Large store with lots of supplies despite supply chain issues. Quick at mixing my paint.

Taking the spot vacated by CVS and expanding beyond it, it seemed an unusual move considering the relative proximity of Sullivan's, Lowe's, and Hedlund's all over near 62nd and Keystone. That said, the neighborhoods are entirely different and this neighborhood really hasn't had anything resembling a hardware store. There was a place open for a bit near 75th and Binford, however, this neighborhood has really sort of struggled to attract new businesses. Other than a Big Lots across the street and the always popular Taylor's Bakery, this corner has been a bit run down and neglected for as long as I've lived in the area. Recently, this particular corner is showing signs of life with both strip centers being renovated and now the arrival of Ace Hardware. Great Lakes Ace is a Michigan-based company with 62 locations. The location has been cleaned up mightily and the accessibility definitely improved with a better ramp and automatic doors. The store itself is surprisingly accessible for a hardware store (a weakness of Sullivan's). Ace prides itself on offering expert advice on a variety of home repair and maintenance projects with convenient shopping to get in and out quickly and national buying power for access to name brands. Ace specializes in paint, lawn and garden, home décor and hardware. They offer weekly specials and they do participate in the Ace Rewards program. This location also offers Ace Handyman Services. They come to the home and offer 1,162 handyman services and services are backed by a one-year guarantee. You can schedule online and they call back to confirm appointments. It looks like they typically schedule in 1/2 day or full-day options. The craftsmen are actual Ace employees - not contractors. The Ace that I found was well staffed and super friendly and helpful. I was basically "just looking" at this visit, however, I felt free to do so without a lot of pressure. Some of the key services at this location: Propane Refill/Exchange Blades/Knives/Scissors/Saws Sharpening Screen Repair Hunting/Fishing Licenses Auto Key Programming and Cutting Glass Repair and Cutting Assembly and more. This location carries hand and power tools, paint, sundries, clothing, plumbing, hardware, outdoor, cleaning supplies, electrical, lawn and garden, and housewares. Brands they carry include Traeger, Weber, STIHL, Scotts, Toro, Benjamin Moore, YETI, Magnolia Home Paint, Craftsman, Dewalt, and a few others. I suppose 5-star might be a little generous for a hardware store, however, I really liked the improved atmosphere of this store from the dingy, worn out feeling in the old CVS. This location is clean, well organized, surprisingly affordable, and has employees who were friendly and helpful. Plus, accessibility is improved quite a bit from the old tenant. Welcome to the neighborhood, Ace! I look forward to returning again in the near future.

He stayed there helping us try and find the items and answered all of our questions. When we left two more associates were at the front and said goodbye. Loved the help and looked like a good amount of items in the store.

The owner is particularly knowledgeable and has been very helpful when searching for the right product for each job. I have always preferred to use Benjamin Moore paints, but also appreciate being able to get qualified advice from an experienced professional. This is something just that can't be found at the big box stores. About two years ago I refinished my kitchen cabinets and painted my home's exterior. The gutters were covered in mildew and the kitchen cabinets had been hastily painted by the prior owner with cheap paint and had numerous finishing defects. The owner advised me on surface prep and recommended excellent products, including a paint that would minimize the need for multiple coats on my exterior. He even custom tinted a recommended primer (which wasn't a Benjamin Moore product, surprisingly) for my cabinets. Two years later, in a home with a young child, both paint jobs still look as good as they did on day one. I highly recommend them and will be buying all of my paints here.

When it came to painting, we happened upon Everyday Paint and Wallpaper. This place is stashed away next to Ace Hardware at the corner of Westfield and 86th. They sell paint and wallpaper and the supplies to work with paint and wallpaper. That's it. So, they know a lot about it. We have walls with oil paint on them. A basement with brick. Our exterior is painted. Everything we talked to them about, they knew the best way to attack it. I have been painting my house (wherever that house may be) for many, many years and I thought I knew it all. But, when I talked to these people, they showed me that there was still much to learn. Need to paint or wallpaper? Go to the Indiana experts! Go to Everyday Paint & Wallpaper. (Independently Owned and Operated since 1979 - which is way cool.)

Yes, they're commission sales people, so a little hand holdy. But I've never found them to be pushy. The store is massive and there's tons of furniture to choose from. It's…read morenot that people don't have good experiences - it's that the bad reviews are passionate and the good reviews are seldom good enough that you ever feel like you have to rush and write a review of it. Furniture reviews, it would seem, fall into this description. When you have a bad experience, you want to share it because someone has been messing with your home. While you may want to share a good experience, for the most part when it comes to furniture we "expect" a good experience and giving us one feels like it's just the way it should be. There are several national furniture brands that have scathing ratings yet they are "popular." Clearly, those having good experiences simply aren't writing the reviews. Bob's Discount Furniture and Mattress Store is exactly what you expect - a discount option for home furniture and mattress needs. I'd visited a couple of times before, however, had never actually bought here until recently when a friend visited the Castleton Bob's while helping me get a guest bedroom set up to help support me as I recover from recent health issues. This is located in the same strip center as Castleton's Ale Emporium. It's a huge, brightly decorated location. As I'm a bit older, Bob's makes me think of Value City - a place where I bought a lot of my affordable, moderate quality furniture when I first started out independently. It's not a great place. It's for the most part not an awful place. It's the place someone goes who has to be budget conscious, or who wants to, when getting furniture. My friend visited here while I was in the hospital and she and I and the sales person consulted back and forth. While my friend is a lifelong friend, shopping to meet the needs of a person with a disability is somewhat different and Bob's adapted well each time I would provide feedback on needs. We were looking primarily at beds for a small bedroom. We considered a few options, however, kept things very simple. Because the bed could end up being mine at some point, we also considered accessibility. So, the basics of the experience: The sales person was friendly, helpful, and honest about limitations (for example, at one point we were looking at a reclining option with my new limitations. This sales person would acknowledge when that feature would and would not be available). We eventually found what we wanted, made the sale, took part with us, and had the rest delivered. We were assigned a delivery window and instructed that an adult with ID had to be home. Additionally, they will wait 15 minutes upon arrival - after that, they leave and you will need to reschedule. This is no-nonsense, however, it's also explained up front. As I'm limited to home right now (I just got discharged from the hospital), it was easy to ensure someone would be here. I got an e-mail the morning of delivery giving me an expected window. That said, it could be earlier. Our delivery arrived a bit earlier. I had my ID, though it was never checked. The delivery people were friendly, efficient, and set everything up (we'd signed up for this). They took packaging with them. The set-up is a solid, entry level bed. It's moderate quality. I sure don't expect it to last long-term, however, it meets my need now. 5 star? Oh heavens no. I initially thought a 3-star was fair, however, I honestly can't think of anything that was truly wrong here. I really just consider this a solid experience with solid sales, a decent price, on time delivery, and good communication. For those needing a budget option for furniture with an experience that matches, Bob's offers it. I have not dealt with customer service post-sale as I've not had the need. However, given my recent stress around health I really appreciate that Bob's offered a low-stress purchase experience.
