The last two times I have gone it was disappointing. I just had to comment on the poor service and lousy food. It used to be a great spot to get a decent bite, not sure what happened. The waitress was missing in action for most of the time. The pastrami sandwich was fatty, greasy and made me ill. The roast beef sandwich was over cooked and dry. The Five Towns doesn't have too many hang-out spots for teenagers, so my friends and I almost always end up coming to the diner. The wait staff is friendly and there's always something on the menu for everyone. If you get french fries here, ask for some yogurt sauce and dip your fries in it, so good! I'm not going to give it five stars because hell, it's a diner after all, but I'm a fan and i'm sure i'm going to spend many more evenings here in the future. read more

I was in NY and was craving spaghetti. Everywhere I went was packed because it was Veterans day so I went to the Sherwood Diner, just down the street from the Holiday Inn I was staying at. There was no spaghetti on the menu but when I told the waiter what I was craving he said he would get me some spaghetti. The portion was so large I could not eat it all. It came with salad, macaroni salad and slaw. Great service and fantastic spaghetti all for $15.99. I loved this place and will surely be back. read more

I had not been there since The 1980's and it has been completely renovated.It has been there since The 50's.I went for Breakfast.They were busy and understaffed yet waitress did an exceptional job handling it.I was greeted promptly and waited on promptly.Omelette was good as was The Coffee which the buser kept on bringing.I think I will try for Dinner. read more

Their food is amazing and so is their staff. Burgers are cooked properly and the staff checks in occasionally which is hard to find. Parking is easy and the atmosphere is great. read more

Been a loyal eater at this classic New York diner for over 15 years for the consistently high quality food. Great traditional diner fare as well as pastas and fresh seafood. Moved away but returned recently on the way to the airport and found the interior renovations completed and fabulous, making the Sherwood an excellent choice for special occasions and groups. There is something on the menu for everyone. Lots of healthy choices, great salads, generous portions. read more

Bad food and horrible service. Had my hardworking husband meet me there after work as a surprise. I ordered a salad and was very disappointed it was made with iceberg lettuce & when I requested a salad with green lettuce the waiter snatched the bowl from the table and came back with the same bowl and salad and said here it has romaine lettuce now. Instead of quarreling I canceled my order. He told me that I could not cancel my order & that I had to take it home. He called the manager to determine the type of lettuce & she tells him that its iceberg he takes the food back and never comes back to the table. My husband had already began to eat so I agreed to wait for him to eat. however, his meal was incomplete and not very tasteful so he ate half and we paid the bill and left. NEVER again. read more

We are regular patrons, unfortunately noticing a disturbing trend. Cleanliness has become a concern, we are seeing dirty windows and windowsills, the backs of the booths, and floors. We even had a pepper shaker with dry ketchup on it. There was a hair on our plate! The food is usually good with ample portions, but we had an incident with old, greasy, bacon that we will remember for a long time. We are currently looking for a new diner to become our favorite. read more

Last visit to Sherwood Diner for breakfast was very disappointing due to lack of cleanliness in the restaurant. We visit quite often for lunch and dinner as well . Finger prints were all over the window/sills and this was early in the morning. The baseboard in the staff work station is dirty.{I mean black } The gentleman that is there dusting up front every time we come should also pay attention to the rest of the restaurant. Toast was delivered with a hair on the plate and the bacon was old hard and greasy. All meals should be inspected before presented to the customers. The food is generally good and plenty and the staff are pleasant, we will probably give it another try, if nothing changes will find another place. read more

My family and I were staying at a hotel in Far Rockaway, NY and we happened to stumble upon this diner around 10 at night. It looks and feels kind of sketch at first but once we settled in, it felt like one of the diners you always see in the movies, lol. It was very comfortable and the staff were very hospitable. There is an older gentleman there named Bruno. He was very nice and treated you well once you got past his shell. They offered 2 free dishes, one being a mac salad and the other NY style coleslaw. Both were very yummy and appreciated! I ordered the deluxe breakfast with pancakes. Honestly, they were the best pancakes I've ever had! Don't even get me started with the bacon! That was the best bacon ever as well. It was cooked perfectly and was actually bacon, not the fatty stuff we have in Virginia. I didn't expect the food to be so tasty especially at 11pm. My brother had the beef tips quesadillas. Talk about juicy! My mother ordered a cheeseburger which she enjoyed very much. The presentation of the food could have been better but hey, it's a diner. We will definitely be returning to this diner the next time we are in NY. read more

I've read comments from other reviewers defining the Sherwood as just a "Diner." Of course it's a Diner, and it doesn't purport to be anything else. Those who wish ambiance, romantic music and overpriced skimpy portions can eat at any "fancy" restaurant in town, but... for a great neighborhood feel with ample helpings, highly reasonable prices, friendly faces, a CLEAN bright atmosphere exuding the superlative "Diner" experience, the Sherwood is the place to be! Most diners are repeat customers who, in many cases know each other and who eat there several times a week. Their full Mon/Tues dinners are astounding resulting in new customers becoming repeat customers in short time. FYI when you go, ask for Audrey, whose cheery demeanor, EXCEPTIONAL service, and remarkable ability to remember even the most detailed orders with precision makes the experience even more worthwhile. Watched her handle a table of ten "difficult" diners (who changed their orders several times) with coolness and composure, delivering each order ACCURATELY and ... with a smile! Can't ask for more! Thumbs up, Audrey and thumbs up Sherwood for hiring her! While other Diners are closing down, Sherwood is still on a roll. They must be doing something right!!! read more

I wish I can write this review with no stars. I give the place a minus zero. Numerous times I visited this establishment and my experience has been getting more and more horrible. 1. Every time I go in there I sit in what I called the "black" or "minority" section. Two there is always an argument between the waiters and waitresses regarding who will service our table like tonight. The one Hispanic waiter that is there every night is predjudice he only want to service his kind or Caucasian. Yes I said it because it need to be said. 3. The waitress that I had tonight was horrible she took our order never made sure we got our drinks. Once she bought our food to the table after we had to wait until she finished her many conversations she dropped the food down and said is everything ok and walked away and never was to be seen again. She sat down to have a conversation with another patron in the reseturant the whole time we were looking for her because we did not get our drinks what was simple water I needed ketchup i had to ask all the other waiters that were passing through for ketchup. I had to literally get out my seat to ask another water for the drinks then had to get up again to ask the bus boy for straws. Oh and let me not forget him that just threw the complimentary food on the table like we were dogs. So now when this waitress decided to get off her ass and come to us she brings us the check and says thank you and throws the check on the table. That's why I had it expressed to the lady at the cashier how I felt and the waitress we had had the nerve to say the service today had nothing to do with color because her children are black. Hmmm it's funny that she said that when I didn't even go there yet so you know exactly where I was going with this conversation. So the lady at the cashier tells me well don't leave them a tip I'm like that's not the point your customer service sucks my money is green like everyone else. Then she proceeds to tell me next time just ask to sit on the other side. Obviously they did not get the point so I had to let them know I will not visit this place again and this will not be the only place I'm putting this I will make several other complaints and I will not let his rest because this has to stop. read more
