    Beautiful view!

Rusty baseboard heater that doesn't work. The blanket is far too light for an unheated room. The bed is falling apart. Dirty bathtub. Dirty stained carpets. Very few accessible outlets to charge your phone. Archaic TV, has no streaming channels. Remote barely worked. Generally feels unsafe. It's sad because it has beautiful views of the ocean. I think the staff tries to keep what they are working with nice. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. The building requires major repairs and remodeling.

The Shilo Oceanfront is a great value for the money, and you can't beat the location. I can watch the ocean right from my window! The staff was very helpful and courteous and I would gladly stay here again the next time I'm in Newport. I was able to park right by my room and had immediate access to the beach via stairs adjacent to the parking lot.

I'm really not sure why this hotel has such bad reviews. For the price, it was a great stay! It was under $100 including taxes and fees and we got a prime ocean view, very clean room, and the bedding, shower, countertops, etc all seemed new and updated. Room also had a decent sized tv, mini fridge, and microwave. The only down side (and the reason we probably won't come back unfortunately) is the pool is not very kid friendly. The whole thing is pretty much 5-8 feet deep besides when you first step in.

View from window....it was very foggy

Let's start with the positive. Friendly front desk staff who offered great suggestions for dining. The room was clean with a refrigerator and microwave. Great view from your window. Downtown is within walking distance, and there is a path leading to the beach. The not so great. The hotel restaurant was closed indefinitely and up for sale, the pool was drained, rooms were dated, and could use an upgrade. There did not appear to be maid service as our rooms were not taken care of the three days we stayed.

It had Poor expectations after my last Shilo Inn stay elsewhere. The Newport Shilo Inn is a hidden shining. Diamond when yoi get inside the room! Also it felt very safe. I suggest 1 pring their own pilliows as theirs were hard.

    Worst. AC. Ever.

If I could give less stars I would. This place is a breeding ground for germs and has pinkeye in EVERY corner. The showers pressure is all to high hell and is straight up toxic. All there is for A/C is a teeny tiny fan that leaves much to be desired. The kitchenette is mediocre at best once you get past the FILTH. And it is EVERYWHERE. There is no channel card for the tv which isn't a problem, but most other motels do. The front desk gave out s the WRONG KEYCARD and gave our neighbors ours. Light bulbs are missing EVERYWHERE and stains take most of the carpet. The restaurants were closed and there was limited maid service. The beach was close, which was nice, but homeless people lived in the parking garage. The elevator tiles were destroyed and cracked with a cheap rug covering them. This was non-refundable and I want my money back. Almost all good reviews are talking about the now closed restaurant and the view that is now fogged and dirty. The pool was so revolting that we never got in, and I'm happy we didn't because I'm pretty sure three hundred diseases in every square inch. Never come here. Please don't give them business. Do not book a room. Do not.

Room that has been open for all day!!!!

However, - There was zero recycling. We're surrounded by natural magnificence and it killed me to throw out glass, plant and paper in one bin. - Staircases to the beach were treacherous and wooden. Salt air destroys wood, making the descent to the beach scary and splinter-y. The wooden stairs to the beach near the restaurant were particularly dangerous. Areas of the stairs did not have the greenery trimmed back, and at the bottom you have to step through dirty silty water. Those stairs are a lawsuit waiting to happen. - The cement staircases inside the hotel actually had danger signs posted. I fear for older people... Yes, there's an elevator, but.... - No ventilation in bathroom. - The built-in heater screen was filthy and hairy-- possible fire hazard? - the bath/shower had a filthy very used rubber bath mat. No thanks. The 1950s are long gone. The very considerate and well-meaning Doggie gift bag was nice, but someone needs to let the hotel know that hard plastic frisbees break dogs' teeth, the plastic water bottles were not safe BPA plastic, so we just left it behind. Great idea in hospitality, but need an upgrade. So, I had to take away a star.

Pros: We had a nice spacious 3rd floor room with a great view of the beach. The hotel has nice amenities like great toiletries that smell lovely, nice robe and a balcony plus a fireplace. Shower had 3 separate water nozzles which was fun! (Although took a minute to figure out how to use) Heated infinity Jacuzzi pool was wonderful! Fire pits near the pool also great! The front desk people were all very nice. The place was clean and they had cookies in the lobby that we tried one day (yum!) Cons: I was disappointed that they apparently did away with the made to order breakfast that they have pictured in their website. Instead of the items pictured was a Continental breakfast delivered in little plastic containers in a box. It was not bad taste wise, and I definitely appreciated the hard boiled egg as a bit of protein along with all the carbs. But it would have been nice to know of this change before booking. Price is fairly high for the cold month of March. We asked about the sofa bed getting set up for our 3rd person in the room and were told we needed to make it ourselves. For the price we paid it would have been nice that they could have sent someone to set up the sofabed, that was weird, and unexpected. Kind of felt like something a much lower end hotel would ask you to do. I debated between 3 and 4 stars since there were both good and bad points. If there was a 3.5 stars option this is what i'd choose honestly. I'd come back again but only if I got a much better rate.

