Clean and quiet! I stayed here one night while visiting family. It's more of a motel than hotel (doors of rooms open to the parking lot). The room was exceptionally clean (great job, housekeeping!) and spacious. The large window in my room had a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. The bed had a very comfortable mattress, probably the best I've had at any hotel. The room had microwave, fridge, TV with cable, and coffee maker. There were the usual sundries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap) and plenty of towels. A desk was also in the room. The jovial manager, Lance, was very kind and helpful when I couldn't figure out the remote to the TV. It wasn't very difficult I was just exhausted and brain dead after a day with family. Admittedly some of the furnishings could stand to be updated and the bathtub/shower diverter valve was weird (a thin one you push or pull) but otherwise I thought this was a great place to stay in Newport. I think a lot of the low-rated reviews were mistakenly expecting a luxury Vegas Strip hotel. 4.5 stars! read more

Rusty baseboard heater that doesn't work. The blanket is far too light for an unheated room. The bed is falling apart. Dirty bathtub. Dirty stained carpets. Very few accessible outlets to charge your phone. Archaic TV, has no streaming channels. Remote barely worked. Generally feels unsafe. It's sad because it has beautiful views of the ocean. I'm really not sure why this hotel has such bad reviews. For the price, it was a great stay! It was under $100 including taxes and fees and we got a prime ocean view, very clean room, and the bedding, shower, countertops, etc all seemed new and updated. Room also had a decent sized tv, mini fridge, and microwave. The only down side (and the reason we probably won't come back unfortunately) is the pool is not very kid friendly. We stayed here for the Newport Seafood & Wine fest. I rallied a large group of friends, thinking their bar/nightclub was still open but it is closed "indefinitely". That was a real bummer because it's where we wanted to party after he event. The price was $225 for 2 queens so I am guessing the price hike was due to the event that weekend because other reviewers were saying it is half that. The beds were comfy but the blankets were almost as thin as the sheets. The room was really hot the kind of cold in the morning but overall, not too bad. Our room was also very spacious and clean. I think every room has an ocean view. Or at least in the D building the seem to. That was lovely. We were not close to the wine fest but they did have a free shuttle - which was very helpful. Overall. I would stay here again. I feel the club closure is due to staffing shortages (ie people not wanting to go back to work) so that isn't the hotels fault. The first thing we noticed were damaged floor tiles in the elevator. We stayed on the pet floor. When the elevator doors opened, you saw a stained carpet, next the smell of urine and deodorizer hit you. The room smelled horrible. Light bulbs were missing. There was only one night stand, the other night stand was a really old computer desk. There was mold in the window frames. There was no TV guide. Both restaurants were closed. The sparrows nesting in the parking garage crapped all over our car. The bed was OK, and the view of the ocean was fantastic. Of course the window had bird crap all over it. Let's start with the positive. Friendly front desk staff who offered great suggestions for dining. The room was clean with a refrigerator and microwave. Great view from your window. Downtown is within walking distance, and there is a path leading to the beach. The not so great. The hotel restaurant was closed indefinitely and up for sale, the pool was drained, rooms were dated, and could use an upgrade. Location is everything --and really the only thing-- with this hotel. Grew up going to Shilohs but this is by far the most foul building I've stayed in. Parking garage is rusted pipes and bird nests. The elevator stays in turtle time. The rooms were extremely outdated. Tv worked well only sporadically. No channel guide. No AC during the summer makes for a muggy and gross room. What a shithole this hotel is. You do not want room 342 or anything near it. The rain gutter on the roof right outside the window is totally rusted away so there isn't any bottom or anything securing it to the roof. All night long, we had to listen to it going "Bang, Bang, Bang" while the rusty metal flapped in the wind and slapped around. I hope nobody is injured or any cars damaged when this 20 foot long section of rusted metal falls off the roof and lands in the parking lot below. read more

After a long drive this was Not a good experience - sun down, poor service, green pool (staff Provided a total BS explanation to a guest in front of us as to why one pool was clear, while the other was murky and green) beds were brick hard, no AC, etc... we ate in the restaurant, and the food was actually decent, but the service very fragmented, we ultimately had 3 different servers in one meal - bizarre. What didn't help (but wasn't really the fault of the hotel) was a child running and jumping in the room directly above ours late at night (after 10 PM) and early in the morning (6am). We called the front desk and no one answered for at least 10 minutes. After multiple complaints nothing was accomplished - the soccer game above us continued. Our relatives stayed in a second room adjacent to ours and requested a rollaway bed for one of the children. Shilo charged 25.00 for the bed, which we didn't end up using because it was disgusting, full of urine stains and smelled awful. We will return to Newport but not the Shilo Inn... what an absolute disappointment. read more

