As an alumnus of Montana state, I have lots of fond memories of going to Lapa with my friends. It's not quite the same going to the new building as compared to the house the place used to be in, but the food is just as good. My go to is the steak Bombay bomburrito and it is incredible. I noticed they had a house style choice now with selections of toppings the house recommends. I went for that and it was fantastic although I missed the black olives I would usually add. Fast casual/communal dining similar to Chipotle but with soups. Five varieties you can order either a cup or bowl. We went right for the jambalaya however. Comes with chicken, shrimp and anduille(?) sausage. You add fixings like chopped jalapenos, corn salsa, cheese, spinach etc. the bowl isn't quite big enough to share but we weren't super hungry after the downtown Christmas stroll so it hit the spot. read more

My husband and I were cafe-hopping before this, so we weren't quite hungry when we showed up, but we still wanted to sample Lapa's fare- and we are so glad we did! Being back in Bozeman brings back the best memories of growing up....one of which is La Parilla. So of course I had to stop in while visiting. I remember the old days of the little La Pa house. I had visited that place more times than I can count, having lived in Bozeman for 22 years. Well they've changed their location and upped their game by merging with the Soup Shack (which was also a favorite growing up) and a brewery. But thank heavens their burrito menu has stood the test of time and remained the same. Over the years I had a few favorites from the fajita burrito to the one of a kind wrap of khan...but for some reason whenever I visit now I have to get the barbecue chicken with corn salsa and black beans (order it just like that and thank me later). It is so smokey and spicy, I LOVE it. The heartburn is well worth it. When we first moved to AZ I was convinced I'd find a burrito place similar but after 9 years that is not the case. I've been going to La Parilla since its first location opened on Babcock. They did away with the amazing beef barbacoa which was spicy and sweet many years ago but I started enjoying the grilled marinated bison or a chicken fajita wrap when I would go. It's now located on East Main Street in the Shine Tap Room. My last 2 experiences have been awful to say the least. A little before Christmas, I ordered the Bison wrap and the meat was ground, not grilled. It was gross and I picked it all out because it didn't have any of the asian flavors from before. We were driving by yesterday and decided to stop in. I asked and they have changed from the grilled bison to ground so I decided to try to spicy shredded pork. They were out. I ordered my standby chicken fajita wrap and asked for both hot salsa and stash. They advised they no longer make hot salsa because apparently most people just get stash and they were tossing too much of it. Ok, fine, just having stash would be ok. But, they were out of that too. Our friend got the clam chowder which has always been consistently good. It was thin and we wondered if she was served the wrong thing because it was more like a chunky potato soup without any appearance of clams. I've never been there when they were out of so many things. It feels like they have doubled the pricing and cheapened what is being offered. We won't go back. read more

Decided to try some food when popping in to check out Shine Beer Sanctuary. Decided on the pork Chile verde nachos and some chicken street tacos. It's set up like a subway where you choose your toppings. We chose a few and were very surprised when we were presented with cold chips and the few toppings we chose along the way, including the still cold shredded cheese. We asked if there was an option to heat and melt the cheese, as we are accustomed to nachos with hot melty cheese, like the rest of humanity. We also requested queso upon noticing there was no meltiness or deliciousness about these cold chips. Even after this addition of cheese sauce we had to ask them to melt the cold shredded cheese. The tacos were 100% cold as well! We decided against beers after noting the $7-8 price per pint! Would not recommend. read more

Ok, this place was great! Loved the food! Tons of options to customize your dish however you want! Food was fresh. Service was excellent. The owner even cleared our dishes for us when normally customers just return their own dishes to the appropriate place. Owner was very pleasant to talk to. The little skee ball machine and mini shuffleboard were really funny to play. Quite a large place with plenty of seating and a wide variety of seating. Even saw a second floor that looks like it had more seating! Price was reasonable. Street parking nearby. Absolutely love this place and will visit again! read more

I came in here for the first time since they've remodeled and combined restaurants. You walk in and go around the corner to order. Food is made as you order and pay so you have it immediately when you're leaving the register. They have open seating with long tables and benches. You can also grab a beer/sour/cider from Shine Beer Sanctuary. It is has a relaxed, friendly environment. You can get food and a drink, or just grab a drink and play some games. Their selection of food is more burritos/bowls, soups, and salads. Prices were fitting to what I would expect around Bozeman. I got the Backwater Bayou in a bowl--the fish was really delicious but next time I'll either try it as a burrito or fish tacos. read more

