I give this place 3 stars. One for being in Fresno. Another for being reasonably priced. The third for being KBBQ! I really love kbbq.... I can't give anymore stars than that mostly because I'm spoiled with so many options out in LA that this place can not compete with but that is besides the point. This place doesn't have rice paper??? That's STRANGE! I was truly disappointed about that but whatever. And the kimchi was just not right tasting. Even the color was a bit off. The egg soup is BOMB though and the japchae was delicious! And we came at a great time because they were offering Lost Coast beers for only $2! But what is up with the brisket?! I mean... Just a terrible choice since the meat and fat ratio was very off and we were left with two fatty, unseasoned char sticks... Banchan: The japchae was overly sweet and kind of stale...? Glass noodles should not be that al dente. The pajeon was over cooked and cold. Did not end up touching much of the banchan besides the kimchi. Went in during a Monday lunch shift around 1pm and got the 1st lunch option. Very good bang for your buck. The workers tend to leave the fire on high so we had to adjust the flames at times. When we did get our grills changed, my girlfriend noticed that while the new grill was clean for the most part, the slots in the grill had some charred bits still on it which made our new grills smoke up a little in the beginning. Okay let's state the obvious: this isn't K-town LA, so just accept it and be thankful there's an all you can eat KBBQ in the valley when you're too lazy to cook at home. I've been wanting to try this place since I've moved back to the area. I see it all the time when I'm in Home Goods and noticed it didn't look particularly busy. Some friends and I decided last minute on a Friday night to try this place out. The low rating from others seem to be about the service, but that night, our server was on top of it! We unanimously chose option 1 as it had everything we wanted anyway. Honestly $21/pp isn't that bad. Try living in the Midwest! We've had the bulgogi, flank, shrimp, and steak. All decent tasting. There was a separate person going around to change grills - didn't bother us. Our drinks were refilled in a timely manner, and we didn't have to flag anyone down. Only one down side to the establishment: the limited selection of banchan that was available. I know the ajumma's know how to make more! Anyway, I've given an average rating for an average place. I've eaten at many Korean BBQ places around southern California and Shila i would rate as OK, i've had better and i've had worst. I'd like to give em 3.5 stars really but i'll round up cause its their grand opening and cut em some slack. Food was good in the context that we're in Fresno/Clovis and really don't have any choice in the matter. meat was good quality but could use more marinate. Price was good. $11.99 for ayce lunch is fine by me. I just hope Shila can work out their kinks in the coming weeks. The waiters were much too slow, too many times i ran out of meat, my salad didn't get refilled quick as i would of liked, there was no rice paper for my meat, but i'm still happy to have them here in the central valley. Liked the food! The service was okay. However, I felt like I was being stared at many times throughout my meal. Never felt like that in any other restaurant I had been to. The lady at the front desk kept staring at my table for long periods. We were trying to enjoy our food but couldn't since the atmosphere was uncomfortable. It happened today, we were the first family to sit down for the day. My niece even asked why the worker kept staring at us and I did not know how to answer it. What a pleasant surprise to find in the Central Valley. Went for lunch and was impressed the moment I walked in. The decor is very lovely and makes one feel like they are dining in a very upscale and expensive restaurant but I found the prices to be extremely reasonable especially for Korean bbq. I'm so used to Korean restaurants being sort of older and a little shabby, this was anything but. When we sat down our kim chi and a Korean pancake were already waiting for us. We ordered off the all you can eat lunch menu for a very affordable $12.99. We started with bolgogi, bbq chicken and brisket. Everything was very good. The bolgogi was the best I've had in a long time and I've been on a Korean bbq binge the last several weeks. Theirs was very tastey. We then had top sirloin and pork belly which were both. ..eh...went back to the bolgogi to finish off or meal. Super yum! Besides the bolgogi, the Korean pancake was what will make me want to come back everytime I'm in town. I've either never had it or I've never had one so good because this was amazing and memorable. The flavor and texture were so wonderful. Wish I had some now. (Drool) Service was very attentive without being intrusive. The place gets a little smokey, they say vents work but they arent strong enough. The bugogi is good, spicy port belly is the best and beef brisket is not too bad. Meat plates came out a little slow. The meat plates are small so it goes fast. It wasn't the servers fault, the plates are just smaller them what I'm use to so there are instances where you are waiting for meat. Wait is 1.5 to 2 hours in average, normal for kbbq even in LA. Cast iron grill is new, meat cooks better on these then stainless steel. Great place for lunch, not so much for dinner. read more

