Ever since they switched to Mauzy the service level has gone downhill. Called three times in a week to see when my appointment was, nobody could bother to call back. Finally the day is the appointment arrives. Supposed to come from 10-12. It's now 7:33pm and they have not arrived. At noon I was told it would be 1pm probably. At 1:30 I was told 5pm. At 5:35 I was told they were finishing up the job so no need to worry it would be soon. No more ETA. In fact the daytime dispatcher has gone home. They were able to upsell a new water heater to the previous folks so they prioritized that over my appointment or giving reasonable timeframe. Then I was blamed for thinking I had an appointment. They don't make appointments. Just estimated times of arrival. The text even had the date wrong. 3/1 instead of 1/1. Had to call to confirm that too. Then blamed because I had the gall to want my install done the same day I made the appointment for. "You're the one who wants it installed today." Sherlock plumbing was amazing! Great staff and loved Bob who answered the phones, now that mauzy plumbing took over its HORRIBLE! The employees are shady, showing up with different vans and uniforms. One guy was drunk when he came the guy today was off. He quoted me $300 for labor to fix our waterless tank because the parts were under warranty so it was just labor then when I went to sign it said $450 so he called the manager who told him he was still inputting and to quote me $900. I told the guy you said all in $300 for labor, no way am I paying anymore so then he changed the bid to $300. Beware of Sherlock plumbing. We will keep them for AC because the old team still comes out but time to switch for plumbers! What a shame. read more

So really starting to question my loyalty to Sherlock HVAC. I've been a "VIP" customer since 2016 when they installed a new A/C and Furnace for me. I've always depended on them for annual or semi-annual "time-ups" which I appreciate. However, today I am somewhat disappointed. Here is the story, more than a week ago, A/C shut off with an error code of E74 on the Nest. Appointment was set for the following week (which was last Friday). On Thursday, the day before my appointment, the A/C came back in with no more error code. I immediately called Sherlock and the girl on the phone basically told me with no error code, not much he can do except charge me $99 and call them back if it happens again. Fast forward to today. I just get back from the store and every smoke detector starts going off. I go upstairs and notice water leaking through the smoke detector at the top of the stairs. I immediately think this A/C related and sure enough I go in the attic and see water actively leaking from the unit. I called Sherlock and the guy that answered took my info and told me he would forward it to Superior along with a description of the problem. I specifically asked for a call back either way so I know what to expect. I wait an hour and no call back. I call back again....same thing. The guy takes my info and will forward to the supervisor. Here it is at midnight with not a peep from Sherlock. Sherlock: Why have someone answer the phone on weekends if your not going to follow up with the customer??? I get it that you might not get out to my house, but a call back would nice and professional and helps the customer manage expectations in case I need to find a 24 hour service. I had a VIP membership. This entitled me to 3 checkups a year A/C Heating and Plumbing. It was difficult to get an appointment because of time they allowed for potential emergencies. I have my appt for heating check up. I discovered disappointingly that items listed to be checked were in fact not covered. My first appointment for the plumbing evaluation was scheduled for Aug 12 times 12-4. After waiting all afternoon I received a message at 3:52pm stating they could not keep my appointment. So I called and rescheduled an appointment for Aug 19th 12-4. Shockingly at 4:04 NO ONE showed up NOR was there any phone, text message. Now they had wasted 8 hours of my time and on the 19th didn't have the courtesy to even call to cancel. When I called their office on the 19th they were clueless. Sherlock did an amazing job installing my AC three years ago. My furnace blower stopped working thought I would give them a call. Tech came out, named Andrew. He was polite, and respectful when he started. He told me the Blower needs replaced, it is under warranty, and but the labor warranty ended last month. I figured that, and was prepared for that news. He told me the Cost of Labor will be $2950!!! I asked him how long it will take him, he said about an hour. I said that is crazy, the part is free, but the labor is $3000 an hour? He said he doesn't make the prices, he gets those from the office. I told him I was offended, and think his company is ripping me off, he said understands, and pretty much agreed with me that I can replace the whole furnace for the same amount. I told him I was not going to do pay that much for an hour of work, I understand profit, but this is ridiculous. I asked who can explain why it costs $3000 for this, he said my manager. I asked to speak with him, he says he can call me in 72 hours to go over it with me. I then got really offended, why no one can tell me why they want $3000 of my money within 72 hours of asking me for it. I told him, well, if that is the case, tell your manager to F* off, if you can't talk to a customer to start the work. That is crazy. He asked for $99 for the trip and diagnostic, I asked for the diagnostic, he says he can't give it to me until I paid him. I paid him, and asked for the diagnostic. He says he wasn't going to give it to me because I was a Di*K. I then told him to he needs to give it to me so I can contact somone who can do the work. He then called the office and asked them to send me the diagnostic and that I was being a real big di*k while standing next to me. They incentivize these technicians to come out here and load up a bunch of items to replace at an absurd cost. To replace an AC fan