Dine or Ditch? Dine...r...Diner (get it? It was lazy) I've eaten here somewhere close to a million times, give or take. It's near the office and an acceptable eating spot for the whole family considering it's a diner with a menu of every food option you can imagine. Everything is pretty standard diner food and quality. In coming here you should be pretty happy with your meal. I usually try to get something from the lunch special menu because you get a soup, beverage, and dessert and the portions are always a nice size. I really enjoy starting the meal with the macaroni salad. After that, the chicken cutlet Danielle is a good option as well as the spinach pie. The rice pudding, bread pudding, and chocolate pudding all make good compliments to the meal as well. I don't know if anything will knock your socks off, but I can't really name a diner that has managed that. The wait staff is pretty friendly overall and provides good service. We've been served by a good number of people from the team and we've always been happy with them, however Omar has been our go to guy! He provides great service and a fun and friendly eating experience. I would say definitely dine with Omar! Overall, you'll have a good dining experience in going to the Sherwood. read more

I ate at almost every diner in Long Island but this one takes the cake! Not only do they have that Magic touch with eggs every item I've had is in par with finer restaurants that charge 20 to 30% more and the food portions are significantly larger then other diners in the hood. I've been going to Sherwood with my family ever since I was a child. The food has always been good. The coleslaw is particularly appetizing. Now that I'm an adult I still go to Sherwood with my family every once in a while. We usually go during the day for lunch. The diner tends to be pack for dinner and Sunday brunch, so we try to avoid those times. The somewhat recently renovated decor and highly polished windows gives the place a retro feel. I recently read that this diner was in one of my favorite movies, "Goodfellas," which I think is pretty cool. The free appetizers like the coleslaw and the breadbasket may fill you up before your meal arrives. I usually can't finish my fries or mashed potatoes and I end up taking them home. I will keep going back. read more

Great diner, great food, exceptional service... but the owner/manager George makes Donald Trumps disposition seem pleasant. He needs to lighten up and appreciate the exceptional staff he has. I've been going to DINERS for a while now and as far as I'm concerned, there's NOTHING more "American" than eating at a diner. Having said that, this place is hit or miss. On a good day you come in for one of their breakfast bonanzas drink all the refill coffees you can and call it a day. I usually get the EGG WHITES, pastrami, wheat toast (buttered) and home fries; can't go wrong with home fries Never really been to this place for either lunch or dinner so not sure about their menu selection but I imagine it won't be too far off from the breakfast standard. Traditional dinner, one of the few left over with house Cole slaw, marconi salad as start appetizers. Its wait staff are friendly, constant checking on us. Balsamic Salmon over a bed of raw spinach is amazing good. Lightly fried salmon sealed it's natural juice, with a bit over acidic balsamic sauce. The raw spinach bed balance the vinegary sauce and the salmon. Had a chocolate with coke float, classic feel good drink!!! Overall, it is exceptional in the neighborhood. I've been here a few times, it's been here forever so I hear, and my husband's family has been eating here a long time. I found everything mediocre at best. The service is good, but the food is honestly nothing I would go back for. The menu is huge, but as I try to explain to people, that doesn't mean it's all going to be good. In fact, it usually means the opposite. The portions are big, but I would rather have a smaller portion of amazing food than a whole lot of blah. We love coming here. The only thing is when the elderly mother is at the cashier register. Do not ask her to make drinks because she does a disservice. Before I moved to Florida I used to eat here on a regular basis. It wasn't that great then, but it was passable. Tonight it was not passable by no means. We ate lobster dinners and they were disgusting, wet and soggy. They didn't taste fresh so I'm assuming that they were previously frozen. So I tried this place recently with a coworker. We did not have a good experience. The fried chicken was hard and dry. It had a bad taste like it was cooked in old or burnt grease. When attempting to pay bill by card they looked at us as if they had a problem taking a card. They asked for ID which I don't believe I've ever been asked for in a restaurant. The owner constantly has a toothpick in his mouth. He momentarily took saliva covered toothpick out of his mouth and held it in his hand. He then used that same hand to look at my ID. Disgusting. This diner has a lot of history for me and I only wish they would update it to have healthier options on the menu. I give it 3 stars because it's a diner and has what you'd expect. But it's been around a long time and it would be great if they updated to have more things like gluten-free, and almond milk etc., options and things that other diners have today. read more