It was a different experience having to cook your own food. I dined with my family of 7, one of my two kids didn't really care for the food. She didn't like chewing on the fat of meats that were served to us. The shrimp was her favor, but my son isn't a picky eater and LOVED the pork belly. The meats that were served were something...some of the meats were well seasoned and others lacked any flavor. The beef tongue that I ordered was previously frozen and not seasoned. I also felt bad for the waitress that night. It seems that she was the only one on the floor and it showed due to the long waits and mistakes that I saw. I don't eat pork and I requested my own pair of tongs and any pork meat to be separated when served. Both requests took 20 minutes. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and I have yet to be disappointed. Some meats that I have ordered and recommend would be the brisket, bulgogi, spicy bulgogi, and the short ribs. A plus to this yummy collection of meat is also the side dishes that are given beforehand, I am particularly a fan of the japchae (hint hint) and they're free refill! The meat is self-grill, giving the customers a chance to experience the thrill of cooking their own meat and serving it. The protein is typically marinated beforehand and gives the meat a juicy flavor. (I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.) I think it's time to write a review for this restaurant. It's way overdue for the review! I've been holding back. It's Fresno Baby! Anyways first off, I came here back when it was a big hype the first week it opened! It was always packed and some people were confused about the place. To me I was surprised that they even opened a Korean BBQ in Fresno, I'm so use to either Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, Korean BBQ or Yakinuku a.k.a Japanese BBQ. I've been to all of them basically all styles of servings. This Korean BBQ has its up and downs from time to time. Pros: Pricing, Location (if you don't want to travel far), Quantity of Meats (when it first opened), Service (varies each day), and environment. Cons: Pricing (there are now two or three locations of Shila all have different pricing), Quality (I mean it's Fresno, but I wish they can improve the quality of the meats), Flavor (there are times some of the bulgogi is bland also the salad I wish they change the seasoning), and Service (there aren't enough servers compared to when they opened, there was a lot of servers back then, and then now it's just skeleton crew sometimes). There are plenty of ways to improve in which they are implementing in the other locations they are opening. I noticed the big change when I went to the Shaw Ave location. The sides are now a buffet style self serve compared to the East Herndon location they serve it you. I mean either one it's still eat all you can . All in all I really think this place is not bad it's Central Valley! The owner is smart for thinking of opening here in the Valley everyone is scared of opening one so yeah I give props to the owner! read more

I've been back a few times since my first time and I have not been disappointed so far. Word of advice to many out there. If you plan on going clubbing or any festivities after eating here, you may want to go home and change first. I definitely smell like food after leaving. Now a few things I've noticed since my first few times here. First of all, it seems that the staff had figured the more often they change the grill the less smoke that is bound to be had. It seems that they change the grill before it gets crusty and ugly. Thumbs up for that! The portions appear to be a bit larger too. It used to be that we'd order our meats and would finish one plate off sooner than we expected. The shaved ice was pinkish or reddish today. It wasn't bad but I don't recall it being like this before. The shaved ice definitely looked larger. Now as for the service. Our server was attentive and prompt. He was a total sweetheart too and made our experience a pleasant one. I wish I could've caught his name so I could recommend him here. Overall most of the staff I've met here have been very nice and I've not complaints so far. Very bad service when me and my husband walked in the lady didn't even greet us and kept drinking her tea and took her time didn't even apologize or say hi. And we just stood there waiting until she finally just said two and didn't even ask us if when have been here before or anything. And so we just ordered and guessed that water would be free and it was a bottle and they were trying to change us 1$ a bottle every time and we didn't know I had to go to the front to get more water but I didn't know they were trying to charge us every-time. went in on a Wednesday for dinner and order the $21.99 per person option, which just comes with an extra item: Whole shrimp & steak. End up spending around $100 not including tips, gets pretty expensive for party of 3. Went in, no wait line and greeted by the hostess, pretty good so far. Waited less than 5 mins for the table to be prep and the waitress came and explain