Workers do a great job, but management is unsatisfactory. In one case siding was installed over the clothes dryer vent and laundry could not be done. When contacted the manager told us that the vent had been installed. Finally, a representative was sent who saw the problem and advised the manager that the vent was closed. That fixed the problem. Time wasted. In another case Shiner charged the wrong credit card and could not understand why I had a problem even though they had previously used the correct credit card. read more

We have been in our home 19 years without a roof problem, but that luck ran out in May when a large branch came down and punctured the roof above our kitchen. The insurance claim covered the problem and they gave us three companies to contact. Two of them provided quotes, but as luck would have it our adjuster went on vacation for a week. During that week Shiner was replacing two roofs at my wife's school (a few buildings on the campus are former residences), and both she and the school were very happy with the work performed. So... we asked Shiner for a quote on our roof. They scheduled an appointment, arrived on time and did a thorough inspection of the roof from above and from the attic. (the other two vendors did not get on the roof or in the attic because the adjuster was not on scene and did not want to be accused of "creating damage"). The Shiner bid was submitted to insurance as a third bid and the adjuster approved the "middle bid" cost. The Shiner quote was the highest (each of the three bids were separated by about $1000), but we were willing to pay the difference because of their reviews and the recommendation of my wife's school. The job took one day. They arrived on time (before 8am) and were done by 5pm for our fairly easy roof. And the clean up was comprehensive (likely blowing more leaves/debris off my rear deck than they created). The cost of replacement wood has been mentioned in other reviews and it was slightly higher than the other vendors per sheet, but not outrageously. When I asked about the difference in their quoted cost and the cost of sheet at Home Depot, they pointed out that their cost includes delivery and installation (plus removal and haul away of the old wood), not just the sheet of wood itself. We are very pleased with the result and our neighbor who works in home construction was also satisfied with Shiner's work. It was also the little details that we appreciated about the Shiner work. I didn't notice in their quote that they would paint the chimney to match. We fully recommend the Shiner team. (the one caveat for homeowners -- would be to designate areas of your landscaping to help protect - while Shiner did a great job protecting/covering the plants near the house, the team did wind up putting a cooler and stuff on our bushy green patch of Flox - which was past it's spring bloom. Likely they just didn't recognize it as a part of the landscaping.) read more

Our experience with Shiner was mixed. We arranged for them to replace our roof and siding. The roof work went well. The siding work had challenges. However, Mr. Shiner did deal with the problems personally and ensured that the work was thoroughly completed and that all parties were satisfied. read more

Update: Shiner sent someone out to determine the cause of the condensation problem. It's not a fix yet but at least now I can start addressing the problem. The communication with the initial inspection and the project manager was poor and took weeks. Much of the stress and frustration could have been avoided. I am hopeful that once I get the detailed report a remedy will soon follow. On a positive note there seems to be a good cache of photos from the installation and inspection to have for reference. read more

We called Shiner for an estimate and they came to talk to us very quickly. For the first time EVER I did not get a high pressure sales job. Just a quick pleasant quote and answers to all of our questions. The quote itself was fair and mid range of all the ones we got but they had the best warranty. The roofing process itself was amazing. They started in the morning and were done by afternoon. Cleanup was perfect. My new roof is gorgeous and we get compliments on it all the time. I cannot attest to warranty follow up and I hope I never need it but I do fully expect they will take as good a care of us then as they did initially. read more

We hired Shiner to replace skylights in out home. The individual who worked the estimate seemed professional and the price seemed reasonable, so we moved forward. I wasn't home during the installation, but there were several issues with the installation: 1. I picked up three cigarette butts and 15-20 metal staples from our driveway. 2. The installation crew must have put two of the skylights on our front lawn. This left two large burnt spots. (see photo) 3. The crew did not make an effort to sweep off our back deck after the installation was completed. 4. There was a good amount of debris still on the roof. I climbed up on a ladder and policed up the debris myself. The debris included several nails and another cigarette butt. (see photo) I understand there will be some stray debris in roofing work, but this crew didn't even make an effort to clean up. Not policing up the cigarette butts is inexcusable. So far the skylights are OK, but I'm concerned the install crew might have rushed the job since they didn't have time to cleanup. I cannot recommend Shiner to others. read more

