Beautiful building overlooking Central Park Our large suite was beautifully decorated in traditional decor- nice fireplace and a small kitchen. You can tell the employees take their jobs seriously (including the elevator attendants, every time I got into the elevator they would automatically know which floor I was on.) The hotel really has so much charm and the staff, everyone from the door man , the front desk receptionist, the bell man and the elevator operator and the housekeeping staff, thy all make you feel right at home. Valet parking was pricey but well worth it because it was so well integrated with the check in process. The room I stayed in was beautifully decorated and the bathrobes provided were luxurious. All great so far, ...right? Now the problem about the room was that the PTAC unit was exceptionally noisy and every time it cycled on, there was a distinct banging sound. Sleep with that kind of noise was nearly impossible. Secondly, at check in, I was told that the restaurant, Cipriani, would be serving breakfast the following morning and offered a 20% discount for hotel guests. After a difficult and relatively sleepless night due to the banging PTAC unit in my room, I learn the the restaurant can not serve coffee because their machine broke, their wait staff were not attentive and the food was barely warm. The hotel should discourage their guests from eating there in my opinion based upon my experience. By the way, the discount for my breakfast did not appear on my bill when I checked out later that morning. read more

My husband and I stayed at a suite in the Sherry Netherland for our elopement, and we had the best weekend!! The staff went above and beyond to congratulate us and wish us well. The suite was beautiful, and was a perfect backdrop for our "first look" photos. The added bonus is that it truly feels like you are staying in a piece of New York history. Built in 1927, but incorporating older pieces from the Vanderbilt mansion, the entire building is saturated with romantic beauty. We'll have to come back soon... maybe for our 1st anniversary! read more

Okay, I'll be the first to admit that while I'm most at home in my sweats and fuzzy jacket, i can also be a little ridiculous -- and thusly, take this three star w a grain of salt -- yes, the Sherry Netherland is an enjoyable respite from the city's business -- but since I'm feeling a little fussy (sitting on a plane for six hours and indulging in one too many episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker does this to me), here is my White Girl Problem review if the hotel -- While at first I was wowed by the elegance of the Sherry Netherland, with its muraled doors, walk in closet, and in-room chandeliers (this bear is a chronic swooner over such attn to detail), as my visit dragged on, the boutiquey nature of the place kind of left me desirous of a larger, well-oiled luxury experience and the charm of the Godiva chocolates, flowers, and massive room wore off. Yes, the SN is perfectly located if your trip to Nueva York centers around midtown locales, and yes, the bed is one of the most comfy I've slept in, but for a classy establishment, it needs to work on customer service. The "concierge" is just the front desk woman who was negatively helpful -- she was unable to suggest any eateries other than Cipriani, which was in the hotel (and insanely pricey, even by ny standards), and another place right around the corner...okay, I can Yelp places, NBD, but part of the pleasure of staying in a hotel revolves around having knowledgeable people around you willing to help make the stay easier/unique/delightful. Oh, and they lost my written request for two full beds as well as the extra key I had left for a certain caller to my boudoir. Amateur night. Sooooo, while the SN is gorgeous, for the money, I would head to the Peninsula, where both the rooms and the staff will make your wildest dreams come. My wife and I have always loved the Sherry and stay there every chance we get. In addition to a beautiful and iconic building, it has some of the finest service we have ever found in a hotel. The concierges and most of the staff have been there for years and are like old friends every time we go back. The food at Cipriani's restaurant in the lobby is as good as it gets in New York and you can also order it for room service. And there is no better location in the entire city than the Sherry. Impressive from start to finish. We showed up with a full car of luggage, a 2 year old, and a dog... they greeted us with smiles and gift bags for the baby and dog. Smaller room, but very well appointed and obviously had been updated and modernized recently. Our favorite hotel in NYC. The location and old world elegance is unrivaled, and Cipriano's Restaurant downstairs is a bonus. The rooms are traditionally and beautifully furnished and the housekeeping and room service is first rate. The hotel staff is professional, gracious and exceedingly friendly, with one notable exception: a clownishly rude and arrogant front deskman named Stefan. (Must be a union thing.) The Sherry-Netherland boutique hotel is situated in Midtown Manhattan on Fifth Avenue right across Grand Army Plaza. The hotel was recommended by a friend of mine and I decided to try it out. The good thing about the hotel is that once you are inside its hard to believe there is so much of noise outside. The hotel forms part of the Sherry-Netherland apartment building in which some of the upper floors have been converted into a 50 room hotel. The setting for the hotel is remarkable as the building is a vintage 1890 construction. I was given a room overlooking the plaza and Fifth Avenue and it was nice to see people throng the plaza and walk briskly on the street below. The hotel does not have a restaurant of its own but an arrangement with a private restaurateur in the same complex adequately served us. The other defining feature of the hotel is the impeccable service. The staff was so attentive and quick that I wondered whether I was in NY or elsewhere. read more

