I had 2 storage units there both were broken into within a month a part I lost thousands of dollars they could of had better security there when you first start renting from them they say you must have your own insurance well I can see why they said to me all storage units. Have this problem they all get broken into there was no security cameras inside and then when you try to claim it on your insurance, you have to have receipts. I never knew this. BEWARE DO NOT PUT YOUR BELONGINGS IN THIS STORAGE! If I could give zero stars that would be too high for this place! We had our stuff stored at Shield Storage of North Jones Blvd beginning of March 2019. As full-time RVers, we trusted that our belongings would be safely stored here. We came back in December 2020 and checked on our unit with no issues. As we traveled the country in November 2021, we received a call from someone at the storage facility stating that the door to our unit had been partially kicked in and asking us to come down and open it. Being in Texas we couldn't come in and asked if it looked like it had been broken into? We were told it didn't look like it and that they would contact maintenance to try and get the door back on track. The next day I got another call from them stating that they didn't think our unit was broken into and that they got the door back on track, so all was good. April 2022 as we were traveling North to Montana for the summer, we made a stop in Vegas to see friends and check our storage unit. Upon opening the door, we immediately knew someone had been in our unit, and belongings were stolen. Boxes that were stacked neatly were all over the place. Guns we had stored in the back corner surrounded by boxes were gone. Boxes with family heirlooms and collectibles were stolen too. We had over $10,000 in belongings stolen. Finally, after four months the insurance paid us a measly $2000 for our stuff. In reality, after paying them for the past 3+ years it's more like $1500. This place makes you purchase insurance, but the insurance doesn't cover guns, collectibles, artwork, or really anything of value. It's a pure money maker for them. The manager showed no sympathy for our stuff being stolen all they care about is getting your money. They are also constantly raising the rents. March 2019 we paid $41/month for our 5x10 unit. May 2019 rent went up to $68/mo. In September 2019 it went up to $75/mo., September 2020 up to $85/mo., July 2021 up to $95/mo. and April 2022 up to $105/mo. Even if our stuff wasn't stolen we were planning to move our stuff out. Wonder how they have such high reviews? They offer a $10 credit for 5 Star Google Reviews. See attached pictures. I rented a unit for 4 months after I sold the house and needed a place to store my items until I got settled into my new residence. Entering and exiting the property with my code was easy. The property is clean, easy to drive through, and I felt safe during the many visits to my unit. I paid each month via automatic withdrawal. Want your Catalytic Converter Stolen? No of course not. However mine got recently stolen from 4850 N Jones with no remorse or consideration for a problem that cost over $1000 to repair. And I was not the only one. Good luck storing a vehicle in this place unless they improve security in 2022! The power tool that cut off my exhaust had to have been loud. I'm moving before they return. Three rate increases in three years with no meaningful improvement in security tells me the facility cares little about our assets. read more

A reasonable business owner might offer some compensation, a discount or something - but no. I'm having to fight to get my 50% off 2 month deal from the original agreement, not even asking for anything extra - and they still are unwilling to honor that. read more

Bait and switch. I've been with them for almost three years and every six to eight months they jacked up my rate. Twice by 11% and most recently by 23%. This is their standard playbook because they're betting most people aren't going to shop around, and move elsewhere. The only way you can avoid a rate hike in the first year is to pay up front for a whole year. But the other shady thing they do is even after spending over $8000 with them, because my credit card expired and I was late with one payment they charged me a late fee of $52. I've never been late on a payment until this one time. The thing that really irritated me is they didn't even tell me my card declined. It expired at the end of December, I didn't notice and so didn't update my auto pay. A bunch of subscription based businesses will email you in advance with a message like "your card is expiring soon". Even the ones that don't do that will email you immediately once the payment fails and give you a chance to rectify. They didn't do either of these things and instead waited 6 days until after the payment date and then emailed me a $52 late fee notice. I immediately called them, and after waiting 4 days for a response from management, they told me they would not be waiving their late fee. Well, thanks to this petty and short sighted approach I'll be taking my business elsewhere. It's just greed. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. More than 10 units in the same building broken into, including mine. Management was largely unhelpful and unwilling to even come to the property without a fight even given the large amount of people's items that were stolen and found in maintenance lockers and supposedly unused lockers. They let the poor front desk girl who had been working there for only four months take the brunt of these people's anger. She was in tears and her direct management was nowhere to be found and even refused to come in at all leaving it to the district manager. The property had trash scattered about and the secure pedestrian gate that was supposed to be locked was taped open. Do not give these people your business. I made a comment about not being able to afford it on my own, but my dad was with me & had full intentions of helping me pay for it. The manager said that since I said that, he felt no need to show us a unit or even take us to see one. No one should have to deal with such a rude manager, especially in a situation like this. I have been using this storage location for over 4 years. They have raised the rent 3 different times going from $99 up to $131 per month in 12/2019. That was the last straw for me.....wayyyy too expensive. When we went to vacate the unit, I could not locate the large flat carts that have always been available for us folks to use in the elevator on the second floor. I went to the office at 12:50pm only to find the office closed for lunch and he would not be returning until 2:00pm. (see my photo). At 2:00pm I returned to the front office to ask about the location of the carts. The manager "Dean" said "we had them stolen so we no longer leave them out, we keep them here in the office". I asked what are we supposed to do to get large furniture down from the second floor (using the elevator) and he said he could "loan" me another cart, but he needed to keep my drivers license. This "loaner" cart was half the size of the original ones and could not even come close to holding a couch or other furniture (see my photo). I expressed my displeasure with no prior notification that they no longer provide a large cart and his response was simply "sorry". Really???? So if I drove halfway across town to move furniture and there was no cart, what was I supposed to do? He again looked at me and said "sorry" with a half-a**ed look on his face. Also, the cart he did provide is not available while he takes his 1 hour and 10 minute lunch break, so good luck if you show up when he gets hungry like we did. I will never recommend this place. Poor customer service, way overprices, and a manager that needs to go back to school to learn some manners. read more