The last visit was phenomenal…read more Based on the prior experience my wife and I decided to return to this location with high expectations. We were not disappointed. I started this experience with the Whiskey Fog. This is an absolutely fantastic start for the evening, see the photos for the description of this cocktail and watch the video to see the presentation. I had tried this cocktail on the last visit and I have been dreaming about it ever since. This cocktail was every bit as perfectly executed as the first one I tried. From the presentation I the last swallow was absolutely perfect. Next was the appetizer. I selected the Deviled Eggs. I chose the Southwest, Dill Pickle, and Sweet Bourbon Bacon. They were flavorful and well prepared and the presentation was excellent. A very impressive start of the meal. I highly recommend this item. Please see the photos for the description and presentation. For the main dish I selected the Prosciutto Scallops. I do not order Scallops very frequently because I am seldom satisfied with the outcome. Scallops are very easily over cooked. However I felt adventurous and intrigued by the menu's description of the dish. I was not disappointed in the least. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the layers of flavor are very well balanced, perfectly executed, and well thought out. There again, the presentation was excellent. Please see the photos for the description of the dish and the presentation. My wife ordered the Orange Cauliflower and the Stir Fried Quinoa. She in the past has worked at a number of very high end restaurants that serve very sophisticated palates. It is not uncommon for her to spot unfavorable qualities in the cuisine the she is served. She also understands the difficulties involved with restaurants that endeavor to create higher quality food. That being said she was impressed and completely satisfied with her experience. I would like to thank Alli C. our server for the evening. Her hospitality and attentiveness were outstanding. She was definitely a major factor in our very enjoyable evening. I highly recommend this location if you are in Newport Oregon and are looking for a very relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

We stayed at The Allred for a little over a week while traveling with our extended family. There…read morewere seven of us, and we stayed in House 134, the four-bedroom, 1.5-bath rental across the street from the hotel. The biggest positive was the location. The ocean views from the living room and the primary bedroom are absolutely beautiful and were one of the highlights of our stay. There were, however, a few things I wish had been disclosed on the website before booking. First, housekeeping is not provided for the rental homes, regardless of the length of your stay. This also means toiletries are not restocked. By the middle of the week, we ended up purchasing our own supplies. This may be standard for some vacation rentals, but it would have been helpful to know ahead of time since it's different from what many guests expect at a hotel. The biggest issue for our family was the layout of the home. There are three to four steps leading down into the primary bedroom, and there is no handrail. My elderly in-laws stayed in that room and had difficulty navigating the stairs. I think this is important information for anyone with mobility concerns. The primary bedroom also does not have an attached bathroom. The half bath is located off the laundry room near the kitchen, on the opposite side of the house, while the full bathroom is in the hallway. For older guests, a few simple safety features like grab bars and a non-slip surface in the bathroom would make a significant difference. I'm not expecting a fully ADA-compliant rental, but some basic accessibility considerations would go a long way. One thing the photos don't really capture is the scale of the furnishings. The home photographs beautifully, and the décor is very stylish, but it felt more like a staged model home than a place designed for a week-long stay. The living room had a very small, low three-person sofa and decorative accent chairs that looked nice but weren't particularly comfortable for relaxing as a larger family. The three smaller bedrooms would also benefit from having dressers or additional storage for guests staying more than a night or two. The kitchen was clean and attractive, but if you plan on cooking most of your meals--as many families do when renting a home--it could use a better selection of cookware. We found the knives, pots, and pans to be fairly limited for preparing meals. Overall, we enjoyed the beautiful views and convenient location, but I think providing more detailed information about the home's layout, amenities, and accessibility would help future guests decide whether it's the right fit for their needs.

So it literally has everything going for it, along with cozy reading nooks, both in the lobby and in the attic on the fourth floor. This property also features a restaurant and community space on its lower level, which we did not utilize during our stay. We stayed in the Maya Angelou suite which is rather large compared to the other rooms and is oceanfront with a semi private balcony, all reasons why I selected it. Note: The bathroom in this suite is tiny, narrow and has an upper window located in the shower which is great for airflow and ventilation but faces the public balcony, so if the window is open and people are on that balcony, you will hear them. Overall we had a peaceful and relaxing stay, exactly what we needed. Our arrival was great. The person who checked us in was welcoming, friendly and super helpful. He gave us a restaurant recommendation that we went to and thoroughly enjoyed. But unfortunately the next day, that staff member was not present. Coffee service in the lobby was inconsistent, unreliable and the customer service was nonexistent. Two people were at the front desk and neither could be bothered to greet us. When we approached them it seemed as if they were bothered by our presence. This won't prevent me from coming back or recommending it because the setting was so lovely and the location is excellent, but I would be cautious of the inconsistent service that could possibly derail the experience.
