This place has great food. I have eaten in the restaurant many times and have experienced great service, but my best experiences are when events are catered by this restaurant. By catered, I mean they provided food. They don't provide waiter services. I liked the catered events the most because I always got to try a large variety of foods and they have a fairly extensive menu. In the last three years, I've only gone to Bombay Mahal once and received terrible service. Even though Shere Punjab is a few clocks farther than Bombay, it is ALWAYS worth the walk. Their food is well seasoned, well cooked, and has never been a disappointment. Their management and waitstaff are also very attentive and accommodating. My friend once needed to cater an event, but she did not receive school funding for it until after the event had already occurred. The owner was nice enough to allow her to pay it at a later date even though the food had already been eaten (Keep in mind that she has used this restaurant once or twice before for catering). read more

I have been to both Indian restaurants in Brunswick on multiple occassions now and I can safely say that I prefer Bombay Mahal. While there are many similarities Bombay Mahal has consistent good food. Shere Punjab has been all over the spectrum from amazing to poor. Also, I have found the service at Bombay Mahal to be a little bit better as well. read more

When you walk through the door the curry and the smell of basmati permeate your sense of smell; we were quickly seated in the "window seat" and ordered from a gentleman who is the owner. We ordered some mint raita to accompany our meal along with the mint chutney, mango chutney (which was a puréed chutney) along with pickled red peppers which were a bit spicy - a nice accompaniment to the methi poori/papadum which was brought to our table upon arriving - which was laced with fenugreek seeds. For the main courses we ordered tandoori chicken that came with a wonderfully, warmly spiced sauce on the side; served on a cast iron serving dish, the base hosted a nice amount of onions and green peppers, topped with the wonderfully marinated Tandoori chicken, cilantro and a wedge of lemon to squeeze over all; we also ordered the chicken tikka masala - a must have - the spices were melded so nicely and the flavor was really superb. We also ordered the garlic naan - how else are you going to get every tasty bit of sauce off your plate? The spice levels are 1-10 and since we had never been we started with a level 3; pretty sure I will increase it next time to 4. The service was wonderful, the food was comforting on a brisk sunny day. They have a lunch menu with a nice selection of choices ranging from $7.95 to $8.95. I look forward to returning soon and expanding my choices of the extensive menu which I have every confidence will taste as great as our first visit! read more

What a magical emotional journey of flavor. Went here on Christmas day and was welcomed with warmth and kindness. We got an array of food because the menu had an enormous amount of wonderful options. We got crispy bread with condiments for free in the beginning which were absolutely delicious. We ordered lamb curry at a level 6 heat and it was so rich in flavor I started crying of happiness while eating. I got the lamb naan which also made me feel like I was in a euphoric state while tasting it. Warm, juicy, buttery, soft and with crunch here and there and the LAMB oh so tasty! The coconut soup tasted like a fluffy pillow of dreams. The garlic naan was the most flavorful of garlic oh it was mind blowing! The chicken Marsala literally melted in our mouths and the rice cooked perfectly fluffy. Please eat at this restaurant, if you don't you are missing out of the best cuisine! Wow, this place is way better than 5 or 6 indian joints I've been to in the SF bay area. I had the 'meaty mix' of different meats that came with an excellent dipping sauce. I have eaten twice now at Shere Punjab and been impressed. The food has come pretty quickly both times for us, and we like the ambience of the small space. They serve really spicy food unless you make it clear you don't want it, and that is really nice to find in Maine. I've had lamb saag and saag paneer, both rich and delicious, fish curry with a good spicy sauce, and really good pakora and samosa-type appetizers. The garlic naan is fantastic. read more

We travel through Maine on our way to Nova Scotia every summer and lodgings and restaurants are perennial issues there -- except in Brunswick, where there are now three great restaurants and Shere Punjab is one among them. The decor is simple yet appealing, and our service was prompt, friendly but unassuming. The sampler platter was a great appetizer, and was served with various homemade chutneys - in fact that was the best thing about this restaurant -- while it served what could be called standard northern Indian fare, each of the dishes, but especially the appetizers, tasted as if they were made by an Indian grandmother or something, they were that rustic, simple and yet idiosyncratic in a very good way. For our mains we had vegetarian items from the lunch menu: saag alloo, vegetable korma and channa massala, all of which had individual spicings and which betrayed attention to detail. The heat-meter of 1-10 (with 10 being Vindaloo) was perfect, as we like it just a bit less than Vindaloo and 8 was perfect for us. All in all, highly recommended, especially for Maine -- we live near Toronto, where there are hundreds of Indian restaurants, and this is one of the most solidly appealing, if admittedly unadventurous, among them. read more

Shere Punjab is the "newer" of the two and I stayed with Bombay Mahal when Shere Punjab opened just out of habit. We were referred here by a local inn operator who is Indian. We tried the Malai Kofta which is awesome! It was vegetable balls in a wonderful, complex, flavorful sauce with ginger and other spices. We also had the mixed vegetable paratha which is like a dense naan which is a thin flavorful filling of Indian cheese and veggies. It was a nice change from seafood. read more

We decided to go check out Brunswick, ME before heading to Freeport for a day of outlet shopping when we came upon this restaurant and read the reviews. Glad we did! Daughter ordered the chicken curry Medium. I ordered the Chana Masala just below medium and hubby ordered the Palak Aloo. We also ordered the Paneer Naan. Daughter liked the chicken curry but thought it was a little too spicy. Thank goodness, she had the mango lassi! Hubs liked Palak Aloo a lot. He said words cannot describe how much he liked it. I love my Chana Masala. The Paneer naan was fresh and great! At first the wrong order came out but we didn't realize it. The owner came over and asked if it tasted sweet and I said yes. He took it away and gave us the correct order. After that, he came back and asked if there was potato in the Palak Aloo! He was funny! Service was very friendly.
