Gloves are the enemy of the food industry if not used properly. Untrained workers using gloves have no sense of "my hands are dirty" since they're wearing gloves. They routinely touch the counter, door handles, utensils, etc. which are usually touched by many others. Hopefully the owners who put their hard earned dollars into opening a restaurant for the community take the time to train their staff properly. Until then, this restaurant is DISGUSTING!!!! From the moment we walked in and were personally greeted by the hostess who confirmed our special occasion celebration and food allergies, the service was impeccable. The entire staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and truly enhanced our experience. They expertly described each course, including how to eat it, and were patient with our questions. We made a last minute early dinner week night reservation (you have to prepay for your meal including a 20% service fee) and were one of two couples for the majority of our three-hour 9+ course plus wine pairing experience. The restaurant itself is in the heart of Baldwin and the decor is modern, intimate, and clean. We began the meal with a special complimentary cocktail at the bar and then were seated in a huge, plush booth complete with pillows. The food was coursed at a great pace and it was nice to be able to watch the chefs plate the dishes. The music was of a wide variety and a perfect volume. The portions are small but packed with flavor and beautifully designed. There were minimal substitutions made due to my crustacean allergy and the Vietnamese dishes were all divine. I especially loved the main course with wagyu tartar, a donut, and broth that had been made over the course of several days and I will probably dream about for awhile. My other favorites were the foie gras appetizer and sweet yet savory cheese and strawberry dessert. We even received what I believe was a bonus almond and passion fruit dessert due to our celebration which was an awesome surprise. Throughout our meal we were served food and drinks by the same hostess who initially greeted us, the two chefs preparing the main courses, and the pastry chef. They were all equally wonderful to converse with and seemed genuinely happy to be there. While serving a dessert course, my dish tipped over right before the party chef set it down and he quickly went back and brought a fresh one to ensure my experience was nothing short of excellent. We were also provided warm hand towels for every dish with a hand component. Upon paying for our wine pairing and caviar and black truffle enhancements (which were originally presented to us in a special box), we were gifted personalized envelopes with a wax seal of the restaurant's signature logo enclosed with that evenings menu and a bottle of tea to go. The odd part was the staff was almost TOO attentive. You'd turn around and anything at your spot belonging to the facility was removed. Did you go up to get more food? You'd return to find all the utensils gone. Eating and paused for a moment? If not, you'd likely turn and find an arm pop around you to remove your plate and any utensil around. It left a sense of feeling rushed and inconvenienced as there were no utensils clearly visible. You'd have to ask the staff who would direct you to utensils on a black tablecloth covered by a black napkin where there were a total of three sets. They were never refilled throughout the service so the running joke became asking your neighbor to guard your utensils and napkins if you'd step away otherwise risk eating with your hands. Also one of the staff you could always tell when she returned from a smoke break which was disappointing. But at least you knew a server was nearby when the odor of smoke came around and know your items might disappear if you weren't holding on to them? Overall, for the price you're paying keep in mind it's strictly for the name. The experience was subpar and I've been to better events where people spent less. Black rice is my favorite and SK does it wonderfully. Moist, flavorful, and a large portion. Absolutely tore it up. That said, the star of the plate was unexpectedly the sweet potato fries. They were crispy and had some kind of sweet sauce on them. Absolutely the best I've ever had. This review is for a pickup order but I imagine it's only better for dine in. The wife and I will absolutely be back. Do not miss this hidden gem. It's inside the Yard food hall and parking can be tricky but it's worth it.