If I could give less stars I would. This place is a breeding ground for germs and has pinkeye in EVERY corner. The showers pressure is all to high hell and is straight up toxic. All there is for A/C is a teeny tiny fan that leaves much to be desired. The kitchenette is mediocre at best once you get past the FILTH. And it is EVERYWHERE. There is no channel card for the tv which isn't a problem, but most other motels do. The front desk gave out s the WRONG KEYCARD and gave our neighbors ours. Light bulbs are missing EVERYWHERE and stains take most of the carpet. The restaurants were closed and there was limited maid service. The beach was close, which was nice, but homeless people lived in the parking garage. The elevator tiles were destroyed and cracked with a cheap rug covering them. This was non-refundable and I want my money back. Almost all good reviews are talking about the now closed restaurant and the view that is now fogged and dirty. So far our stay has been absolutely ridiculous. No lights in the pool area, no hot tub/spa and no public restrooms in the lobby area, also we got to the room and every room around has us is vacant with the windows open very unsecured! We have been here since early afternoon and there is a room that looks like it was being cleaned but the cleaner just left door wide open and the cleaning cart is still sitting in front of that room plus there is a huge garbage bag just sitting out on the deck with the trash spilling out it's disgusting! We also needed to get a load of laundry done but their washer and dryer are broken. In our room right away my kids found a plate with food on it and 6 other items of trash I would never recommend this place to anyone we paid way to much for the WORST hotel!!!!! read more

Yuck. Cleanliness is my number one unspoken rule for hotels. Unspoken because it just should be clean. You shouldn't have to request it. The room didn't seem fully clean. I found a cracker on the floor and someone else's hair. Yuck. Aside from being unclean, the room was pretty dated and had some issues. The hair drier was broken and the sink faucet was backwards for hot vs cold. Overall, I'd rather stay elsewhere. But it is right on the beach, which is nice. read more

Wow! Just wow! Spent last weekend in this has-been hotel. All I can say is, I can see why the owner of this chain is going bankrupt slowly but surely! If I could give negative stars, I would! I'll just cover the low points. 1) Exterior of all the buildings could use a facelift. From peeling paint to rusted exterior pipes, it kind of had a yuck factor! The inside hallways weren't much better with the dated carpet that even had wear holes in it, 2) Room appeared clean at first blush, but after cutting my foot on a piece of broken glass by the bed, it was apparent that vacuuming is optional for the housekeeping staff! The beautiful picture window on our 3rd floor room looked like it hadn't been cleaned outside since before the pandemic. 3) WTF is up with only providing 2 towels in a room that could sleep 4? We went to the office to get a couple more, but they said they didn't have any in the office. Housekeeping would bring us some. Guess again, people! They never did! First, the negative. No parking garage makes finding a nearby place close to the Inn is a nightmare. Of the two pools, only one is available and the water is so cold it will freeze you balls off. The bed is as soft as quicksand and just as comfortable. There is no in house resturant or food service. There is no maid service. The room is old and shows its wear. You are paying only for the location. Let's speak first to the view. The view was unobstructed and breathtaking. So, that adds a star to their otherwise negative star rating. The staff seemed overwhelmed and clearly understaffed. The rooms are dated (circa 1988?) The sink was cracked. The bathroom looked unclean but it could have just been worn out and rusted. The walls are paper thin. It's possible they allow elephants to rent the floor over ours. The room itself was pretty gross. And they are very stingy on the bath towels. This booking was a last minute, spur of the moment trip, otherwise we would have checked the Yelp reviews from other folks that stayed at this no tell motel. Moral of the story? First, the good. The view out the window is fabulous. I like that there is a table and two chairs by the window. The water is very hot. I consider that a plus. Nothing seems to be wrong with the television. For the state of the building, the price is too high. There is no air-conditioning. The windows need to be cleaned and possibly sandpapered with mirror finish sandpaper. The heaters have rust on them. The curtains felt kind of stiff with salt, indicating that they need to be washed. The bathroom has a hook missing on the back of the door. When we came in, the coffee was there, and a coffee maker was there, but there was nothing for the coffee maker to drip into. A lightbulb was burned out, and when we called for it to be replaced, they said they had no one to do maintenance, and they didn't know if they had any lightbulbs. Some of the finishes are just kind of old and worn. They need to replace the carpets. The guests were extremely noisy moving through the halls, with running children and loud adults. The parking garage just felt a little unsafe. I don't think that the door lock going into the elevator Is functional, which doesn't feel very safe. I don't like that I would have to go to another building to access the swimming pool for the hotel. The screen was broken. There weren't enough towels in the bathroom, and when we called for extra towels, we were told that no one was available to bring them immediately. When one is showering in the morning, one expects to be able to use enough towels. Also, there were no luggage racks in the room. There was only one elevator servicing the entire hotel with four floors. It was extremely slow, and they need to add elevators or something to handle the amount of rooms that it's servicing. read more

