The Sherwood never disappoints. Staff are the best. Good portions, good quality food served fresh. The surrounding area has plenty of shops and businesses, gas station stations, restaurants etc etc. public transportation is also available. Minutes from JFK airport.

Came here for breakfast and got a nice, big booth. Immediately given waters. The menu had a decent selection, and we started with a fruit bowl which was pretty big and had a nice fruit variety. I also got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and it came packed with those ingredients. It was a super filling breakfast sandwich. The coffee was good, and there was great service getting refills and not too long to wait for the food. Overall, no complaints. Great place for breakfast.

The staff were friendly hostesses, waitresses, servers and bus boys. We were given enough time to review menu before ordering and served in a reasonable amount of time. The chicken pot pie was a hit, both shredded and chunks of chicken with peas, carrots and potatoes. The only comment is that a bottom crust as well would be great. The French onion chicken was a large breaded chicken cutlet with mozzarella cheese and what looks like a large serving of French onion soup atop. The soup mixture made the bottom crust soggy but gave the mixed vegetables (carrots/squash/zucchini) a little flavor. The top was a bit tough to cut even using the steak knife they serve it with. The cutlet was a little thick and should be pounded out a little more. Servings were large. Everyone ate about half, so leftovers. The dessert menu looked good but we were all full. Parking in the rear. Get there early because the parking lot is not very big and shared with a few other businesses so maybe later there should be spaces available. There is also street parking.

Strange...just strange…read more My friend and I were waiting for the Jetty to open for brunch so we thought we would grab a drink somewhere else while we wait. We were even considering other spots for brunch since we weren't married to any particular option. Unfortunately, our experience made us not want to stick around and we ventured on. As we were walking by and peering in to check out the scene, a man standing outside the restaurant with his bike said something like "Go ahead, they're open". It didn't look like he was affiliated with the restaurant but later on it seemed like he knew the DJ. Yes there was a DJ set up by the bar, but they were playing jazz music. Now I love jazz but to me this was a tiny bit odd. I'm use to seeing live jazz on premise. But that was the least of our worries. We then went to order brunch cocktails and they have a great selection. To switch it up a bit and because it was on the menu, we ordered two Bellinis. It felt like it too over a half hour for our drinks. A Bellini is champagne and peach juice/purée. The champagne was poured but it took forever for them to get to finishing our very simple drink. The purée was in the fridge under the bar. Again no they much of a stretch, but it seemed like a tall order. The bar seemed to be run by two people, both a man and a woman. The place itself wasn't crowded but he seemed like the two of them as well as the other staff seemed overwhelmed. We finally got our Bellinis and after waiting an exorbitant amount of time to get these two simple drinks, we were pitched on staying for brunch. This might have been considered if we didn't see the kitchen staff berate the front of the house right in front of customers. It really left a bad taste in our mouth. The Bellini was fine...and as soon as we finished it we dropped some money at the bar and left. Definitely disappointing because it has potential.

I came here on Sunday before exploring the beach and chose it after reading several detailed 5-star…read morereviews. I was indeed excited to come here so it pains me to leave them (or any business really) a 2 star review.. it really does. It seems they took over from a former restaurant named Island Thyme early last year, so perhaps they still are experiencing growing pains. There was also a private party going on, so that clearly played a factor in their disorganization. Upon entry, the owner asked if we'd like to eat indoors or outdoors. As I was about to respond, she stated "you'll have to sit outdoors, we have a private party inside." Interesting start. After we were seated, my date noticed most of the staff seemed a bit dejected and I replied "Well in my time as a server years ago, that usually reflects not so great management." Sadly I think I was correct. Our food took at least 45 minutes to arrive. At about the half hour mark, the owner came to the table and said that our food is coming out "right now." We ordered a grilled cheese and a burger, which both came with a side of fries. The burger wasn't too bad (except for an indelible crunchy piece that I had to place into my napkin). The fries on the other hand were most definitely undercooked. I took a few bites of the grilled cheese, which I did find quite tasty. After we finished our meal, we heard the owner tell a table that they are BYOB, so they can feel free to grab a beverage from the deli across the street. That information would definitely have been welcomed, as we could sure have used a drink while waiting for the food. When the owner finally came by to check on us (after we ate), we asked for the check. We then watched as she then greeted new guests for the private party and seemingly forgot about us for over 10 minutes. Luckily, a different waitress noticed the credit card I had placed on the side of the table and asked if we would like our check. Everyone's human and we all have off-days/nights, so while my date was quite frustrated and still hungry (barely ate half her food), I figured you can't win 'em all. Little did I know that the best was yet to come. After having to track down a pen to sign the bill, the owner approached us one last time. "Hey I'm the owner and I just wanted to say... can you leave your tip in cash." All in all, great location, good concept, but definitely a severe lack of execution. Perhaps the next time they book a private party, they should consider closing it off to the public, as I noticed several other tables seeming frustrated or ignored as well.

Nice comfortable motif. Long high tables in the middle shaped like an "L" with regular tables for four along the rear periphery. The service is excellent. Brisket and Ribs, Fish and Chips, The Wedge Salad and Charred Octopus were excellent. The hot lobster roll is alright. I realized that we were here before because of the comfortable ambiance which is unforgettable. My friend enjoys his Martini every time. I have tried neither their signature drinks nor a theme dinner night, nor a live music event. Seems like there are many reasons to come to this place. For dessert, we shared bread pudding, sliced thin and very delicious.

I would probably go here way too often if it was more conveniently located. The veggie panino is very tasty. The raspberry scone is a yummy treat-- I Love that it has icing drizzled on it. I think I'd like it even more if the actual scone was made with less sugar, and more sugary icing were drizzled on top, but it's wonderful as is. Very fresh tasting and soft inside. The chai latte wasn't on the menu, but they made it for me and it was great. I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu. The staff there are lovely and clearly care about their customers. It's nice that the owners incorporated their culture into the identity of the cafe by giving the restaurant and some menu items Italian names. This place is authentic and special, and unlike some other Italian cafes or vegan places, this one has a vibe that is approachable for and welcoming to people of all different walks of life and dietary preferences.

The great-looking lineup of muffins and even homemade biscotti(!) in the display case caught our attention immediately, and by the time we took a look at the menu, we were truly hooked. All of their plant-based meats are homemade from whole foods, such as the signature chorizo (lentils and tofu) and the chicken cutlet (chickpeas). A refreshing change from the highly processed vegan meats served almost everywhere else. We were blown away by the chorizo broccoli rabe sandwich served on sourdough - possibly the best sandwich we've ever had. The tofu scramble bowl was also fantastic, with well-executed details such as green beans mixed in and a side of delicious roasted rosemary potatoes (and a generous side of avocado). The matcha chocolate chip muffin was delicious, as was the almond biscotti. We also really enjoyed the coffee (drip coffee and espresso) which was made with love and served in actual mugs. The food was served in disposable to-go containers even though we dined in, reminding you that it's more of a cafe than a restaurant, even though the chef has the skill and creativity to rival any cloth napkin establishment. Fermento impressed us in a way that is rare: incredible tasty and wholesome food (both savory dishes and desserts) that was both innovative and comforting. Long Beach is a long way away for us, but we are already looking for an excuse to return.
