Came back to eat in since the change of ownership. Service was prompt and friendly. I just wished that the AC worked a little better. I had the Thai noodle soup with beef. I know, only a crazy Asian would eat soup when it's 90 degrees outside. But the soup was fantastic, with flavorful broth, and the rice noodles were bouncy and chewy. BF had the shrimp with mixed vegetables, good flavor. Then, we shared a chicken larb salad, 2 stars spicy. It was tasty, but the spiciness is considered mild for me and it was just too much lime and not enough fish sauce and I couldn't taste the toasted rice powder. But, it satisfied the craving. Vacationing mid-coast, found reviews on Asian cuisine in the area pretty disappointing. Wife and I saw good reviews on Siam Thai and checked it out. The exterior is pretty depressing (with cracked pavement) and contradicted by our experience. I will say that the aesthetic was more like a brew pub than Asian, but no matter. Our server arrived immediately for drink orders. I was thrilled that Maine Lunch was on tap. The server was friendly and kind, though accented her English was very good. The food itself was excellent. We started with crab rangoon, very crisp and loaded with tasty filling. I ordered the drunken noodles with beef while she went for pad thai. Both dishes were excellent, flavorful and fresh. Service continued to be prompt and welcoming. We appreciated that we could easily see the kitchen working, and everything (including the restrooms!) was spotless. Reviews noting limited seating were off, probably seats 50-60 (though only about 6-8 diners on a Saturday evening). They seem to do a big takeout and delivery business. A picky friend of mine recommended this restaurant, so that automatically caught my attention. I looked it up on YELP and noticed a fellow Yelper Lori S. had great things to say. I had to try it. It's in a great location - right off 295 and 196. Easy to find. Parking - This restaurant shares a very large parking lot with a couple of businesses, however there is plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant. Which I LOVE! Inside it's super spacious and it could easily accommodate a party of 6-8. They can move tables together, where half would be in chairs and others on booth seating. The menu is great. Has some traditional Thai food options and so much more! You can order online for take-out as well. Some of our favorites: Crab Rangoon, Edamame, Thai Crispy Vegetable Rolls, Pork Dumplings (dainty/crispy and delicious). Thai fried rice, Pork or Chicken Kra-Pow, Combo Thai Fried Rice, and MANGO STICKY Rice for dessert - YUMMMMMMMM. While I have had the entrees and appetizers at other restaurants, for some reason the food tastes so fresh here and not greasy at all. Its flavors are bright and not just "salted". In the 3 times I have had dinner here, it's always so consistent. It's my favorite Asian restaurant in this area. The portions are good as well, most times we have been here, someone has had a takeout container of leftovers. The service here is nice. They are quick on their feet and always with a smile. Wow! We had tried take out from here and finally went in. Very friendly staff and beautiful plates! The Chicken Satay was perfect, very moist, tender, and well seasoned chicken, and the peanut sauce was smooth and delicious! The Pad Thai was very good, though just a bit more sweet than others I have had. My husband enjoyed the Pineapple Fried Rice. The portions are large, so I get to enjoy it again today! The only thing that stopped me from 5 stars was time. There were only 3 tables occupied, and it took a long time to start getting food. First impressions - OH YUM!! We had several dishes and everyone loved what they ordered and the portions were very good, as we took leftovers home. The service was very pleasant. The atmosphere was casual and a very quaint restaurant. They do have outside seating as well, and a bar, for those looking for a drink with their meal. And even though we were all full, we decided to try dessert and oh yeah, glad we did. Lave Cakes are so cute delicious and just the right amount. The Mango with Sticky Rice, served warm and I'm not a big fan of Mango, but I tried a bite, and it was amazing!! Now I am big on coconut flavor and their Coconut Rice Pudding, not only was it adorably served (maybe I was supposed to share, since there was 4), but again, served warm and down right delicious!!! TLDR Excellent Thai. Equals/Rivals my favorite place in nearby town. House Rice; Chicken Pad Thai; Red Curry (with Tofu) all Excellent! Dumplings - just decent (4/5). OK in full disclosure, we just got takeout here - so do factor that in when reading any review or when you leave a review. I feel like almost anything is better at the restaurant. After saying that, it says a ton about this place that the 3 mains we got were all excellent! I got the Red Curry with Tofu (something that pairs well together even for us meat eaters - at least I find). This was made perfectly - I set the request for low on the hot scale since I was traveling with the gf who doesn't care for spicy food and I can have things pretty hot or with low heat and enjoy them both equally as long as it has a good flavor...and this curry didn't dissapoint. Also so many Thai places charge extra for a little thing of rice - which is need imo. Siam Thai didn't do that - a huge plus for them. PLEASE DON'T CHANGE THIS - it's just petty. Ok my girlfriend loves house fried rice when we go out for Thai food. I feel like it's pretty basic but you know what, this place killed it. Only downside, and this is with a lot of places these days, way too many peas! What is it with peas in Asian Dishes in the last decade?!?!? I don't remember so many peas years ago? Is this just