I love Sherwood for dinner I always have pasta. Their shrimp alfredo is the best choice and you get soup or salad if your lucky you might get both and they give you bread and macaroni salad before your meal comes. It's a huge serving you will have leftovers which to me taste just as great the next day for lunch. They also renovated a little while back inside is nice. Here are the caveats for patronizing the Sherwood Diner and I encourage you to take these warnings seriously. 1-Sending food back. What the wait staff won't tell you is that if you send a meal back (as I did because the Vinagarette Spinach Ravioli with Veal was too tart) and I exchanged it for a chicken salad sandwich is that they will end up charging you for both! Be very clear with the wait staff that they are not authorized to charge you if your meal is inedible. 2-Make sure you get all of your sides. The wait staff has a habit of missing, omitting and forgetting to bring out your creamed spinach or mashed potatoes which are included with all dinners. 3-They charge for refills on coffee. Although they will tell you that you are entitled to one free refill with every cup o Joe that you order. Check your check-they sneak in a charge for refills. 4-They charge $4.50 for sharing which they never tell you. Order a soup and a coffee if you share to avoid the SHARING CHARGE 5-SPLIT CHECKS-THIS IS A DISASTER AT THE SHERWOOD.I RECENTLY DINED THERE WITH A PARTY OF 11 AND REQUESTED MY OWN CHECK TO AVOID DIVIDING UP THE CHECK AT THE END OF THE MEAL ,OUR WAITRESS SCREWED IT ALL UP AND BROUGHT OUT ONE BIG CHECK AND THAN THREW A TEMPER TANTRUM IN FRONT OF OUR GROUP COMPLAINING TO EVERYONE THAT I WANTED TO HAVE A STEAK SANDWICH BILLED SEPARATELY. I WAS VERY EMBARRASSED. I've been coming here for years and The service was great but as I was about to take a bite of my French toast I found a hair . Ewwww gross!! I know stuff happens but I totally lost my appetite and doubt I will be returning . The manager took off the one meal which was nice and the server was super nice and felt Terrible . Came to The Sherwood Diner for dinner with two other people. We chose to have one of the three dinners to-go and not served at the table. When we got home, we discovered that the server accidentally wrapped up someone else's leftovers from another table and gave it to us to take home instead of our third complete dinner. When we spoke to the owner the following morning, he became very angry and accused us of complaining solely for the purpose of getting a free meal. In all my years of frequenting restaurants, I've never experienced such an unreasonable and inappropriate response from an owner. So sad that a loyal and frequent customer can be treated so shabbily. Lesson to be learned.......If you choose to complain at The Sherwood, beware, you will be scolded by the owner. read more

I highly recommend this place if you are staying near JFK. Customer service was phenomenal. (Has crappy service and food experience at the Applebee's). Family of three on a Sunday night at 8pm in late June. Greeted and seated immediately. Lots of patrons inside. Before we could review the menu we were dished up a batch of pasta salad, cole slaw, and warm bread. We still ordered appetizer to make a judgement given the mixed reviews. Mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, potato skins, chicken wings, and chicken fingers were all very good. Can tell the kitchen is run right based on fried foods. We ordered two burgers, a gyro, and a salad. All was more than filling. Taste and looks were appealing. We will come back and not just because of the Goodfellas movie connection. read more