motor $2K is absurd. ***NEW MANAGEMENT Please avoid this company*** this was once a ethical company but unfortunately when the founding owner sold it last year the customer service has greatly declined and they are charging well over market value without any justification given. They overcharged my elderly father for an A/C condense/coil replacement that should have been $7-8k, instead it cost my father 13.8k. The job was never finished and the company avoided my weekly phone calls. It took a month to get a call from the service manager, CJ, in which he lied to me multiple times about cost. I then received an email from his manager a month later but communication just stopped when I tried to contact him back. It's a shame that the Sherlock name is being dismantled so quickly. This review is for Sherlock's service department only. Their sales and installation teams are quite good, or at least they were 7 years ago when I had them install a replacement heating and AC system in my home in Carlsbad. In fact, up to this point, I had enthusiastically recommended Sherlock at every opportunity. The problem: Once they have you as a customer, they treat you like an idiot cash cow. The short version of my experience with Sherlock service is that I went 43 days without AC while being repeatedly ignored and lied to. I eventually let them do a warranty replacement at more than twice the going rate so I would not have to start the warranty replacement procedure over again with a more transparent and reasonably priced company. If you're interested in the longer, detailed story, here it is: June 12. 2023: Sherlock technician found that my AC compressor was not working during a routine check. Could not determine a cause, so ordered a controller board. June 15: Installed the board, but the problem remained. They decided to replace the entire compressor. June 15 - July 6: I communicated many times asking when the unit would be fixed and was simply told that "these things take time", and that they would let me know when the had secured the warranty replacement. July 6: Got an estimate for $5,461.00. I asked why it cost so much to do a replacement covered by warranty, and how long the job was likely to take. I was told it would take less than a day. I pointed out that in that case, they were charging me nearly $1,000 per hour and requested a breakout of how much I was paying for labor, parts and material. They did say that the entire cost of the replacement compressor was not covered by the manufacturer. I later found out that this was a lie. July 7: Sherlock told me they do flat rate pricing and that it was too complicated to explain. I'm an intelligent adult who used to do tech repair work, so I believe I could have understood, but they refused to break out any cost elements. July 10: Sherlock finally admitted that the quote was for labor and materials only. I pointed out that if materials were $400 ( a generous estimate, I think) they were still charging over $800/hour, and that seemed excessive. They offered to have the operations manager call me and I accepted. July 10 - 14: After several follow-ups to find out why I had still not heard from the operations manager for nearly a week and getting no real explanation, I found contact information for one of the company founders and sent a message asking her to intervene on my behalf. She did not respond directly, but a few hours later (5:36 on a Friday night) the Ops manager did call. He also refused to break out costs and told me he had many expenses, including paying excellent salaries, insurance, etc. He also told me it costs Sherlock $1,000 just to send a truck out (I have no proof, of course, but that sounds like a gross exaggeration). I pointed out that every company has those expenses and that I had a quote from another well-established company to do the job for $1,728. He asked me to send that quote and told me he would work on it over the weekend. I sent to quote. Afternoon of July 17: So much for working on it over the weekend - I got a text from an admin Monday afternoon asking me to send the quote again. I did so. July 18: Another text from an admin person saying the new quote amount was $3,822.70. Even though this is more than twice the going rate, I agreed because starting the warranty replacement procedure from the beginning with the more reasonably priced company would have entailed even more delays. July 28: AC is finally fixed after almost 7 weeks. 6.5 man hours expended at a cost to me of $588.10/hour. If I had accepted the original quote, the price would have been $840.15/hour. Forbes.com says 'Replacing an AC compressor costs between $900 and $2,900, with an average price of $1,900, including parts and labor". In my case, the parts were free and they still charged twice that! Indeed.com reports that the average base wage of an HVAC technician in San Diego is $32.60/hour, with a high of $52.18/hour. In my opinion, Sherlock is using "flat rate pricing" as camouflage for price gouging it's customers. read more

I am so glad that Sherlock has sold their company. Their customer service was terrible. They gave the impression that I would be getting great customer service and be treated like a loyal client should be treated. Unfortunately I bought into their sales pitch and purchased my entire system from them. As soon as they cashed my check they made excuses for the mistakes they made and put me on the back burner. They promised to coordinate with the city to get the system passed. Nope. No help. After staying home all day waiting for a technician to show up for an appointment that I had and he didn't show I finally called the office and was told he won't be coming. I spent the next 15 minutes recounting my tale of woe and how I had 0 confidence in his company. He patiently listened and then thanked me for giving him my feedback. He promised he'd use my comments to do what was necessary to improve the customer's experience. He asked that I give them another opportunity to serve our home. I'd advise against Sherlock Plumbing, Heating & Air We recently contracted