We are in NYC at least once per month and have typically stayed at the Plaza of Pierre; but we decided to try something different so we stayed at the Sherry Netherland. Big mistake. Our room was charming, in an older hotel type of way; but the staff was insulting and condescending. I am often amazed at snobby waiters and hotel workers that could never afford to be a customer of the establishment where they work; and the concierge at the Sherry-Netherland is such an individual. On our last day at the hotel, as my wife waited for me to return, she sat in the lobby and applied her lipstick. The concierge, from across the room, loudly scolded her, telling her that applying makeup in the lobby is not permitted. she told him that she is not applying make up but rather putting on lipstick so that we could go to lunch. He again, in front of a lobby full of guest, told her to stop. I have stayed at almost every 5 star hotel in NYC and have never seen anything like this. This little man was rude, condescending, and treated her as if she was a street walker who was seeking shelter in the lobby, rather than a guest in one of their prime suites. For the same money, or less, you can find a multitude of nearby hotels that actually appreciate your business. read more

We have been coming to New York for many years and have stayed in many hotels but none compare to this hotel. The fresco painting that adorns the ceiling takes you back to old Italy. The rooms are sufficient in space and if you want to splurge, upgrade to a suite where you are reminded each day why you don't want to leave this history rich establishment. I could labor more on this exquisite hotel but I must not forget the staff. From the moment you exit your transportation, you are met with such a warm welcome and it doesn't stop there. The receptionists are all so welcoming, the elevator attendants are so accommodating and everyone "cares." Before I leave, I must give a shout out to the Concierge Tammy who could never do enough for us. Peter the doorman who always had great tips and made us feel so welcomed. Last but not least was Caesar, the elevator attendant, who made the end of everyday positive. read more

Although the Sherry Netherland is pricier than most hotels at which I stay, I state--without hesitation--that it is well worth it. The quality of service is top notch, the decor and cleanliness is superb, and the location is fantastic. Located at the corner of 59th and 5th, the Sherry Netherland is recognizable by its large clock at the sidewalk. It is conveniently located catty-corner to the Plaza Hotel. I love that I can walk to a variety of shops and restaurants from the door, but the hotel doorman is also happy to assist guests who wish to catch a taxi cab. The staff of the Sherry Netherland is really what keeps us coming back here. Being known by name and greeted with "welcome back" as one exits the cab from the airport makes a striking impression. From the doormen to the elevator operators to the front desk staff, everyone is exceedingly courteous and efficient. It is a pleasure to communicate with this hotel's staff. Finally, the decor and cleanliness of the rooms is great. Unlike many hotels that are done in a cookie-cutter fashion, the rooms at the Sherry Netherland are such that returning guests are aware if they are staying in a different room from visits past. Although some rooms are more attractive than others, each room is decorated in a style that is welcoming to behold and a pleasure in which to stay. Be warned, however, that those which are less attractive are a bit quirky. None of the rooms are unpleasant in the least, but there are some strange choices in the artwork and accessories of some of the rooms. If you are fortunate enough to upgrade to a suite, the cozy sitting rooms are a delight in which to curl up with a book and a complementary soft drink. read more

If the exclusive setting on the border of Central Park is not enough of a tip-off then the gilded tiny private lobby will serve to tell you that you've arrived in part of New York's old-world society. Each of the staff on duty will be introduced to you. One of them will personally escort you up the elevator to show you your room. Be warned: they will remember your name during your entire trip! I stayed in a suite that looked like something out of a 1950's Holywood movie: a spacious, well-lit marble bathroom, an enormous bedroom by any hotel standard, and a separate sitting room, missing only Carry Grant lounging on the couch. You cannot pay for this type of privacy, since no one is getting by the staff unless they are staying in one of the rooms or apartments upstairs. I think this is my favorite NYC hotel experience of all-time. read more