This facility was much better run before Shields took it over. They just seem more corporate minded and don't really answer the concerns of the customers. They keep raising their rates and fees and yet the customer service seems to be less and less. Alex, the owners assistant is nice, but Marshal, who is there during the week is not helpful at all, and is can be belligerent to customers. Instead of an independent owner kind of place it seems to have gone the way of corporate America and is only concerned about the bottom line. The facility was clean and has great access. The bad experience for me is every 6 months or so I got a letter "due to ongoing demand for units" and they raise rent in $25.00 increments. They also post signs everywhere that 10 days notice to vacate is required. When I went to give 10 days notice, I was informed that I must make a full month's payment as there are no prorations. This is all contrary to the person who originally signed me up for my unit told me! So, if you want to have your rent raised on a regular basis this is the place to go. If you are required to give 10 days notice do it 10 days before the next month is due. If these are month to month contracts notice shouldn't be necessary and the information I was given regarding prorating rent is absolutely false. Additionally, in the time I rented here, I was unable to make regular online payments. I had to physically drop off a payment or pay the additional fee to call in the payment, only recently has that been resolved. I looked around and found many nearby storage facilities that rent for 50% less. Again, not impressed. read more

This place is horrible. We rented three units here for the past 12 years when it was Storage One. Now Shield Storage bought it and it is the worst customer service and place to rent storage. First they raised our rates, then we were in the "climate controlled" building. It is about 100 degrees in there and they refuse to turn on the swamp coolers. We decided to move our three units to another facility. One of the managers (Marshal I believe), locked us out of the gate on a Sunday even though we were completely paid up. It took us an hour and a half to get in the gate. The place is always dirty. Marshal takes off for 2.5-3.5 hours during the middle of the day. The final blow was that after writing a bad review for the place on google reviews yesterday, we arrived to get the last load from the last unit we had rented this morning. "Someone"... not hard to figure out who.... had filled our lock with super glue so we couldn't get the lock open. There were no other locks filled with super glue... just ours. We left the unit at 2pm yesterday and arrived at 9:30 am today so we knew the manager had done this. Please consider carefully if you even think you need extra storage.... DO NOT RENT IT HERE!!!! read more

This location has very unique business practice the employee especially the day desk clerk Alex has no customer service skills. She is very rude and unware or doesn't care about repeated business for this location. On top of the fact that your treated horribly upon interaction with her the location has a terrible order upon entering the office an apology would be warranted for walking into such a disturbing smell in this location but all you get is rudeness. I have read a few of the reviews on this place and I have drawn the conclusion that the business is only receive do to convivence not customer service or property care . My suggestion is if you want to be treated with courtesy and care or having the feeling that your personnel items are being protected you might want to check-out the other locations in the city specifically the 4430 Simmons St 89031. Do NOT go here!!!! I've been at this location for over 1 year when they used to be storage one and I never had a problem but once they switched to Shield storage they tried to raise my rate by $50 total of $170 for 8 x 10 not only that management is very rude and locked me out of my unit and wouldn't let me move out unless I gave them my debit card info. I refused and paid cash. The "manager" Marshall is nothing but racist, lazy and all around Rude. He takes 3 hour lunches and locks the office and makes people wait to be seen while he eats. Also, once I moved out they over charged me, tried to say I abandon the unit when I told them I was moving out that day and Marshal refused to sign the release form releasing me from the unit and then emailed me repeatedly threatening me to continue to pay each month even though I was all moved out. What kind of Manger does that? Does he even know what customer service means? I would never recommend this place it is not secure I've witnessed people trying to break into units and management did nothing about it also they never answer the phone and They send a late notice two weeks after your due date so they could charge you a late fee even though you've already paid!!!!! I asked to speak to the Owner Robert and he NEVER called me back! Such a SCAM ARTIST! So happy to be done with these weird people that own this dump now!!!!!!! BEWARE! read more