how the menu items work. Pretty simple after the explanation. Basically you choose what menu items (all you can eat items) you want (basically meat) BUT you only get 3 choice of meat per order because that's all that will fit into the grill that is in front of you. Center Grill: wish I had a bit of small oil to oil up the grill because the meats really sticks to this grill and gets annoying. The other annoying thing is controlling the heat, the controller is on the side where the waitress usually stand so if you want to turn up or down, you'll have to get up and do it. First round: traditional bulgogi - was good, would re-order, lightly season but enjoyed it bbq chicken - basic lightly season, some white meat and dark meat mixed together Whole shrimp - it's whole alright, with heads and shell all in tack and you will only get 7 or so, no season, just plain on shrimp with the shell on. Second round: bbq chicken - again, it was good Whole shrimp - again spicy chicken - not spicy at all, just a hint of hot, needs a lot more peppers to make it hot, overall an okay marinate Third round: steak - has too much fat, really oil up the grill and not season at all, just a plain steak sirloin - again, so plain that you will need some sort of salt and black pepper to help you season it Whole shrimp - again, eh I gotta make the extra $3 dollars worth it BUT the number got cut down to 4 or 5 Could not go a 4th round. Desert - shaved ice with fruit toppings, this thing is HUGE, could not finish it all. It's just shaved ice with condense milk as a final topping and hint of coconut flavoring in the ice. I am not going back to this place because I paid a lot of money and end up cooking for myself. If I wanted to cook for myself, I would have stayed home and at least get to season the meats that I put on the grill. So if you like basic marinated Korean food, you are better off sitting at home with your buddies drinking some beer and grilling on your own grill, heck even the $20 camping grill will have better flavor than the gas grill there. read more

No water cup, so you have to pay for water bottle side dishes and meats were not fresh or seemed like it was not. My craving for Korean barbecue keeps me coming back here every couple of months, but each time I'm reminded why I absolutely do not like Shila Korean BBQ. The flavor, quality, and service pales in comparison to other Korean barbecues in California. The fact that this is the only all you can eat Korean barbecue in Fresno and is still very much vacant throughout the day says a lot about the experience here. To put it bluntly, if Shila was in another area like LA or Orange County, they would be out of business in less than a month. It's the only Korean BBQ around where you get to grill your own meats so your food is always hot and cooked to your liking. Happily, it is very good and it has gotten even better since they opened a few months ago. Go for lunch and avoid Sundays since they jack up the price on that day and for dinner. We love the bulgogi, squid, sweet shrimp and spicy chicken. Avoid the tongue, it is a bit tough and it is not marinated. Order the spicy tofu soup to go with the meats, it is very good and it's included. I like the pancake but it is best early when it is still hot. Thereafter, I throw slices on the grill as I go. Steamed rice and unlimited ban chan also included. Too bad the beer selection is not great (no ales or IPA). Service and parking is always good. I have never seen a line, YAY! The service is up-and-down: we've visited five times and had both great and mediocre service. Because the style of the restaurant is a barbecue in the center of the table where are you grill your own meat (brought raw by the waiter), it is a fun dining experience if you are patient and want to enjoy the company of your dining companions. It is all-you-can-eat with a great selection of meats and various sides included with the meal; you can try everything on the list and even picky eaters will find something to enjoy. It was a day for cleaning and laundry, my child was asking for Korean bbq. Since we haven't been here since pre-pandemic we decided to come try them. For sure not worth 130 for 3 people. It's 1pm and we were told to only order from the dinner menu. Then we had to pay for water bottles. To top that off all the side dishes were cold, the japchep noodle was cold and hard. The meat selection were limited. It's not worth the experience at all. The server was trying to be nice and be very attentive to us but the food quality is not there. There is nothing special about the experience here. There were tables that got lettuce and rice wraps, there were tables that got cups of ice with their water bottles. My boyfriend, His friend and I all went together one day and When we were eating most of the server were nice and got everything done quickly but just one short Asian woman didn't even wanna serve us , she kept staring at us from afar like if we were going to run out and not pay . I called her so many times and said excuse me but she literally looked at me and kept walking away. She got someone else to do our table and she went to go help another table that call her for help after us. SHE EVEN GOT THE WOMAN AT THE FRONT TO HELP US WHILE SHE DOES NOTHING .