I have been coming to this place since is was a child with my grandparents. You know who knows good diners? Old people. I have been coming on my own for years now and they do a diner right. The food is constantly good, the service is quick and attentive and you never break the bank coming here. It's a normal diner with normal diner choices and that's all it needs to be. Been here countless times, my favorite finer. Best baked clams in the world! Their salads are always great, very generous portions. The Romanian steak is excellent. And of course the best part... Some of the worst service I've ever experienced. Our table was the only one missing a bread basket, and we watched them give them out to other tables that were seated after us, so we politely asked for one and not only did our waiter not apologize for forgetting to do his job properly, but he also slammed it down on the table with an attitude as if he couldn't be bothered to do what he was supposed to do in the first place. I come here to eat 2/3 times a month. My visit today was very unpleasant and it rubbed me the wrong way. I felt in a sense discriminated against and mistreated because the color of me and my family skin. I noticed the same service that was provided to the Caucasian family that came in 15 minutes after we did was much more attentive. I seen my waiter 3 times (to take my order, to bring my food and to bring the bill). He didn't come to refill our water glasses never asked if we needed/wanted anything else. I have to give the Sherwood diner 5 stars based on the fantastic, fast service. I was looking for a diner near the airport to go with my sister and her 7 yr old boys. The staff was ultra helpful and could not have been nicer! The food was your standard diner fare, although the free macaroni salad and coleslaw starter was a big hit, as my sister's family had been traveling all day and were starved. Just got back from the Sherwood, where over the last 23 I can honestly say, the visits havent been horrible TILL TODAY. Husband ordered a chopped steak, and the waitress was nice enough to inform him that it is just an oversized hamburger. He said thank you, I know. My son ordered a hamburger medium (to all of us at the table that meant NO PINK, well, when he bit into it, blood dripped down his arm. NOT THE HAND, BUT THE ARM, he sent it back only to get the same burger which is correct, BUT THE SAME BUN WITH THE JUICES (BLOOD AND ALL), he sent it back again and this time asked for a new bun, and the waitress said they will have to make him a new burger, and he agreed. When hubby cut into the chopped steak, all was good till he put the piece in his mouth and lo and behold, HAIR!! Not on the meat, but MIXED IN WITH THE MEAT. You saw the hair between the meat as he took it out of his mouth. My husband is in the food service business and while he almost threw up on the table, he held back, went to speak to the manager and was told...'SO WHAT, YOU GOT HAIR IN YOUR FOOD.". Excuse me??? while I know that my kids will go there after each school event, I will not be patronizing this disgusting diner again. I went to Sherwood Diner on Wednesday morning and ordered hotcakes, bacon and a hard fried egg and hot tea. I have to say that everything was good except my eggs that were runny...ewww. So, I could not eat it but the hotcake and bacon were great as well as the friendly service. I will be back the next time I'm in town. read more

We enjoy almost everyday our breakfast at Sherwood Diner! The staff if friendly, the busboy Luis is very nice to us and promptly come to our table to serve us! The AM waiters already know our usual order that as soon as they see us they order it for us so our food is at the table in no time! About the PM service Mr Bruno is attentive and his service is excellent! I love the twin deluxe hamburger and my wife the Friday soup of the day! The only complaint is that their menu should be Kid friendly! They should add macaroni and cheese and for them to use a hotdog bun not a hamburger bun! Mr George is a serious man and should be more friendly but we think is maybe his stress! read more

Visited the Sherwood for lunch with a couple of my colleagues. Our waiter took our drink order (two iced teas and a decaf coffee and was prompt in bringing them. We ordered a couple of burgers and a feta and goat cheese omelet with hash browns and white toast. A waitress arrived and asked if we wanted pickles and coleslaw. We said yes. She also asked us if we wanted bread but cautioned us that the diner charges almost $3.00 for the "bread basket". A diner that CHARGES for bread? When our lunch choices arrived, the guys who ordered the burgers said they were mediocre. My omelet was overcooked to the point of being "crisp" and my white toast was wheat toast. The experience didn't improve when the staff started removing plates from out table while we were still eating w/o asking. The Lawrence Diner down the block is a true "Greasy Spoon" with aging decor and menus that probably date from the 1980's but the burgers and omelets that I had there were excellent. One star is to much for what I think of the Service based off of my own personal experience I went there one nite after work to get a decent meal went inside gorge happen to be my waiter ordered a cheese burger with French fries and pickles on the side food comes he brings the pickles on top of the coldsaw I explained to how I Do not like colsaw and would like simply a couple pickles in a bowl or plate would be fine , gorge told me just eat these I said no I would like different pickles again he said no , I told I was leaving so the guy at the register stated he was the manager and that he will fix the situation and in fact give me a whole fresh meal I said new burger and all he said yes whole fresh order I said ok and was seated at a different table my food came out fast and again I ask the waiter so everything freshly made he said yes I just watched them make it so I called the manager back over to my table and asked him again so this meal is a fresh meal he stated yes I opened the cheese burger and noticed freshly melted cheese that wasn't fully melted so it stuck to the bun and what do I see the ketchup I put on the last burger meaning they slapped a new piece of cheese on the same old burger and swore to me it was a fresh burger they lie and I would never trust them to handle my food , and folks that sad part is all I ever wanted was pickles on the side and ran into this disregard for customers and nasty do not go there read more

Horrible experience on 06/22/2017. No air conditioning, poor service, no onion rings, and only two of 5 adult entrees were deemed "good" (open-faced turkey sandwich, pastrami sandwich). The french dip was on the wrong bread and the aus jus was gravy master. The meat and the bread of the gyro with Greek salad were not toasted, the salad dressing tasted like salsa, and the french fries were still frozen on the inside. The turkey club, according to the waitress, only comes in triple-decker variety. My water glass had a leak, and I practically had to beg to get another glass of water. Oh! And the M&M cookie that came with a kid meal caused an allergic reaction. read more