Our 3rd visit and stay at The Sherry was quite different from the first two. The front desk was less than friendly upon check in; to the point of not being able to locate reservation. Yet we received an email 48 hours before reminding us of the upcoming stay. The room was nothing like our first two stays (yes we were loyal)being very tiny with leaky faucets and mold around bathtub. Often the housekeeping failed to vacuum and came so late in the day it impeded our plans to get ready for the evening. I complained once hoping to change rooms and call was not returned. So for $599 a night we felt like outcasts at an airport Motel 6. 3 stays of 8 nights each, without any hotel reward points and no loyalty was acknowledged. Wish we had never booked. A very loyal customer has been lost. read more

Right on the Southeast corner of Central Park, the hotel was great. Huge rooms by New York standards, with a kitchenette. All drinks were stocked and included in the price. Small lobby with a residential feel. Very quite, but close to everything. The room service was from Harry Cipriani and was fabulous. For the price you really can't beat it. It's the best kept secret on Central Park. Right across the street from the Plaza, but a way better value. read more

I have been a Diamond Platinum member of Preferred Hotel Group for several years now, and I decided to cash in some points on a weekend getaway to NYC over the Memorial Day weekend. I brought my mom with me (her second trip into a city I love). This was my first time staying at Sherry Netherland, and I chose if based on the excellent reviews here on Yelp! However, my experience was less than five star. Upon check in, our room wasn't ready, so we were directed to wait a moment in the lobby. Other patrons were given water as they waited, but we were not. When our room came available, we were given our keys and ushered upstairs. I should also state that we were given an inside view room. I asked for an upgrade as a Preferred Member, but I was told there was no availability. When we made it to our room (715), we noticed it was a handicapped accessible room. The room itself was spacious and clean. The bed and pillows were divine. The bathroom had fresh flowers, and there was a box of chocolates and a hand written note from the CEO. This was a lovely and appreciated touch. Turn down service was at 7 pm (which we declined), but we were given bottled water and Godiva Chocolates. The view from our room was horrendous-- an internal storage space-- which could be a beautiful courtyard with a little time and love. The stay wasn't bad, but I didn't feel like an appreciated and welcome guest. It was not at all what I'd hoped for or expected. read more

My experience was a bit disappointing. As a member of the I prefer program I am eligible for an upgrade. I checked in rather late on the date of arrival and nothing was available. That's perfectly understandable. The next morning, however, I checked to see whether an upgrade would be available that day. I was told there were a couple of suites that were being vacated but they might be "too expensive" for the rate I'm paying. When I came back in the afternoon I was told there were no upgrades because the hotel was full. This is a small hotel so that could be the case. It would be sad if the upgrade was refused simply because I wasn't spending enough for my room. I used to stay at the Waldorf and Waldorf Towers (which are now closed due to renovation) and frequently received wonderful upgrades. read more

This is, hands down, one of my all time favorite hotels. The hotel itself is very nice, very "old New York", with a great location at the SE corner of central park. It's not the hotel itself that is so wonderful, however -- it's the staff. After visiting NYC for many years and staying in many different places, I believe I have finally found "my" hotel. My wife and I and our three children (ages 3, 7, & 9) stayed in a suite with an adjoining room for a long weekend. The rooms were clean and the location is great. Despite the noise, hustle, and bustle of everything going on outside, the hotel is quiet, which is refreshing. The staff was fantastic and very friendly. The only issue we had was with getting hot water on demand but recognizing it is an old hotel, we did not mind the wait. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Sherry. read more

