Over the years, both of us have done multiple fabulous interior painting projects using Sherwin-Williams paints. My husband and I even had a really good Sherwin-Williams exterior project: painting the shabby stucco wall of our neighbor's garage. That exterior paint has held up great for several years. But our other outdoor Sherwin-Williams project has been a disaster. We have raised wooden beds in our backyard. When we expanded them, we decided to go top-of-the-line with Sherwin-Williams stain instead of our usual hardware store brand. I took pictures of our project and had a wonderful consultation with the employee there, and felt 100% positive that our new stain would be fabulous. We did all the prep properly and followed all the instructions. And, a mere year later, the stain began to flake. Two years later, and it looks embarrassingly bad. It's flaked up in huge chunks and I AM MAD. Again, we consulted properly and did all the proper prep and insured that we were using the correct products. That being said, I do feel like the staff there are/were lovely. And I've loved all of our other Sherwin-Williams paint projects. But I will never buy an exterior Sherwin-Williams product again.

This was a bigger project than I realized and without Fay's expertise I would have been so lost! I had no idea there were so many shades of white So after I realized I painted my floors a shade of white that looks way too cool I went back to the store and talked to Fay and she suggested a paint color called Greek Villa! She explained a lot of the different white hues this gal is literally a paint wizard. I went home and repainted and WOW my floors look incredible! But, when it came time to do some touch-up paint on our 1928 bungalow, we decided to use the same brand that had been used by the previous owner: Rodda. Luckily, we had some old paint cans on hand, so Rodda was able to make us new gallons of paint to the same specifications as the old paint. The new Rodda paint is, of course, bolder and brighter than the aged paint. But it still looks really good. Even better, the Rodda applied like butter! It self-leveled, leaving very few drip marks. (Our beloved Sherwin Williams trim paint, on the other hand, left a ton of drip marks and imperfections.) The Rodda cured really well, even though we were applying it in rare dry spells during a rainy and cold fall. We're huge fans of Rodda now, and will use them for all our exterior paint in future!

I brought a can of the old paint with me and Tom was able to tweak it to make it match the paint as it appears after all those years. He's a gifted colorist and very patient with customers. I also had the pleasure of working with Gina. She gave me wise advice about trying to match ceiling paint and finding alternative solutions. My painter told me about her knowledge and ability to color-match, but meeting her gave me a new perspective on solving problems. Thank you Tom and Gina! After failing to find a Sherwin-Williams grey I liked, I went with Benjamin Moore Coventry Grey. I…read morepurchased the Regal Select Matte paint and paid around $55 a gallon (way more expensive than the SW paint.) One of the employees was helpful, but he tried to convince me that one coat of the Regal Select (a paint and primer in one) wouldn't be enough. Trusting my gut, I only purchased two gallons to paint our large master bedroom in one coat. This paint is spendy! In the end, I only used 1 1/4 gallon, the better quality Regal Select had great coverage and looks awesome. One coat was more than enough. Just keep in mind you won't need two coats if you're liberal in applying!

First visit, I ordered online, the cashier told me to just call them next time since purchasing online cost more (not exactly sure about that, haven't compared prices). Then I went back for more paint because... I don't know what I'm doing and wasted a lot of paint. The 2nd time around, I asked many more questions and asked for tips. I was also trying to coordinate with my partner over the phone while in store with an employee helping me. - The employee so patient and understanding with me being on the phone. They then proved their patience with me going to my car and coming back inside THREE TIMES with more questions. Prices are reasonable, the tools sold there are about the same price as Ace Hardware. The employees are super nice and so very helpful. They had recommendations and answers for everything. There was no pressure to buy more or go for the more expensive option. They had tools that were on the price spectrum, there were cheaper options, midgrade and more expensive. They pointed out each tool, gave their rec and left it up to me to decide. I love that I can buy paint AND materials without feeling like I paid extra for materials because of the convenience. They get busy but they are also well staffed and take their time with customers. I never had to wait more than a few minutes. They also have some Spanish speaking staff and it sounded like they have good relationships with their Spanish speaking customers. Here's what I learned: -One quart of paint technically covers about 100 ft², but in reality, probably more like 60 to 80 ft², especially considering if you don't know what you're doing. My first mistake - getting one quart, 2nd visit, I definitely got the full size can. -After you're done painting use the rollers to go all in one direction one last time to avoid seeing any strokes. Stick with a matte color to especially avoid seeing any strokes. -If you're repainting a wall, it's best to paint the entire wall otherwise you might see the old paint versus the new.

The knowledge, camaraderie, care, and efficiency among the people who work here makes it feel like a group of your friends who are all very into paint and just happen to hang out at this location- which is, despite being a paint store, spotless. I figure that for sheds and fences and the stuff like that it would be cool to both use some recycled paint and save the money. These buildings don't need that perfect satin finish or the exact shade choices that an interior room does. I didn't spend more than 4 minutes in the store due to the efficiency of the employee. However the biggest set back to this company is the lack of training, having enough help, and the fact that mistakes require write Up's. There's not much counseling or opportunity to move ahead if your really good at what you do. I would go back to this company in a heartbeat and the only reason I'm not there now is because of mistakes... It's to bad. I'm a good employee with tons of experience and could have been a great asset to this company in a different position.