Sherlock Plumbing Heating & Air to install a new 5 ton electric heat pump at our house and while the unit functions well unfortunately the company that installed it does not. They failed to perform any load calculation to account for adding additional electrical appliances to our house and as a result if other appliances are running it will trip a circuit breaker. When contacted for a solution to this it took several weeks to get any sort of response other than "We're looking into it" and when we finally did discuss their initial suggestion for a fix contradicted what we initially agreed to (heat pump would connect to the critical load sub-panel which is backed up with batteries) which I declined. Their second suggestion was that we find a friend who is an electrician to troubleshoot it and fix it. At that point I realized they were useless and am now moving on to find a solution to the issue. If you choose to work with them make sure you hold them accountable otherwise they'll likely just sell you something and run. read more

My wife and I went to Costco to get a new HVAC system because ours was not working and completely useless. We scheduled a consultation with Costco whom then farmed our job request to Sherlock Plumbing, Heating and Air and met with Curtis who was knowledgeable, professional and super courteous. We found out we had a heater that was outlawed because it was prone to starting fires on roofs and our air conditioning was using illegal coolant. We decided on what to select based on many of the options Curtis outlined. Then we scheduled a time for the work to start quickly after some back and forth emails. We received the most professional, hard working service from Lead Gred who is super knowledgeable, apprentice Tony who is super technically adept and apprentice Miguel who was a very nice guy willing to learn from his coworkers expertise. All 3 came to work early, happy with a smile and always stopped to chat a little during the long days they worked and they were some of the nicest people I've ever met. I highly recommend asking for all three of them if you get your HVAC system done from Sherlock via Costco. My insurance agent told me about a discount on my homeowner's insurance if I had an automatic water shutoff valve installed. He had recently had one installed in his home by Sherlock and gave me the valve model# and the total price of the job. The price Sherlock quoted me was more than double what my agent had paid, and that was after applying a bunch of bogus "discounts". Absolutely terrible customer experience! On the day of a scheduled maintenance visit, I received a text that they were canceling my visit. This visit was in the books for approximately 5 weeks. WTF Let me begin by telling you that I purchased a new furnace/ AC unit from Sherlock about a year ago and was happy at the time with their equipment and service. NO MORE. The claim was that because of the weather, many people had non working furnaces and my appointment had to be cancelled. Well, the weather has not changed in the last 30-45 days with generally cold nights and warm days. I spoke to a supervisor at Sherlock, Jasmine. Believe me she is no princess. Her half baked excuse was idiotic and nonsensical.The offer was to reschedule a routine maintenance visit 7 weeks from today. What! My guess is that their heating/AC department is small and chronically understaffed for a variety of reasons including pay, benefits... Please keep this in mind if you are going to use Sherlock for heating/AC needs. There are many good companies in California, use someone else. They kept on texting us to make an appointment to check up on our equipments so we made an appointment prior to the holidays just in case we have some serious issues. However, last minute they text us saying they have other customers they need to attend to so they will not be able to make ours and pushing it out 3 weeks! Not even a week. They were great at educating me on what HVAC system I needed and how to think about the process of replacing my old units. Yet... When I got the quote, it had nothing to do with what we discussed. It was a single line item that listed a system that I told them I would consider. It did not include any other information (no line item details of what each part and service would cost). It did not provide any options. I called and asked for an updated quote. Rather than sending me what I asked for, they wanted to talk to me about the quote they sent. James came over and gave us the estimate for a like for like swap and a tankless water heater. Pricing was very competitive and they were willing to work with us so it was greatly appreciated! Hired them and James was able to get it installed same day! He was professional and courteous while completing it in a timely manner! I've been a "VIP" customer for a while now. It seemed as though every time they came out to do a yearly checkup that they found a load of problems wrong and wrote me up an estimate that was always over $1000. No big deal. Most of the work was easy enough to take care of myself so it didn't bother me. However, last week we ran into an issue with our water heater flame going out every couple of days. We were obviously pretty desperate and wanted it fixed right away. Sherlock came out and, without looking at anything, told me what was wrong and gave me an estimate for $900. I asked how he knew that without looking at the water heater and he said he's been doing this for 20 years and he just knows. He then tried to sell me a new water tank for $2700 saying mine was getting old (7 years). I had another plumber come out the next day and he said the burner was dirty. He cleaned it in 5 minutes and charged me the fee to come out. I've enjoyed their yearly checkups and thought it was worth the $10 / month but this seemed like a company preying on someone desperate to have hot water again. I needed a new pressure regulator valve installed in my garage. Two very nice guys came out and quoted me $1,064.00. I asked how long it would take them and they said an hour. I asked