The view was amazing. The room was so-so. I spent some hours late at night just watching the ocean. Bring a set of binoculars because we saw whales just hanging out. The stairs down to the beach were pretty steep so be careful. New TV, old clock radio, old mini fridge and microwave. We were on the 4th floor and parked in the garage. One of the bed mattresses was broken. It was bad because the upper half of the bed had no spring to it. The kids slept there. The staff doesn't like where they work, lobby music was metal, first room hadn't been cleaned and had dried vomit all over toilet, shampoo had been used already and soap on faucet from prior guest. We were moved to a new room right away after I called them. There is NO air conditioner in your room....why?!? I can't survive without an ac, but there is a tiny table top fan you can prop in your tiny window opening. No free breakfast either, parking is underground with an extremely steep driveway that sounds like the bottom of my car will never recover from. When booking my website said breakfast included, but this location only gives you 20%off if you bring your room key. Comfort inn is across the street and includes a continental breakfast for free and isn't ancient. Beds are good, shower had best water pressure I have ever had at the beach. If I could give zero stars I would. My partner and I are staying here and they told us they would clean the room and provide new bedding/towels and clean every thursday. They told us we had to bag up our own sheets and towels and make our own bed. House cleaning NEVER CAME. We went down to the front office 4 times for more towels and to ask about cleaning. they took our info and said house cleaning would come. they never did. we had to buy our own toilet paper. when we asked for AT LEAST more towels they said they "couldn't leave the front desk". They told us to call the front desk for towels later even though there was no phone in our room! The room itself was dirty, old and disgusting when we got there. The room smelled like bad BO. There was pee on the base of the toilet uncleaned. The sheets and pillow cases were stained and disgusting. we had to buy our own to even sleep there because they wouldn't replace them. one of the windows was missing a screen and a light bulb was out. I told them about the window and light and they did not care or fix it. The front desk lady was EXTREMELY rude and unhelpful. Don't stay here. read more

So, the company I work for booked me a room here. Now I understand why my co-workers opted to stay in Lincoln City and drive the extra one hour to our work site. Now, I must say, that the first go around was ok. I was in the D building, which had been upgraded and was pleasant. Nothing over the top amazing. Just your normal hotel. But, I did notice that they marked cut lines on some of the tiles in the shower which got me wondering how well they actually clean the shower if there are are still cut lines that appeared to be pencil. My second stay a week later, I was in the B building. Clearly not updated. I noted rust on the wall heater. Almost used the mini fridge but changed my mind once I opened it. I was there for four days and am ok with not having my sheets changed everyday, or reusing a towel twice but I would expect them to clean the tub/sink each day, which they didn't do. On my last day, I used a new towel and a gold fish cracker fell out. How does that happen? I also have to say, the housekeeping staff wear everyday clothes (no uniform or name badge) so when they deliver extra (stained) comforters to your room, it's a little scary as a young, single women, to answer your door. read more

We stayed in building D, which from the reviews I hear it's the nicer unit. I liked the room. Nice TV with a great selection to watch. Ocean right out in front of us. I brought my own pillow because all hotel pillows suck but the bed wasn't too bad for a hotel bed. It's a 90 step staircase to the beach, so be aware of that if you can't do stairs for health reasons. I'd give this four stars on the room alone and the access to the pools, but I do have some concerns. 1. The website insinuated that there was a fitness room. I went to the desk for directions and they let me know only some shilo inns do and not that one but many many customers think there is. That's not cool. 2. Neither is the room....it was so so so hot all night long but I couldn't keep the windows open because..... 3. There were no screens and I have small children that I would worry about and birds and rain and and what have you. TL;DR: Bring your own pillow Don't go here if you can't climb stairs unless you don't need to visit the beach. Stay in building D. No fitness room. Two pools. One is very cold. Bed doesn't suck. Kids can fall out windows and birds can fly in. Good value if you can get it for 100 or less a night. read more

Towels: the room was Booked for 5, there was 2 towels and 1 wash cloth and one hand towel, no big deal we can call down ask for more right. No. The next day we were still getting told there were coming at some point but housekeeping isn't in right now or there aren't any clean etc. an hour before check out we ask for the 3rd time and again got the run around, so I requested late check out in so we could show once our towels arrived, suddenly towels were available immediately. read more

The best thing about this place was the view. The hotel is absolutely horrible. They are charging over $250 a night for a dilapidated hotel. We were literally missing light bulbs in our lamps. The room was very dated an dingy. Homeless people in the parking garage, outside doors wide open to the building so anyone off the street could come in. Very musty and dated. Hotel elevator had broken floor tiles with a carpet just thrown over it. Elevator was very shaky and needed maintenance. It was a disturbing experience.. Motel 6 would have been better.