I Have been to the place a few times now and even though it is a dinner, I love places that have consistent great food, which this place has. For pancakes anyway they are one of the best up there with IHOP, and am not a big pancake person usually I eat pancakes once, twice a year, but so far I have eating PC=(pancakes) three times this year and two of those times where at this place. Disclaimer: (I have only gotten chocolate chip pancakes). I have also had there sausage and egg. With PC you get three decency size sausage, they have a nice flavor. Only thing at first I didn't like about the sausages, we're they were a little under cooked for me, I asked my grandma and she said they were done, but is tastes like it just turned the corner of being done, but next time I came here, I just asked they cut them open and the did and it was great. The eggs are good but it seems like such a little amount, it leaves you wanting more. The only reason I don't give this places 5 Stars is because the staff is nice and attentive for a Time, towards the end of our visit the Waiters stop coming around and it takes some time to get their attention so you can get your bill. Went to Sherwood Diner for the first time on March 22, 2019 by myself for an after work lunch. My waiter was very nice and courteous to me. But when I got to the counter the guy was very rude. He did not greet me and charged me more than what I was supposed to pay even after handing him the receipt with the total on it. He did not apologize and proceeded to put the change in the counter and not in my hand. I believe this was due to him being prejudice as I am an African American woman and he is Caucasian. I do not remember any names but I would not recommend this place to anyone ! read more

During the past 6 weeks of lockdown we tried several take-out places. For the past 3 weeks Sherwood was the best. We ordered 2 dinners and 2 omelettes which lasted for 6 meals at a fair price. We called in our order for curbside delivery and it was ready at the exact time we asked for. The italian food (chicken parmigiana and spaghetti with meat sauce) was better than any of the Italian restaurants we go to. Their food is the highlight of our week. I am from NY not CA! read more

I've been to Sherwood diner many times. It used to be one of my favorite local places to eat, but that's changed. Since being under new management, things have went nowhere but downhill. Remodeling the place hasnt changed the service, which can't be remodeled. Sherwood diner has many good dishes, however, they also have many bad. The owner and the help is not very accommodating. They would rather lose you as a customer than accommodate you for their mistake, which is terrible work ethic. I know quite a few customers that were regulars who ate there for years and eventually did not go back after a problem on just about every occasion. Like I said, food is very hit and miss. Something I've noticed is that they often re-serve their pickles, cole slaw and bread. I've even receive already used packages of butter. The worst part about this diner is that it is not very cleanly. Tables are sticky, silverware is not always clean, and glasses often have stains with such things as lipstick. Waitresses (for some reason) all seem to have some sort of attitude, no matter when we go there. Servers can also be seen conversating rather than accommodating. This would normally be fine, except when you get next to no service. All in all, I am very disappointed in the direction that this diner has went. It's upsetting that a good restaurant could turn into such a lousy one. read more

Today I got pancakes deluxe with coffee. Service is always attentive. Today my server was Jimmy A (just read it on the receipt) who provided excellent service. Every time I'm in Lawrence NY, The Sherwood Diner is a must stop! The menu reads like a novel and there is something for everyone! The portion sizes are huge and the food is delicious. My favorite is a "Pilgrim Wrap" which is a Thanksgiving meal in a wrap! The service is great and the prices are fair. It is a very roomy restaurant and has recently been renovated. I can't wait to stop in there again so I can check out the new decor! I just wished Delaware had a diner like the Sherwood!!! read more

This used to be the #1 dinner in the five towns. Today it is run down both inside and out. Management is aweful nasty-and has a down right attitude. Food prices are above average for the area and the wait staff seems brutalized by management. In the winter it has terrible heat and the summer below standard air conditioning. It's a step up from fast food, but not much, insulting in price to anyone with more than a little culinary knowledge, or who hasn't had their taste buds surgically removed. The new management is awful and doesn't have a clue how to run a restaurant, nor should they probably be allowed to be in the restaurant business period. Was just at this diner about an hour ago. We were going to have lunch and then take my daughter to the airport. I ordered a chef salad, tossed. When the plate arrived at the table, there was an insect leg right under a piece of ham. It was approximately 2" long and very identifiable. We showed the sever, who offered to replace the dish....and did, but the Mgr. never came over to inquire. When leaving, I approached the mgr/ owner, who knew about it and said it was a piece of plastic, so I asked for him to bring it out again so we could have a look at it together... But he said he already tossed it in the trash. I wouldn't suggest eating here. The manager lied about the insect leg, and to me that's just an indication of how he runs the business.
