info, and the next time we ordered they would give us the bread we paid for for free and a discount on the meal to repay us for the trouble. Well, maybe I'm an idiot for not getting something in writing, but I think you can guess what happened the next time I called and asked for my already-paid-for naan and discount. Not only did they not make good on the deal, they were nothing short of rude in responding to the suggestion that anyone at their establishment might ever have made such a promise. Now, their eggplant is amazing, their mango lassies are good and their chickpeas are extremely tasty in all forms. But they are unquestionably overpriced and poorly organized.