We hired Shiner in 2010 to build a ground-level backyard deck. We had serious problems with ground water infiltration through the house foundation almost from the start, and now that we've had the deck replaced, the full extent of the poor workmanship on the frame of the original deck has become apparent. On a five-foot wide section of the foundation where the water has been getting in, we could now see, Shiner's carpenter had drilled or punched 20 holes to attach the ledger board. Several of these holes were left unused, and unplugged -- some of them below grade. There was wet mud in some of them, good evidence that these unsealed punctures were the cause of the leakage we'd been coping with for almost 12 years. I should note that when the leaking became apparent in 2011, Mark and Luis came out and attempted to abate the problem by installing flashing under the steps, but that proved only marginally helpful. I've had to make continual efforts over the years to keep the gaps between the deck boards sealed with silicone to minimize the ongoing water infiltration. Even so, the moisture has ruined a section of drywall in our finished basement twice. One of Shiner's people told me back in 2010 that the company didn't do much deck construction. I should have taken that as a warning, especially after the carpenter showed up to carry out the entire project by himself, with no laborers to help, and the frame initially failed inspection because the wrong wood had been installed below grade. The lesson I take from this experience is to pick a home contractor like I'd pick a heart surgeon: find someone who has A LOT of experience doing exactly what your case requires. read more

We still have a roof leak near our fireplace. Two consultants could not find the cause, so I called Shiner. They came promptly, apparently diagnosed the problem, provided a substantial estimate and we signed the contract and the contracted work was done. The leak is in a room not often used, but about a year later we discovered leakage in the same spot. I called Shiner and again they responded promptly, showed me pictures of what is very likely the source of the leak and told me they would review the situation for warranty consideration. The inspector who showed me pictures of the problem (damaged flashing near the chimney) indicated it should have been found on earlier inspection. Hearing nothing for about a week, I called and was told that metal cap needed was not included in the repair contract. When one calls for a professional inspection for a roof leak, one trusts the inspector will do a thorough job finding the problem. If the problem is not something the company is prepared to repair, they should tell you at the time of inspection, not make $3973 worth of repairs without fixing the problem!!! read more

Overall a very good company to work with and the roof and skylights turned out beautiful! Estimator, Ryan, was very professional and responsive with questions. Installers did a great job. Communication from project manager and front office during replacement could have been a little better, as PM only showed up once during the two day job. The quality of work was a 5, no doubt. Amazing craftsmanship. The reason I didn't give them a 5 was we had a few hiccups. However, Kevin Shiner Personally contacted me to take care of the issues and ensure that I was satisfied with the work. Things go wrong sometimes, and it is how you respond to them that makes a difference and he responded as a true professional. I am not sure, but I think that some of the installers may be contractors based on my interaction with Shiner and the installers. If that is true, then Shiner provides a level of security and confidence that when something goes wrong, he will own the problem. We almost went with a private contractor and the thought of dealing one on one with a contractor for the issues we had would have been a nightmare. I wish I could have given him a 5.... so maybe my review is like a 4.5. read more

Had them come out to give me an estimate for replacement windows. The sales guy had all kinds of gimmicks about why their windows were the best. Using props like infrared lamps, ice cubes and their samples. In the end, his estimate was over 50% higher than the other two companies I was getting quotes from. read more

This firm seems to think that 5 weeks is a reasonable time for a customer to wait for them to actually arrive for their appointment. After taking a sizable deposit and promising that they'd be back within two days, we were left waiting with a leaking roof for 5 weeks! Excuse after excuse was all we heard until they finally showed up then they charged us $800 plus for a job that lasted literally 28 minutes and entailed replacing 3 shingles... Seriously? Shiner Roofing replaced my roof five years ago. Every time I look at it, I am still unhappy, and regret not having submitted a review. If I could give a zero star I would. First, the installation was a disaster. They shipped the wrong color shingles but only realized it once they had removed my old roof, leaving an exposed roof overnight. With heavy rain that night, I had water seep into the attic and down into my son's bedroom ceiling. Then, they added an additional $1,610 onto the original estimate for "additional plywood" that supposedly needed to be replaced. In the end, the roof looks like a wave pool, with undulations across the roof. Moreover, they did not extend the shingles far enough so that rainfall goes into the gutters, so now water drips down under the gutters instead of into the gutters, leaving dark streaks on the fascia. I now have to have my gutters replaced and pay extra to have drip edge installed to solve this problem. The three different gutter estimators all commented on what a lousy roofing job I had! I paid over $1500 more than my neighbors who have replaced the roof on their townhomes, even with the $1000 Shiner finally discounted the job given all the problems. Don't be lurred by their family business reputation. They are expensive and do not provide quality work. read more