why is was so expensive and they said the valve was really good quality and then went into a song and dance about liability and what not. After they left I found the part on line was $200 and observed that the second guy just went around turning on and off the taps. So I feel only one plumber was needed. Mad at myself because I feel robbed. I feel I paid $800 for an hours work (I am sure there was some drive time involved there also). I also found an old receipt from 2012 where I paid $149 for the part and about $75 for the labor. My daughter thinks they took advantage of me as I am a single woman "of a certain age". The two guys were charming and shook my hands as they basically robbed me. With my permission. I called and said the charge was outrageous and was told it reflected their high level of knowledge. Today when the work was supposed to start, the plumber who showed had zero idea why he was there. Then when he looked at the signed estimate of the work that I provided, said the plumber who quoted the project was unlicensed, lied on his resume about being a plumber, and everything that he quoted on was not something Sherlock could do! After calling the office multiple times and not receiving a call back from the manager, I received an email saying Sherlock was not going to the work and was cancelling the contract that I had signed. TERRIBLE service from this company that they wouldn't call me directly and apologize, and instead is trying to back out of the deal. DO NOT use this company. Challenging Experience with Sherlock plumbing. Multiple Delays and Disappointments I recently had the opportunity to engage with Sherlock plumbing for the installation of my HVAC system. While I must acknowledge their provision of 0% financing for 18 months, the overall experience left much to be desired. The company encountered various obstacles throughout the process that ultimately led to unnecessary delays and a subpar outcome. To begin with, I was disappointed to learn that four individuals quit their positions during the course of the project. Don killian which over promised, under delivered. Miguel which was one of the people on the backend that was in charge of providing information to my HOA. Monica which worked with him. And other technician that left the first day of installation. This raised questions about the stability and reliability of the company's workforce, leading to concerns about the expertise of the remaining technicians assigned to my installation. Moreover, Sherlock plumbing failed to provide the necessary documentation for HOA approval in a timely manner. This negligence resulted in additional delays, causing frustration and inconvenience for me as a customer for over several months. The lack of promptness in fulfilling this vital requirement not only put the project behind schedule but also displayed a lack of professionalism and attention to detail on the part of Sherlock AC. Another issue that arose was the conduct of the company during the installation process. Despite assurances from Don that the new AC unit would operate silently, I found myself disappointed when it failed to meet my expectations. This switch-and-bait approach regarding the noise level created an unpleasant surprise that undermined my trust in the accuracy of information provided by Sherlock AC. Furthermore, Sherlock AC's inability to secure the necessary permit from IPermit the first time only exacerbated the problems. This failure on their part not only added to the already existing delays but also raised concerns about the company's overall competence and ability to navigate through bureaucratic procedures. I was also disappointed with their attempt to cross-sell additional items after the project. Initial verbal discussions with Don indicated that no further purchases would be necessary, and that included everything, including dampers and a new vent. The vent was provided, Yet the company persisted in pushing for additional items such as the dampers when they said there are no additional purchasable items and I would receive everything possible to maximize my system. This aggressive sales tactic not only breached our prior verbal agreement but also left a negative impression regarding the company's integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. I used their website to make an appointment. I made an appointment. I got an email confirmation confirming my appointment. Morning of my appointment no one shows up during the 2 hour time window. I called in and some guy told me that their website doesn't work how it should and even though they saw I had made an appointment, no one was going to make it. They "we're going to call me" but they never did. Considering I had to change my work schedule to accommodate this false appointment, I am pissed off. We didn't end up going with this company.. but they did provide white glove service from start to finish. Our heater broke during the prior winter. They set up an appt quickly.. and sent someone out to evaluate at cost. (You pay for the consult and - if you decide to go with them - they deduct from the overall quote.) In the end, we felt the quote was a bit on the higher end.. but the evaluation did provide a spectrum of options. There was great email communication.. automated.. but nonetheless detailed with photos of the individual we would meet, etc. The individual reviewing the unit didn't seem completely knowledgeable (since we cross checked and received a second opinion).. but knew enough to identify some issues. They seemed conservative in their solutions to replace the entire system since ours was a bit dated.. which in the end could have translated into cost savings.. but we weren't ready for a complete redo of HVAC. They tried to sell us on throwing in an additional unit "since there was a sale".. which I will chalk up to strong marketing.. but precariously on the edge of being a bit too aggressive. I would recommend them for the communication, top of the line products, broad solutions.. and relatively nice guys that came out to help us. read more