This 5-star review is a long-time coming, and I wish I had written it sooner. My husband and I were married back on New Year's Eve (12/31/07), and stayed at the Sherry in a beautiful city view suite. I will try not to make this too long, but I could go on forever. We live in San Diego, so NYC was a destination elopement for us. It was a wonderful trip, and the hotel staff were just as wonderful, catering to our every need, from the front desk greetings to elevator attendants to the bell staff - so polite and friendly! We have since gone back twice to celebrate our anniversary - first for NYE 2009/10, and again in January 2014 - we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. The clean yet old-world decor, convenient location (across from major subway lines and adjacent to Central Park along 5th Avenue), and room amenities, are outstanding. Yet, the most amazing part of our experience each time, is how service oriented each and every staff member is. We were absolutely blown away on our last trip where we were surprised to find that Jackie - Hotel Manager - arranged for us to have "our" suite waiting for us, complete with a bottle of champagne and welcome note when we arrived!!! The reason this is particularly special is because this suite is now an apartment for sale. Because we thought the suite was unavailable, we went ahead and booked a regular room. As you could imagine, it was a complete surprise to be greeted during check-in after a long trip (during the freezing polar vortex) with such a generous gesture! These are just a few reasons we will make the Sherry Netherland our home away from home. You really do "stay in New York, as if you live in New York" at the Sherry. We wish we could someday call "our" suite home. Who knows? It's still for sale for a reason...maybe we will. ;-) read more

What a lovely experience.... we ended up in NYC after having to cancel a long-anticipated Disney World trip due to Hurricane Irma. I was looking for a little luxury to console myself, and since traveling with our 3 year old son, I wanted to be close to Central Park. The Sherry Netherland exceeded my (high) expectations in every area. Our room was large, clean, and fully stocked with all amenities. There is no charge for bottled water, Perrier, and soda. There's a Keurig for morning coffee, or you can order it from room service. But the real stand out for me was the genuine kindness and hospitality that we were shown. The staff paid attention to every small detail- for instance, we are huge water drinkers, and leaving the room one morning I asked the concierge for a few bottles to take out with us for the day. She handed over 3 bottles, asking if we wanted refrigerated or room temp, and then asked if our room had not been stocked with water- I assured her it had, and that we just were big water drinkers and had gone through our supply already. When we returned from a day out, we found an additional 6 bottles of water in our room, without even asking. Housekeeping even called up later that evening to ask if we needed more. Checking in, the bell hop happily brought us a huge bucket of ice, and assured us that he would run more up any time we needed. Upon our departure morning, I mentioned to the door man that we would need a taxi to return to Penn Station, and that I would prefer an SUV or van because we were traveling with our child. As we came down with our luggage, I watched him wave past 6 or 7 taxis, until he found an SUV. At the Sherry Netherland, they LISTEN, and HEAR, and EXECUTE flawlessly- and that is everything you want when traveling. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! read more

This was one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed at. My husband and I stayed at the Sherry Netherland on a Saturday night and the location was amazing!! Right at the SE corner of central park on 5th- the flowers in bloom it was picture perfect! A number of shops and resturants were just a walk away, it was such a convient location. The beds and pillows were by far the most comfortable we have ever experienced and the room was very spacious! We had a separate kitchen, living and bedroom and the bathroom tub was a nice deep soaker. The old world elements of the hotel make the experience that much more amazing! The staff were all very helpful and friendly, definately put their customers first! We cant wait to visit this hotel again! read more

Rolex Watch Stolen from Room... Be careful. My wife and I stayed for 6 nights at the SN last week. On the third day, a Rolex Watch which I had left inside a leather case inside the bed side table drawer disappeared. I know, I should have used the safe... But in any case, the hotel management neglected take responsibility for the incident. They did not offer to cover any part of my $ 8,000 loss. Extremelly disapointed! read more

It's hard to describe how great this hotel is. It is quite possibly the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in and for certain puts many NYC rooms to shame. This hotel/apartment dwelling sits adjacent to the Plaza and directly across the street from Central Park. The staff here are amazing, so are the rooms. The cost for rooms in New York is always expensive, but at this place, you actually get something for your money. Rooms are extravagent and huge! Most suites feature a kitchenette and a huge living room in addition to a grand bedroom. Since there are full time residents here as well, each room has it's own distinct flavor and decor. I highly recommend the splurge if you're thinking of doing something grand in NYC. You will not regret staying here. The bed is amazing, the staff is accomodating, and the location can't be beat. Depending on the size room you get, and whether it has a view of another building aka the court yard, or 59th you can get one ranging from $699-1499. Do yourself the favor and save for 59th. But wait, you say, it overlooks the park? Oh it does, however I do believe those rooms are for full time residents only. Look for specials on their website, as sometimes if you pay in full upfront, you can get a slight discount. read more