This company was a horrible mistake. They have been out to "fix" our roof twice now, and apparently, will have to come back for a third time. I standing here writing this in my kitchen as rain water consistently drips into a bucket. The contractors refused to replace or investigate the valley where every other company said the issue was arising. Instead, they concentrated on other non-problem areas. Their warranty refused to fix the destruction on the inside of the house, even though they said they had fixed it the first time. Now we have even more damage inside. I had scheduled an estimate on 10/4/17 for them to come out on 10/10/17 at 6 PM. I cleared my schedule to be available that evening and no one showed up or even called me. Very unprofessional! I'm a contractor as well and keeping appointments is paramount. If you can't show up to an estimate, I sure won't trust you to put a roof on my house. read more

I am happy to send you the email correspondence regarding the matter but the facts you laid out are not accurate as you will see in my response supported by the email correspondence. We asked for several companies to come out to look at the problem and got several proposals. Your initial proposal was $2,014. Mrs. Y liked your representative the best - he seemed to be knowledgeable and helpful but since the proposals were quite different, she emailed him to make sure that the proposal would fix the problem. Your representative offered to come out and look at the issue and explain the problem. Mrs. Y took him up on the offer explaining "I'd love for you to do that and even try to talk to you and show you what's happening so that we are sure we're doing the right thing to correct the problem." Our whole focus was to take care of the leak. After the meeting, I'm not sure what your representative saw the second time but we got the revised proposal. Note the revised proposal was for $2,094. As you can see, it was even a bit more than the original proposal. Usually, if one is refusing a service, it is because it cost too much. I can't tell you the actual conversation between Mrs. Y and your representative (since I wasn't there) but based on what Mrs. Y says and based on common sense, we did not refuse the service. It was determined that the new proposal was the appropriate means to solve the leak. It would be nonsensical to pay more for a service that your representative said would not solve the problem (which seems to be what your response said). In addition, your new proposal is not similar to the original proposal so it doesn't even seem that the new person who looked at the chimney agrees with the original proposal. All in all, it has been a very frustrating experience. We would have hoped you would honor the warranty and your representative's assurances to my wife that this would fix the problem, but I guess that's not what is going to happen. read more

We had a superb and professional experience with Shiner. When our housing tract was built, the roofing contractors who built the roofs did not follow best practices. As a result, the homes in our community have had issues with leaks and falling shingles. Our HOA president used Shiner and referred us. I spoke to several other local Roofers. Shiner's estimates were reasonable, not the highest, not the lowest. What impressed me was that their estimator (Mason) had installed several roofs himself. As a result, he was able to justify/explain the costs. Unlike other estimators, he did not try to pressure us with sales tactics for additional costs. He did a very detailed assessment of our current roof and provided detailed recommendations which he was able to logically justify. The roofing team, who installed our roof, was very professional. They came on time, cleaned up each day. Their cleaning job was actually meticulous. We did not find any stray nails, debris. The roof itself is very beautiful. Mason helped us select materials which aligned with our HOA requirements. I have recommend Shiner several times to our friends in Mclean and Great Falls. read more

Mark Francis has been so incredibly helpful to us in determining where a leak was coming from our attic. As many times as I said it was the gutters, the soffits etc. Mark just worked with me. Long story short it was not Shiners problem at all it was my HVAC installers who left a pipe to no where and the condensation just dripped into the eves. Mark has been so helpful and patient with me. Recently had our 25-year old rood replaced by Shiner Roofing. Company representatives were all very kind and courteous. Workers cleaned up very well after installation. Noticed that flashing seemed to be bubbled so contacted Shiner Field Manager came out to inspect and had flashing redone but with same result. Worker explained that bubbling was due to mortar lines but would not affect the integrity of the flashing. Still very new installation so hopefully no issues will arise but we are happy with our decision to hire Shiner Roofing. read more