filler like corn is for the American diet? I don't know...but in any case it was a good dish - in fact I'm prob going to steal some of her leftovers after I finish this review. Finally, we almost always split an order of Chicken Pad Thai - and def when we are trying a new place so we can judge the place properly. Very, very good Pad Thai. I got it with the peanuts and NO SPICE, again for the gf's sake. Let me add one of my favorite places to get Thai up in Maine is very close to this restaurant (but in Bath) and they make their Pad Thai super sweet... I'm glad Siam Thai doesn't do that as a standard, but I love the other places version as well. In fact I feel like we cheated on that place by trying this place, but we had to know...which was better. Well this place held it's own for both Pad Thai and Thai Food in general. I would call this a split decision...based on the takeout. Perhaps on another trip we will have to do a side by side comparison by getting takeout from both...but both places get a 5/5 for me. Note: we did get pan fried dumplings too. We are spoiled by a place near home that is legendary so it didn't suprise us that these were small and fell a little short. A relatively new restaurant, they said. I had the basil fried rice (that I love and almost never find), Di had a green curry; we opened with fried spring roll and closed with mango/sweet rice. My rice had more onions than I like, and Di the same with green peppers, but they were cut big so we just pushed them to the side. Really good food and very nice people... recommended. read more

This recently opened place was recommended to us by two knowledgeable friends, and it did not disappoint. I should also add that while the Thai iced tea and dessert were not cheap, the entrees were generous and moderately priced. The menu went nicely beyond the typical "curry and noodle" sections, offering a number of additional entrees. K had the Pad Thai which differs everywhere we try it. This version was light on peanuts and eggs, but came with plenty of shrimp and a lovely fairly typical flavor. I had the "Spicy Cashew Nut" a dish based on fried chicken. The portion was quite large, and consisted of chunks of fried white meat chicken, pineapple, onions, cashews, and a light - and lightly applied - savory sauce. The chicken was crispy when it got to me, and stayed that way thanks to the sparing application of sauce. Though despite the 2 peppers in the dish description on the menu, it had no heat. A request to the server brought the revelation that we would have to ask for heat - the server had not mentioned it. The request also brought a surprise - a shaker of crushed red peppers similar to what you'd find in a pizza joint. But, they were fresh, potent, and did the job nicely. The surprise was the daily special dessert - "macha crepe cake" with ice cream. We would have come for this dish alone - the cake was many thin crepes piled up like a stack of pancakes with thin layers of creamy green tea infused filling, then sliced cake-style. This was served with a large scoop of Shain's (!!!) ice-cream, a ripe strawberry and a healthy dollop of whipped cream from a can. The entire ensemble was light, delicious, and well ... we'd order it again in a heartbeat. Service was pleasant and attentive, though not particularly fast. The server mentioned that the owners also own other Thai restaurants in the area, one being Bankok Garden. At least from this one meal - we prefer this one. Definitely a welcome addition to the Topsham Fair mall area. read more

This restaurant should be MEGA. Easy to find location, but tucked away mainly for local traffic. Once inside the restaurant you will be impressed with the lay out. Cozy and inviting and not crammed with tables. The food was amazing, served directly from the kitchen; the food stayed steaming hot for another 10 minutes after being served!!! The food is great here and the service is good too. I've only done takeout but I've had two good experiences. The only thing that was odd is, I got the same thing both times. The first time I ordered spice level medium and got basically no spice at all. So the second time I got hot and spice (the next option) and it was spicer than I cared for. Badabing badaboom ! Another interesting Asian restaurant in our area. This one is now and features a mix of Thai, Laotian and Vietnamese. Our first visit was very favorable. So here goes the review. Disclaimer. Any critique is only meant as a suggestion and solely our opinion. For an appetizer we shared the steamed bun. It was beautiful in presentation and perfectly balanced mix of bun, veg and meat. We wished it was served with Sriracha, hoisin or any other dipping sauce but sadly it was not. With a dipping sauce...ultimate perfection. We ordered several entrees. The beef pho, the mango curry and the khao soi beef. The pho was non traditional and possibly more Laotian than Vietnamese but tasty nonetheless. The mango curry was an exquisite blend of mango, coconut milk and curry. A must try if sampling the curry dishes and something not on most local Thai menus. The pies de resistance was the khao soi. This is a traditional Laotian noodle soup and this is the first time we have seen it on a menu in Maine. It is a slow cooked rich broth with super tender short ribs served over egg noodles and crunchy fried noodles. Served with toppings including pickled red onion, pickled veg and hot chili oil. This was a special treat. Desert was the sticky sweet rice and mango. A few comments/suggestions. The pho really needed to be accompanied by garnishes...cilantro, jalapeno slices, onion, hoisin/sriracha, and bean sprouts, etc. Sian Thai has incredible potential and if they are this good shortly after opening we wish them the best of success.