I've never been to this location but there was a La Parrilla in Missoula when I went to college there. 15 years later and I still crave the Wrap of Khan occasionally. I couldn't believe when I randomly checked to see if they were still around that sure enough they were! And not only that, so is the Wrap of Khan, and they still have all of the random fixings available that I used to choose. Wasabi and Gorgonzola.... what what?!?! Different name same crazy menu. It's pretty hilarious that people on here are complaining that this is not Mexican food. Ummm duh it's not even close. This is weird experimental fast casual cuisine. Don't order something you can order at Chipotle. Get freaky. If you're adventurous with your flavors you will be rewarded with something that sticks with you for decades. In Austin I can find exquisite dining at all price points and all varieties and I am so thankful but if only I could get a burrito filled with bison and covered in peanut sauce with wasabi vinaigrette. Look at the display on the kitchen window for GF and Dairy Free options - missed those while perusing the menu. Options are similar to burrito fast food options with an option to add items to your selection. Had the Blackwater Bayou Bowl.. a smidge disappointing as the lettuce was skimpy, the garlic aioli was more spice heat than garlicky. The catfish batter is reminiscent of chicken strip batter, thus in my opinion taking away from the taste of catfish. Cilantro rice is a nice addition to the bowl. read more

My wife and I recently moved to Montana from California. I grew up in San Diego and she in Los Angeles, so Mexican food is in our blood. We've been on the hunt for a good burrito since we've moved here about a month ago and so far nothing. We had high hopes for La Tinga which disappointed big time for the burrito (pozole was good though) and so we had lowered our expectations but still had hopes for this place, what with all the good reviews. Long story short - if you know what a good burrito is, if you've had one in California or Texas, or anywhere with a good hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint, rest assured that you WON'T get a good, or even decent, burrito here. What you'll get is something that looks a lot like a burrito, it will have rice, beans, meat, and some salsa in it, but it will not taste anything like a burrito. In fact it won't taste like much at all. My wife and I got a side of jalapeños and had to keep stuffing our mouths with those to get any sensation of flavor from this thing. We've just about given up on Mexican food in Montana, specially in Bozeman. I'm sure if a few months we'll get desperate and try another place but for now we're laying low. read more

This is an insanely popular place in Bozeman and with all the charm, it's easy to see why. We loved the atmosphere (trendy/hippy, tiny, collegy) and we were starving after eight hours on the road, but the food was just okay. I wasn't expecting any authentic Mexican, but I thought my chancho (shredded beef marinated in a verde sauce) fajita burrito, though fresh and lovingly made (also huge), was a bit strangely spiced - some kind of perfumey, un-Mexican spice dominated the beef. I hoped it would be at least mildly like chile verde but alas, not even close...though it was an interesting flavor and I did take my leftovers home. The beans and rice were good but a little bland as well. My husband ordered the BBQ steak and it was good - a little too smoky for me, but he loved it. Our baby had the bean and cheese burrito (a little steep at $5 but it was quite a bit of food) but the cheese wasn't melted on it (just generic, dry shredded cheese) so it was pretty messy. Maybe next time I should try the Fettuccine Alfredo or some of the other crazy ones? Cheap but not dirt cheap like CA taco trucks - our total for two adults and one baby was $20. But the portion sizes are very generous. Seating is tight if it's too cold to eat in the patio, but there are lots of stools at the bar on the walls. Good service, if a little cluttered and confusing sharing space with 3 at their tiny little counter (we had to repeat our order to three different people and didn't know where to wait after paying.) They get through the line fast, which is good because there is always a line it seems. A good place for when you're starving and if we came here again I'd go for the plainer, less weird burritos (steak and guacamole seem hard to mess up). read more

The reviews rave about the burritos but of course on that day I felt like having tacos. Maybe that was my wrong turn for the day? The servings are more than adequate but the flavors pretty much fell flat for me. Order chips and salsa as well and the salsa seemed too sweet for me. If I go back, then maybe I will try one of the burritos and I will be sold. But I am not sold on the tacos or the chips and salsa by any means. read more

This place isn't "authentic" Mexican food but doesn't try to be. It has a very hip vibe, eclectic fusion flavors, great outdoor area, locally sourced products and healthy options. It's a little in the pricey side, with tip I think I paid 14 dollars for a burrito but I certainly wasn't disappointed. My only constructive criticism is they haven't quite mastered the art of burrito roll. A well rolled burrito would have almost felt a little under pressure opposed to the loose roll that easily fell apart. read more