But when we had a leak they were very responsive. And our roof is 13 years old and they said it could make another 5 years so they also seem to be honest. If there is one thing I would do differently when buying another house is to buy one without dormers. Our house has five. A previous roofing company incorrectly installed the flashing around the dormers incorrectly, which began leaking after seven years. That company could not find the leak and I called Shiner based on the recommendation of a family member. Shiner replaced the flashing and redid the shingles around the dormers. With all the rain and wind we had lately, the siding on the dormers came loose. As Shiner is my go to roofer, I called them and they completed the repairs to my satisfaction. The staff was courteous and since it was a small job, timing wasn't critical (no leaks). The crew was courteous and cleaned up the job site well. read more

Shiner has a classy webpage and brochure. Had their salesman out for attic installation estimate. He spent a lot of time measuring then went out to the truck and spent another 20 min writing up the estimate/contract. Their estimate was 3 times what I paid another company (Discount Energy) to do the job. The Discount Energy guy came to the house, made a couple measurements and gave me an estimate in 1/3 the time it took the Shiner salesman. They also did a perfect job and didn't leave a mess. Called Shiner to make appointment for a roof inspection to determine the shape of our current roof. Appointment was easy to make and the sales person was very knowledgeable and helpful. He took pictures of our current roof, which illustrated where repairs needed to be made. There was no hard sell to replace our current roof. Repairs could have been made to extend the life of our current roof but we decided to move forward to replace the roof due to the age of the roof. We believe the pricing was competitive and were impressed by the professionalism demonstrated by all Shiner personnel. Based on the amazing reviews, I reached out to Shiner for an estimate to replace my entire roof. It took a week to get an estimate appointment and Steve who came out was very friendly and informative. But he claimed that due to wind that day, he would come by some other time and do the inspection. However, he gave a lump sum estimate to replace the roof. My guess is to see what my reaction would be. I mentioned to Steve that I would need a detailed estimate to submit to my insurance. He said that I will get a detailed estimate within a day or two. Then when Steve did send the estimate it didn't have any information included. It was just their template contract with no information added. I've since requested Steve send the estimate information but it has been over a week and no response. It's just been a frustrating experience when I was really excited to use them initially. Oh well. Also, he mentioned that they would not be able to install new roof till February or Mach of 2019 since they have huge back log. Hmmm interesting!!! Our roof may have been leaking for long time, but we recently noticed leak during a rain storm in May. Insurance company ruled out damage as not related to storm. I started looking for a good roofing company to get my roof fixed. I was calling few companies everyday to get help. No one was interested in fixing the roof. Finally Shiner Roofing came to our rescue. Bill was very honest and patient with us during an estimate time.Their price was fair and competitive. He noticed our chimney was tilted and as a result would be disconnected from inside. He immediately suggested Bowman's Electric as good company to get a professional opinion about chimney. Though I had another company with cheaper estimate at that time who claimed everything was fine in the attic and they will take care of fixing chimney form outside , I decided to call Bowman's. Bowman's came and inspected my roof & attic. we were stunned to find out that our roof could have caught fire anytime. He showed us burned wood in our attic too. when I called Bill with the result he immediately put our roof job at the top priority because of fire hazard. Even though Bill was willing to fix our roof, at that point we decided to get new roof rather than fixing it. Louis and his installation team of eight was on time, very helpful and accommodating during install. They did a fantastic job, cleaned our yard at the end of the day. Their office staff is very friendly, polite and helpful at all times. Saiba, Kristen, Kara, Megan are all always willing to help and follow through any request. Joe & Joe came for an inspection today, they are perfectionist and would not leave any small detail out. They are sending their crew back to fix scuff marks on our roof, which we would have never seen! It is rare to find a company with such high standards and goes above and beyond for customer satisfaction. We personally recommend them for any project in your home. We have attic insulation job lined up with them in Fall & looking forward to have our trims wrapped and new gutters installed by them next spring. We know a lot of people have had damage to their homes due to the recent wind storms. We contacted them for an estimate. They finally came out on Thursday - it is now Tuesday evening and we still have no estimate. We were told Friday. Then contacted them again Monday - and were told "by the end of the day." It's now the end of the following business day, and we are still without anything! I know we have a very small job, but so far - horrible customer service. I would not recommend this company to anyone! read more
