Sometimes, in my opinion, it did feel a bit less genuine/fake and it also felt like I was being rushed when I needed to call. It always seems like the front desk receptionists are in a hurry to hang up the phone. Dental/Appointments/Pricing: When I first started going to Island Dental, I loved my cleaning experience with the hygienist I was originally paired with but when she moved away, everyone after her that I had just seemed okay. My teeth never really felt truly amazingly clean as they had in the past with my primary hygienist in California. They really push the "boomcloud membership" which they raised the price multiple times since my first appointment. I personally think that for the quality of cleaning, it is extremely overpriced. Overall: After multiple appointments, still continuing the BoomCloud membership although my teeth never felt as clean as I would like them to be, I have decided that I would much rather go back to California to my primary dentist than to continue with Island Dental. Sure, it is beautiful office and the hygienists and doctors were kind, but it just isn't worth the price for the experience. When I got there Holly was busy, Maria checked me in. The first thing she said to me was "we might not be able to do all your treatments today since you're late. Please sign all the forms and pay the balance of $550." I said what do you mean? The whole reason why I'm here today is that I don't want to get numbed multiple times. She said but you're late and time is tight. My machine is not up front so do you have a card? I said I texted Holly she's aware I'd be a little late, she rolled her eyes and said "I can see the message too". Who talks like that and who trained her? It took them 15 mins to check me in and I didn't even SEE the doctor's face till 11:45. Clearly my 13 mins was really a big deal lol. I am responsible for being 13 mins late but I believe Maria could work on her delivery better. If you want to gaslight patients cuz you're overbooked- you're arguing with the wrong person. I'd have no problem if I was told on the phone that me being late would delay my treatment- I probably would have turned around and rescheduled instead of driving half an hour to get there and be told that I cannot do all of my treatments which would of defeated the purpose. Dr.Patel ended up doing all my treatments as discussed- I want to make it clear that this review does reflect on her work, the hygienist, Dr Jamie(I believe she did my deep cleaning) and Holly. I'm more than disappointed by the front staff Maria and her unprofessionalism/rudeness. Holly witnessed the whole interaction and the fact that this wasn't brought up to the management is concerning. Every experience has been amazing, but it was my wisdom teeth removal with Dr. Kamal that drove me to finally write this review. I was terrified going in. I put off getting my wisdom teeth out for 5-7 years because my pain tolerance is laughably low (getting my ears pierced was traumatic enough). I had to get all 4 removed at once to relieve some pain I was experiencing, and from the first conversation, the team completely reassured me. They went over everything, post-op plans, expectations, recovery tips and made me feel like I was genuinely in good hands. But even then, I had no idea just how committed they were to making this comfortable for me. The surgery? Flawless. I didn't feel a single bit of pain or discomfort not before, during, or after. I'm someone who cries at a paper cut, so to walk away from oral surgery without pain? Truly a miracle. I chose IV sedation, and it was so easy , i fell asleep, and next thing I knew, I was at home, pain-free and minus four teeth. Recovery has been just as smooth. No pain, no issues, and if there ever was a moment of mild discomfort, Tylenol took care of it. I went in for my post-op checkup and everything is healing beautifully. Ill now be starting my invisalign journey with them. Dr. Kamal is amazing, and I still can't believe how positive this entire experience was. I couldn't have asked for a better team or outcome. For example, I drew a hygienist that spent about 10 minutes with me, then declared she was done; simultaneously there was a background conversation obsessed with nailing down my next appointment. However, I had an appointment today that turned it back around for me. The dental assistant was very kind, friendly, considerate, and competent. My new dentist, Dr. Brittany Cortes, could not have been nicer or more friendly or more professional! I had the first crown and part of the cleaning completed, and I was scheduled to return in May for the second crown and the other side of my cleaning. At that May appointment, they completed the cleaning but did not communicate to me until afterward that they were not going to place my crown that day. I was already frustrated by the lack of communication, but because of my schedule, I had to postpone the crown appointment until August. I decided to give the office the benefit of the doubt and hoped that this appointment would go smoothly. My appointment was at 11:00 a.m., and I arrived at 10:30 a.m. I was taken back around 11:10 a.m. Unfortunately, the crown did not fit. By after 3:00 p.m., I was being told that I would need to come back yet again. At that point, I explained that I needed this taken care of that day. I had already paid for the service months earlier, rearranged my schedule multiple times, and paid for childcare for both the previous appointment and this appointment. I arrived at 10:30 a.m. and did not leave until 5:25 p.m. -- almost SEVEN HOURS at the dental office for a crown appointment. I understand that complications can happen and sometimes a crown may not fit correctly. What I am most upset about is the repeated inconvenience, poor communication, and the amount of my time that has been wasted trying to complete a service I paid for months ago. If you have an entire day available to spend at the dentist and don't mind potentially having to return multiple times, then this may not bother you. But if you have work, children, childcare expenses, or a busy schedule, based on my experience I cannot recommend this office. I've had issues next door with the NP as well. Patients' time matters too. Only reason I'm giving two stars is because the oral surgeon that they have is excellent. I removed a wisdom tooth in May and it went smooth and I had no swelling afterwards.
